Today I am going to review Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse, the one Castlevania that I call my personal favorite, with its graphics and addiction. Now, let's review yet another classic NES game.
DIFFICULTY: 8
This game is probably the second most difficult game for the NES in the Caslevania category, the first is Castlevania 2. It has some tough paths to cross, death pits, and tough bosses and enemies. Yeah, it took me a while to beat the game, but the final boss, Dracula, was even more tough, he has THREE Forms of himself, first is standard Dracula, then this group of disturbing heads in some cloud figure, then the final form is some SUPER Dracula, which he is in some Gargoyle type of form, which is pretty intimitating to say the least. Yeah, this is one of those cheap deaths games. It will take some time for those who haven't played a Castlevanioa game in their lives. Challenging, but beatable. It takes practice.
DEPTH: 7
It has a total of 15 stages depending on where you go, sometimes you have a choice to go either one way or another way. Link a fork in the road. You go and fight a somewhat lengthy level. There is no small level/world in this game, it will take at least 5 or more minutes to get across depending on how many enemies are trying to kill you, there are some booby traps if I recall correctly and plenty of death pits in every level, you have to do a lot of jumping in some levels, like some little platforms. Beatable, not too hard, but its something to watch out for, don't take the levels too lightly, it can kill you any time.
STORY: 6
The story is this, according to the game: "The year is 1476, and Count Dracula has started to ravage Europe with an army of monsters. The Belmont family of vampire hunters, once exiled from Wallachia, are called into action by the Church. They feared the Belmonts' "super-human" power, but with Dracula menacing to swallow Europe in darkness, they are left with no choice but to call Trevor Belmont who is Europe's only hope."
This is the game that you can say started the Belmonts, Trevor Belmont is the first Belmont in my knowledge. He gets joined by 3 allies known as Grant DaNasty, Sypha Belnades, and finally, Alucard Tepes. The son of Dracula. They can be found in the end of some worlds, but I have not found Alucard, so he might be in the end of a specific world that I have not been in. So, there is the story, not too shabby. Good backstory, it shows the story in the title screen of the game.
ADDICTIVENESS: 9
This game is really addicting, you can't put the controller down once you start this game, its very fun, and it keeps you detirmined in the game, especially the ALTERNATE ENDINGS. You have different endings when you beat Dracula with Grant, Sypha, Alucard, or even by yourself. Its always interesting to beat the game in different ways no matter how long you play it. The game always keeps you on the ball and never really bores you.
SOUND: 9
The music in the game and the game's sound effects win the game over for me, it is always fun to listen to the game's theme song for its world, you can listen to it over and over and over and over again and you still would call it awesome, the sound FX was really good, you got to love those 8 bit sound fx if your an old school gamer like me.
GRAPHICS: 10
The graphics are at their best in this game, the variation in color, shapes, and fx are awesome! I can't get enough of the lightning effects in the game. Its really realistic and it is fun to see it in a dark room, its strobe lights! Sorta. All I say is this, great job on this game, Nintendo. I was really impressed with it.
OVERALL: 9.5
This game is one of my all time favorites in the NES in general, and the best in the Castlevania games IMO. If you are a fan of the NES games, please don't hesitate to go and play this RIGHT NOW!
Thanks for reading and happy gaming!
