PacmanandMariofan : i prefer the DS version more. it encourages exploration and is a bit more challening with the added levels and other characters.

I prefer the version of Super Mario 64 DS rather than the N64 version. This is how I am with most remakes. I just prefer the graphics, multiple characters, etc. more.

Well, believe it or not, i find Super Mario 64 DS a bit... eh... fake. But hey, that's MY opinion! No need to be angry at me, i just find it a fake version. I more like the older version, because it's giving you that one feeling that you have when playing a old game you played when you were younger. I can't have that feeling, i'm born in 2000. It's made in 1996.

I love the N64 version a lot more than I do the ds version why you may ask? Because I can use the wii classic controller on the virtual console version.

Sonicolmstead : I have the Wii VC version too, and I always use that controller. You can use a Gamecube controller with that version as well (if you have a regular Wii you can, but it doesn't work with a Wii U). Also, I've seen that the Wii VC version is the fastest. It's way faster than the actual N64, and faster than an emulator.

I've never tried the DS version and to be fair, I'm a little skeptical of the handheld console (haha no idea why).

I love the 64 version, and I'm excited that it's on Vizzed.

Super Mario 64 is good, and I prefer it more than the DS version. I don't really like of how there's more challenges to the DS version, compared to the N64 version.

The DS version has the cool feature of being able to play multiple different characters, but arguably the N64 version is better to control, so I'd rather just play it as it was intended to be played.

The DS version is better in every way, but I prefer the original because the controls are better. the DS controls are just very awkward, although I admit it's technically the superior game.

pennylessz : Yeah, the original Nintendo 64 version has very smooth controls that are easy to learn. However, the DS controls are much more tedious since it's a handheld and there are small buttons. Also, the controls feel more unresponsive.

Maguc : I agree, I like that the DS version has 30 more stars and new levels and characters, but I still prefer the original because it's easier and more fun to play!

The Original N64 version for multiple reasons.

One: You have the joystick so you can actually have some control over flying.
Two:  Some levels took skill over the DS counterpart. Remember the Haunted House level where you had to triple jump to get to the bridge?
You no longer have to do that on the DS, instead there's a power up that causes mario to float like a balloon and get up there. Very similar to Super Mario world.

3. This is just my opinion, but the overall rendering imo is better on the n64.   The DS isn't as smooth it's much more pixelated and choppy.

SuperCrash64 : Good point, I like challenges like that in the original version. Actually, I never knew that was the intended way. On the balcony of Big Boo's Haunt I'd get to the top by long-jumping, turning and sliding off the slope, jumping onto the next slope, and jumpdiving into the star. It's probably a harder way but I speedrun the game so it's easy to me.
