 side note: I have been short on reviews. But I am back on track.

I love things that are different, heck, I'm different. And I saw earthbound as the light at the end of a tunnel. In earthbound's day, every single RPG featured swords, a war-mongering king, and some kind of beautiful maiden. Earthbound shook things up a bit. It instead has incredibly wacky weapons that replaced swords with baseball bats and frying pans, the best and most hilarious enemies to date, and witty and hilarious dialogue. Earthbound's gameplay also differed from other RPG's. It utilized a rolling health system that would allow you to save yourself if you were hit critically, as long as you were fast enough. It also allowed you to sneak up on your enemies, though this would also allow them to sneak up on you. On with that thing I do, review. (It rhymes!)

graphics: by the standards of 1995, this game looks pretty good. The overworlds in most SNES games (if they had them) were a little bland to me. Earthbound gave its cities and its environments some character, bringing fun destinations and cool places. The battle's graphics are what I want to really focus on though. The backgrounds of fights in most RPG's were literally just crushing blackness. The background's in earthbound's battle scenes are very colorful, and are aesthetically pleasing. And the designs of the enemies meant to be scary do a very good job of doing so, and the enemies meant to look hilarious do just that.

Sound: I don't know if I am the only one who sees this, but a few of this games song sound like the opening to a song by queen. Well, the sound is definitely pleasing. I am not a huge fan of the overworld music, but the battle music is another thing. This music is just fantastic and it gets you right into the mood for battle.

addictiveness: its there. This game does take a while to complete, so while it is definitely a game you will want to play again, you wont play and beat it 20 times. This game definitely keeps you hooked and makes you want to keep playing.

Story: yay, this part. You play a normal kid. He goes throughout his normal life in onett, a city in eagleland. Though all that is changed when a meteor lands about a mile from his house. Our hero (known as ness) is sent on a quest that an alien bee informed him of. This bee speaks of three boys and a girl who stop the evil gigyas(gyig in mother 2 which is the Japanese earthbound, and giegue in mother) who takes over the world in ten years. Ness learns the existence of a magic called PSI which aides him in his quest to find eight melodies and find those other chosen ones to help him in his quest.

And before any of this happens, his mother tells his to change out of his pajamas...

depth: there is literally too much to do in this game. There are 8 sanctuary locations where you find the melodies, there are 3 other main characters you must find. And there are 8 cities and important places to go. There are a multitude of enemies, weapons, and PSI powers you can find, and plenty of assorted caves, forests, and buildings to explore.

difficulty: This game isn't impossible. At some points it will call for some extreme skill or some grinding. There are also some points throughout the game where you will be puzzled as to where you should go.

Overall, you should play it. I love this game and you will too. And if you don't, gigyas wins.

In the year 199X, in the village of Onett, on the continent of Eagleland...

Young Ness was asleep one night when a loud crashing noise awoke him suddenly. As he rushes out of bed and up to a nearby hill, he encounters a strange meteor, carrying a single passenger: a mysterious insect-like being named Buzz Buzz. Buzz Buzz tells him that in the future, an evil alien being known as Giygas has conquered the world, and the only one who can stop him are four young kids: three boys and a girl. Ness, of course, is one of the chosen ones, and he must find the other three children: Paula, a young girl with remarkable psychic powers, Jeff, a mechanical genius, and Poo, the young Prince of Dahlaam. Together, these four friends have the power to defeat Giygas and save the world from his chaotic reign!

EarthBound is a sequel to Mother. It is a top-down role-playing game in which the heroes travel around Eagleland and various other, exotic countries, trying to end Giygas' evil influence.

On the way, Ness and his friends will encounter a lot of enemies and battle them in turn-based combat. Unlike in the previous game, enemies are visibly walking on the screen. Each turn, each of the characters in the party can attack with their weapons, use a special ability (some characters have powerful psychic powers that can hurt enemies, heal comrades and more; some also have some other, unique special powers), use an item or try and escape. The game features "rolling HP meters" - when a character is dealt damage, it's not all taken away from his HP right away, but instead his HP decreases slowly; if the combat is ended quickly, even a massively damaging attack can leave a character with only minor injuries. By winning battles, characters receive experience and thus become stronger. If the player-controlled characters are strong enough, weak enemies will escape from them instead of trying to attack; when chased down, they will be defeated instantly.

Saving the game is done by finding a telephone and calling Ness' father. When the heroes defeat enemies, Ness' bank account receives money, which can be then retrieved from ATM machines throughout the game and spent in shops to buy better equipment or useful items.

Exit Mouse in the Cave of the Past

Note: This only works in the Super Famicom version of Earthbound(Mother 2).

In Mother 2, you could use the Exit Mouse in the Cave of the Past, which was never intended obviously, since the feature is missing in Earthbound.

Infinite use of Rock Candy

You can use the Rock Candy in battles an unlimited amount of times to increase your stats. You have to have it in one of the two very bottom spaces of one of your characters' inventories, and you have to use it with any condiment (preferably something like Sugar Packets or Jars of Delisauce, because they will increase one of your stats by 2 instead of one). This will allow you to get greater boosts in stats when you level up.

Secret Scene

Talk to Paula's father in Twoson, then visit the hotel. When you leave the hotel a bonus scene involving Paula's father will be shown.

$50 Easy in Twoson

Outside of the hotel room in Twoson, there will be a man sitting at a table. Constantly speak to him (his response will change each time) until he decides to hand you $50 so you can leave him alone. It takes about 20 sessions of talking for him to fork it over, but it's well worth it, plus it'll make up for the night you spent at the hotel.

Avoid Battles

If you go into a room with a large amount (or any amount) of enemies in it, you can exit the room and re-enter, and the amount of enemies changes; sometimes even taking them all out of that room. This can eliminate time-consuming fights.
