It's summer! The people can go outside to go on vacations or stay in their own country if it's warmer there! What a fun time of the year... Until you hear the sounds of a mosquito approaching. Bzzz... You can, obviously, go for a hunt on them until it's 1:00 AM, like i did mostly. But that doesn't work well. But what DOES help? I've tried a lot of things my mom told me... Most of the ways to prevent them coming don't work very good. But one thing for after the mosquito bit you helps: Toothpaste. Yes. Toothpaste. Do it on the bite that itches the most to test it. The good stuff and bad stuff:

+ You have no itching bites anymore
+ The itchiness stays away
+ You have the ultimate weapon against them
+ It doesn't matter what toothpaste you use
- The hardened toothpaste isn't easy to remove.
- Whatever you do, if the toothpaste touches something, that thing of course becomes a bit dirty.

It works as i tested it on a small, weak bite. But i'm not sure if it works on really annoying bites that are red because you scratched so much.

But what kind of advice do YOU have for fighting those pesky mosquitoes? Let me know below!

I would say use Deep Woods Off or citronella plants/candles/coils.

For the bites, use Caladryl. Yes, there's an actual medicine for stuff like mosquito bites, minor cuts and skin irritation in general, which is always handy to have in cabinets together with your anti-allergies like Zylohist (specially if you're having that super itchy skin allergy that covers you with red spots or other nasty itchy stuff like that).

As for keeping mosquitos away, our house windows have screen protectors, and we also have dual doors (one wooden + one screen block per doorway). I've never seen any mosquito inside the house (or roaches and spiders), so maybe you need something like that in your house as well. Try to talk to your mom about it.

I know they make these little candle things that emit a certain aroma the mosquitoes can't stand. I really can't remember the brand name for the life of me, but they're like these tiny little discs, and you just light a couple of them around where you're at. They work so well it's truly amazing. You could always go with the larger torch versions as well if you can afford it, but the little candle ones are the best I've ever seen. Though if it's really windy out, they don't work as well since the wind always carries the scent with it.

As for the itching, I had my own personal way of dealing with them, though I would NOT recommend anyone do it. When I used to smoke cigarettes, I would just wait until I lit a new one up, and then take the cherry of it (the burning end), and press it against the bite for a second or two. I mean sure, it'd burn a small hole in your skin, but it wouldn't itch anymore either lol. I absolutely hate being itchy (unless it's from taking pain pills lol), so I was much happier burning myself over dealing with an itchy bite.

Fun fact about tooth paste: It also works on acne too. Just put a tiny dab of it over the actual zits, and let it dry over night while you're sleeping, or leave it on for a couple hours at least. It'll dry the skin out, and sometimes even to the point it'll pop the zit on it's own. If that happens, it'll even pull all the puss out and dry it all up so it's all cleaned out for you. I mean there's other ways to go about it, but this was the way I always dealt with it, and still do sometimes.

I've actually read that there are a couple of natural ways to ward off mosquitoes, but I haven't tried them. I read that setting up a decent sized oscillating fan will keep mosquitoes away. People who have pet Corvids (Crows, Ravens, Rooks, Jays etc.) do this because they are particularly susceptible to West Nile. I've also read that, instead of using chemicals like citronella or DEET, diluting a very small amount of real vanilla extract in a spray bottle of water and spritzing yourself as if you were using chemical repellent works well. There's also cloth bracelets and necklaces imbued with certain essential oils that they don't like, but some people can have allergic reactions to them.

When I get a bite, I just take a cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol and rub it a little. It doesn't take the itch away instantaneously, but it's kinduh like taking something for a headache and you just forget it's there as it goes away.

I always just force myself to endure the itchiness and not to touch it. The next day it's usually almost gone.

I've tried some other methods but none of them had a great success rate so I stopped using them.
