An Xcellent upgrade to the Mega Man series   Azul Fria
OVERVIEW

After 5 successful NES games (Mega Man 6 was not out yet), Capcom released a new Mega Man game that one can say followed a trend of when DC and Marvel Comics were releasing "2099" and "3000" versions of popular superheroes portrayed by different people around that time. In this case Mega Man was given an upgrade in the form of Mega Man X which again drives home that this is not the exact same Mega Man from the regular series. He is given the name X. He was the last robot created by Dr. Light before he died. The latter knew that he would not live to see his new creation take action which had the ability to feel emotion and choose his own path. Dr. Light seals X into a capsule to be awaken in the future and he is discovered by Dr. Cain. Around this time, other reploids were roaming the earth and some of them turned rogue and became known as Mavericks. There was a team of Maverick Hunters led by Sigma that were sent to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, Sigma himself turned Maverick and would become the Big Bad for the entire series save for the final game.

CONTROLS - A+

One of the main features you will see that sets the game apart from the classic series is the ability to cling to walls and jump up them as well. While this has been used in other games like the Ninja Gaiden series and Batman (NES), Mega Man X and it's future games has the ability to jump up just one wall with ease instead of jumping from wall to wall. Not only that, you can keep jumping up the same wall when there is a ceiling right there to avoid any danger below until it passes. When you first start playing this game, you will notice that the A button serves no purpose. Once you get to Chill Man's stage, you will acquire the Dash Boots (Leg Adapter) which will give you the ability to dash forward and allow you to travel faster than just walking. This is X's equivalent to Mega Man's sliding but unlike the latter, you will be able to jump further distances which allows you to reach items normally out of reach such as the other upgrades. The other upgrade with significant value is the arm adapter. Aside from charging your main X Buster up a level but it also allows you to charge all of your weapons. (The only weapon capable of that at the time was the Atomic Fire from Heat Man in Mega Man 2. Even that preceded the Mega Buster introduced in Mega Man 4). The extra buttons also allow for a convenient change of weapons without having to pause each time to change one. Just use L or R. The classic series didn't get such pleasure till Mega Man 7 and even the earlier games eventually got it first when ported to PSX

SOUND/MUSIC - A

The music and sound were made excellent in this game. A lot of tunes are catchy and classic. My favorite tunes from this particular game were Chill Penguin, Spark Mandrill, Storm Eagle and the first Sigma stage. The upgraded 16-bit sound really did justice to this game.
GRAPHICS - A+

The selling feature to this game which would later be incorporated into the above 8-bit Mega Man games, is some enemies reacting to certain weapons used against them or elements that affect them. While the elemental factor applies mostly to the smaller enemies. The weapon reactions apply to most of the bosses. Chill Penguin will show himself being burned, Spark Mandrill will be frozen momentarily, Armored Armadillo will show shock damage the first time he is hit with a spark ball but he will flinch when hit with a spark ball after that. Sting Chameleon will not show any reaction but he will flinch when hit with a Kwanger Boomerang. For the minor enemies, the enemies in Flame Mammoth's stage will burn up in the lava or be flattened by a press.
The stages are also a thing of beauty as some of the designs can give you a hint on what to do or interact with you in certain ways. For example, assuming you got the Boomerang, you will see some items in a wall that you will never be able to get to as there is no hidden walls. That's where the boomerang comes in to snag the item. Lava in Flame Mammoth's stage is an indicator to stay away from it at all cost. You might see a Heart Tank down there but there is no need to sacrifice a life or any health to get it because... As an added bonus, some of the stages will change depending on if you defeated a certain boss before entering or re-entering it. Remember that lava I spoke of earlier? Beat Chill Penguin and the lava freezes over when you enter Flame Mammoth's stage. Spark Mandrill's stage has shiny electric sparks on the floor waiting to zap you at every turn and a midboss that utilizes the electricity too. Beat Storm Eagle and his stage will crash into Spark Mandrill's and disable the electricity in the level even the midbosses electric attack. One more change is beating Launch Octopus will cause Sting Chameleon's stage to flood over and become a swamp and you know what water and mud causes. I cause part of the earth to sink away and uncover a heart tank that you could not reach earlier.

GAMEPLAY - A-

You start off with an introductory stage that gets you accustomed to the game and teach you a thing or two about things that were not available in the original series like wall jumping and the unfortunate getting killed by a fallen enemy which is a drag. You will also face an unbeatable boss named Vile who is invincible and will take your energy down to 2 bits before paralyzing you and the fight is over. He can still kill you if he jumps on you before the paralyzer ball hits you. You are rescued by Zero who sends you out to gather enough power to face Sigma by defeating eight of his Maverick Bosses: Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, Chill Penguin, Spark Mandrill, Armored Armadillo, Launch Octopus, Boomer Kwanger, and Sting Chameleon. As you can say, there are no "men" in Mega Man X only animals or plants. It is this way the entire series. Each boss is weak to another one's weapon which as you may have noticed that I have listed the bosses in order of who they are strong against. Sting Chameleon beats Storm Eagle who in turn beats Flame Mammoth etc. Hidden in each stage is a heart tank that increases maximum health by two bits. Also in most stages is an E-Tank used to refill your health but you have to fill it up by collecting life-ups when your health is full. There are four adapters you must collect for your head, arms. legs, and torso. In later games, each stage would have either a E-Tank or an adapter. Once all eight are down, you go through four Sigma stages which sadly, Zero will die for the first time in the series. Same can be said for Vile as well after you beat him. Sigma is not too much of a pushover but his final form will fall to one of the most unlikeliest of weapons: the Rolling Shield. That's been a staple for the majority of Mega Man games in general so no big deal there.

REPLAYBILITY - B+
There is a lot to this game to explore, the first time you start playing the game you are trying to figure out the weaknesses of the bosses by yourself and also trying to find the upgrades in the game. There is even a special upgrade in the game that you can obtain and it is the Hadouken which is Ryu's signature move in Street Fighter (Ken's is the Shoryuken which you get in X2). What you do is get everything else (upgrades, E-Tanks, Heart Tanks, and boss weapons) then play through Armored Armadillo's stage 5 times. You can escape the stage or choose to die and replay the stage. On the fifth try, when you are on the rolling platform wait for it to take flight in the air and jump off of it at maximum height to get leverage to the top of the cliff. Dr. Light will be in a capsule wearing Ryu's gi and headband and present you with the Hadouken that kills everyone in one hit (except final Sigma and the armored Vile who is invincible in the rematch until Zero destroys his armor and himself in the process).

OVERALL - A-

The game will take some time to adjust to if you are playing this straight off of playing the Mega Man series because like I said earlier, it plays similar but not exactly the same. Overall, it is an excellent game. The classic series did not have any bad games to speak of but while this game itself is excellent, I can't say the same about the entire series being great. I'm looking at you X6 and X7.

Take a dive into the New Generation.   chaoscontrolx
Hello fellow readers, members, and reviewers alike! Today we are reviewing one of the most Iconic games in Mega Man assistance! take a gaze upon the New Generation Mega Man we know as Mega Man X! Now we have a lot, and I mean A lot of ground to cover if were ever going to make it through this heck of a game! Has it aged well in the gaming universe? Has it left a big impression for us gamers as a whole? Let's find out!
Plot: Well isn't this a surprise? Mega Man X is in fact a total new generation like previously stated. In fact it's so new, it takes a total of about 100 years into the future of what we know as Mega Man (Classic). X, like Mega Man himself, is a robot of Dr. Thomas Light. Not just any robot, but a reploid. A robot that can have their own feelings and emotions. Along with that they can make their own decisions. X himself, has a bit of sentience to him. Dr. Cain, a scientist finds the blueprints and other necessities needed to finish Dr. Light's work. So, he finishes the robot and our adventure takes place some time later...
X has took notice of the chaos that has been about in the city, so he decides to do something about it and take some action! Minutes into his adventure, a huge robot appears from a ship and starts wailing on X. Wringing him by the neck, he insults X ready to deliver the final blow when... You guessed it. The coolest, one of the most famous characters known to the Mega Man fan base shows up and blows off the arm of Vile (the robot who almost destroyed us). Charging up his buster, Vile makes a hasty retreat and Zero gives us some quick info that can basically be summed up as "You aren't ready for the big stuff. But one day, you will be ready for the tough guys". Now, we begin the hunt... Of mavericks.
Game Play: Similar to Mega Man 2 and onward, Mega Man X has you hunting down X robot mavericks and destroying them. In addition to adapting their powers. But I must mention, a bit of more stuff has been added  These include the wall jump, the charge shot, (different levels and variations that is) and the dash. And I must say,  X is a heck of a lot more controllable than Mega Man. While I admit,  Mega Man was easy to control, X has so much more abilities that It's almost no contest. Especially when you obtain the dash. If your want an easier time, definitely tackle Chill Penguin's stage first.
If that wasn't enough, you also get power-ups! This can range from the already mentioned Dash, to a 1-hit KO hadoken! I don't want to spoil too much so jut play the game for yourself! Also similar to the 8-bit games, you are in complete control. You can't possibly feel like you've lost control of the character. This is saying a lot considering the jump to 16-bit.
Graphics: We can all admit that the graphics of the SNES were master pieces. Weather it be Super Mario World or Link to the Past, most of it is pretty good. Now how does Mega Man X affair to his brothers? Perfectly. Everything you look at here is detailed. It can be the floor you walk on or even the walls you jump on. If you see something, it will either go perfectly with the setting, or have a brilliant color pallet and details features. Look at X's fully charged buster! Games from the X series even made a similar art scheme to that of Mega Man 7. The graphics will leave you breathless.
Sound: This game, let alone the series has a variety of themes. This can range from a calm level stage theme, so an epic, loud introduction. Want an epic remember able OST, Mega Man X doesn't disappoint. This really proves that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. In this case, Mega Man and X. But what's more satisfying are the realistic sound effects. Ever take a listen to the original NES games and think, "these are some weird sound effects". If you are a hardcore gamer you probably have. X doesn't fall flat in this area oh no. Let's take a quick look at Chill Penguin's stage again. Rather Chill Penguin himself. Take not that when an an Ice Block, or bit of shotgun ice cracks, the sound effect gives you the feeling of it actually shattering. Don't worry about those annoying sounds from the old times because that's over and done now!
Depth: OK, so we all know that X follows the same format/formula as the original correct? You may think, "so it doesn't get a good enough score?" If you have, you thought wrong by a long shot. X takes Mega Man, and reinforces it ten fold. What can't you find here that Mega Man hasn't already took part in besides the controls? Exactly, nothing. X tops him in all of the categories.
For one, the smoother controls. Yes yes I do understand that I'm coming back to this but it's something I can't stress enough. The controls in Mega Man are almost always perfect, but feeling able to control the altitude and angle of your characters movement is so much more satisfying. Along with that, the armor. X, with as bulky as he is, isn't anything without his armors. Theses armors make the adventure so much more
bearable it's almost like a slap to the face. If you're going to make the game easier, then definitely go out of your way to find these strength inducers. Last thing I should add is something that revolves around visuals. Ever see a robot master die in the original? Just an explosion and plasma scattered around who knows where. Check this, depending on how you kill an enemy, a certain something will happen to it. The perfect example is around Flame Mammoth. If you use Boomer Kuwanger's weapon on him, his trunk falls off. NO other weapon has this effect. This also applies to regular enemies in that, some of them die if you hit them in a certain spot. This is shown in the intro stage where you fight the first robotic bee. He sends out some enemies that aren't effected if you shoot their legs, but rather their heads. It's amazing to say the least how all of this can impact a game.
Difficulty: I am gonna throw a lot of you viewers out here, but I found X to be easier than Mega Man for one main reason. If you guessed control you are right. See, while Mega Man had some awesome control, X takes that controls and boosts it. Not by much, but still. The power-ups only help that category. But with that out of the way.. Let's focus on what you really want to hear.
Stages. How hard are the stages? Let me put it like this. "If you want a challenge. Don't get the dash. If you want want, tackle Chill Penguin"
Depending on who you are and how you affair with video games, these stages can be either easy or hard. It's as simple as that. But the Mavericks? That's a completely different story. With each maverick, comes a completely crazy movement pattern that can be difficult to track down, and if you aren't careful, they may end up having one over on you. Unlike Mega Man, these patterns are a simply, move up and attack. They attack depending on where you're standing on that map for crying out loud. Accurate much? The bosses and Mini bosses themselves are too hard, (excluding the final boss) but they do take a long time to destroy. Other than that, this game can be somewhat easy. I would give this category a 7.5, but I can't so... Yeah
Mega Man X has widely improved on what Mega Man has failed on, and even on what made him a star, and too this day day are begging Cap Com to release a new Mega Man game soon. X himself has left a huge impact on the video game industry and Mega Man as a franchise. With that said, you might as well find that game, pay the price for it, and have one heck of a gaming session. If you love this franchise, you should play this ASAP. So what are you waiting for? Go out there and play this game.

MegaMan X   Barathemos
Well if you rate a game such as MegaMan X low, than you are not the type of gamer who likes insane awesomeness. The game MegaMan X is a game with some flaws but also has some very good parts to it. That is the reason I will give this game a 9.2 overall. As you will see in the review MegaMan X has some of the best parts in any game on the Super Nintendo.
Graphics: 10
For a Super Nintendo game, the graphics are very good. If you look at some other games for the system, they just can not compete. First are the characters. They look neatly made and slightly real, not like human real, in a robot real situation. Then comes the enemies. They look just as good as X himself, nice and created with TIME. That is what makes the difference in this game and others, the creators put some time into creating the characters. Than comes the backgrounds. Have you ever played a game with a blurry green background that looked like barf? Well, you will not see that in MegaMan X. The backgrounds are clear and very detailed. That is why I give graphics a 10.
Sound: 9
The sound in this game is not just a 2-5 note repeated scheme. The music in this game is legit. You have all different times when you get good music. Such as the music for the intro stage, when Zero comes in( Best music) and everything else! Weather you like a game with exiting music or slow music than you will find that you love the soundtrack for MegaMan X. You will also find that the music stays on a central theme during the duration of the game, which is not bad. The boss music is a great way of showing how good the sound really is. I make it sound great but I give it a 9 because there are some Super Nintendo games with a far better soundtrack to them.
Addictiveness: 10
This game is very addictive. As you will see later the game is very hard, and that means you will keep trying to play this game until you are able to complete it. Once you start a level you will just keep trying until you finally beat the boss. You will also always risk your life to get armor upgrades and heart canisters, which you will probably die trying to do and you will have to restart the level. I have played this game for 2-3 hours straight just to try to finish the game. As you can see this game is the type of game that you play if you have more than just 15 minutes of free time, unless you are VERY good.
Story: 10
The story for the game is very complicated.
Be careful reading on if you do not know about the game.
The story is basically MegaMan X, along with some help from Zero have to defeat the main boss,Sigma. This requires you to beat 12 mini bosses ( bosses of the levels) in order to unlock the final, and hardest, level the one where you have to battle Sigma. The 12 bosses are very easy compared to Sigma but the levels are about .5 as hard. The story for this game is very long and entreating to anyone who is a fan of the MegaMan games. If you are looking for a game with a good story, than this is what you want.

 Depth: 10
This game has so much to offer that it will keep you playing for hours. With not only a fun level, how about 13 others. This game has the main levels and than a level that is very long, Stigmas level.  All of these levels teach you about the game threw its level designs. The game will take you anywhere from 1 day to 1 year to complete. You will have to bee really good to complete it in only 1 day, that is just so hard. Overall this game has just so much material that you play, it is just awesome!

Difficulty: 10
Just to say, you may give this section a 1, but that is just unreal. Completing this game in one try is just not possible to me. This is the main thing that dragged it down. If this game had just not been as hard than, who knows, it could have gotten a 10. This game is one of the hardest games I have ever played. It is so good that you get more than 1 life, you will be dead in no time. The intro stage is pretty easy, but the rest of them are just annoying. Sigma's level is the hardest by a long shot, I mean how do you get passed it? Anyway this game has a lot to offer but also has a lot of difficulty.

Any type of gamer you are, you will probably enjoy a game like MegaMan X. Just go out, buy a Super Nintendo and shove this game in to the game slot and have  good time. This game is a great game, the best for the Super Nintendo,( that I have played) and will always make sure you have a good time. ( Just to say, you can use the cheat codes for the game to help you out but I would say it just ruins the fun)
ENJOY!

Back to Not-so-Basics (WARNING: VERY LONG REVIEW!)   UncleBalrog
Ohhhhhhhhhhh boy, where do I begin with this game. That's a rhetorical question, because as always I'm gonna start by reintroducing myself as UncleBalrog, the guy who does game reviews. And really wants a name change!
I've lowered the gap between reviews from over a year to about a day or two, whether or not this is permanent is up to my motivation and whether or not I feel like some games on here really NEED reviews. Seriously, there's a LOT of game reviews on this board! But I feel this is a game that is so noteworthy that no number of reviews can accurately capture what an expansive behemoth of a game this really is. The fact that it's a Mega Man game just makes the "expansive behemoth" part seem a bit unrealistic.
But without any doubt, the concept of Quality over Quantity is a concept that Mega Man games are no stranger to. Following my experimental reviewing strategy, I'm gonna tackle this one with a much more optimistic attitude than I did with... *Elongated breath intake* ...Oracle of Seasons... Grr...
THE PROS (There's tons!!)
-
A faithful, true successor to the Mega Man franchise for the NES (Seriously, it's part of that same timeline.)
-Takes the series in a MUCH darker direction than the original series did, which I like quite a bit.
-Removes the awkward gimmicks that piled up on one another from Mega Man 3 and onwards (Rush adapter, Bolts, etc.) while having the same core gameplay, at least at first.
-Adds two very simple maneuvers to the game that change almost EVERYTHING about how you play it.
-A far more in-depth and rewarding upgrade system, especially compared to using Bolts to pay for stuff.
-Definitely one of the best soundfonts out of any SNES game I've played, even more so than its own sequels.
-An actual engaging storyline that leaves room for imagination as well as smooth continuation.
-Overall a much better game by itself than all of the classic Mega Man games combined in my opinion (and from a critical standpoint.)
THE VERY FEW CONS (Mostly just nitpicks.)
-A certain upgrade requires INSANE timing and reaction time, my first time getting it had me on the verge of insanity.
-The final levels weren't handled how they were in the classic series, they would have been far better if it was like a gauntlet rather than separated into four different sections. Even if said separation definitely built up a lot of suspense.
And now, onto the evaluation of this game's nicks and crannies. Hold on to something, and don't you dare lose your pants for this one.
THEM GREAPHICS!!
I'll admit something about the graphics in this game. I've seen things that look better on the SNES. However, the games in question (Chrono Trigger, specifically) had something that Mega Man X didn't. In that game, there were times where the graphics would oddly transition, or times when the camera would awkwardly pan and make the sprites look reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaally weird. In Mega Man X, it's not so much that the graphics are "good," it's more that they all blend and flow nicely, with the sprites just big enough to be detailed enough, but just small enough so that they don't take up half the screen. This is especially important in a 2-D action-platformer, because you've GOTTA be able to see what's going on around you. Also, this game didn't try to do anything totally revolutionary or fancy with the graphics, unlike games like Chrono Trigger. Don't get me wrong, I love Chrono Trigger, but I'll sing its praises another time. Mega Man X kept the same graphical style, making things much easier on the eyes, and easier to follow as a platformer. All awkward complaints aside, they still look pretty friggin' nice. Most of the bosses were based on animals instead of elements (fire, water, etc.) so the stages had to adapt to fit the boss. They went about doing this absolutely seamlessly. The stages all had this perfect, awe-inspiring atmosphere that, when coupled with the beyond-exceptional music tracks, set the perfect mood for jumping straight into the action and taking down each boss.
THEM MUSICS!!
As I mentioned in the many pros I listed, this game has one of my favorite soundfonts out of any SNES game, including its own sequels. None of it is even close to cringe-worthy, and I love how it was mostly rock-inspired. A few instruments are quite obviously synth-metal, and I swear to god there's even some jazz-inspired elements. This is mainly apparent in the end credits. End credits as in the staff roll, not the cast roll. Cast roll was pretty neat too though. Anyway, as for the other music in the game, every track fits its respective area absolutely perfectly. No exceptions, no exaggerations. Just a heads-up too, my favorite track in the game, as well as what I think of as this game's "defining piece," is the Stage Select BGM. I always find myself smiling in either triumph (after successfully defeating a Maverick) or revenge-ridden determination (after failing a stage) because that's the kind of mood the Stage Select BGM sets. That, and the mugshots of all the bosses are just BEGGING for you to click on them and play through their stage. There's no feeling quite like the feeling you get when you return to the stage select screen and hear that music playing.
...Another noteworthy set of tracks I feel I should discuss are the four tracks used in the four Sigma Stages at the end of the game.
The first track plays alongside a cutscene where X and Zero finally locate Sigma's fortress, and stand outside of it and have a small mission briefing before executing their plan of attack. If there was an "Atmospheric" section to the review format, it'd be getting 11/10 just for the music.
The second track plays during the second Sigma Stage, where X succeeds in infiltrating the fortress to wipe out the Mavericks that Zero left behind after storming the fortress before you. You feel like you're in the belly of the beast, but you know that your partner Zero is just up ahead, waiting for you to catch up with him and execute the next phase of the mission.
The third track...oh god, the third track. Remember what I said about the second track making you feel as if you're in the belly of the beast? Well this track makes you feel like you're in the very BOWELS of the beast. Sure you're executing the next phase of the mission, but you've got no buddy up ahead to rendezvous with. You're completely alone, fighting not for your friends who are ahead of you, but for yourself and the friends you've been forced to leave behind. Put forth the fact that you got all those armor upgrades, you feel scared at first, but then realize how strong you've become, and press on. At least that's how it made me feel. I played this a couple years back, this is the experience I had with the game. Needless to say I got REALLY into it.
The fourth track is played for only a short time, but the time it does play for gets you pumped for the inevitable final battle with Sigma that lays just ahead. Or, well, technically it lays just above you... cause you're climbing up a tower... Egh...
ADDICTIVENESS
This is another one of those topics where I don't quite know where to begin...there's just so many things about this game that hooked me from the start, and they all sorta hit me at the same time, so... I guess the combination of the music, enemies, sound effects, and atmosphere is what got me hooked. And it KEPT me hooked. This game grabs your attention immediately, and I assure you it does NOT let go. All the upgrades available for you to find are sort of like an incentive to play the game more, to learn its ins and outs. I certainly did. At any rate, I've played this game countless times, and I still find it insanely fun.
STORY
The story in this game is by far more...defined than it was in the classic series. It also, like I said, takes a much darker direction than the classic series took. For starters, remember Dr. Light? And Dr. Wily? And Mega Man? And every other character that was alive by the end of Mega Man 7? Well, they're all dead. I'm gonna go ahead and give you an eternity to let that sink in. Bass, Protoman, all of them are long gone by now. But, Dr. Light's last creation, Mega Man X, awakens in this series, and is TOTALLY FREAKING AWESOME. Anyway, I don't really think I should spoil the whole story of the game for you, seeing as you can just play the game for yourself and experience it on your own, which I HIGHLY recommend. At any rate, the characters in the Mega Man X series are more developed and, dare I say it, more important than the ones in the classic series, with the exception of Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. They all, especially Zero, have a huge impact on the story in their own ways. Sigma is, sadly, a character that gets really stale as the series goes on. He even resorts to the three cliche villain actions in the later entries. For those of you that aren't familiar, these three actions include; having an evil laugh, monologuing, and elaborately explaining their plans. Most of the time it's all three at once. Otherwise, the story is excellent, and I especially like how Zero's backstory was elaborated on in Mega Man X4, my personal favorite of the series.
One thing you should probably know: The series was intended to only have 5 entries, ending the series with the final deaths of Sigma and another character. But, unbeknownst to Keiji Inafune, the series's creator, Capcom decided to crap out a 6th game. That game is known as Mega Man X6, my personal most hated game of all time. Needless to say, the X series SORT OF continues into the Zero series, which then continues into the ZX series. I just find it really interesting how all these stories manage to tie together in some way, as it all dates back to the classic series. And guess who started this whole chain reaction off? Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. I don't know whether to thank them, or hate them to death, especially given the fates of all these robots they've created.
DEPTH
This game has a whole new level of depth added to it that the classic series could NEVER manage to live up to, not in a million years. The two new maneuvers I mentioned in the pros were Dashing, and Wall Jumping. They basically shaped the image of the entire Mega Man X series, and these features were also included in the Zero and ZX series. They both add tons of new ways to go about stage design, boss patterns, how to approach and avoid enemies, and the general speed of the game as a whole. It's much faster-paced than the classic series, and I much prefer the X series for this reason. Not only did the general speed adapt to the use of these maneuvers, but also the stage's progressions as a whole as well. Remember how most of the time in classic Mega Man, reaching the end of the screen would simply move you on to the next area? Well in Mega Man X, they removed these entirely in order to not screw up the flow of the game. The only screen-scrolling areas of the game are for the Boss doors--the transition of going through a boss door only contributes to the adrenaline rush you get while fighting them.
Another thing to add to this game's depth, is the upgrade system. Instead of gathering Bolts to purchase upgrades that serve as only slightly helpful gimmicks, you can find Armor Capsules that enhance X's overall abilities. I'll explain what each part does.
Head Parts: These allow you to break certain blocks above you, which turns out to be crucial if you're going for all the upgrades.
Body Parts (I know that sounds really weird out of context.): Decreases the damage done to you so you're more tanky than before.
Buster Parts: Allows you to charge special weapons, as well as your X-Buster, to shoot a powerful shot. Or in X's case, MANY shots.
Leg Parts: Grants you the ability to dash, this is the only X game where the Leg Parts are required to perform a dash.
There's also a secret upgrade that allows you to use the Hadouken at full health. It's really powerful, you're not gonna find it on your first play.
DIFFICULTY
The difficulty in Mega Man X is honestly a bit more lenient than it is with the classic series, especially now that you can just dash away from your problems. Or wall jump above your problems. Or both at the same time. Either way, the difficulty is certainly still there, and it's certainly real, it's just not as unforgiving as the classic series was. I'm not going to lie though, this is honestly one of the easiest games in the X series despite it being the first one. While X2 is still easier, X3 is a whole different case, and each subsequent one aside from X6 and X7 are even more difficult. (X6 falls into the "hard for no good reason" category, X7 is just an overall bad game.)
To wrap this review up, I'm going to end this on a very positive note and say that Mega Man X still holds up as a strong game today, after over 20 years of...erm...existing. Definitely one of my personal favorites, and for a good reason.
Here's to hoping Zero makes it to the Smash 4 roster! He probably won't but who cares, I can at least hope he does!

The Megaman X Review to End All Megaman X Reviews.   Hidden Phantom
Well, what can I say?  This is perhaps one of the greatest video games in history.  It has it all.  But, if you don't want to take my simple word for it, here's my review to back up what's honestly been said a million times before.
Graphics: 10
This game's graphics are no 3D, 1st person in depth world like some other games that are FAR inferior to this game, but as for it put side to side with the ORIGINAL series for NES, these graphics were amazing, and they were also extremely dynamic.  The graphics made you feel like you were IN the stage, you WERE X!  Not many games did that, heck, not many games do it NOW, but this one did.  And it did it WELL.
Sound: 10
My god, at least three tracks from this game are on my mp3, and I'm planning to add at least two more.  This game's soundtrack is AMAZING.  The sound producers KNEW what they were doing, they weren't fooling around.  They knew that this game would be huge, but they wanted more than that.  And with what they did, my god.  Basically, here's what I'm trying to say.  Take what I said before about the graphics, and add in that the music spurs adrenaline in you, it's melodies and pace bringing a sweat to your brow (talking from experience), the game saying "This is a good game", and PROVING it, a hundred times over.  If I could go over 10 with the sound rating, I would.  I swear on my Megaman loving soul.
Addictiveness: 10
It's not that this game is particularly addictive like nicotine, but it is addictive in one key fashion that has kept the Megaman franchise alive for so many years.  What is this miracle recipe, you may ask?  This. Game. Is. HARD.  Not hard in a way that will make 5000 people make rage quit videos on Youtube, but in a way that when you lose, you stare at the screen, take a swig of Red Bull, and say out loud: "It's on."
Story: 8
I like the story, but it needs more to it.  The concept of Dr. Light, Zero, and Sigma is great and all, but this game is the ONLY in Megaman X and on to have a...fairly weak story.  There's simply not much TO it.  Want a good story?  Megaman Zero 1.  Nuff said.
Depth: 8
For this rating, I'm not comparing it to other Megaman games, but rather to RPG's.  A stage select screen and boss rail later on does not produce depth and gives NO room for creativity, customization or opportunity, but the whole "Upgrade" ordeal from Dr. Light balances it out to a decent score.
Difficulty: 10
This game is HARD.  Not as much until the 2nd Sigma battle, but Sigma will kill you.  Over, and over, and over again.  Plus, his only weakness (and the ONLY weapon to inflict damage on him whatsoever) is the Rolling Shield, the only weapon affected by gravity.  Plus, his only weak spot is in the air.  So yeah.  Better get acquainted with them save states, my friend, because through this game, they will be your best friend.
So, all in all, this game rocks.  Don't even try to argue.  If you try to argue, play the game.  Then come back to me.  Now that I think about it, Megaman X is sort of a cult, isn't it?...
...anyone else got past the final screen?  The one with Sigma's vow to revenge?...Anyone?...

Mega Man X the first   ZeroTails
Hello everyone, ZeroTails here, and I am here to review a game I am also doing a walkthrough on, Mega Man X. When I first played the game, I had mixed feelings. Now, my feelings has changed quite a bit. Let's see what I think of the game.
Graphics:10/10
The sprite work is awesome, the animations are great, and it's pretty to look at. First off, Mega Man X looks distinctly different from the original Mega Man, so they took time to differentiate the sprites. The sprites look clean, and not cluttered. The animations are pretty smooth and not choppy, which is always a good thing. The color scheme is not hard to look at, Spring Man's stage from Mega Man 7, and the sprites aren't unusually big, unlike Mega Man 7. I don't hate Mega Man 7, it's just that I wish the sprites weren't as big. This game doesn't look as good as Mega Man X4, but that's a PSX game. Comparing them isn't fair.
Sound:9/10
The soundtrack is, well, nice to listen too. I have mixed feelings, since I don't like all the tracks of music here. Let me explain. Even though the tracks are well composed, I don't think it's the best soundtrack of a Mega Man X game ever. I do enjoy some tracks such as the intro stage and Boomer Kuwanger's stage, but I feel that some tracks are equally meh, like Chill Penguin's stage, and some tracks ride the middle road, like Flame Mammoth's stage. I like most of the tracks, but it's the few that are meh that drops the rating.
Addictiveness:8/10
I can't imagine playing this game over and over again for fun, but two playthroughs a year is fine with me. That's pretty good by my standards, since I was in the mindset that replaying a game is a waste of time. This game is fun enough to play that you wont be bored out of your mind when you play it, especially since you have to dodge things or lose a life. Also, if you can't beat this game on your first run through, you can try again after a few months, since you will most likely be better at gaming at that time. Only problem is, passwords. Or you can save state! Point is, this is a game that is worth replaying, especially if you are like me and play Pokémon. This is a nice break from grinding, that's for sure.
Story:7/10
The story isn't that spectacular, to be honest. Well, at least it's better than the original Mega Man. Basically, Dr. Light created X to be the next generation robot. Dr. Cain found X and created a new generation of robots with his programming, dubbed "Reploids" Some of the reploids has gone evil and started killing people. They were called "Mavericks" and the maverick hunters started, well, hunting the mavericks. X is part of the maverick hunters, and he has a friend called Zero, who also hunts mavericks. Sigma is the bad guy and you have to kill him so there can be everlasting peace! Yep, that's the story in a nutshell. The story starts to pick up in Mega Man X4, but not this game.
Depth:8/10
This is a Mega Man game. So this is a traditional Mega Man game. Except for the Heart Tanks, Sub Tanks, Dr. Light capsules, and special ability you can earn. This isn't your classic Mega Man game, obviously. The heart tanks increase your overall health bar, which is nice. There are also 8 of the heart tanks. The sub tanks are like E-tanks from the classic series. Only difference is, you have to fill them up and when you use one, it doesn't disappear forever, but you have to fill it up again. There are four sub tanks. Dr. Light capsules give you extra abilities like dashing, the ability to break blocks with your head, a more powerful charge shot, and half damage reduction. There are 4 in the game. The special ability is, well, the Haduken! Which makes sense, because Capcom did make Street Fighter. This has more depth than your classic Mega Man games, but it's no Pokémon.
Difficulty:9/10
Newsflash! This Mega Man game is hard! Like every other Mega Man game, this game is hard. I would argue that it's not as hard as the likes of Mega Man 2, mainly because of the upgrades. This game is not cheap, however. There is no surprise enemy jumping up from pits, and there is no, well, cheap enemy placement. The spikes are still insta-kill, though, and the platforming hasn't gotten any easier, either. At least there isn't any disappearing blocks, though.
Would I recommend this game? Yes. This is a solid game, with only a few minor issues here and there. No wonder I'm writing a walkthrough for this. Anyways, end of review!

Egoraptor was Right About This   hydra_huntersLOL
Mega Man X, the game where people got back into Mega Man and begged to get this gem.
Graphics: 10
......The graphics, you cannot beat on a SNES Megaman game, the way how Sting Chameleon turns invisible, The look of Dr. Light when you get in the capsules, Zero and X himself.
Sound: 10
The sound and music just spit out Shoop Da Whoop LAZAHSSS at me, you got the music of the intro stage, when Zero comes in, and everything else with the game. Now to the sound effects. The explosions are probably the best sound, there's the iconic X Buster sound (YEAH!!!!1 LEMONS!) and the last one I love is when X says Hadouken!
Addictiveness: 8
This games pretty addictive. I always try in one day the beat the bosses, find the armour and find the heart things, I don't know what they are.
But I need to plays this more......to complete this.....to get the Hadouken and kill the Mavericks
Story: 6
Sigma, traitor of the Maverick Hunters, is trying to destroy the world so you have to kill him. But the whole storyline is sort off based on X getting stronger. To be as cool as Zero (Is he a boy or a girl).
Depth: 10
This game has many hard stages (I get it ,there's only 12 of but SHUT UP!!!) that teach you by it's design. So you don't have Roll coming up saying, MEGA MAN! MEGA MAN! YOU NEED TO WALL JUMP TO GE-Shut your mouth! I don't need you!
Difficulty: 8
...This game's hard as trying to climb to the roof of your house without a ladder! I can't even defeat a Meverick (I'm 12 years old, OK!)
But you are not a master until you get the Hadouken in I'm not telling you where it is (because you might already know)
Controls: 10
The game has tight controls, just like the Megaman Classic games. Megaman X's movement is a lot like it, you don't always have to worry about sliding too much, and the wall jumping is a lot like in Super Meat Boy (but without having to slide down a wall too much).
OVERALL: 10
Just think about what Arin said in Sequelitus: Mega Man Classic VS Mega Man X.

Mega Man X, One of the best, It sticks it to the rest.   osazemccurley
Mega Man X is the first game in the spinoff sequel of Capcom's successful Mega Man franchise. Similar to the classic Mega Man games, this one is also an action/platformer game in which your objective is to clear each stage and reach the final boss. Designed from ground up for the SNES, though, this game has quite a lot new features that will be defining this new franchise.
The game presents us with almost no story when starting up, just a few bits to leave the rest of the plot to be revealed during gameplay (or the backstory through the instruction booklet) . The game takes place a some years after the classic Mega Man series. You play as Mega Man X, better known as simply X, who is the last creation of Dr. Light and is found and activated by Dr. Cain. Through X, Dr. Cain was able to create a new type of robots, called reploids. Unfortunately, some of the reploids start acting up and causing destruction around the world. As part of the Maverick Hunters, it is your job to stop these reploids.
The game is really easy to control, specially at the start of it when you don't have any extra abilities unlocked yet. You have the Control Pad which controls your basic directions to go either left or right or climb up ladders. Similar to the classic Mega Man series, there is no crouching here too. You also have a button for shooting and jumping, and then later one for dashing and two for scrolling between weapons. It's worth mentioning that all the button inputs are customizable, so even though the default layout is good enough, you can switch the buttons to however you like. The controls feel really tight and responsive as the game reacts immediately as soon as you press a button. You can easily move through stages and dodge enemy attacks thanks to how good the controls feel.
The basic structure of the game is really similar to the old Mega Man games but with certain nice additions. One thing you'll notice first is that they have now added an opening stage. This helps you familiarize yourself with the game and the controls. After this stage, we get the familiar stage selection screen. Again, like the classic Mega Man series, you have to go through eight stages and defeat the boss on each stage. You are also able to select the stage to play in any order you want.
The stages are all really well designed and providing different types of gameplay and challenges for the genre of the game. Each stage is set in a different place, for example, under the sea, in a forest, or inside a factory. An example of the gameplay variety is featured in the sea level, as the gravity while under water is affected, so your falling speed will be slower and your jumps will be stronger. Something new in the levels of this game compared to the classic series is the fact that certain stages will actually change depending on other stages you've cleared. This basically means that for some of the stages, there's actually two versions of them. So this could mean that the challenge may become easier in some parts but harder in others, although usually it's the first.
Beating each of these bosses will grant you a new weapon to use. After beating the usual eight stages, you'll be able to reach the last stages of the game in Sigma's Fortress. These stages offer a higher challenge, new bosses, and will put your abilities to test while still featuring great level design.
Another new feature of the game is the introduction of Armor Upgrades. There are 4 armor parts which you can get throughout the game, each of them hidden in different stages in the form of capsules. The upgrades offered by these will help you in different ways. For example, as I mentioned earlier, one of the upgrades you obtain is the ability to dash. Dashing is something that will make the game faster-paced and feel really different than the original Mega Man games. It gives you more variety in the form you can play the game while still retaining the basic principles of the gameplay. Other upgrades can also make your buster charge stronger or help you open up secret places.
There's also two other type of upgrades you can get in the game. The first one is the Heart Tank that lets you upgrade your life energy. There's one hidden in each of the regular stages. The other hidden upgrade you can find are the Sub Tanks. There's four of these and are essentially the evolution of the E Tanks from the classic Mega Man games. The Sub Tanks are now able to be reused but have to be filled manually. At the end, both of these type of upgrades are welcome and will be helpful during the game.
Related to the sound, as it's common with Capcom games and the Mega Man franchise, the game features an excellent soundtrack that will very likely get stuck in your head. It is quite memorable and also good which will set you in the mood for the action of the game or the respective mood in the small story parts. The sound effects are also good, as it matches perfectly what you would expect to hear from the actions that happen in the game.
On the graphics part, the game features really nice graphics and simple effects from the SNES. The sprites look really colorful, sharp, and detailed. You can easily see the details in the characters and the backgrounds, which are really well made too and match the style properly.
Overall, Mega Man X is a great first game in the new franchise Capcom decided to create. The game is a classic and I recommend it to everyone, and if you are a Mega Man fan or like action games, it's a must get. People who aren't used to this type of games may find some parts difficult, but it's still an overall fun experience.
My ratings for the game? Undeniably good, as you'd expect:

No Doubt the Greatest Mega Man Game Ever!   Foodperson
UPDATE: Due to rules and popular request, I have decided to eliminate the SPOILERS. Honestly, I like this 20 year-old game so much that I felt the need to explain everything this game has to offer like the fanboy I am. Then again, I should know better than to do this, and I should allow new players to discover this game for themselves. I apologize for breaking the rules and for disappointing/angering some of you. Now, on to the review!
INTRO:
Of course, I shouldn't get to reviewing games at all until I start reviewing my favorite game of all time, Mega Man X. This is, without a doubt, the greatest Mega Man game ever made for two reasons: control and level design. The control feels about the same as the already excellent classic Mega Man games, but with the addition of wall-jumping and dashing, the controls are better than ever! Also, the level design supports these features in their entirety, as they offer slopes and wall that would be impossible to traverse in the NES games. Not only those, but whatever little story there is to the game is magnified by how it is told in-game, and how the player actually feels involved in every step!
People like to say that RPGs like Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger are their favorite games ever, and while they are perfect games for their genre, they are not necessarily for everybody, especially children who don't bother to read text. Mega Man X, on the other hand, doesn't require reading to enjoy the game (except maybe the title screen) and can be enjoyed by anybody. I mean who can deny that shooting things in a cartoon-looking game is fun? Kids practically fantasize being the hero that shoots stuff, even in this day and age. And this game fulfills their fantasy perfectly. For everybody else, this is a well-designed action video game that belongs in your SNES collection right alongside Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, and Super Castlevania IV.
GRAPHICS:
It may not have CG graphics rendered as 2D sprites like Donkey Kong Country has, but the graphics are colorful yet shaded darkly enough to have a more edgy tone than previous Mega Man games. In fact, it has more of an anime style than the more bubbly games of the past, and that is what makes Mega Man X, among other things, stand out as its own game in the Mega Man series. It certainly helps that there are also effects like parallax scrolling and transparency. Also, the character sprites do seem to have a natural depth to them, so it makes me wonder why this wasn't remade in 3D for the Nintendo 3DS already!
More importantly, the graphics are so well-made that they actually translate to the gameplay rather than just being visual candy. There are moments like fighting the bumble-bee mid-boss in the intro stage, where after you defeat it you have to look at subtle visual clues in order to climb up a wall all by yourself. There are also neat touches like being able to cut off an elephant boss's trunk with a certain weapon. It's moments like these that make Mega Man X so special that it's worth playing at least 10 times!
SOUND:
As a new Mega Man game on the Super Nintendo, it had to take advantage of the Sony sound chip that the system offers, and my goodness does it do a good job of taking advantage of it! Right from the title screen, you will know that this game means business with its rock instruments mixed with some violins! Oddly, this is the one of the only Mega Man games that bother to mix the two kinds of instruments together in order to add variety to the music. You even hear techno music in one stage, and I don't remember almost any other Mega Man game that has that.
Adding to the excellent variety of music is the excellent sound design...well, for a Super Nintendo game, anyway. Shooting your weapon and hearing that pea bullet are satisfying from the get-go, and charging that weapon is satisfying and not annoying every time! It would be nice to hear more ambiance in the environments, but considering that this is Super Nintendo and not WiiU, and considering that the music is excellent, it doesn't really matter!
ADDICTIVENESS:
Even when I lost a lot in my first playthroughs of the game, I just had to keep playing it in order to win! The game is designed well enough that not only does it deserve to be beaten, but it also deserves to be cherished, speed-runned, analyzed, whatever. Like a lot of other Mega Man fans, I managed to beat it about 10 times already, and I try to play this game at least once a year just for the sake of it. It's that good! A few other games manages to be this replayable while still being shorter than the average modern game, and that's why I think Mega Man X is the best game ever! (Actually, I wish the game is longer, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.)
Other than the excellent level design, which I can explain in detail later, the major reason why this game is replayable is in the way the character progresses. Each of the levels is multi-tiered, and if the player explores enough then he or she can find upgrades for the character that make this challenging game a little bit easier to play without being too easy. Upon the second playthrough, though, the player can decide whether to make the game more challenging for him or herself through speedrunning by foregoing these upgrades! That's when the player notices the sheer depth of the level design, as if the developers actually playtested each level to see if both non-skilled and highly skilled players can complete those levels under those conditions! Excellent job!
STORY:
Unfortunately, in order to grasp what exactly is going on, you need the manual. When I was a kid, I kinda thought I was the bad guy, and I was shooting robots that were trying to stop me from trashing the place. After all, the intro sequence at the end warns us that the main character needs to be tested for 30 years before he can be trusted! When I first encountered the character named Zero, I thought that character was a girl--that character was brightly red, had a long, blond ponytail, and smiled a lot. Hell, even if Zero was a girl, the moment when I encounter this character is amazing, as it shows that I need to be as good as the best in order to overcome challenges--a.k.a. I need to get stronger to win, which is what this entire game is about, and it shows through it's multi-tiered levels.
But as a kid who just got the game without the manual, how was I supposed to know about the Maverick Wars, or that the final boss Sigma used to be a good guy until the formerly evil Zero was defeated by his hands? How was I supposed to know that there is a Dr. Cain, not just a Dr. Light? How was I supposed to know that even the bosses I fought also used to be good? But the good thing about this is that unlike modern games, I can actually use my imagination! I can make up my own story, to an extent, as I play this game (which allowed me to make my own crappy comic book about what I thought was the story of this game). And at the very least, the theme of getting stronger is demonstrated well enough right from the end of the intro stage all the way to the end of the game. This kind of story is inspired by role-playing games on consoles, and it's all boiled down to one smaller kind of game, leaving little confusion in the process. (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy!)
But I'm probably confusing some of you here, so I should explain some of the plot here. Anyway, the game is about Mega Man X, a Reploid (humanoid robot) who can shoot to defeat infected robots called Mavericks. He has to defeat the newly-made leader of the Mavericks called Sigma, but in the beginning, Mega Man X (or X as others call him) is too weak to defeat Sigma's minion called Vile, so Zero has to help him. Zero then tells X that he needs to get stronger by defeating 8 other Mavericks and obtain their powers. ("You may even become as strong as I am", says Zero.) A simple story that's told well enough given the lack of background information, as mentioned before.
DEPTH:
While the game is certainly not long and could use a lot more levels in my opinion (though 13 challenging levels is more than enough for most people these days), the depth of the level design is so great that it doesn't really matter anyway! From the intro stage, you can easily learn all of the mechanics of the game without any tutorials that pop up and annoy you, as the intro stage intuitively teaches the player things like shooting, wall-jumping, and even shooting in the air. Modern game developers should look at this game and take notes as they try to design their games, because this game has some of the most intuitively design levels in video games. Adding even more depth is one of my favorite features, which I'll explain here: let's say there is a snow level and a fire level. If you play the fire level first, then it will look obviously fiery, but if you finish the snow level first, then the fire level will then look like it's covered in snow!!! That way, the player can more easily reach that one upgrade in that corner that has lava on the ground! HOW COOL IS THAT!?!?!?!?
When you defeat a boss, then like in any Mega Man game, you obtain the weapon from that boss. What is unique about the Mega Man series
is in its "rock-paper-scissors" type of gameplay with the bosses having weaknesses to certain weapons from other bosses. I believe that only some of the smaller enemies have obvious weaknesses from boss weapons, or at the very least it's advantageous to use certain weapons in certain situations over, say, the main weapon, but moments like this are somewhat sparse compared to Mega Man 2.
As for Mega Man X, itself, the unique mechanic it has that distinguishes it from other Mega Man games is the ability to obtain armor upgrades by exploring hard-to-reach places. Armor upgrades include Heart Tanks--which give you more maximum health--Sub Tanks--which work like the consumable Energy Tanks but can be refilled by collecting Energy Pellets when your health is already full--and pieces of new armor such as the mandatory Dash Boots. This new mechanic is actually inspired by role-playing games at the time, because Capcom believed that it needed to appeal to people who liked role-playing games while cutting a lot of the crud that bogs them down, such as farming for experience points, going through unnecessarily long dungeons, and even the slow pacing. While I don't think it would turn their heads away those games--after all, I did mention earlier that Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger were perfect role-playing games, if not perfect games, for there are only perfect games (plural), not the perfect game--it certainly adds complexity and depth to a game series that needed a fresh change for the Super Nintendo. Not to mention, you can even try to beat the game with as few upgrades as possible. I dare you to try, and it's still a well-designed game despite the greater difficulty. Speaking of which...
DIFFICULTY:
So not only do you have an intro stage and can select any of the other 8 main levels in any order, but you also have to beat 4 more incredibly challenging stages afterward and beat those bosses! Playing this as a kid, I died numerous times (though not as much as when I played Super Meat Boy), but that only gives me the determination to continue playing this game...you know, after a break. Actually, it took me about 8 years to beat this game once, but then the game becomes much easier to replay since the game is easy enough to master.
For the people who played Mega Man games before this, though, you might find Mega Man X to be either incredibly easy compared to other games due to the improved controls, or incredibly harder due to the tougher enemies and more varied level design. Yeah, I did play other Mega Man games after this, and they seem much harder to me, so I will rate the difficulty somewhere between high and average here.
OVERALL:
An amazing game by the once-amazing Capcom, and arguably the best Mega Man game since Mega Man 2. Play this game. Play it again. Record yourself playing it. Make your friends play it and watch them die a million times. Bug Capcom to make Mega Man X9 and not ruin it. Mega Man X   tornadocam
A new Mega Man series started with Mega Man X. Players were introduced to this popular new Mega Man Series. It all started with Mega Man X the first of many X games. I will be doing a review of X
Story:8
The story or plot was decent for the first X game. Here is how the story reads from the manual and introduction. Dr. Cain a world known scientists is exploring ruins of an old science lab. Dr. Cain discovers a capsule and opens it. Before that he reads a note. The lab is Dr. Lights Lab. The warning talks about Mega Man X or X as he is called. X has great abilities and unlimited potential. He can think and feel for himself however if he turns on mankind nobody can stop him that is my fear. I have sealed him up with testers as I will not live to see X. Dr. Cain meets X and tries to copy X's design thus Dr. Cain creates what is called reploids. The reploids start turning maverick. The world sets up Maverick Hunters. Dr. Cain creates Sigma who has the latest programming to lead the hunters. However Sigma turns maverick and leads a revolt against the humans. X joins with another hunter named Zero to defeat Sigma. For those that have not played Mega Man X games. Zero was once a maverick and we learn in Mega Man X2 he was created by Dr. Wily with a virus. Sigma is sent to control Zero, but Zero inflicts heavy damage. The virus leaves Zero and fuses with Sigma creating the Sigma Virus. Zero is now a good guy and is the new leader of the Maverick Hunters taking Sigma's place . Okay a lot of details for the first game. But it is the first game so a lot of explanation was needed. Capcom did good here explaining the story. Give players an idea on who the main characters were. The plot is well executed. Now, since I have played Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3 as well as other games. I gave this story an 8. I just thought the plot in X2 and X3 were better written. However, this is the first game so it was a good plot overall.
Graphics: 8
The graphics are very nicely done. The Jung stage, the ice stage, the air force stage and the  mining stage were all done nicely. The colors really make the stages come alive. This was the first Mega Man game to have 16 bit graphics. The controls are really nice and so are the sprints. X for the most part is smooth accept in a few areas. The way the buster once upgraded has a nice color to it. I also thought that the sprints of the enemies were also nicely done. However, sometimes the controls can sometimes get a little stiff. Stiff controls are not a huge issue in the game but they are a few spots it just feels sluggish. The part in Sigma stage one is a great example of this. Also a few times when the game gets  hectic I do find there is a little lag at times. But I would expect that since this is the very first X game. But to sum it up the graphics were good for the first X game.
Sound: 7
The sound is probably average to slightly above average. They are a few memorable tunes here. Sting Chameleons is notable so is Armor Armadillo's music. However compared to X2 and X3, which had very great music. I just find that the music is missing a few beats. It is not bad do not get my wrong just not as good as other X games. The sound the enemies and weapons make are okay. X buster sound is really good because it sounds like a burst of energy. The way the storm weapon sounds makes a player thing it is one of the more powerful weapons in the game. So while Mega Man X did not have the music of X2 and X3 it was not a bad sounding game.
Addictiveness and Depth: 7
Okay Mega Man X is a fun game to play. There is some depth here items to collect and power ups to get. However the game does not have that much depth compared to X2 and X3 which had side missions in them. Those two games also had more power ups than X one did. Mega Man X is a medium length game its not really short but not long like the X games that come after it. Considering they are only 8 stages and a few fortress stages kind brings the rating down on this one. However, every stage has an item and a lot of the items require going back to stages so that does add some depth. I find myself going back to X one the least. I guess because I got spoiled to other X games that had huge depth and were very fun to play. But, with that being said X one is a fun game to play and I still play it.
Difficulty: 6
Mega Man X suffers from somewhat of a lack of difficulty. X2 and X3 as well as future X games just bury you with their tough spots as well as difficulty. Now, they are some tough spots in Mega Man X and a few of the Mavericks like Sting Chameleon and Armor Armadillo are hard to beat. But some of them are not to bad one the player learns their AI pattern. A lot of the Maverick stages are not bad at all. Now the Sigma Stages can be of a problem such as the first one requires a lot of jumping. It is so easy to fall into the pit. The fortress bosses are also very tough so that is were the difficulty comes in for this game. X2 and X3 were very difficult games the bosses were hard, the fortress stages were also very bad in difficulty wise. Not to mention that in future games they hide the items very well. In X one Capcom did not really hide the items a lot of them are in plain sight. Maybe Capcom wanted the first game to be less difficult so it would not scare away players. So giving that the bosses are not too bad till later in the game. Giving the game a 6 rating was the best I could give. Thankfully, Capcom made future X games more difficult.
Overall: 8
Well considering this is the first game that started it all it is actually a good game. Capcom created a good game to get the X series rolling, which they needed too. I like this game despite some of the negative things I said about it. However, as I stated I have gotten spoiled to Mega Man X2 and X3. Those two games were gems. Mega Man X has a good plot and good graphics and overall is decent. Capcom fixed the problems in X2 and X3. But hey Capcom had to get a start somewhere to launch the X series and they did a good job. I would recommend this game to anyone who is new to the X series

MrEon Plays: Mega Man X- The grim future of Megaman (and no Dr. Wiley)   MrEon
Personal thoughts and Feelings about Mega Man X:
Now this is a trip down memory lane for me. Lets go back in time a little bit now. It was the sad day and age when video rental stores were dying. Sad, but true. A small Video rental store we went to not far from where I lived when I was younger had a large selection of SNES and Sega games, good times. Better yet, it had a pizza place too! A great Friday evening all in one.
I rented the game once, and played about halfway through, and SWORE I would go back, rent it and beat it... No such chance, it was always rented out when I went back for it. Fast foward about a year, when the store was closing down and selling everything they had. My dad came home with a SNES game for my birthday, so I was totally stoked! (I had maybe 6 games in all at the time) And when I saw it was MegaMan X I instantly went for my console and the next tweleve hours were lost to MegaMan, Zero, Sigma and a assortment of Junkfood.
Best way to spend a weekend. I've played this game inside out and backwards, found every secret imaginable, beat it nearly anyway you can imagine. (Including with no sub tanks or heart tanks only the base life you start with.) This game holds a very special place for me in video game history.
The real Review:
Graphics 9: It's Capcom. It's Megaman. Its the first foray for the series in both the darker, gritty world of Megaman X and for the SNES. Of course it looks great! Though gone is the anime cuteness of the previous Megaman games, now for something along the lines of a science fiction anime, with robots! So it looks great.
Sound: 8
PUT HEADPHONES ON!
Okay? You will notice a great deal of difference. First, the music, epic. From boss battles, to the stages themselves they fit the mood perfectly, and help hype up the heavy action (especially during the last few stages where everything wants to kill X ) As for the effects, perfect, I saw now skips or lags in timing for each, and everything from the dash, to the charge up of the buster and the execution of special weapons was spot on. And when/if you unlock it, you will hear the delightful homage of Megaman doing the Hadoken. Its just freaking awesome.
Addictiveness: 5
Okay, this score is a little low for one real reason. Once you've found out the locations of the goodies, and discovered the bosses weakeness and beaten the game. There really isn't much reason to go back and play it, unless you're like me and just love playing the game and want to do 'Hard Core' plays.
Story: 8
Woah... things got dark in 21XX. Gone is Wiley and his dastardly deeds to take over the world, stopped only by Megaman, Rush, Roll and Dr. Light.
You begin... the war is already over. The bad guy won. Humanity is dying, being replaced by Reploids.
(Which makes you wonder, where was the orginal Megaman in all this?...)
So, what happened? Sigma Happened.
The Day of Sigma:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcuzqLjvKtM&feature=youtu.be
The Story, while dark, is excellent. And gets better with most of the progressive X games.(Note: MOST of the games.)
Depth: 8
The game plays on the same routine as classic Megaman games. Eight bosses, each with a weakness and a weapon to obtain after each. However, it goes a bit deeper then that. With the increase in difficulty, variety of enemies and deviousness of the bosses, there are things that have changed. Subtanks to store life energy to use at will, and heart tanks that expand the base life meter. Not only this, but armor pieces that give varying abilities. From speed dashing (which allows farther, more agile jumps) To Barrier breaking helmet, damage reducing armor, and even a upgrade to the buster that allows a 3rd charge level for the buster cannon, and allows you to charge special weapons to unlock a second ability for the weapon. So it all adds a level of depth to consider throughout the game, to see what can get you where, and to see what might get by exploring. Not to mention, some weapons, while not doing extra damage to bosses, might weaken them in other ways.
Difficulty: 7
While difficult, it is not insurmountable. Careful study of the enemies, and bosses will let you figure things out. So challenging certainly, but not impossible by any means. However, you might feel that way by the time you get to last boss which does not play fair by any means. So it's a perfect balance.
Final Thoughts:
If you ever liked Mega Man games, you'll love Mega Man X.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!
If you want to know how to get all the goodies just watch this!

Mega Man X   Zircron Swift
If you played the first four or five Megaman games, you’ll notice they follow pretty much the same format quite accurately. So much so it’s hard for them to make a unique game without having to follow the same route or use the same game designs. Megaman is probably the perfect example of a company milking a good game with several “similar but not the same” sequels. This is good and bad in a way. It’s great they aren’t fixing what isn’t broken, but it’s the same kind of “what isn’t broken” if you know what I mean. They are virtually the same game with different bosses and power-ups, with maybe the odd gimmick here and there. I think Capcom here though it was time to make another Megaman game, but to make it dynamically different from the Classics. Enter Megaman X, probably the “real” sequel to the Megaman seires.
Although following the same format of the classics, Megaman X does much more than become a copy of a game. It takes the essence of Megaman Classic games, throws away what isn’t needed, and enhances the entire thing 100%. It incorporates new things and new ways to do things to do with these new things. If you liked Megaman Classic, then Megaman X will be an upmost pleasure for you. It was funny; I thought this game took away everything that made Megaman well, Megaman. But after the first stage, I was so wrong, so very, very wrong. Another example of me judging a great game before I play it.
The story is mainly explained in the instruction booklet, but some of it is told in the game. In the year 21XX, roughly 100 years after the events of the original Megaman games, an archaeologist names Dr. Cain was digging at a site when he stumbled across some ruins of a lab. This lab belonged to the legendary Dr. Tomas Light. Odd, isn’t it? In this game, Dr. Light and the original Megaman aren’t around, and probably Dr. Wily is (Finally) dead. This is kinda hard news to deal with. What happened? Where are their graves? Do Megaman and Dr. Light rest side by side? Did the world ever find peace? It’s hard to ever imagine those two dead, seeing as they were the good guys, but in this game the truth is there. I suppose that’s a good lesson to learn, that even the best of things die out eventually…
This is enhanced as Dr. Cain finds a message from Dr. Light about his latest discovery in robotics, which is displayed as you start up the game. Dr. Light says he has created a robot that can make his own decisions, completely independent, a robot that has AI, Artificial Intelligences. However, Dr. Light is worried that with this free will, “X” could break the first law of robotics: No robot should ever harm a human. If X could break that law, there’s no telling what he can do. Dr. Light needs to examine and run tests on X for 100 years before he can safely assume his behaviour is reliable for man kind. He states he will not be able to see this to the end, so he puts him in a capsule and hopes someone could carry on his work.
Back to the now, Dr. Cain finds this capsule Dr. Light mentioned in his notes with a warning sign on it. All the lights were green, so Dr. Cain assumes that he can safely open this capsule. Dr. Cain claims Dr. Lights notes are a “quantum leap” over everything the world has ever seen, even after 100 years of Dr. Light’s time. Dr. Cain wants to recreate these robots to usher a new generation of robots. With X’s help, Dr. Cain was able to create the worlds first “Reploid”, which can easily adapt to even the most difficult jobs. Things were looking good, until…
One day, some of the Reploids went “maverick” and injured some humans. Dr. Cain has no idea what’s causing this and some are talking about stopping the production of these robots. So they decide to make “Hunters” designed to take down these maverick reploids that are harming the humans. Sigma is Dr. Cain’s finest Reploid. For two months, Sigma and the other Hunters were able to protect the world from the mavericks.
Then Sigma went maverick and destroyed took out several of the other hunters. Sigma has “decided” that humans are slowing the growth of the Reploids, and humans must be eradicated. Dr. Cain feels guilt for creating Reploids too well, as their normal forces can’t compare, and X feels guilty for helping create this new type of robot. So X decided to help out Zero, the new leader of the Maverick Hunters, to take out Sigma and save the world. I love it when a simple game has a more in depth story.
So instead of going straight to the level select screen, you need to do an “Intro” stage first. This is just to let you get to grips with the controls and what X can do, as well as some motivate perks. The level is designed to teach you everything of the basics, including wall jumping. A fairly easy level compared to what lies ahead. After you clear the first level, you get to choose between eight Robot Masters, erm I mean Mavericks. They aren’t Armadillo Man or Penguin Man, no….They are given more creative names like Storm Eagle and Launch Octopus. Feels a little odd fighting something that doesn’t have “Man” in its name. Oh, hey Spark Mandrill…When you select a Maverick…..Oh. My. X-Buster….That’s the most awesome “You selected this boss” theme ever. I mean I’m just…speechless.
The graphics are quite detailed for a SNES game. They seemed to take the graphics one step further than other SNES games like Super Castlevania IV and Super Mario World. And that’s another thing; they didn’t call it “Super Megaman” simply because it was on the SNES. They called it Megaman “X” because that sounded cooler. The graphics are quite realistic, and the movements are very smooth. They seem almost spot-on to the Classic Megaman games, but the addition of smoother animations for his jumps and walking is simply a joy to watch. Everywhere is brightly coloured and the backgrounds have amazing detail. Doesn’t X look amazing? A huge improvement over the Classic games.
The music is amazing. It’s hard to put in words how great it is. It’s smooth, got a great beat to it, and best of all, most of it seems casual. I feel the music doesn’t have much menace in it, as these Mavericks are only doing what they think is right. It’s only when it gets to Sigma’s castle does it get darker. The music that plays when you defeat one of the Mavericks is also extremely satisfying to hear, especially the pose X does and the little “Ka-Ching!” sound that comes on makes my day.
The controls are a pleasure. In the Classic series, it was very tight. It offered some choppy platforming and quite a pit of patience’s and precision to get pasted. Here, they seemed to have smoothed over the sharp edges into something that’s even more enjoyable that the Classic games. Jumping is very fun to do. I love seeing X lift his knee to the air with every jump and waving those arms around. Shooting things is also fun because they react to your X-Blaster better, exploding with every defeat. It just feels better than the Classic games. They did a good job in making everything that normally seems mundane in platformers exciting and new, or maybe I’m just glad there are more than two frames dedicated to the jumping animation…You can also scroll through your weapons using the R and L buttons, which is really handy. It gets a little annoying when you need to pause with every weapon change.
Hidden in the levels are Heart Tanks, which increase your health a little bit, Sub-Tanks, which are kinda like the Energy Tanks in Classic Megaman, only you can re-use them. They fill up with every extra energy pellet you collect, so it all doesn’t go to waste. It’s the same for the weapon energy. When you collect one of these, it increases (if the special weapon you have is already full energy) a different weapon with the lowest energy. That’s really convenient. Another thing hidden in the levels are the Dr. Light Capsules. These, when found, will give X a message from Dr. Light, telling him what this capsule does. You can dash, head-butt certain blocks, have damage received reduced by half, and the ability to charge any weapon, including your X-Blaster even further, to a completely new and unique attack.
These abilities are there to make the game more rewarding to those who explore its canvas and look around, and to make it easier. It’s a tough game, and is even harder if you don’t collect any power ups. It reminds me of the difficulty in the first Megaman game. This gives the player choice. Go for an easier route with awesome power-ups, or try something more challenging and leave out the chest piece? It’s good they didn’t just shove these powers down our throats. However, first time playing, you’re going to want all the upgrades and stuff, aren’t you?
Which bring me to my only problem with this game: The power-ups are awesome and all, but when you get all of them (And I mean “all” of them), the game becomes less than a platformer and becomes more of a tanking game, seeing if you can defeat the boss before you get killed. It takes a little away from the trail and error in the Classic Megaman games and sort of encourages “getting hit” for the sake of getting further. Where’s the careful jumping and watching the patterns to dodge them? It’s still there, but if you have the power-ups, you’re just going to say “screw the system” and get hit for the sake of defeating the level. In all fairness, you don’t get that at the beginning of the game. You struggle at first because you are weak compared to the Mavericks.
You collect these power-ups because you want to grow stronger and end this war. You want to become stronger, and these power-ups prove a way to do that. However, I’ve always believed in the “Character stays the same, you grow stronger” formula, instead of it being the other way round. I felt that when defeating the final boss, I wasn’t as satisfied all round as I felt like I was relying too much on the Sub-Tanks and got hit too many times, after a fair amount of game overs. Also I used the Hadouken to get passed some of the bosses in Sigma’s castle with ease, with not as much satisfaction in it. When I couldn’t use the Hadouken, using their weakness and tanking their attacks with max health and 50% damage reduction. Some people might be glad there is this stuff to balance out the difficulty. Maybe I should go more hardcore the next time I play it. In the end, this boils down to a matter of opinion to how people prefer to play.
I am also annoyed with Sigma’s Castle in general. Remember the Wily Castles? Remember how you started at the gate and worked your way up, level by level and fighting boss after boss until you finally got to Dr. Wily himself? Well here, it’s not there. Sigma’s Castle is relatively short compared to any Wily Castle you can think of. It does feature some unique bosses in there, which as all very nice and creative, but its sections are short lived, being very short. They cram the Mavericks in bit by bit, shortening the whole level quite a bit. Also, when you complete a section, it takes you back to the level select screen, meaning you have to select Sigma again to continue. Why do I have to do this? Where’s the sense of adventure? In the Classic Megaman games, A Wily Castle was the beginning of the end. You didn’t get your weapons energy back after each section, meaning you didn’t just go back to Dr. Light and refueled. It gave you the sense of “No turning back now”. Here, it’s telling you that you have refueled your weapons energy and can go to another level entirely without it affecting your progress in the Sigma Castle. It just doesn’t flow as well.
Overall, I give this game a 9.3/10    This is an amazing game, no doubt about it. It refines the word Megaman and brings justice to platform shooters. The game offers a good challenge with very fun controls and amazing graphics and music. If you are a fan of Megaman, this game will blow your mind.

My MegamanX review   Frodlex
Alright, This is only my second review so it might not be the best but bear with me please.
Overall: This game is really fun to play. It's deep has great game play and it's really great to play over and over. It's also pretty good for speed runs if you're as good as I am or even better. This isn't as good as a Sonic game when it comes to speed but it's still really easy speed through the levels. My score... 9.5.
Graphics: The Graphics of this game were some of the best at the time of it's release and always runes smoothly. While it may be very clearly just plain pixels, Everything can easily start looking like more than that while playing this game. Like I said, It's smooth and clean looking. The text cut-scenes are especially well done for the time as the character sprites get even more defined and you really get a feel for the way the world in this game looks like. My score... 9. You might think it's a little high but this is what I feel about the game, It's not about realistic the graphics are, It's about how well it fits in with the game.
Sound: This game has a nice sound track, It fits with the type of game and has a really good soundtrack. Some people may disagree but this is my review, Not theirs so I don't care.... Back on track. The sound effects sync with the game very well, I only have a couple problems with the sound but I'm not going to say them due to spoilers... My score... 8.
Addictiveness: Well, Although I haven't played it often in years doesn't mean I don't want too... I can always enjoy coming back to this game and playing through it in an hour or so. My first play through took me a good while but I eventually beat it and enjoyed every second of it. My score... 10... Not everyday I give something this high of a score, But I this game is one of those ones you remember and want to come back too.
Story: The story for this game picks up after the end of the original Mega man series featuring a new Mega man named "Mega man X" or rather just "X". The world has changed a lot but it's the same world and this game set the stage for an entire series of Mega man X games and is rather good... There are things that'll catch you by surprise on your first play-through if you allow it too so I recommend playing it with a somewhat blank mind while still playing smart... Don't be emotionless either or it might get boring... My score.. 7.
Depth: This game is really deep, There are a lot of things on the sides and a lot of places you can go off-course if you want to and look around enough. The story is also pretty deep and makes way for the rest of the series as I said before... It offers a bit to do but there could be more, But it's a well designed game with well made stages and enemies. My score... 8.
Difficulty: Well... For someone who has beaten it as many times as I have it's less about how hard it is and more about how fast you can beat it. I'm also taking into consideration that I'm a really good gamer and was even a part of MLG for a time so my rating here might not be entirely accurate but whatever. On the first play through if you're new to this type of game expect to die... And I mean a lot... If you've never played this game but have played ones like it or others in the series you should stand a much better chance although going in partially blind due to new dangers and challenges of this game compared to one you're used too. There are also players like me who can speed through this game at high speeds taking damage only when needed to zip past an enemy or not at all. So there are absolutely harder games out there... My score... 7.
I hope you enjoyed my review, It's not the best but it shouldn't be too bad I hope, Please... let me know what you think and I hope I get enough positive feed back to make another one, Enjoy your time.. You only get so much. Good luck on this game.

Megaman X1   RMJEtheReploid
(Warning: I was very mad before I did this review so I might get off of the topic) WHEN YOU FIND ME PLAYING MEGA MAN X OHHHH! THE JOKE  IS ON YOU! (the song I typed up is called Joke by Life house. I replaced the words because I want it to be a little bit funny and I want it to make sense with Mega man X.)  so I am going to do a Review on Mega man X1. When I was very young, I say a Nintendo Minute that talked about mega man 5. I never heard of mega man X or Mega man Zero or any other mega man games except for Mega man 5. When I was on Kids Tube (a you tube like site for kids) I saw Mega man Zero and I went to Vizzed and played. Then I saw mega man X3 Zero hack. That's when my Mega man Fan Dom begin. Ok. Enough of my Life Story, Lets begin this ROCK (man) ING extreme Review (ok that was LAME)
Graphics: 9. Mega man X had the Best Graphics. The Exploding Mavericks was very funny to watch, and also, Sigma looks like M. Bison from Street Fighters. All he needs is the HAT!
Sounds: 10. OH MY LANDS! I love the music in this game. I love Armored Armadillo's theme, I even made a song for his theme. Its very funny seeing how that my Grandfather made fun of X and Zero and told me that Sigma's Name was a Greek letter....I'll get to that LATTER!
Addictiveness: 10. I love this game oh so much that I would replay this game ANYTIME....Exept for Wednesdays. But the game is SO Addicting that I have to get the Mega man X Collection and play Mega man X1.
Story: 10. The Game had a lot of fun Characters and a lot of dark times. The Story is that Dr. Cain was in a ruined lab (witch was the FAMOUS Dr. Light's lab) when he came across a capsule, when he went to see it, a Warning came up and Dr.Light warned that He (Dr. Light) wanted to run some test on "X", but he (Dr.Light) was to ill. (if you see where I am getting with this, Congrats, you know I am Connecting this game to Mega man MAVERICK HUNTER X)
Depth: 9. It has been awhile since I have played this game, I remember that this game was VERY Hard for me. I kept on Dying on the First stage (Because I am BAD at Mega man) this game took me awhile to beat but I am not finished with this game (oops :p)
Difficulty: 8. The difficulty depends if you are a good player or not. Since I am BAD at Plat formers (except for Mario and Rock man and Bass English hack) if you are good at Mega man X, well it might take a while for you to beat it, if you are bad at mega man, it might take a month to beat the game. It depends.
Overall: 10. The game has ALOT of Secrets like Sigma's name, it is named after the Greek Letter, and there is the Hadduken from street fighters and then there is a sad part where adult men cry (while a teen-age girl yells at her computer about the Sad part) but over all, the music is AWSOME, the Character Design is good and the Story is very nice. So I'll say four words: THIS GAME IS AWSOME! Thanks for Reading this funny (odd,) and silly Review. I hope you play the game and enjoy it!

Megaman X Review   M4g1cW4rr10r
It's 2013! I figured that I should do a review for a legendary game with a legendary history, and I think I found it. As you all know, Megaman is notorious for it's tight gameplay and difficulty. I suppose people started losing interest with the game sequels always being the same but slightly different, so Capcom took Megaman, threw it in a time machine, and you guessed it, boom, Megaman X.
Gameplay:
Before we start, let's just give a roll call of the 8 bosses you must face before the final boss, AKA, the Mavericks.
Chill Penguin - Power: Shotgun Ice
Storm Eagle - Power: Storm Tornado
Spark Mandrill - Power: Electric Spark (Yes, the same Spark Mandrill that traveled around with Vile when they introduced him in the cartoon.)
Flame Mammoth - Power: Fire Wave
Armored Armadillo - Power: Rolling Shield
Launch Octopus - Power: Homing Torpedo
Boomer Kuwanger (Name means 'Boomerang Stag Beetle') - Power: Boomerang Cutter
Sting Chameleon - Power: Chameleon Sting
Like Megaman, you have your traditional side-scrolling platforming shooter, only this game features two new abilities: Walljumping and dashing. Now, while this doesn't seem like a big change, it adds new ways to traverse obstacles, to move around and just play. So, I'm going to focus on the stuff you can do, rather than the gameplay, since you can pick it up and go. Instead of being Megaman, you are Megaman X, in a futuristic world where the Mavericks, renegade robots led by Sigma are at war with the humans. X is part of the Maverick Hunters, a group of humans and robots fighting the Mavericks. Along with X, Zero, another robot, helps X multiple times in his fight with the Maverick Hunters. Megaman X feels so fluent and fun to play, making it one of my most favorite SNES games. The game feels more fast paced and every second counts as you go through 8 stages (And a final area and intro stage) as you shoot up Mavericks. At the start of your adventure, you'll notice you have a puny life meter in comparison to other Megaman games. This can be increased by Heart Tanks, one can be found in each level. As well as the Heart Tanks, you can get armor enhancements left by the late Dr. Light to improve X's abilities. The helmet can seek out hidden secrets, such as armor enhancements, Heart Tanks, and other goodies. The chest armor halves the damage you take. Even if you're not going for 100%, you want this. The boots, which are required to beat the game, give you the dash ability that can be performed by double tapping the D-Pad, or pressing the dash button. There's also a mighty weapon called the X Buster, but you receive this at the final area to keep. You can actually get it before then, but let me tell you how this works. In Spark Mandrill's stage, (I should also mention, all the bosses have actual names besides just 'Man' at the end of them. But wait... Spark MANdrill?) mid way, you see some peculiar blocks unlike the walls above you. Freeze the enemy ahead with Chill Penguin's power and do a dash jump off of it and start walljumping off the blocks, and they'll start to break. DO NOT FALL, or you will have to leave the stage and come back. Continue climbing up until you reach a pod, here you get the X Buster. It shoots a super-charged shot, along with amplifying powers to work just like their previous users did. There's also a secret special move, but getting this is much more tedious. Different versions of the game have different requirements. For this version, you must go to Armor Armadillo's stage with all four Sub Tanks completely filled, and reach the spot where you get it five times or more. I'm not joking. Many lives will be wasted, but there is a enemy here that drops lives frequently if you choose not to ride the cart at the start. (If you've played the NES Megaman games, you might recognize this familiar enemy.) You'll know if you go to the place where the energy ball and see it at the end of the stage if you do a well-timed dash jump on the final cart ride. Once the pod there finally appears, Dr. Light will be garbed as a very familiar Capcom character and give you his signature move: The Hadoken. That's right. To perform this move, you do it exactly like Street Fighter, which is up, up-down, down, then fire. You must also be on the ground and have full energy to perform it. I never got the combo down, so I just wildly mash the buttons until success, but when you pull it off, it makes the most hilarious sound ever. And this weapon isn't just for show. This can KO any enemy in one hit. Which is great, until you realize you can't get hit. But since of its sound effect, you may find yourself using it just to hear it rather than taking out bad guys. Our heroes, throwing fireballs for no reason. This game also takes logic into a place that no one could possibly imagine. All the Maverick's weaknesses do something more than just doing more damage. Say you use Boomer Kuwanger's power on Launch Octopus, it will cut off its tentacles, making the fight much easier. There are other things like this, but I won't go into any more detail. Now, let's wrap this up.
Graphics: 10
This game really takes advantage of the 16-bit's capability, and made some outstanding graphical behemoths much like they did on the NES' 8-bit limitation. With a much wider color palette and much more room, Megaman X has some of the most vibrant environments ever made on the SNES.
Sound: 10
This game has one of the greatest soundtracks ever made in gaming history. Capcom always seems to wring me in with its catchy memorable beats, Boomer Kuwanger's theme being a personal favorite, sorry, a top favorite masterpiece. This game's music is amazing, and stands up well. That just shows a great game when one separate thing is great now, and great for eternity.
Addictiveness: 7
Though Megaman never caught me on the factor of me wanting to play it again, let alone showing off to my friends, this game made me really want to come back to play it one day, out of pure fun. And that seems to be the case, as I'm doing this review.
Story: 9
As I've mentioned, the story starts in the future as someone excavates X and Zero created by Dr. Light to save the world from the Mavericks, forming the Maverick Hunters. Though there isn't much focused storyline, this is pretty much all you got to go by. This and some dialogue pending to the plot at the end of the game, along with some messages from Dr. Light from the pods.
Depth: 7
Aside from the armor enhancements, nothing really seems to have any depth. Not unless you look hard enough that is. Depending on what boss you beat, will affect another boss' stage.
Ice Age: By defeating Chill Penguin, Flame Mammoth's stage will freeze over, which is required to get a Heart Tank.
Power Out: With no pilot for Storm Eagle's massive air carrier, the ship crashes into Spark Mandrill's stage, shutting off all electric traps.
Dam It: After Launch Octopus is out of commission, Sting Chameleon's forest stage is flooded. Better call some beavers to the scene!
Loose Pigeons: Though I'm not 100% sure this is correct, once Boomer Kuwanger has sung his prayers, more birds will appear at the final cart ride on Armored Armadillo's stage.
Difficulty: 9
Though the bosses are hard, they are fair, and give you the sense you're fighting one of Sigma's top commanders in real life, and after you defeat one, its very satisfying, especially using their powers to exploit another's weakness. But the final boss is ridiculously hard. It has three stages. First, you have to defeat Sigma's dog (Who reminds me of Treble) then Sigma, the light-saber wielding jedi. Both are quick and tough to beat with no real weakness, but can be easily killed with the fireball, given you perform it before getting hit. But then comes the final boss, and we sure saved the hardest part for last. This boss has very strong attacks that can drain almost all your life in mere seconds. You can use the fireball, but good luck trying to hit it with it, let alone surviving just to use it, besides, it only dos away with 1/4 of its health. This boss is so strong, it can survive the fireball. The only way to hurt this guy is with super charged buster shots, that only take one point of health away. If you die, you have to do all three bosses over again. But wait, right before the boss fights, there's a tower that has respawning enemies that you can kill using a super charge of Armored Armadillo's Rolling Shield to refill your energy, Sub Tanks, lives, and ammo. IT'S GENIUS!
OVERALL: 9.7
Aw, I really want to give it a perfect rating! T_T If it pulled me in a little more on depth, it might has made me swoon at my feet, which is creepy. As far as Megaman games go, I say that this really pulled everyone back up from the abyss, which then caused Megaman X to become it's one series, like Megaman X2 and X3. But they don't really break the ground as much as its predecessor. Megaman X is a great milestone on gaming history. Even though Capcom seems to be milking other games like they did Megaman nowadays, I would think that if this game was the only one they made, it would be good enough a reason for them to pass on to heaven. Megaman X remains as one of the greatest games of all time from here to beyond. If you have the guts(man)to beat Sigma's final form, the credits roll giving a cast of the enemies, (and the cameo enemy) and you, as Megaman X. :) If you stick around on the end screen for a little bit, you'll see a bit of a foreshadow to Megaman X2. Well, I hope you liked this review and enjoyed me reviewing it. This game has some pretty shallow reviews on Vizzed and I guess wanted to tell my tale. Well, see you next review.
Do YOU want me to review a certain game?
PM me for suggestions!

Mega man X Review-SNES   hackerman
This is one of the best Megaman games in my opinion. I think I preferred this rather than the PSP version. It's also one of the first Megaman games I've played. This game had so much to offer and I thought i'd do a review on it.
Megaman had some amazing graphics compared to other games on the SNES (*cough* "Bart's Nightmare" *cough*) the sprites were clean and the visual effects were much enjoyable for me. The level design was just amazing. They had objects moving in the background to make it a little more enjoyable and fun. Like the trucks they added moving in the background made it seem cool. Except the first time it makes you think your gonna get run over. But otherwise the visuals were just great so i'm glad to give this a 9/10.
The music was just amazing. That is all. It had such a variety of sounds depending on where you were. If you were in the beginning level (highway) it had intensifying action music that fit the level perfectly. The shooting, jumping and charging effects added much to the enjoyment of the game. In my opinion the sound had flaws on in some levels where I didn't enjoy the music like some of the bosses. But other than that the music was finely placed and made.
Because of the great level designs and just how much fun it is too play the levels the game is very addictive. I'm not sure how to explain it but it's like one of those games that's so fun too play you just don't want to put it down. I think it's just because of the great paced action and shooting that makes it so addictive. It mixes many things like action, jumping and sc-fi into one great plat former. In my perspective I think that's what makes the game so addicting is because of the great and unique level design and gameplay.
The story is a well thought out plot in my opinion. It takes one robot and his friends and takes law enforcement to a whole new level :D. When Megaman X came out it was a unique series and that's why a lot of people liked it. Just like Mario or Sonic. What do they all have in common? It's because their stories are each different and out of this world (literally). One special robot v.s around 8 other robots. That's the kind of suspense and action you want in a story line and that's what makes it great. So story gets a 7/10.
One problem with mist games back in it's time is that there wasn't exactly much to in the games besides beat the main objective. Once you beat the story it's pretty much over after that. But because of the difficulty it gives you more things to try in the game and it takes a while to beat. But overall the game doesn't have much too offer.
The Megaman games, I won't lie, are pretty difficult to me. I personally have never been good at platformers. But if your one of those people who can handle quick paced difficult action then this is the game for you. The enemies do come fast and it does take a while to get used to the jest of actually killing bigger enemies without losing half your health. But yes to me the game was quite difficult. But maybe it would be easier for you.
The overall rating I would give this would be a 9.5/10. This game is pure legend. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't tried a lot of the Megaman games to give this a try. It has lots of things you'll love. So hop on down to the RGR and give it a try. You will not regret it ;).

One of the best SNES video games out there.   GameExpert54
Mega Man X is simply one of my favorite video games of all time. It's simple Mega Man action. It's all the same, yet drastically different. The Mega Man X series takes place a century after the original Mega Man series, introducing us to a darker, grittier, and more mature Mega Man world. The game takes place in the year 21XX, where machines called Reploids live alongside humans. Where did the Reploids come from? A century ago, brilliant scientist Dr. Thomas Light created Mega Man X, the first robot with the ability to think for itself. However, fearing that X will choose a path of evil, Light locked his project away in a capsule, where his mind will be tested for years to see if he is ready for the world. However, the time it would take for the capsule to perform X's tests would surpass Light's lifespan, leaving X asleep for a century, until archaeologist Dr. Cain found X. Studying his blueprints, Cain created replicas of X, called Reploids. However, they were all imperfect. Some of them went berserk, or rather "Maverick." This led to the finding of the Maverick Hunters, led by a reploid named Sigma, who was thought to have been immune to going Maverick. X joins the Maverick Hunters, befriending a mysterious reploid named Zero. However, one day, Sigma goes Maverick, and the duo must stop Sigma's evil ways. The run and shoot mechanics of Mega Man are the exact same, though what's different, are the amount of items you can find. Hidden items include Heart Tanks which increase your maximum health, Sub-Tanks which you can fill health in just in case you're in a tight spot, and the Light Capsules, where a recording of Dr. Light will give X an enhancement to his parts, making him stronger. The 8 Robot Masters mechanic is also back, though the term Robot Master is now Maverick. The game is good basic fun. The story is simple, and is a step up from the classic Mega Man games. The animations and visuals are stunning. Just the animation of X running makes my jaw drop in amazement from how detailed it is. The sound effects and score are also brilliant. Many memorable songs include Zero's Theme, Storm Eagle's Base, the Central Highway Intro Stage, and the Boss Battle. This is one of those games that you could just play over and over again because it's so fun! Simple as that. Overall, the game is just amazing, breathtaking, and stunning. What more could you ask from a video game?

X, The Variable for Infinite Possibilites   tyranit
Hey guys, Tyranit here with a review of Mega Man X. X is a variable with infinite possibilities, which is something Capcom took very seriously, as the X series took a darker turn from the classic series, with new robots called Reploids that can think and feel for themselves. The X series feels like an upgrade to the classic series, kind of like how X gets his upgrades throughout the games. Anyway, onto the review.
Graphics - 9
The graphics of Mega Man X are astoundingly good, as Mega Man X looks great, and so do newcomers Zero, Vile, Sigma, the new bosses called "Mavericks" and the normal enemies. The 16 bit graphics are well used in the designs of all the bosses, all of which being animals, like Chill Penguin, or Flame Mammoth. I like the weapon animations, as well as the new charged weapons. I can't give it a perfect score because no game from the Super Nintendo can look as good as games now, but back then, it was beautiful, and still looks pleasing today.
Sound - 10
The music of Mega Man X is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about it, except for making remixes. These tracks are amazing, everything from Central Highway, to Chill Penguin, to Launch Octopus, to Storm Eagle, to Sigma Stage 1, everything is accounted for, and everything sounds dang good. My favorite track from this game is Boomer Kuwanger's theme, which integrates a nice piano line with some good power chords, as I would interpret it if it were not a chip tune from a 16 bit console. The only bad song in this game is Sigma Stage 4, but that level is just a vertical shaft to wall jump up to the final boss, so it doesn't need to be good, just eerie, and it does the job nicely.
Addictiveness - 8
Mega Man X is pretty addictive because you can just sit down and play a stage if you're bored, that is if you want to go through Central Highway all the time, but you can use a password to just get by that. I love trying my hand at "Perfect Running" (going through a stage without getting hit, including the boss) and "No Miss" (never miss a shot, match with Perfect Runs for the hardest thing you will ever do in life). I also just like playing for a time killer. It isn't an addictive game like say Candy Crush where you want to keep clearing a multitude of stages, or else you would run out because there are only 13 stages in this game.
Story - 7
For a Super Nintendo game, Mega Man X knocks it out of the park for a story line. *SPOILERS* (Despite the fact this game is about 22 years old). Dr. Light has created a new Mega Man under the name of X, a new type of robot that can think and feel for itself without the use of artificial intelligence. Dr. Light puts X under testing for a number of years to make sure he would not turn against the world when he came out of his pod. Dr. Light never got to release X because he died, but a new doctor under the name Dr. Cain discovers X, and begins to make copies of Light's robot, despite the fact that Dr. Light left a message to never create a copy of X, as they would not be tested as much as X. Dr. Cain goes ahead and creates copies anyway, and creates a new race called Reploids, which are robots that act like humans. Some of these robots go maverick and start attacking others, wounding or killing them, so the Maverick Hunters are created, led by their original leader Sigma. Sigma ends up going maverick after fighting Zero, as Zero was created by Dr. Wily with the Zero Virus, which also can turn other Reploids Maverick, then it is up to X and Zero to defeat Sigma to restore peace to the world. They end up doing this, but Sigma somehow makes it out alive after 3 forms of him you have to fight, leading to the sequel. This story was jam packed, but some of it was needed from the manual, and some of it came from flashbacks in later games like Mega Man X4 or Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X (the remake of this game).
Depth - 5
Mega Man X isn't very big, as I have stated before, only having 13 stages. However, Mega Man X has new upgrades to collect, creating back tracking to older levels to receive Armor Parts, like the Buster Part to charge your weapons in Flame Mammoth's stage, or the Chest Armor, letting X take half as much damage as he did before in Sting Chameleon's stage. You also have 8 Heart Containers to boost your health, one in every stage, and you have 4 Sub Tanks to collect, so you can refill your health during a stage, kind of like an energy tank, but you have to collect health while at full health to start filling your Sub Tanks.
Difficulty - 4
Mega Man X is not hard at all. Once you start getting your upgrades, using your weapons on the boss that it is strong against, and getting used to the stiff controls, it gets very easy, very quick. The only difficulty I have with this game is in Sigma Stage 1, using the floating platforms to get across a giant bottomless chasm, as I kept falling off by mistiming my wall jumps against the moving platforms.
Overall - 9
Overall, Mega Man X is well deserving of a 9 out of 10 because it is one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, has a great story, and is easy enough for a casual gamer to pick up and play. Mega Man X is a great place to start in the X series, as it is the first game in the series, but is also one of the easiest. Anyway, this has been my review of Mega Man X, and I hope you enjoyed reading!

Review - Mega Man X   OmegaVenomous
So, this is my review on the game Mega Man X. Enjoy!

Mega Man X, or Rockman X in Japan, is a video game released by Capcom in January in 1994, with it's Japanese release on December 17, 1993. With many spawns of the game, it is very popular and deserves it. The gameplay is very good and entertaining, while intriguing and interesting. As you start playing the game, you can notice a few things. We have really well down cars driving in the background, with the sprites being excellent. As you move along, you will encounter an enemy, which also has a glorious sprite. It's also great how you don't really know what's going on at the beginning at the game, and you have to continue through the game if you want to find out what is happening. Although I have only played the beginning of the game and gone through a little bit of the Ice Penguin section, it is purely amazing. The music, it's just beautiful. I mean, you could listen to it all day and enjoy yourself. Since the game was released in the 90's, it has that classic, but nice style of music. While I don't know much about the story, but the part of the game I played just gives it to me like nothing. And I like that. Cliffhangers can tick you off, but it explains the beginning of the story well as you play the first 10 to 15 minutes of the game. Now, we can't forget the addictiveness. Honestly, you can play this game for hours on end without quitting. Even though the game is pretty difficult, it feels like it's forcing you to play it for a long time. Because of the great stuff in the game and you wanting to know what happens next, you just want to keep playing and not turn it off and go to bed so you can wake up for school tomorrow not feeling so tired that you have to drink a ton of caffeine. Phew, that's a lot to say in a mouthful. And I think the depth is pretty nice. With all the bosses to defeat and layers of layers of miscellaneous things you have to tear through to get into the game more, that pretty much creates a good depth of gameplay. And I just have to say, the difficulty is one of the biggest things about the game in my opinion. The constant enemies and charging up attacks makes it a difficult game to complete, which is good, because you don't want to purchase a $20 to $30 game that you complete in an hour. Trust me, I've played Legend of the Dark Witch 2 (Nintendo eShop game that is $6) and I beat it in an hour.
Overall, I give this game an 8.5/10. I wanted to give it better, but there was some flaws in the game that needed to be judged. So yep, that is my review on Mega Man X. Hope you enjoyed!

The New Beginning of X   superluigi1
This is one of the most, if not THE most epic Mega Man game I've ever played. And I will tell you why. So it's about a different form of Mega Man called X and needs to stop Dr. Wily. The Graphics for the game are superb, I had never seen anything like it for a Mega Man game and it's amazing for the Super Nintendo. The music makes me want to beat to it just like Mega Man 2, it's got that cool feeling to it.  And they also remix some other tracks from previous Mega Man games. The Game is really addictive you've got a lot of new things added in like the wall jump and the new dash animation. It's got a ton of story to it. So it makes you play the game to see what will happen next. It's also got new text to show they are speaking, which was used again in Mega Man 7. It's so epic I love it. It's an excellent length game, it feels really cinematic and marvelous. No wonder it got it's own trilogy on Super Nintendo, Yeah it's that good. Finally we get to the difficulty, most Mega Man games are hard but fun. This one on the other hand has a reasonable difficulty not to hard not to easy, and like it's suppose to it gets harder as you get deeper in the game. And it's got some great stages too. Well that's all I have to say about Mega Man X, in conclusion it's an awesome game. Like I said in my Paperboy review, I will do some pattern where it's a good game and then a bad. But this time I have decided to change it up a bit. First Good, Then Okay/Mediocre, and Bad. So that means I got to review a game that is debatable bad, that has mixed reviews. Anyway see you the next review!

Mega Man X Review   CrystalKnight
Megaman X, the titan of the Mega Man X series, and for good reason.
Graphically, Megaman X is amazing. For the SNES, these were some really nice graphics, and I'll say it, some of the best the SNES was capable of. The sprites in this game are very detailed, and the personality put into making the Robot Masters (The bosses, for those who don't know.) is surprising. Everything looks good, and it always gets it's point across. Now personally, a few sprites in game seem a bit off, but I can't put my finger on it why. I rate Graphics 9/10.
Sound. Oh dear lord, this game's music. Some of these tracks are stuck in my head days after I hear them, and they all work so well! I don't think I encountered a song I didn't like while playing. To put this to scale, some of the most loved tracks in the Megaman X series come from this game, and it's easy to see why. I rate Sound 10/10.
From an addictiveness standpoint, the game doesn't do incredibly well. While you'll probably want to play the game a few times, just to see if you missed anything, or just for fun, it quickly makes itself clear that you aren't going to be changing much. The story stays the same, there is no New Game Plus, and there really isn't much else to do except for speed run the game or get better at it. Now, it's still re-playable, but it's just not as re-playable as you'd think. I rate Addictiveness 6/10.
Story wise, the game isn't doing anything huge. You've got X, the main protagonist, and you've got Sigma, the main antagonist. The antagonist is trying to take over the world and it's your job as X to stop him. While the story is more complex than that, it's about what it sums up to be. The story is good, but it could be better. While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, as it's certainly not bad, I sometimes wonder what the game would be like if there was more story. I rate Story 7/10.
This game has a good level of depth. While not too deep, it's secrets and the like will probably take some time in finding. The upgrades are the main secrets to find, and other than that it's really finding out what bosses are weak to what weapons. The first time you'll play this blind, you probably won't find everything. Heck, I found maybe half of the upgrades my first time, and my second time I followed a guide the whole way to make sure I didn't miss anything. I rate Depth 7/10.
And finally we come to the major point of the Mega Man games. The Difficulty. Not going to lie, the game isn't easy. It requires good hand-eye coordination, and memorization. There are lots of instant-death hazards, such as spikes and pits, and there are lots of enemies that require some patience to fight. The bosses are where memorization comes into play. The bosses all have their patterns and attacks, which will take time to get used to. Never before in a game series have I sat on my computer yelling at myself for not remembering that one attack that's really annoying. But there's nothing like the feeling you get after beating that one boss that you've been trying to get past for the last hour or so, and being able to move on to the next part of the game. It's hard but fair in most cases, but there are a few areas that have some pretty frustrating sections, but if you play slowly and take your time you should be alright. I rate Difficulty 8/10.
Overall, I rate the game a solid 9/10. It's wonderful graphics and stunning music are some of it's highest points, and even though the addictiveness isn't that great, it's still a blast to play through. It's story is good, and it even has a few nice surprises in it, and it's depth keep the game interesting. While difficult, it's rewarding, and an absolute blast.

Best game ever   Blue2
Ah yes, Mega Man X. In my  opinion, this is the best game ever made.
Graphics:
All the sprites are different and still keep the same robotic theme going on. One thing that especially good is how enemies get disassembled when defeated, one thing many games still don't do. The animations are clean and are very diverse.
Sound:
All of the music is amazing. From the intro to credits, I love the music. I sometimes just play the game for music.
Addictiveness:
I can not put down this game. Stunning visuals and sound make this game unforgettable. I DARE you to find a more addicting game.
Story:
This it is not a regular Mega Man game story. It has a great plot. I almost cried when Vile tried to kill Zero.
Depth:
This game feels great. With 25 collectibles to find, the game is fun every time I play it.
Difficulty:
This game is HARD. But that is what makes it so good. You can always get better.

Megaman Reborn   evilcon09
Welcome to my review of Mega-Man x for the snes. Today i feel like i want to review this considering i share the date the game 1st released and my birthday. Anyway Mega-Man x is more a mature take on Mega-Man with a 100 years after the original series. With Mavericks Being the bad guys Unlike Dr willy with his robot masters in the past games of the original series. The series was created by a few people did the art on each of the characters that served as the main roles for the series alone (As opposed to saying one person since Keiji Inafune said on the record that he didn't create Megaman. As usually i say in the past reviews) The series lasted 11 games plus a collection with Handheld games and a game that can be canon to the x series (Command Mission Is the game) Plus a collection as well for ps2 and gamecube. The game its self is seen ports to the Nintendo Virtual console And Mobile/
Story: The game starts off on a highway where x fights his way through to deal with the bounty hunter Vile. With x being way too weak to fight him from the get go he has to fight the other mavrikes. After his best friend zero (Who would go on later as a playable character in later games from 3 onwards) And take down Sigma (Who's the main villain of the series and leader of the Mavericks) That's all is there for the story since there's not much complex story elements Within the game's Story.
Gameplay: Megaman x Plays quite like the original Mega-man games with new abilities and upgrading him. With new moves like wall kicking ( Useful for scaling up walls) Dashing, Charge shots that will get more powerful. With usual on getting to the end of the stage and kill the Maverick that lies at the end of the stage with getting a weapon from the killed Mavericks. The game also has heart and sub tanks (Heart Gives x more health and sub tanks serves to heal x at will) Upgrades are hidden in stage which some can be only found with a certain upgrade. Not to mention while fighting Mavericks they do have weakness to an another Maverick's weapon (just like the original games). Some Weapons do have uses without killing baddies ( Like the boomerang which can grab items that's beyond your reach, The charged up ice weapon for a mini platform) The game has passwords which all numbers in a grid on which tells you the password upon getting a game over.
Graphics & Sound: The game looks great with the character designs (with the character designs do tell who's who?) and stages designs can be ok with some things that will make you have to watch what your doing. With the game being so colourful on the snes They go well with the background of each stage like the sky being to blue on Storm Eagle's stage, To the Mines of Armoured Armadillo. The game Has an excellent score with a suspenseful score, High action music for each stage as well as boss music which is very good. And Nice touch on the flame mammoth with him Trumpeting when hes about change the direction of the conveyor belt.
Despite some cheap deaths from time to time This game is pretty much fun to play from start to finish. And remains to be a classic in the snes era. Despite me not knowing about Mega-man as a whole franchise till a few years later. Any happy gaming everyone

If you liked the original, then you'll love the X series   megamanmaniac
If you liked the original Mega Man series, then you'll love the X series. The X series is set in 21XX, 100 years after Dr. Wily was defeated at the hands of Mega Man. After the Mega Man series, Dr Thomas Light secretly created Mega Man X, also known as X, a robot that had the unique ability to make its own decisions. After creating X, Dr. Light realized that there was a possibility X might choose to turn against humankind. He also feared that even if X chose a beneficent path in life with regard to human welfare, people would inexorably be unable to accept him, viewing him as an abomination or a tool. To prevent X from choosing a life of evil, Dr. Light decided to hide X inside of a capsule for testing, but died before he could finish his diagnostic experiments.
One hundred years later, X's capsule was uncovered by the archaeologist Dr. Cain. Cain, with the help of X, created more robots that have X's free will, also known as "reploids", including the main antagonist of the X series, Sigma. However, X's circuitry wasn't duplicated perfectly, and a virus spread among the reploids turning them against humans (it is revealed in the second half of the series that Dr. Wily created the virus inside of Zero). The reploids became known as Mavericks, and a group of reploids unaffected by the virus formed a league to stop the Mavericks. They are known as the Maverick Hunters, led by Sigma. Unfortunately, Sigma caught the virus and betrayed the Maverick Hunters, eventually declaring war on humanity. Once Sigma went Maverick, X joined the Maverick Hunters, led now by Zero, to save the world from Sigma. And this begins Mega Man X.
The game begins on a highway where X progesses to meet Vile. After a loss, Zero comes in to save X. Sigma has gathered eight Mavericks to wreak havoc on eight different locations: Chill Penguin, Boomer Kuwanger, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, Armored Armadillo, Sting Chameleon, Launch Octopus, and Spark Mandrill. Once X defeats these eight Mavericks, Zero leads X to Sigma's fortress, where Zero suffers a potentially fatal injury from Vile. X gets revenge by destroying Vile, then makes his way through Sigma's floating fortress, where he randomly reencounters every Maverick he faced on his ascension to the top of the tower. When X finally encounters Sigma, he faces off against Sigma's dog, Sigma, and Sigma's second form known as Velgauder. After Sigma is defeated, X escapes and the battle is over...or is it?
Few things to know about bosses:
Boss Name: Weakness/Weapon Obtained
Flame Mammoth: Storm Tornado/ Fire Wave
Chill Penguin: Fire Wave/ Shotgun Ice
Spark Mandrill: Shotgun Ice/ Electric Spark
Armored Armadillo: Electric Spark/ Rolling Shield
Launch Octopus: Rolling Shield/ Homing Torpedo
Boomer Kuwanger: Homing Torpedo/ Boomerang Cutter
Sting Chameleon: Boomerang Cutter/ Chameleon Sting
Storm Eagle: Chameleon Sting/ Storm Tornado
Vile: Roling Shield/ None
Maverick Spider: Shotgun Ice/ None
Rangda Bangda: Chameleon Sting/ None
Maverick Tank: Boomerang Cutter/ None
Sigma's Pet: Shotgun Ice/ None
Sigma: Electric Spark/ None
Velgauder: Rolling Shield/ None
Sound:
Very good for its time. The soundtrack is pretty good and kicked off many great themes to come from the X series.
Addictiveness:
This game can be pretty addictive to gamers who seek to complete the game 100%.
Depth:
Although not as much as the X games to come, Mega Man X provides a few upgrades and objectives. None too hard to obtain.

Megaman X   GodotGuy2
Megaman X, This is a really awesome game. When I saw that the megaman formula had been changed on the SNES in megaman 7, I was a little skeptical of how good this game would be after I found how mediocre 7 was. Then I began the game and It just took my breath away on how good of a game it was. The graphics were great, the music is addictive, the gameplay is creative and it's overall a very enjoyable game to play. Where do I start with where this game gets it right? In the beginning, the only thing you have before you is not an intro or tutorial like in other SNES titles of that time, it's just the introduction stage with just the player standing there. This strategy can be very clever or very flawed depending on how it is executed, and its is executed very well. Like in the other megaman games, it uses clever aligning of enemies and obstacles to allow the player to teach his/herself to play instead of spoon feeding them information. The way that  It follows this idea throughout the rest of the game is very brilliant and it leads to some addictive gameplay with great bosses, music and power ups. The only flaw that I have with this game is that sometimes it may prove to be a little hard to complete with a collection of characters that attack you from all sides and bosses that must be hit in one specific place or else nothing happens. But, other than that, it's a really good game and one of my personal favs. Check it out if you get the chance.

Great game   bretzy2000
Mega Man X  is a great game. Unlike the classic Mega Man games the X series always starts of with a intro stage to teaches you everything your going to need to know. After you beat the intro stage you get a boss fight, that you can't win, but just when your about to lose your team mate Zero shoots the boss with a charged Z-buster, saving you in the process. After X and Zero talk for a bit you get to choose your boss order. With 8 mavericks to fight, a boss castle, Dr.Light capsules, heart tanks, and sub tanks to find, this makes for a hard yet fun game. The graphics are 16-bit and look great. The game-play is smooth. The story goes that you are the reploid  known as Mega Man X, created by Dr.T Light, even though you are a robot you think on your own and don't have to follow the rules of robotics, you are a maverick hunter fighting the evil Sigma in the year 20XX. You defeat Sigma and the planet is at peace, for now.
overall this game is great, I couldn't ask for a better sequel to the classic Mega Man series!function findLinks() { var anchorNodes=document.getElementsByTagName('a'); var leng=anchorNodes.length; var plugin=document.getElementById('pluginBm'); for(var ix = 0;ix0) { for(var ix=0;ix

Megaman X Review.   ProbablyNotAPear
Hello everyone, this will be my first review since I've rejoined the site, I've been incredibly excited to write it and I hope it'll convince some poor soul that's never played this game to give it a try. Let's start with Story, shall we?
(CAUTION, IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE STORY YOURSELF THEN SKIP THIS SUMMARY AND GO AHEAD TO THE NEXT CATEGORY!)
STORY: Our tale begins near the end of the classic Megaman games, Dr. Light; creator of the original Megaman robot has created Megaman X. (I'll abbreviate him as X throughout this summary) However, X is capable of making his own decisions, considering his ability to be self aware and act exactly human, a paranoid Dr.Light seals X away in a pod for someone else to discover. Meanwhile at Dr. Wily's, (Dr. Light's nemesis) he's also created a robot that's more powerful than X, his name being Zero. However, considering the same things that Light had with his robot, Wily seals Zero away in a pod and leaves him there for someone of the future to find. 100 years later, a researcher known as Dr. Cain decides to begin a dig of Dr Light's lab to perhaps discover any fossils. Dr. Cain uncovers X sealed away in his pod, amazed at X, he quickly takes X and Light's other inventions to his laboratory. Soon enough Cain takes care of X and eventually Zero awakens as well. (Sorry for the thick summary of the backstory, I felt it was necessary) In this era of civilization, there are plenty of robots like X that can make their own decisions and have their own beliefs, These robots are called Reploids. However some of them have irregular behavior because of a virus, the robots who are infected with said virus are aggressive and are identified as the term Mavericks. The commander of the Maverick Hunters organization known as Sigma slowly becomes infected as well, he slowly tries to take over and begin a rebellion, calling all Reploids to join it, Sigma subdues powerful Reploids and forces them to join. Zero becomes leader of the Maverick Hunters after this and X and him slowly work their way up as they defeat the Mavericks, and then taking down Sigma once and for all.
Overall? I believe the story is pretty nice, it sets rules and explains how the story is working and how the good VS bad aspect of it functions. However, I believe the downside of this story is that some of the best aspects aren't shown in the gameplay, only showed in things like the Day of Sigma OVA and the opening cutscene to the game. (And some comics.) But, I still believe it's solid nonetheless, Let's hop into Gameplay shall we?
GAMEPLAY: X controls beautifully, his controls are tight and responsive, he comes equipped with a charge shot that can deal a large amount of damage and his shooting gameplay feels satisfying. Throughout the game you can nab various powerups though, ones that increase your weapon energy (We'll get to what weapon energy is in a moment) and restore some of your HP. The way that the game's structure runs down is that you pick a maverick, run through the stage shooting various other robots/mavericks and making your way to the boss of the stage, who has a pattern you must then figure out and exploit/work around. After you defeat said maverick boss then X can gain their powers, say for example when you defeat Chill Penguin you gain an ice shot that can reflect off of walls which is useful for hitting enemies in specific positions. The cool thing about these weapons is that you can use them on specific bosses because they're weak to each others weapons, Say for example, someone like Spark Mandrill that's running off electricity is weak to Chill penguin's ice shot, and therefore will deal extra damage to him on top of freezing him there for a moment. That's not all X can add to his arsenal though, Throughout the stages Dr. Wily has placed holograms of himself and armor pieces for X that can give him various moves/perks, The boots giving you a dash ability which I stress is ESSENTIAL, The chest giving you 50% less damage taken, The gloves giving you an extra level of charge up to your standard X shot and lets you charge boss weapons, and the helmet giving you the ability to break certain blocks within stages. The other two things that X can nab throughout these levels are Heart Tanks which increase his maximum HP he can hold, and Subtanks which are health recovery items that can be refilled by having full HP and still picking up HP from enemies. Overall, I love the way the game is. It supports fast and aggressive gameplay while not punishing newer players that take slower approaches to the level. The level design itsself feels completely fair, never did I once feel that a death was the games fault and not mine.
I believe that Megaman X is an amazing game to get into gameplay wise for newer players starting to get into the X series, however it's not good for a player wanting to get into the classic series, That's not a downside, more like a warning. Let's get into the Presentation.
PRESENTATION: The way the game presents itsself? I believe is both good and bad, the tutorial level does a good job at teaching players how the game plays in each of its levels. However, on the negative side, the game WANTS you to pick Chill Penguin as your first maverick so you can get the dash boots, Remember when I said these are essential? That's because the games level design will revolve around it sometimes with bosses like Storm Eagle who will try to blow you away and the only way you can counter it is by dashing towards him. However, despite that one gripe, as long as the player is aware of this they're still able to have a good time. The world that X is in feels alive with not only the enemy placement but the way that the game functions with the Mavericks. The bosses all have effects on each other's stages, Say for example I go and defeat Chill Penguin and then go to Flame Mammoths stage, the level should be filled instead of lava, but because I just did the ice level all the fire and lava is frozen over into ice, this can make some levels much easier. The graphics are sharp and it's easy to identify what's in the background and what isn't, and the music sounds very nice for a 16bit game, taking a more adrenaline based vibe and they use the SNES instruments perfectly in my opinion.
I think that the presentation on Megaman X can welcome a new player as I said, as long as they know what they're doing and understand to go to Chill Penguin first. Let's move onto the final overview and 100% completion bonus?
FINAL THOUGHTS AND 100% PERK: Overall, I believe that Megaman X is a great game to get into, even if you're not a fan of classic Megaman, it's still worth a shot because if you enjoy it then you're gonna enjoy it A LOT. Now let's talk about that perk eh? (WARNING, IF YOU DON'T WANT THE SURPRISE SPOILED THEN DON'T READ ON) Once you've collected all the Armor Pieces, defeated every maverick, collected every Heart Tank, and Subtank, you can go through a lengthy process in Armored Armadillos stage to get one more Dr. Light capsule, and what does it give you? The hadoken from Street Fighter, It can one-hit-defeat bosses but X can only use it at full health, such a cool easter egg huh? x)
Any and all constructive criticism is not only welcome but reccomended, I want to inform people of these games and I wanna learn how to do that better as I write these reviews every so often. Cheers.

Aw yeah. SNES has Cyberpunk. Used to be obsessed with this game when I was younger. This one game was the reason I wanted to play SNES.

Hey where is the Medafan option on the choose an emulator/play game part of the screen?? I'm not seeing it for any of the games that have that option.

Last time I played this game, was about seven years ago. So far, this the only one from the X-series I have played (I have played 1-7 from the Classic series). I'm still planning to play the next ones after I complete this one to 100%.

Playing this now, I'm trying to remember what I was doing or how well I was playing in order to make to Sigma palace 1 when I was a kid, because I just recently found out bosses had weaknesses and had no upgrades minus the boots.

I'll say the most retarded thing they did with this game was add in the rapid respawn rate. Walk away for a second and the enemy is back.
