Over Rated but Worth a Play...
Man it's been a while since I've done a review, I sure hope I'm up to scratch you guys enjoy something decent. Well here it goes...

Borderlands 2:
"Over Rated but Worth a Play"

Borderlands 2, or BL2 for short, was released late 2012 on steam. I first played this game at a friends house on his Xbox 360 and was impressed by the concept. It was the first stat based RPG in the FPS perspective I had seen, (of course there was Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but that isn't really a shooter and the way BL2 is presented is completely different). To me this sounded great. RPGs are known to have rich and interesting storylines and to mix that with the action of an FPS would be great. Instead of waiting your turn to move you could just shoot the crap out of things and the diversity of guns my friend showed me just made me really crave to get a copy of this.
It actually wasn't until last winter I got this game for steam, which brings me to writing this review.

Graphics:

The overall presentation of Borderlands 2 is kept to the same/similar formula to the first game. Everything has a bold black outline giving it a cartoony feel to it. It isn't so unreal you cant get immersed into the game but it gives the game a unique charm to it. While I say it's unique CastleVania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate used a similar art formula in some of the cut scenes, but what do you expect that series has nicked so much from other franchises.

The graphics are not the most demanding, no the most breathtaking of the time but even if it's not as complex it still has atmosphere and feeling to the player. I would prefer to have a game do something like this rather than a game looking amazing and realistic, or at the other extreme, too unrealistic that you can really feel the game. The balance between real world and video game world is displayed almost perfectly. The only thing lacking is a variety of textures, but I'll get onto variety more... Read the rest of this Review

Halo 4 Review
Halo 4 - Xbox 360

343 Industries were given the privilege to continue Bungie's hit series Halo right from where they left off of. The hype and expectations for the next edition to the saga were extremely high so there was little room for error.
And little error there was...

The game opens with an extremely well crafted cut scene. It felt like I was watching a film and at some scenes it was hard to tell whether the characters were programed or living actors. Unlike games like Sonic 06 the rest of the game looks great too. We are not just greeted by something beautiful, the visuals last and last in true cinematic fashion.

Along with the graphics the environment and world design is artistic. There is a sense of atmosphere you get while playing Halo 4. There is just the right balance between futuristic areas and natural which makes you remember that Halo takes place in the future of this universe and not in some completely new and unrecognizable universe, since there is so much relatable to Earth and our knowledge on other planets.

The visuals and world design are complemented by the audio. From the Dramatic theme to the weapon sound effects this game sounds great. Great isn't one of my best words to describe something either. While Halo 4's audio is up there with some of my other top sounding games, it certainly can match with some of the Masterpieces like Half-Life 2, Legend of Zelda: Majora's mask and even Halo Combat Evolved for the original Xbox and PC. This is only a small fraction of the reason why I didn't give it a 10 out of 10.

Most people complain that the gameplay in the Halo series is very repetitive and get generic as the series progresses. Having played through almost all of the Halo series I haven't really felt that there is any major repetivity. The concept has been the same throughout the series and there haven't been any minor evolutions in Gameplay but the game still feel fresh.... Read the rest of this Review
Castlevania II - Simon\'s Quest

Creative yet Tedious
CastleVania II: Simon's Quest

It only takes about 1 minute of gameplay for the player to realize that Simon's Quest was so much different to the original CastleVania game. Konami were one of the companies that took a risk and tried something new. Their history of games were made up with a large number of side scrolling action video games and by that time it was predictable what they were going to do next. The market was fooled, just like they were when they thought they could breeze through their other games.

Before I get started I would first like to say that in general CastleVania: Simon's Quest isn't a good game. However it isn't a bad game either. The problem is, people are enthesizing the bad points of the game. A well known example is the Angry Video Game Nerd. The list of toilet humor insults and swears targeted at this game was so overwhelming people are taking his word for it. What he and many other people are forgetting is what is actually good about this game...

Graphics - 9 / 10

The original CastleVania for the NES already had a decent amount of detail and effort put into the visuals. It wasn't the peak of the NES but it was reasonably high up their. Konami were clever enough not to just settle their. Other companies producing for the NES and SEGA Master system were really beginning to understand the capabilities of 8-bit a lot better than they were earlier on in both console's life span.

Konami caught up with a lot with the pack by making a lot of enhancements to the original sprites and tiles. The biggest thing you will notice is simons sprite. In the first CastleVania simon was a orange man. Pretty much the only colors simon was were orange and white.
With Simon's Quest we witness the slightly wider use of the color pallet. They cleverly used the white to create lighting effects on Simon's shoulder pads and knee pads. And now the sprite consists with an extra obvious color.

DOOM Just got Scary!
DOOM - Playstation X

I really can not keep count of how many ports DOOM got but the FPS phenomenon was so over praised every console wanted a part.
My last review was on DOOM for the SEGA 32x and during that I talked about the SNES port and how it was better even with the 16-bit disadvantage. This leaves us with a few ports left.
We have the Atari Jaguar and Xbox Live Arcade ports which are essentially just enhanced rips from the original PC which leaves us with The PSX and Sega Saturn ports of DOOM.
Both ports were very a like to each other but there was something just a little darker in the PSX version...

Graphics

You would expect the two ports to have enhanced the original PC engine. The graphics are far better yet it still keeps all of the textures in that same DOOM style. While it may be a little disappointing that id didn't show off the capabilities that the PSX could handle like Insomniac Games did with Spyro the Dragon, the game's nostalgia feel is far more important when porting a classic.

As I mentioned there was something darker about this port to the Saturn. What id experimented with was the lighting. In DOOM PSX, the is little sunshine and the shade is overwhelming. This reminds me of the Left 4 Dead series where one time you'll be outside and it is all bright but then when you go into a dark room all of a sudden you are facing shadows of inertia. That made Left 4 Dead scary and along with other elements it made DOOM PSX scary too!

Sound

id took a bold move by not using the original soundtrack in the PSX and Sega Saturn ports of this game. If I were a game designer I would not take a huge risk like this when porting or remaking a classic. id bravery brought yet again another fear aspect into DOOM and somehow I am thinking it worked better that way.

I have mentioned many times that the Original DOOM soundtrack was one of the best video game composition... Read the rest of this Review

Don't be fooled by the Pretty face!
Doom - 32x

We all should remember Doom. That PC game that everyone was getting hyped about over a year before release. When it hit the market that tiny little spark that made most games what they are today set the FPS genre on fire.
People were wasting their lives sat in front of a monitor shooting the crap out of Zombies and Various other horrific enemies knee deep in the dead.
While this game did cause a few controversies since it was so colorful it still made money and a ton of it, so much that other companies want to share the fame with some ports. You had the SNES which was 16-bit, the Atari Jaguar which was 64-bit but it only looked little over 32-bit and the Sega 32x which I am reviewing.
So did this game kick just as much ass as the original? Not really here is why...

Graphics

I like to start on a positive, an well it almost seems like a tradition that I review the graphics first.
The 32x port did an amazing job at the visuals. I was comparable to the original PC version which ran at almost the same rate and it was not far of the 64-bit, well 52.5-bit, Atari Jaguar. I think they focused too much on this though since parts of the game were missing.
About half of the game was gone, which is embarrassing since the SNES port only managed to lose one episode of the complete game. There were also a few key features missing as well. Some of the secrets were missing and even the pillars on the first level are gone meaning the room where you get the armor for the first time is almost empty.

You could just say that it is overwhelmed by the nice visuals but I would rather you didn't. You see this is just another example that it isn't about the graphics. Since Sega were still fighting in the bit wars I think they forgot what the point of doom was. Doom was meant to have good gameplay, the graphics didn't matter at all. Even the developer said "We focused on the gameplay rather than making it ... Read the rest of this Review
Crash Bandicoot Fusion

An obscure Crash Bandicoot game.
Crash Bandicoot Fusion - Gameboy Advance

Back when Naughty Dog lost the series the Crash Bandicoot video game franchise went almost crazy. Many games were made by various developers and publishers so it was really hard to compare the games to each as a series.
There are now many categories of Crash Bandicoot games and Fusion (Purple) falls under Spin-offs. I feel it was under shadowed by the console games and at the time they were bad so would someone be bold enough to even try a handheld game?
Here is what people missed out...

Graphics

The Gameboy advance is a 32 -bit console meaning it is more powerful than the SNES which most people are mistaken for because very little games show off the extra 16-bits. Crash Bandicoot Fusion however managed to perfect the power of the console and produced one of the best looking games on the GBA.
In the cut scenes it looked almost 64-bit though they were only still images with text at the bottom so that keeps the Frame Rate per second down. But then as we move onto the actual gameplay you will notice how well designed Crash's body is. In my opinion he and other character models with the exception of the sheep and spyro look better than Donkey Kong country on the SNES and that is embarrassingly one of the only 2 games that I think that can produce that when this console is almost twice as powerful.

Vicarious Visions did an amazing job and they really deserve the 10 out of 10.

Sound

When it comes to good Video game music I instantly think DOOM, Mega Man 2, Super CastleVania IV but then if I think hard enough I can remember how great of a sound track the original Crash Bandicoot had. I would be seeing that Vicarious Visions has a challenge but with all of the developer and company changes makes me think realize that they don't much to compete against, all of the sound tracks seem to be poor for this franchise excluding the exclusives but was... Why they never finished the Game
Alien vs Predator - Atari Lynx

With Wolfenstein and DOOM available for computers First Person perspective Shooters were growing in popularity at insane speeds also attracting attention from other companies to almost spin off the games or at least try their best to emulate the genre mechanics.
Nintendo were preparing a Port of Doom and Sega had Duke Nukem on the Genesis (Mega Drive) so with Atari still lagging behind on 8-bit their task was difficult. So difficult the game sucked and the Developers were wise enough to cancel it and make the game again on the Atari Jaguar.

Graphics

The graphics are the only thing that I can talk positively about but even they were bad.
The Atari Lynx was the most powerful 8-bit console at the time, and this game showed it off a little. I don't think this could of been played on a Sega master system or maybe even an NES but then when we look at the consoles bigger hits like Blue Lightening, Batman and Toki this game is embarrassing. The only impressive part is the artwork in the objective screens, everything else looked chewed up, smudged and basic.
The Hud is pointless other than to try and look pretty. You have a compass to the left which is almost unnecessary because it tells you nothing useful, you don't know where to go and it is very hard to remember where you have been a map would have been a lot more useful. You also get a radar which does nothing. No matter where an enemy is the radar does the same thing, even when everything is dead it does the same.
They reused the graphics so that no matter whether you are the Human or the Alien you are always fighting these marines. Even worse all of the walls look the same. Then again you can argue that this game is unfinished, we you could say that for any of my insults to the game but it is believed that this game was 70% complete and I really can not imagine a ... A Road Trip to Remember
WipEout PSX

There was a little bit of a theme of fantasy racing games in the 90's. On the 29th of September 1995 wipEout for the Playstation hit the competition globally and it was one of the first to do so on the Next Generation consoles at the time. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by Sony's rivals Nintendo and their hit Mario Kart, which was released two years after. In my opinion, WipEout was a far better game and here are my reasons why...

Gameplay

As anyone who has played this should know, WipEout is set in the future. Being set ahead of our modern society gives game developers a chance to create vehicles that can travel at insane speeds. This gave the game a unique fast gameplay unlike it's racing rivals, a little bit like how Sonic the Hedgehog was a fast paced take on the Platformer genre.
Not only do you travel at an exciting thrill of a speed but when in the first person (bonnet) view the camera tilts when you turn like a motor bike simulator and with both combined with the unique race track design you really do feel like you are on a roller coast ride.
With the intense speed if the F3600 vehicles comes some difficulty to those who are at home with most fantasy racing games or driving simulators. Braking and going around corners takes a little bit of a getting used to. I remember throughout my early ages of gaming, being around 4 or 5, I could never corner without crashing all of the time but by the time we got the PS2 and I played it on their since the console was backwards compatible I had mastered the space roads.
As I said before it is a roller coaster ride but you only get the real effect when you can with in and out of the corner effectively.
The only flaws is the depth. There isn't much of it. There are only a small amount of tracks and hover craft and completing a series doesn't take long. There are only 2 classes of racing, one for beginner(ish) and one for the more experienced player o... Read the rest of this Review

Pokemon Emerald
As we all know, Pokemon Emerald for the Gameboy Advance is the most played game on Vizzed. Due to this there are tons of reviews, I felt I need to have a go at review this game myself. After all it was the very first video game I had ever bought so I have a lot of experience with it.

Back in 2009 I bought myself a Gameboy Advance SP and a copy of Pokemon Emerald along with it. 2009 was a lot later than the game's release date and by then the Nintendo DS was out. Before owning this game my life was pretty empty video game wise. We had a PS2 but yet I never really used that because it was my dad's and at the time most of the games made little sense to me. My whole family had never owned a Nintendo console so I did not know what Mario was, nor Zelda or Pokemon. It took my friends to teach me what was what and who was who. My friend owned a copy of Pokemon emerald which he played on his DS. One time he let me have a little go and from that half an hour I loved pokemon. I was in the middle of the sea using surf and having a ton of wild pokemon battles. I did not know what I was doing but it felt good because all of the Wingulls and Tentacruels were fainting really quickly. I felt amazing! This sort of gaming was so new to me, I just had to get my hands on it... so I did! And that brings me here, reviewing Pokemon Emerald for the Gameboy Advance, I hope you enjoy it!

Pokemon Emerald

Graphics

Most of the visual content in this game was ripped straight out of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and reused. There were very few changes sprite wise, for instance the heros of the game had different colored clothes but that was about it. You could call game freak lazy but let's face it, what they did was right for them. The graphics from Ruby and Sapphire were great and got praise from many gamers and critics so not much more work was needed. This is why...

Rebooting the old LCD
Game & Watch Gallery 2

There were a series of LCD games called the Game & Watch series, made by Nintendo. We could call them their first handhelds but they were really more games than consoles. The games were simple black and white arcade games. You only needed 2 buttons to play, Ignoring the "Start Game" buttons, most of these games only required you to move your player left and right. The arcade classics were almost forgotten about with the release of the NES so the games were put together on a cartridge for the original Gameboy to remind gamers of those LCD gems. Today I am not looking at a straightforward port of the Game & Watch like the previously mentioned Game & Watch Gallery for the Gameboy but I am looking at it's sequel, Game & Watch Gallery 2 for the Gameboy Color because that game is more than just a port... It is a colored remake!

Graphics

I tried putting a lot of emphasis on the fact that this is a remake of the Game & Watch series but to be honest it does not sound like anything special. Back on the games release, remakes of games was uncommon. This was mainly because the gaming industry was still in relatively early days. I can only name a few NES remakes that were released before this title, such as the Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World which was a graphic and sound reboot of the NES mario trio and Super Mario World.
The five games featured in the gallery have been changed to some diversity to the original series. Visually the whole game collection has changed in the modern settings. For instance all of the solid black LCD characters have been replaced by those of the Mario series. Most of the new sprite look really nice and some are actually comparable to some early Gameboy Advance games. The sprites I am talking about are the ones in the actual mini games themselves. The menus in the game just look typical for the Gameboy Color but take a peek at the chef game and you ... Read the rest of this Review
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

A light fighter
Super Smash Brothers Brawl

I am not sure there are many people in world that has not experienced any of the Super Smash Bros series. Right from the release of the very first for the N64 this series has rocked the video game industry. It is hard to believe this but Super Smash Brothers Brawl was the best selling fighting game, it even got more sales in total than Super Street Fighter II! So there must be something good about this game if it is selling this many copies, so that is why I am going to give my own personal opinions on this game, to see if I feel it is worthy of these world records.

Graphics 8/10

I am quite aware that this game was released in 2008 meaning it was in the early days of the Wii so I have to cut the game some slack but there are many other games on the console that are better so why couldn't Nintendo master their own console in 2008. I am really not saying that the graphics of Super Smash Brothers Brawl are bad because they were sometimes rather stunning. The peaks of the game were the cutscenes in the Subspace Emissary but let's be honest here, cutscenes are always the graphic highlights of the game. I guess at the time they were something to show off about but only a couple of years after with the stunning Mario Galaxy 2 removed meaning to be big headed about it. I guess it was a case of getting to grips with the console, learning its thresholds and capabilities. Then again Super Mario Galaxy 2 had amazing graphics as did The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword they are just two games in the consoles hundreds so you could say Super Smash Bros Brawl was not far off of them.

Sound 10/10

Super Smash Brothers Brawl offered a ton of great music tracks. Each course contains a reasonable number of unlockable songs, usually 7 or so, sometimes more. Most of the songs are pieces from the game backgrounds, say you would have the Super Mario Bros theme on a Mario related arena or the pokemon arena stage w... Read the rest of this Review

Pac-Man (Namco) - NES

I am not sure there is anyone on Vizzed.com who does not know what Pac-Man is. The arcade classic still is very popular today even if it is a 31 one year old game. This game was ported multiple times with the same map, same characters just different consoles and in some cases graphics. Today I am going to be look at the NES port of the Namco masterpiece. I will point out now that I am comparing the game to other games on the NES so do not be surprised if some of the game ratings are lower than you expected. I hope you enjoy reading on...

Graphics 6/10
As we all should know the NES had a 8-bit processor, so graphics and more importantly file size was limited. The games were relatively simple, not quite as so as the likes of the Atari but yet the video game industry was far off HD quality graphics and gameplay. PacMan was a very simple arcade game. The sprites were single coloured apart from the fruit and the dreaded enemies of the game, the ghosts. Making a compatible port for the NES was a piece of cake, everything was put into the game without any obvious change. Unfortunately that is where I think Namco and Nintendo went wrong. The NES was far beyond the power of the original arcade machine so there was certainly room for an upgrade. Just take a look at the beauties of Super Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man 2, those games had perfected the graphics of the NES and could be mistaken for not being playable on an 8-bit console. Comparing that to the basic single colours of PacMan and we begin to feel a little disappointed that nothing was enhanced.

Sound 7/10
Again we can compare the games sound to other game on the NES but for me it is not about the quality or the music on this game. Not because this game has no music and limited sound effects but it is really how it makes you feel. Games have Iconic soundtracks or sound effects, such as the 1-up (1-man) sound effect in the Super Mario Bros series or t... Read the rest of this Review

Not the good sort of Change
The Legend of Zelda II

The original Legend of Zelda for the NES was quite revolutionary. The game was pretty simple however your mind could not be on simple mode. Zelda games were certainly not mindless games, you had to have decent puzzle solving skill to stand a chance of progressing through the games. Though Zelda 2 was very different it did not lack difficulty and puzzles. I guess I should give the developers some credit for that however I was quite disappoint on the which the game played.
The mistakes the developers made may of been triggered by the sudden craze of precision platform games. It would be a good guess to say that the developers were afraid of the Super Mario Bros series, it look as though the original Legend of Zelda game was being forgot about buy those who owned an NES.
If you have played Zelda 2, you will know that it is not exactly a platformer though it does have the odd platform element from time to time. I think the main change was the fact that most of the games perspective was 2D and Side Scrolling. This annoyed me and many other Zelda fans, this was certainly not what we were expecting and this was certainly not what we wanted.

Graphics

This is possibly the only high in the whole game. When you take a look at the work gone into this game graphic wise, it is quite acceptable. Out of all of the NES games I have played this game is near the top of the list graphics wise. Though the glory only comes in the side scrolling sections in the game. There were so many different textures, colours and detail crammed into this 8-bit cartridge that only Super Mario Bros 2 and some of the later NES Mega Man games can beat.
Unlike the original Legend of Zelda game, Link's sprite was quite detailed. This is where the side scrolling came in handy. Because Link was close up to the screen you would expect more detail than in the first Legend of Zelda where throughout the whole game he was fr... Read the rest of this Review

A Donkey Kong Twist
Hello readers I am of course MechaMento throwing you a brand new review. Today I am going to be the critic towards the arcade classic port, Donkey Kong 3. This is my second Arcade game review I have made successfully, my last one was roughly 650 words and that compared to some of my other reviews, such as my Chemical Brothers album (Exit Planet Dust) review which was above 3000 word and my 2000+ word Animal Crossing review, it was very small and appeared as effortless. So here it is, number 2, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Remember that if you want to reply you must as always have a good cause to. I like a good response, that means you need reasons to what you are saying. Saying that the review is good or bad without reasons why comes across to me you not even reading my review. I do not mind people who skim through and spot any mistakes, I do not mind a small post but it has to be of a quality. Well I am going to shut up about replys and we are going to get this review going. It is time to engage you eyes, because we are going on a journey to the land of Donkey Kong 3!

Donkey Kong 3

Graphics
As you may be aware I have not done the "why I played this" paragraph to my review. Yes some people liked it and said it added a great personal touch to it, but let me be honest here. It was not really reviewing the game at all so have decided to jump straight in there and crack right down on the graphics of Donkey Kong 3.
The NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) was Nintendo's debut to the home console and was infact one of the very first home consoles to hit the stores with some great impact. The console had an 8-bit drive which was quite advance at the time. The console was at the time comparable to most arcade games graphics wise. Some of the developers of the arcade games were generous enough to produce certain ports made specifically for the NES. Of course there were many arcade classics that made their NES appear... Animal Crossing New Leaf
Welcome to my review. I am MechaMento, as you should know, and today I am being the critic towards the game Animal Crossing New Leaf, for none other than the 3DS. I am fairly new to the game being mine since I have only owned the game for a few days but I have been into the series so I do know what to expect from the latest edition of the game, not forgetting I have played many hours of it alone and with friends.
I hope you enjoy reading my review. Remember if you want to reply to this thread I actually want a reply with a point. If I see any posts that just say that my review is really good without actually telling me what was good or bad about it, I will question you and most likely dislike you post. I have had good replies to my review before and I do appreciate them. My gift is 1000 viz but that will only go to the most helpful reply to this review.

Animal Crossing - New Leaf (3DS)

Why I Played This

I was not very excited at all when I heard this game was going to be released soon. I had played both Animal Crossing for the Wii and for the DS. Unfortunately they were my brother's games so I could only play them from time to time. When I did play them my experiences were not all that good at all. I had no idea what I was doing and my brother is selfish so he wanted the games back as soon as possible. This meant that I had not much time to get to grips with the game.
My brother got Animal Crossing New Leaf in the summer holidays and this was what was making his days fun. There was hardly anything he would do other than play this game. I still at the time thought that Animal Crossing was a load of crap, but also at the time I still had not played it. I think what put me of the game was the fact that my brother always played with the sound on so all I could hear was the voices of the NPCs which sound like people talking underwater in panic, very annoying.
It then came to me. If my brother was addicted ... Read the rest of this Review

I have already reviewed Super Mario World so you may think that doing a sequel (in this case a prequel) will not be that much different. The strange thing is, is that Super Mario World 2 is very diverse and actually a Mario game like none other. Remember to give me your opinions on my review but make sure it is constructive or else I will question you! I hope you enjoy it just as much as I have enjoyed making it. Have fun!

Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island

Graphics
Super Mario World 2 has a very unique graphics style and it is nothing like any other game. It looks as though it was drawn all in crayon and is very cartoony, maybe to give, what I call, the infant effect because it is based on Mario's beginning of life at the age of just a baby! Though it is all very attractive and what we want from a game it may be just an excuse to make the games size smaller by using a cartoon scheme. Most people will not be fussed but when we look at games like Donkey Kong Country, we may begin to think that they could of done a lot better at their job. Never the less I like it even if it is not at the consoles peak. It really sets the scene and suits this game exceptionally well, however is looks like I could almost make it on MS Paint and it could of needed a little more work and time put into its production, so that is the exact reason why I gave it a 9 out of 10.

Music
Nintendo did a great job at composing some fantastic tracks. All of the Mario games have got me humming the level tunes especially Super Mario World 1. Super Mario World 2 is certainly no exception to this list and the music is great! I really love the over world soundtrack, it is very catchy and does its job by getting you into the correct mood to play a Mario platformer. Nintendo made great use of the consoles sound system, I play the games with headphone... Read the rest of this Review
Pocket Monsters - Green Version

Where it all Started
Hello readers of the hopefully many. As you may know I am MechaMento and today I shall be looking at the very beginning of what many of us vizzed users call special. I am not the biggest Pokemon fan so please do not be offended if I am a little harsh against the mother of Pokemon. A review is meant to be biased and from natural opinion so I guess you should keep that in mind. Finally this is also my first, what I call negative, review. This means I need your opinion to improve and by that I mean you actually read this rather than just saying this review is good without giving any examples. I will challenge you because I want to see some good criticism and hopefully praise. I hope you enjoy reading my review.

Pokemon Green

Even some of the biggest pokemon fans may not even know about this game, but the fact that there was a game called Pokemon Leaf Green for the Game Boy Advance kind of gave us a clue. At first you may of thought that Nintendo were a little mad by making a remake of a game that never existed. This was because they never released Pokemon Green in Europe or America or anywhere else in the world except Amazon, but let's be honest here, Amazon gets everything... and then sells it! Instead we had to sit and play Pokemon Blue instead, which was ok since it was pretty much the same game as was Pokemon Red.
There were a few changes made such as the Music and sprites but the region was the same, the pokemon were the same and trainers. The biggest change that we all should know about is the fact that the original Lavender Town theme cause violent headaches to children aged 7-12 and in worst cases killing them. If we actually use our minds and begin to search on google you can see that none of this happened! It is just a creepypasta and nothing more. Creepypastas are never true, they are just stories to make the reader feel uncomfortable. None of this actually happened, so kids you can calm down and maybe you can sleep tonight :P . <... Halo 3

The Master Piece with Master Chief
Hello readers of the many! I am MechaMento, for those of you who do not know me that well, and I am glad to be reviewing one of the best, if not the best First Person Shooters of this generation console. From this point on the review will get into action, so stop playing Pokemon, turn off your music and engage into my review because we are going on a journey that stretches into the world of Halo 3.

Why I Played This

When I first got the Xbox 360 I was expecting to be allowed to all of a sudden be able to play pegi 16+ rated game (M+ I think). Well my dad was not happy about that so he refused to let me play any. It took me about a year to change his opinion about 16+ rated games and that change of opinion came with a lot of effort. Most days of the week I would keep begging my dad to just buy the game, I just wanted to see what it was like so I was not wasting my time badgering him to play it if it was not any good. He did eventually buy the game but I was not allowed to play it straight away, he played through the first two levels just to see how gory the game actually is, and to my luck he approved of it, because let's be honest here, Halo 3 is certainly not a gory game. After I played it and got passed a few chapters he had a re-think since my playing style was twice as violent. Eventually he just gave in to letting me play any 16+ game when I wanted to but that was about half a year after he had his re-think. That brings us up to speed for where I am now, reviewing the game.

Graphics

More first person shooters are rushed like the whole call of duty series and numerous others but Bungie were keen to get the most out of their game. To achieve that, Bungie had to create a whole new graphics engine since their previous game Halo 2 was on the original Xbox. Going through to make a new style of graphics for the next Halo in the series was a big risk, and I guess that risk was taken to the challenge and beaten. Halo 3 provi... Read the rest of this Review
Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat!
Hello readers of the many! I am MechaMento, incase you did not know, and today I will be giving my opinions and criticism towards the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) port of Mortal Kombat II. I hope you enjoy reading this and be sure to leave the odd reply to tell me what went well what did not. After this paragraph ends the real review starts. So Stop playing Pokemon, Turn off your music and engage your eyes as we step into the wonderful world of Mortal Kombat II.

Why I Played This Game

I was browsing through youtube, watching this channel that works for Machinima called Top Ten for the win. As you may suspect they made a lot of top tens, by a lot I mean every single video of theirs is a top ten! As a stereotypical young lad at the age of 10 I was into blood, violence and various other gorey things. So when I saw a video on that channel called Top Ten Goriest Video Games of all Time, I clicked on it with little thought. Most of the games that came up, like gears of war and ninja gaiden, I was not very interested in so it took me up to number two in the list which was Mortal Kombat to find a game I would want to play. After going on another youtube spree watching all of the Mortal Kombat 9 fatalities (and throwing up after watching every single one) I tried to find out if there was a site where I could play some of the older games on. You may be thinking I just went a long and found vizzed, bla bla bla, but no. I never found a secure site to play one on so I just brought Mortal Kombat the Arcade Collect over Xbox Live Arcade and absolutely loved it! About two or three years after buying it on the Xbox I came across Vizzed, from that I found you could play all of the retro classics and that brought me here!

Graphics

The Mortal Kombat developers took a different approach to their character designs to most other mainstream companies. The characters can be described as hyper-realistic since they look like humans, but they are in t... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic CD

The Blue CD
Welcome readers, I am MechaMento with another brand new review on a not so brand new game. Today I will be the critic towards the game Sonic CD for no other than the Sega CD. Be sure to read the whole review and after you can give me praise, or criticism depending on how well you think I did.

Sonic CD

Why I Played This

To be honest I had never heard of the Sega CD, only the Mega Drive (Genesis) and Game Gear which were both passed down to me from my parents. I have been a rather big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, though not because I was good at it because I was certainly not! I hated all of the modern Sonic games, I hated his appearance character and the fact that the games was a 3D platformers. I had to search for remakes of the classic 2D platformers on the Xbox Live Arcade and to my surprise there was a game I was yet to of heard of that being, Sonic CD. Before I knew of Vizzed I just went and got the trial since I did not want to pay for a game I had no idea about. But when I did find vizzed I went along to purchase the game, without question.

Graphics

During my time on Vizzed, I have also played other Sega CD titles. There are many great entries to the system with fantastic graphics and Sonic CD is not excluded from the list. Sega put a lot of effort into improving the graphics engine from the original Sonic the Hedgehog and the final product was more than expected. Most of the sprites were kept the same style design as the original but smoothed out a little more so it was almost like a HD version of the original. I am very pleased they kept the style of sprites similar to the original, it kept the same loving feel that all Sonic fans loved in the first Sonic title and encouraged them to keep buying Sega products.
I may of gave this game a lot of praise for its graphics but you may notice I rated the Graphics 8 rather than 9 or 10. There is a good reason to it as well, and we have to compare it to ... Read the rest of this Review
Forza Motorsport 4
09-27-13 11:42 AM
Detail is Everything
Hello I am MechaMento and I am focusing on the racing simulation masterpiece Forza Motorsport 4. When I was building up my videogame collection on the Video Game Room I was going through floods of memories of games I love. When I set up my 3DS to take a picture of my Forza Motorsport 4 case it reminded me the days where I would be rather addicted. So that brings me here where I can share my experiences and opinions with you with one and one topic only. Forza Motorsport 4.

Why I Played This

When I first got my Xbox 360, which was only 2 or 3 years ago, it came with a bundle including the previous title Forza Motorsport 3. I loved that game to bits, I had an unstoppable addiction! The game may be going around a race track a few times and then doing it again but on a different circuit, but there was something special about this as is Forza Motorsport 4. So after a year of owning the game, and playing it everyday, the European release of Forza Motorsport 4 was rapidly approaching so that game was preserved for the top of my birthday wishlist! From that I have loved it since the first day I brought it and I still play it now, so from here onwards this is where the real reviewing begins!

Graphics

Turn 10 are one of those companies that will not put up with a single pixel out of place. The amount of hours, detail and effort that was put in to developing every single car is astonishing. The Auto-Vista mode is described as HHD visual quality. For those of you who have not played Forza Motorsport 4, Auto-Vista mode is almost like a car gallery. You select one of the 25 cars (not including DLC and Easter Eggs) and look around it any way you like. You can open all of the bonnets, go inside the car and listen to interesting facts about the car voiced by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson. The Auto-Vista may have boosted graphics and looks a lot slicker than any other game mode yet that does not stop the actual racing from looking beautiful.... Read the rest of this Review
Space Invaders - Virtual Collection

A Classic in 3D
Space Invaders (Virtual Boy)

Now vizzed is great website known for it's huge spread of retro games. Not long ago 3 very rare consoles were added the Retro Game Room (RGR), one of them being the long lost Virtual Boy. Nintendo throughout the years have been very ambitious, for instance they were the first company to use a motion sensor controller (wii). In 1995 they had created the Virtual Boy, the console would play games in 3D though glasses were required. Eventually the console disappeared from gaming history to a point that not many people had forgotten it or never knew.
Since the console made it's debut vizzed I had played most of the games, some of them were not so good like Virtual Fishing and others were great like Wario Land and Super Mario Tennis. However there is one game that dominates the rest, puts nintendo to shame. That title Being Space Invaders.

3D Mode (3D Remake)

The Game select screen consists of 3 game modes, Classic 2D mode, 3D mode and Challenge mode. Selecting 3D mode will take you to into a remade version of Space Invaders.
The first thing you will notice is the fact that game is not in it's classic camera angle. 3D mode gives you a visual almost as if you were looking up at the turret you play as. A blocks are smooth and 3D, you can easily imagine how great it would appear in actual 3D.
To your benefit the battle ground is much wider than the original, so large you have an extra shield to hide behind. As great as it sounds Nintendo are not going to make life that easy for you. A wider course means there is more space for more invaders!!

Difficulty wise, the game mode is generally easy. Though small mistakes like hitting your own shield can ruin your chances of success. The levels are most probably endless, every time the invaders get faster. Having only reached level 2, this game mode is not easy.
I also noticed the fire rate being very slow and that made the game hard since y... Read the rest of this Review
Legend of Zelda, The - Majora's Mask

Just You, The Moon and The Mask
BEFORE YOU READ I AM AWARE REDHOTTODAY HAS JUST REVIEW THIS GAME
He PMed me to say he had made one whilst I was typing up mine!!

Welcome my fellow readers of vizzed. This my second review and I have gone on to share my opinion of the Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask. Remember to give me feed back and suggestions on what to do next (after I review Mega Man 4).

The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask

Why I played this

I had played a few Zelda titles before, like Ocarina of time and the Phantom Hourglass, but had never hear of this one. Mainly because I did not own a N64 and there is no remake of it. At the time I was into reading Creepypasta's related to gaming and wanted to see if there were any decent Zelda pastas. I quite quickly came across the CreepyPasta BEN, and luckily for me it was mainly video. I watched through them and did not notice what game it was since the design I did not recognise. I did some research about the pasta and found it was based on the Majora's Mask. I looked on the Wii e-shop if there was a download able version of the classic and that is where it brought me now. So believe it or not it was the BEN creepypasta that got me into this game.

Story

The storyline producers must of been made up of a bunch of Shakespeare's. I thoroughly enjoyed playing in Link's role in this very well written story.
I think the fact that you have to keep going back and forth through time in this space of 3 days really puts a twist on this tale. At one stage near the beginning of the game you have to wait the whole three days as a Deku Scrub until the festival which is inconveniently 6 minutes before the world ends and most people have evacuated. Once the festival door opens you take back the Ocarina of Time and return to the very first day, and start the 3 days again but with a new adventure as human Link.
I have not seen a Zelda title if not any game with a better stor... Read the rest of this Review
Super Mario World

Changed my View on Platformers
Hello readers of the many (if many o_o) I am MechaMento bringing you a review on Super Mario World for the SNES. This is my first review so be sure to give me thoughts/criticism on my review.

Super Mario World (SNES)

Why I Played This

As much as I like this game the only other platformers I have enjoyed was the 2D Sonic the Hedgehog series. I had played the NES Super Mario titles but never really enjoyed them (Mainly because I was terrible).

I was browsing around on the Vizzed Retro Game Room for just any game since I finished Doom (snes). I had made a thread asking for suggestions for a game to play, though part of my requests said I did not want to play Super Mario Bros.
Boundaries were pushed and broken since I kept being told to play Super Mario.

Eventually I gave in and started to look for a good Super Mario game that I had barely or never played. I shall thank popularity for this one since this game had made it's way to the front page of the Vizzed Retro Game Room search. The Game was only a few clicks away...

Pros (the good bits)

I now know the game well since I have finished it (hooray!!). It has more of a pleasing feel to it which I had not experienced while playing any of the previous mario titles. The levels are mainly smooth to play through. It kept me entertained since I wasn't dying all the time even if I did I had a X5 lives which come in handy. In the other Super Mario titles I had found it got too hard too quickly (then again you are reading from one of the worlds worst platformer player). Don't get me wrong the game does get tough, especially cheese bridge. I found my keyboard was damaged after FINALLY finish that. I never have eaten cheese since. >:(

When Yoshi wasn't running away from me I enjoyed his company, great feature to add on to this game. I loved the fact that you could just eat all the enemies up and spit out fire ball which contained the remain... Read the rest of this Review

Doom

Doom Walkthrough - Episode 1 Level 1
Doom (Snes) Walkthrough - Episode 1 Level 1

Starting the Game (choosing the right options)

After you boot up the game, press start and select your difficulty. I suggest selecting Ultra Violent or Nightmare since you can access all 3 episodes. After that you get a choice of episode, select the first one "Knee-Deep in the Dead" since this walkthrough I will be covering that episode.

Level 1 Episode 1

The first thing you want to do is get some armour as you may notice your character has none ( 0% ). If you go on from spawn and take a left turn into a room you will encounter 3 Zombie guards holding shot guns (unless you are in a difficulty lower than Ultra Violent in which case it will be empty), defeat them (I suggest taking their shot guns) and go up the stairs in the center of the room. As you can see at the top of the stairs lies a green chest plate, which when walked over will take you armor to 100%.

Exit the room and take a left from where you were facing. This will take you through a corridor which will end with a door. Open it defeat all of the zombies and take a right turn towards the next room. When entering I suggest exterminating the monsters that fire out fire balls, the monsters are very annoying and deal a lot of damage. Once the area is clear of enemies follow the bridge across avoiding the acid waste. Before entering the next room, not far from the door leading there holds a secret path way. To find this, face the door take a few steps back and turn right. Then press the button which opens doors and the secret will be revealed.

Follow the secret path to find another door, open it and you should find yourself in a desert looking environment. In the middle of the lake of acid waste lies a blue chest plate. Unlike the green chest plate, the blue one will put your armo... Read the rest of this Guide
