Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse Box Description

Led by the immortal Count Dracula, the greatest army of evil ever assembled is poised to bury mankind in a Tomb of Terror. Destroying this legion of Swamp Dragons, Slasher Skeletons and Forces of the Undead will be the supreme challenge for the mightiest of warriors. Your place in history is 100 years before Simon Belmont's birth. Dracula is young at heart, and it will take more than a stake to penetrate his evil. Luckily, you command the role of Trevor - Simon's forefather and the origin of the Belmont Warlord Chromosones. Trevor has a power never before seen by human eyes - the power to transform into three different spirits: Grant DaNasty, the ferocious Ghost Pirate. Sypha, the Mystic Warlord. And Alucard, Dracula's forgotten son. You must perfectly time Trevor's body transformations to match up his different fighting spirits against Ultimate Evils. Trevor also has the strength and wisdom to command the Battle Axe, Invisibility Potion and Mystic Whip. But the most important weapon Trevor has is your cunning to choose the correct Paths of Fate and your bravery to lead him past 17 possible levels of never-ending doom, including the Haunted Ship of Fools, the Sunken City of Poltergeists, the Clock Tower of Untimely Death and Curse Castle. Never before have so many dangers confronted you at one time. And if by some miracle you triumph, you'll no longer be a mere mortal. You'll be a legend who'll live forever!

Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse Review by: Zircron Swift - 9.2/10

Will this game make up for Simons Quest?
After the sales of castlevania II Simons quest, they had to get back on track and make a better game. To be honest. I never played Simons Quest. I was told by many people it was a terrible game not living up to Castlevania standards (sorry for those who liked the game, and to those who got high hopes for that game, nothings stopping you from playing it, you might like it. But this isn't about Simons Quest, this is about Castlevania III Dracula's Curse). So I listened to them and probably will never play it. So I'm basing that on what others had said (why I played Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when the Nerd said not to play it at all, even if it was for free, I don't know). I skipped that game and went to Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, because they said it was a superb game. Well, the first one was good, and the fourth one was epic, so sure, this one should be worth the 500 Wii Points. And so it began...

The game looks like it has a deeper storyline than normal. Simply because this game lets you play as someone else. When you meet one of the three characters, they say a little about themselves, and then you get to choose to take them or not, or replace them with the one you already have. This creates an interesting element that makes you play the game over and over to find who to choose when for the best play though. if that wasn't enough, the every now and then, there's a fork in the road, and you must choose which way to go. Again, this creates that interesting element of playing through over and over just to see every level. Some routes are easier, and some are harder, but with the possible reward of an easier next level, or a companion. You only get one at a time. you can choose:
Grant, some hunch back pirate who can climb walls.
Sypha Belnades, a young sorceress who can use spells depending on the sub-weapon she picks up.
Alucard, Dracula's son. He can shoot fireballs and can turn into a bat. Like father like son.

Sadly, you must meet them in their appropriate locations. You don't get the choice of all three at one time. It depends on which way you go. So you must play again to see all the levels, to see which way gets the companion you want, and to see which one works best for you through out the game. Some serious replay values this game has. I think I should mention that hearts are not health, but ammo for sub-weapons, and always will be in Castlevania games. There's one point in the game where you go to a castle, only to escape from it. So you go backwards, but really you go forwards....?

Ok, Dracula's returned, and you, Trevor Belmont must defeat Dracula and rid his castle of evil. I think i see a pattern emerging...
Anyway, this game is good, but it has some flaws. You can't use sub-weapons on stairs. I know, insane, isn't it? You'll have to learn to dodge fireballs on stairs. A least it's easier than dodging those ghosts on the stairs in Ghost busters for the nes. This game can be very challenging. Another flaw is the last level. Not the last level it's self....well, kinda. When you get to Dracula, normally when you die, you begin at the bottom the stair case, you go up at a 30-45 degree angel, then you take a very small drop, then a corridor to the left, then a room in which Dracula teleports and fight you. Like most of the other castlevania games (compare it with other Castlevania games). On this game, however, when you die, you start about two-thrids past the level. And if you get a game over, you must start at the beginning of the level. So consider this, if you completed this game, you are a Castlevania legend. This is harder than the first one, so this game is good for the bold Castlevania fans.

Once again, they out-did themselves with the music. These are classics because they appear in future games as well. Overall, I give this game a 9.2/10 It's different from the rest, but I like it. It might be hard as hell, and it's got a few flaws, but I would play this game again. You'll have too if you want to see all the levels and bosses.

Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse Game Description

Taking place 100 years before the events of Castlevania 1 and Castlevania 2, Dracula the Vampire has risen up to threaten the small village of Warakiya. Citizens who had banished the Belmont family now beg for Trevor Belmont's help in slaying Dracula. In his strange castle, Dracula has been assembling a massive army of undead creatures to sweep the Earth clean of life and bring everlasting darkness. Trevor agrees to help and equips his family's hereditary whip, the "Vampire Slayer", in order to destroy Dracula.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is a side-scrolling platform game. The gameplay is nearly identical to the first Castlevania game. The player takes the role of Trevor Belmont who is able to move left and right, jump, attack with his whip straight ahead and use a special weapon. These special weapons consume hearts, which can be found by defeating monsters or destroying candles. Power-ups include: a throwing dagger, a throwing axe, A time-stopping stopwatch, a cross-shaped boomerang and a vial of holy water. Additionally there is a double shot (II) and triple shot (III) power-up which increases the number of special weapons that can be used at one time. Trevor is defeated if his life meter runs out, and can find a roast turkey power-up to replenish it. Trevor progresses through each level defeating monsters and eventually encountering a boss creature. At different points in the game the player will be able to chose between different paths, which will determine which levels are played.

At the end of certain levels, the player may encounter a companion which can be recruited. Only one companion can accompany Trevor at any time; accepting a new companion means rejecting the existing one. Once recruited, Trevor can change between his own form and that of the companion. Each companion has an independent life meter and has unique abilities such as powerful magic, the ability to climb walls or flight. These abilities may also affect the types of power-ups that appear in candles and the exact function of special weapons.
