SimCity

Sim City Review
The Sim City series is a well-known series, known for its unique style of gameplay which allows you to build and manage your own city, while combating problems such as pollution, waste management, nuclear meltdowns, debt and even Mother Nature itself. The series has its origins back in '85, when it was known as Micropolis. The first version was released on the Commodore 64. The gameplay of this game was alien to the gaming world of the 1980's; it could be neither lost nor won. The game was the first of its kind-and proved popular enough to spawn numerous sequels. The review below may partly explain why.

Firstly, the graphics. The graphics for this game are both disappointing and impressing. The main zones all take different appearances as they develop(residential areas can become schools and hospitals, thus changing the design)so that it never really sticks to the same design, constantly changing as it develops and runs down over a period of time. Some of the other buildings, however, just stick to the same design all throughout the game, and some of these designs are just bland, or plain terrible to look at, such as the Sea Port. Once the city becomes a metropolis, it will probably just look like an array of scrambled pixels which are meant to look like houses, but look more like an endless pattern. An area that the game has succeeded in is the color, which looks vibrant and fresh. The parks in Summer appear to be full of life, and the seasons are easily distinguished from one another. The flashing PD or FD symbols on top of the PD/FD Headquarters are nice to look at. Tornadoes change color when passing over water or land, as well. Overall, I'd give the graphics a 7.

Sound is next up. Again, I am simultaneously disappointed and impressed by the sounds of this game. The village and town themes are very dull and boring to listen to. I know that the village theme is meant to sound humble and peaceful-with it being a village and all-but I think it is ... Read the rest of this Review

Pokemon Red Review
Red! One of my very few games which I have completed 100%. I love this game, but unlike my other reviews, I am just gonna head straight to the review...

Okay, Graphics. Very basic and simple, but pleasing nonetheless. Although the sprites could have been designed nicer, the general graphics were nice all round. The game is mainly in black and white, but if you go in Lavender Town, it turns purple, or in Viridian city, it turns green...apparently. I'm colourblind so I don't have a clue. But anyway, I love the graphics in this game. I'm giving it a 9.

Sounds-I love the sounds in this game! Every piece of music is great, from the happy-go-lucky tune of Route 1 to the creepy, infamous melody of Lavender Town. Indigo Plateau had a great atmosphere to it, it made you feel like you had a champion to beat. S.S Anne had an almost rustic feel to its theme, and the Champion battle theme is so epic-a word I don't use much...I'm giving sounds a 9-I felt like the pokemon sounded a lot like machines, I mean you don't walk through a field and her the DARuuNT a Rattata makes, right?

Addictiveness-When you are truly trying to catch 'em all, you will become addicted to it. I was addicted because I was trying to catch 'em all, and I eventually succeeded. With the help of an old friend called Mr.No. But really, the amount of training you need to do also contributes to this factor. I'll give it a 10.

Story-The story is basically this. You are a 10 year old boy who dreams of becoming the very best Pokemon trainer ever, overcoming challenges and dangerous obstacles, and potentially risking your life. And your mother lets you do it. You also can't talk, apparently. And there is a mad old man in the town who frets over you walking in the grass but is find with you taking down an entire criminal organisation which kills if it needs to. I'll give it a 6.

Depth-If you are aiming to collect as much as possible and train em all up, then yes, this game ... Read the rest of this Review
Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo Kazooie Review
Banjo Kazooie-one of 3 games I owned on the N64. I didn't like this game very much as a kid, mainly because of its far-fetched atmosphere, and I could bearly  play it for two hours and then, I would just become too tired of the game and shut it down. But now I understand that it was made by Rareware(which was bought by Xbox a few years ago) who had also made the Donkey Kong series...Well lets get started.

Graphics-The graphics were okay for its time, a lot like super Mario 64 now that I think about it. The opening cut scene is one that I shall probably never forget, what with Mumbo playing the Saxophone and Xylophone which were finely detailed in my opinion. The worlds were vibrant and emitted a happy feel. Well, most did, not MMM of course... or RBB...well anyway, comparing it to the other games on the system, I'm going to give it a 10.

Sound-If someone told me the best thing about the game was sound I would hastily agree with them. That little piece of music at the start when the dragonfly is flying round is one you'll come back to over and over again. The theme of Gruntilda's Lair really catches the gloomy feel, and the way it ascends at the start reminds me of Banjo ascending the tower itself, to rescue his sister. Every single one of the worlds themes are catchy and they make you think of the worlds theme. As soon as you enter TTC and you hear its theme, you just know what it the world is going to be based on, same applies to FP, GV, and MMM. The music really did overcome any other video games music, and it set a bar while at it. I'm giving it a 10.

Addictiveness-Now lets say you were playing it for the first time, hadn't discovered any secrets, don't know where anything is, don't know what you'll see at the top of the treacherous tower. You'd naturally want to find everything in the game, which is quite a challenge, and get up there and finish the game. You would probably want to do it before anyone else, and become addicted, lov... Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

Minecraft Xbox Review
Minecraft, yet another game that I like. Why is that? Well, it has no guidelines, no rules, and no commander or mole wearing an army jacket yelling orders at you. Anything is possible in this game(except for creating circles, because they're impossibru). But what makes Minecraft such a loved game by the public? Lets find out...

Okay, Graphics-10. A bunch of blocks? No circles, no rectangles, no triangles? Rubbish! ...That is what I used to think, but it actually works really well and makes the game simpler. Grass looks like grass, stone looks like stone, and lava looks like...uh, pizza. The blocks make the game much simpler, and they are all designed to look like their real life counterparts. The graphics are basically that, and while they are no Crysis 3, they are new and fresh(before they were being used in games like Castleminer Z, Total Miner Forge etc.).

Sounds-10. Well, the cow sounds like a cow, the sheep sounds like a sheep, the chicken sounds like a chicken and zombie sounds like a zombie. No problem, they all sound natural, and I can find no disadvantage to the sound. You can hear the water flowing in caves sometimes, and the lava beneath you. Another thing you can hear, mainly at night, is SSSSSSSS and then you're most likely dead.

Addictiveness-10. You saw this coming-once you start, there's no stopping until it's all done! And when it''s done, you must build MORE. If you start building a town on creative, it's boring, and then you build one thing, you must build another, build the redstone contraptions and Survival is even more addicting, for me.

Story-0. Yep. Move along. No story, just building.

Depth-9. The world on PC is near enough endless, so that would get a 10, but on Xbox, it is different. It eventually ends, and you realize that your entire world is surrounded by water, once you get to Lands End. The cave systems, however, are near enough impossible to explore fully, and many things ar... Read the rest of this Review

Super Metroid Review
Super Metroid. This, without a doubt, is one of the best SNES games ever, along with Super Mario All Stars. I'm that sort of person who doesn't like Star Wars or Star Trek, or any Sci-Fi related stuff. But this game pretty much changed my opinon of the genre. I mean, which Nintendo fan hasn't played Super Metroid? It's a game which will probably never be forgotten by those who play it. So, let's get started.

Firstly, Graphics-10. This game had-and still has-pretty amazing graphics for its time, which is 1994. The movements of Samus were well executed, and it looked like something you might see in a 2010 game or something. The common enemies like the Space Pirate and the side hopping things are nice to look at in my opinion, unlike the Goomba of Mario, or the Ugger of Banjo-Tooie. The bosses all have a nice design, especially Ridley-looking at him and hearing his screech for the first time together can scare pretty much any unfortunate kid who didn't know it was coming. And also, I have just got to mention the second form of the final boss-which I shall not mention...find out what what the mysterious form is by yourself.

Secondly, Sound, which I am (surprisingly) going to give a 10. The sounds made by all the different enemies are unique, and make it sound quite realistic. Also, I couldn't possibly forget to mention the soundtrack. The soundtrack, without a shadow of a doubt, is the best thing this game has to offer. It ranges from the funky feel of Brinstar to the intimidating theme of Norfair, and from the heroic melody of Crateria to the hopeless despair of Maridia. This games soundtrack can make you feel any emotion-happy, sad, heroic, despair, anger, and it can even give you a feeling of being lost at times. It really makes you feel that your adventure means something. And the boss themes are great; especially the one in Maridia who I shall not name.

Addictiveness next-another 10! I am just so engrossed in thi... Read the rest of this Review

Minecraft Survival-First Nights
If you are struggling to survive in minecraft, just follow this guide. It will help quite a lot in the first few days.

Day 1As soon as you spawn, cut down 4 logs off the trees, and turn them all into planks. This will give you 16 planks-use 4 of these to make a crafting table, 4 to make 8 sticks, and then make a wooden pickaxe, found in the tools section of the crafting table. It will require 2 sticks and 3 wooden planks. This will leave you with 6 sticks and 5 wooden planks; do NOT use them yet. Mine up 13 cobblestone, and use the crafting table again to make a furnace, which requires 8 cobblestone, a stone axe, which requires 3 cobblestone and 2 sticks, and a stone sword, which requires 2 cobblestone and 1 stick, leaving you with 5 planks, 3 sticks and 1 cobblestone. These will turn out useful eventually. With the axe, chop down 12 logs and convert 10 of them into planks, leaving you with 40 planks. Do NOT use the 5 planks, they are essential to your survival. With the 40 planks, make a small temporary hut, close to the spawn and preferably near a water source. Now, place the furnace inside the hut, along with the crafting table, and put a door in the wall. Place 2 logs in the top slot of the furnace, and 5 wooden planks in the bottom slot. Go out with your sword(if it is still day, if it is night stay inside) and try to find sheep to kill for wool. If you find 3 wool, chop down 4 more logs and change them into wooden planks. Get back to the house, make a bed(which requires 3 wool and 3 wooden planks) and take the charcoal out of the furnace. It should be nearing night time now, so stay inside. Make a torch from one charcoal and the one of the sticks from earlier. Light up the hut, and go to sleep if it is night time. By the end of this day you should have: 2 sticks, 1 cobblestone, 1 charcoal, 13 wood planks, Stone Axe, Stone Sword, Wooden Pickaxe in your hotbar.Day 2Upon waking up, your hunger meter may have gone down. Go outside and look for food with t... Read the rest of this Guide
