Kirby's Epic Yarn Review by: ZeroTails - 8.5/10
Kirby's Epic YarnAh, Kirby's Epic Yarn. A game I have spent hours on and almost finished. It's not a traditional Kirby game, but it's still a good game, never less. I have enjoyed it, and that's why I will give it a decent score. It's not the best game on the Wii, but, you should still at least give it a chance.
Graphics:10/10This is for the Wii, therefore, it's impossible to look as good as the PS3 or anything like that. However, what Nintendo managed to do was amazing. I don't know WHO came up with the idea to make everything out of yarn, but, well, everything's made out of yarn. Or beads. The yarn graphics look amazing and new, what other game has yarn that you walk on, yarn that you attack, and a character made of yarn? My favorite levels in terms of graphics have to be the underwater levels. I, unlike many other people, like underwater levels. I especially like how they made the top of the water blue yarn. One of the levels have dust-like particles that just look so cool to me! I just like the sereneness of the water levels. The space levels also look pretty cool and original because, yarn!
Sound:8/10I just love the music in this game. It's composed so that you feel a certain way in each level, and it does a pretty good job as well. Most of the time the music is happy and cheerful but some tracks just make you sad for some reason. Like Kirby's Pad. The melody there is all cutesy like the rest of the game, but you get a sad feeling as well. Now, not every track is memorable, like Mega Man or Sonic, but the soundtrack is decent enough that I remember some tracks. Like the Squashini boss track. That track was very memorable and fits SO well with the boss fight. Also, who could forget the classic Kirby songs they brought back and remixed for the last world? Those were some of my favorites.
Addictiveness:7/10This can go two ways. Either you breeze through the game or you try to find every little collectible. The first scenario will pass by pretty quickly, and the second one will take significantly longer. Since you can finish the game in a short amount of time with very little effort, you might want to replay it, just to hear the music or play through the unique levels again. But going for a 100% run through, takes a lot out of you, especially the mini games. At least, I know I wont be doing a 100% run through anytime soon.
Story:6/10This is one of the few downfalls the game has. The story starts with Kirby eating a yarn maximum tomato, then this sorcerers called Yin Yarn sucks you in his sock. You find yourself in this yarn world, where you meet Prince Fluff. You help Prince Fluff by getting magic yarn to repair Patch Land. That's all. The story picks up around the end, but not by much. The voice acting isn't the greatest either. I mean, I guess it's sorta good, but it could be a lot better. Kinda like Mega Man X4. Only that Nintendo didn't screw up the voice acting that much.
Depth:8/10This game has a surprising amount of depth when you look for it. You have medals that you can get by collecting beads (the currency), hidden items in the levels, two shops that open up eventually, mini games that you can play for fabrics, and two extra levels that you can unlock in each world. Only problem is, you can skip ALL OF IT. You can ignore everything, beat the final boss, then just put the game down. That's good for people who just want to finish the game, but you want the full experience, don't you know. This gets an 8 out of 10 just because of how much you can do in the game.
Difficulty:6/10This game is easy. Why is it so easy? Because you can't DIE. I'm serious, you can't die by taking damage, and if you ever happen to fall in a pit, you will always be saved by an angle yarn thing. There is a consequence, though. You lose beads, and in some mini games, you lose time. That can be really aggravating when you are trying to get a gold medal, or beat a mini game. Also, some of the mini games can be downright CHEAP sometimes. There is difficulty in the game if you look for it, but it's still not a very hard game.
Well, that was my review. This was also my first review, so if you have any constructive criticism, I will gladly accept it.
Edit: I fixed the medal spelling mistake that Lunar pointed out
Edit 2: I made the review longer and more descriptive.
