I looked in this forum and could not find a thread that answered this so sorry if this is already posted somewhere- if so please, copy the link and I'll check it out. I have a few recorded game plays that seem to take forever to upload- I know Davideo suggest using Freemake which I went ahead and downloaded but, correct me if I am wrong, it only seems to give me the option of cutting scenes and what I would like to do is somehow make the video file smaller without necessarily having to cut too much of it- I am thinking of just leaving the computer on while I am gone this weekend and see if the largest video will upload but, since there are a few already, I thought I'd at least ask here since you are all so knowledgeable and I haven't really bothered much with working with videos so I am not savvy in that aspect. Any suggestions of what you already do when you upload your own videos is much appreciated as I am looking to record more but, need to figure out an uploading solution if any. Thanks!!

What kind of file are you saving it as? I think saving it as an mp4 makes it a smaller file than, say saving it as a wmv file.

Spidey243 : I am saving it as a wmv file. How do you usually save yours? This one video in particular is 30 minutes long.

When using Freemake, after you're done editing your video, there should be options along the bottom to convert your video into various formats such as MP4,  .MPEG,  .MOV,  .AVI,  Apple, MP3, DVD, and so on. When you click on these, it'll bring up the option of converting your video into the selected format, and you can choose how big the file size will be once it's done converting (it can go down to like 1/15 or 1/20 of the original file size with virtually no loss of quality).

If the options do not appear, check the bottom left corner of the area where videos appear when added to Freemake for editing, and click the little box thing that says "Show all options" when highlighted. You can favorite certain formats, and that little box switches between favorites and all options (it'll be a star instead of a box when showing them all to show it can then be switched to favorites).

Also, just a heads up, when uploading to YouTube, or for most uses in general, the MPEG format is the way to go. Hope this helps with what you needed. If you're curious about anything else it can do, such as combining more than 1 video files into a single video, please let me know

Mynamescox44 :  Thank You VideoHero lol. I didn't see that but must be an issue with my monitor display size which I can change easily. Okie dokie I will try that. Thanks for the MPEG heads up I'll remember that. Yes I am curious on combining into one video! I am sure these should help get my videos uploaded.

As for combining multiple files into a single video, it's an extremely easy process.

Just use the "Add Video" function on as many different files as you want combined, and it will list them all in the editing area. You can drag and drop them to put in any order you choose, so don't worry about adding them in order if you don't want to. Once all the files are added, in the top right there will be a little sliding box that says "Join Files" right next to it.

If you click that (there will be a little green "On" to show it's being used), it will combine all the videos currently added in order, and at the top of the editing list show the new video file that would be created by combining them. You still have to edit the files individually though before they are combined.

Also, if you didn't notice already, when selecting the format for conversion, you can click on the area that shows what the new file size will be after conversion, and set it as high or low as you want, though of course it has very slight limitations (which it even lists for you in very small print just under where you input the new file size).
