And, it looks like a huge gimmick just like the Wii U. Only this time, it's not streaming to the Switch like the Wii U was. But hey, you can play Skyrim on it! A 5 year old game nearly everyone's already played. Call me cynical, but, I am incredibly disappointed. I just want Nintendo to make a console with no gimmicks. Here's the trailer for it

Juliaisme123 : Okay, first off, that darn song was starting to get annoying. Second, while I am interested in the fact that you can take it anywhere, I think all the different game-pad configurations are a bit needless and gimmicky. It's a Transformer that also happens to be a game console.

I'm waiting to see what new games are coming out for it, but I'm not expecting anything really exciting. It's going to take quite a bit to put this on my radar. It kinda just looks like an updated Wii U to be honest.

That looks so cool, but we don't know anything about the price or games coming out on the console, or the price.

I really like the idea of it being a hybrid, that's literally the only reason I would get it.If there's a few good games on it too, I'll actually get it as soon as it comes out.


Also, if it can play SKyrim in handheld form, it's gotta be powerful, so the range of future games drastically increases.

I heard people saying that if it's going to be a handheld too, they want 3DS games to be compatiable with it.

Nevertheless, its still not bad for a handheld. Bear in mind, this is basically a handheld. It's certainly millions of times better than the 3DS ever was.

It's not gimmicky, its experimental. It's not trying to give you a gimmick like a touch screen, it's giving you more options to play your games in the way you want to, hence the 4+ different configurations for controller use.

It's not a bad thing. It might not be all that much better than some other modern consoles, but it has potential. We can't assume anything until we know the full specs of the console, the price, the launch library, and the very details on third party support.

Vanelan : I don't think you or Julia are giving this a fair chance, you're judging by the cover without knowing the details. Wait until more information is released before you go criticizing it, please.

Well, at least now Nintendo tried something different in a good way. Gaming is like always, with buttons and joysticks, but now the console can be locked at home to play on a big screen, be ported anywhere as a handheld, use it as a smaller screen as you hold the controller... That's some good improvement to make, one console for them all.

Even if it has reduced power compared to the PS4, this thing has the advantage of being portable and playable anywhere. So yeah, even if it's 90% of the PS4's power it's an incredible machine. With the correct management it has the power to become a thing, and Nintendo still has the inertia of Pokemon Go that should technically be influenced a bit more with the theorised success of Sun and Moon.

Also, did I just see Mario running like Arale? Seriously?

EX Palen : From what I have been hearing, the success of Pokemon Go has apparently made it possible that Pokemon wants to move the series in a whole other direction with games for the Switch. Even more drastic changes than recent games to Sun/Moon.

Heard that it's so powerful they could even add voices to all characters in the main games.

Didn't have any High Hopes for the NX.

The only thing I like about it, is the fact that its a perfectly portable home console.

i knew it, the system was designed to be handled but i would never have guess it would also be console. This is modern day gameboy with console included. the wii u is officially dead right now, no one must suffer for it, i'm guessing it would do a lot more than games. something along the lines like watching videos, adding apps, and parent control settings (because nintendo is family friendly). This can be something xbox and ps4 will soon learn to fight along side with.

If i have to guess how something like apps or videos are possible to be added, well think about how your phone works. You need a SD card, power can be recharged with the (what should we called that thing) plug-in console, and wifi connection hardwire doesn't really take a lot of space considering NX (should we still called it NX?) is huge.

So ya i will buy this if nintendo did everything correct and kinda copy some of modern day phones into the NX.

mastergame : One thing I would love is if they could do USB compatibility to charge with an adapter and to transfer files. It's basically a tablet, so why not add these things too? It would help so much more, which is something like what you brought up with the SD card and phones.

This is the direction that Nintendo should've taken instead of going with the wii u when the 8th gen began. Being able to play a home console on the go is exactly where I was hoping Nintendo would go with their new console, and that's what we're getting. If this replaces both the wii u and 3ds and becomes both Nintendo's home console and handheld, and Pokemon games start getting made on the Nintendo Switch, then I have a good feeling that Nintendo will make a comeback in the console wars. Right now, it's only a matter of getting 3rd party developers to make games for the Switch, something that the Wii U didn't have other than Bayonetta 2 and Sonic games.

I don't see this as a gimmick at all, actually. If they were trying to sell it completely on the fact that it's a hybrid, then it would be a gimmick, but if they manage to deliver in the area of power and they actually manage to get some third-party support, then the rest less a gimmick and more versitility.

Spidey243 : It might seem unnecessary at first, but if you think about it, you're not locked into any one type of controls. You're not stuck with the Wiimote like the Wii and you're not stuck with the Wii U gamepad, but for those that prefer those styles of controls over a conventional controller, the option is there.


I went into that trailer skeptical. Let's all look at this objectively for a moment.... This is a really big if, but if this console manages to be everything the PS4 is, with power and third party support, plus portability and a headphone jack, I could see this being a serious competitor as long as they remove their collective heads from whatever damp, musty place they've been stuck since the SNES and advertise. Even as much as I dislike Nintendo, I kinduh want to see this work.

Nintendo has a pretty bad rep with 3rd party developers. They are not easy to work with,their systems are not ideal for more expansive games. Nintendo has been stuck in their ways for years and they are reaping a bitter harvest. Personally,I think they should take a page from Sega's playbook and abandon the hardware and just stick to making software. They would not be the juggernaut that they were,but they might survive. They have made many mistakes an each one has chipped away at Nintendo's facade. Their biggest issue is they will not admit they are messing up. They will not learn from their mistakes.

But I know,we should give them a shot. It is an interesting idea except for one glaring issue: There are many mobile games out there and they have proven to be fun and profitable. In this age of people trying to trim back,that includes what they carry on their person. Instead of worrying about their smartphones,they would have to worry about their gaming system along with their phone.

Well........I know what I'm going to buy in March of next year.

It certainly looks decent at first glance. I do hope it has good durability though. All this taking apart and putting back together makes me worry about how its pieces will hold up in the long run.
It also appears to be a lot of wireless parts so a lot of batteries or a lot of recharging or both which worries me.

On the bright side it does look like they moved away from discs and back to cartridges implying no more dead disc readers leading to an early grave. And since it lacks any bizarre gimmicks maybe that means 3rd parties will get back into the action and we can have a large selection of games,

i can understand why nintendo would be hard on smaller developers, they do not want to waste resources or ruining their image on a game. the number one thing every parent likes about nintendo is how they do not allow the most extreme violent game to be on their systems (no one wants another superman game). Just look around the game store and you'll find nothing that will cause outrage to parents.

They are not trying to be hard on them, instead as i see it, more forces on proven developers who know what they are capable of doing rather than blind indie game developers who made games from Unity or Game Maker.

Lorrick : Actually, you have a very valid point. Plastic is only so strong and detaching and reattaching parts will greatly accelerate wear.  And if this thing really is as powerful as the PS4, with a screen that big, battery life must be ridiculously short...

Would you guys be willing to buy it for the price of like an Box One or PlayStation 4? If I get the switch then the first game I am getting is either Skyrim or The Legend of Zelda. The latter may be coming with the console of course. 

I personally like the compact, yet nice and slick design of the console and think that taking it on-the-go would be neat. However, I am not paying over $500 for it (which it probably wont be) yet i'm just saying. 

The cartage format I think may actually lower the price of the console itself, as optical drive costs around $40 usually, and even more if you want blu-ray format.

The real question I have however is: Will this replace the 3ds and New 3ds? They said that it would not but they may be all like "You know what, we think the switch is a better portable console than THIS 3ds".

Also, small screen on controller, hopes for some kind of Google Cardboard/Oculus Rift kind of V.R. possibilities for future use? That would be very interesting. The controllers are small enough that all they need are some sensors and boom! Cheap HTC Vive right there!

I wonder if Pokemon GO will be possible to port to this console since some people here are theorizing that this will have features in the vein of the phone such as apps and sd capabilities (Although the Wii and the Wii U already have it) but in order for Pokemon GO to work on the go, Nintendo would either have to add data support (As in you register the Switch with your phone company such as AT&T) or make a portable wi-fi adapter (Similar to the DS one) that can be plugged into a cars USB port (If yours has one) or a phone via a USB adapter to connect to a secure wi-fi network to play the game on the go. I think Pokemon GO would be a great game for the Nintendo Switch if they choose to add in apps (E. Shop apps would remain but support from either apple ply store or google play store would be added which would give that SD card slot more use if they include it)


P.S. The wi-fi USB would work for all of the Switches internet features, not just Pokemon GO.

EDIT: Will the catridges go in the portable Switch or will you be limited to playing the game you have inserted at home?
