Sonic the hedgehog 2 review SacredShadow
This game is awesome and it was released for the Sega genesis in 1992. It was developed and published by Sega. The 2 protagonists in the game are Sonic the hedgehog and Tails prower. Dr Robotnik wants to take over the world with his robotic animals as he searches for the 7 chaos emeralds and you make your way through a series of levels to stop him. So know that you have a general idea of the game, let's get on to the actual review shall we? Okay, as far as graphics go for this game, I think they are pretty standard for sonic games, they are clear and there are a few minor improvements in the graphics area from the last sonic game. They are still pretty good graphics in my opinion, you can clearly make things out and it looks pretty good. There is definitely effort put into the graphics,so you can at least see that Sega did try and put forth effort into this game. I like the scenery for each of the levels in the game, like the chemical plant zone for example looks like a chemical plant, there are tubes and chemicals that fly around so it actually fits in with the title of the stage. So there is definitely some improvements from the last sonic game, so i will rate them an 8.5 out of 10, they are pretty good and they look very nice and appealing.
Now I think the sound of this game is one of its best features, it is like Pokemon, the music is just classic and memorable and it is just something you don't forget. This game has that in my opinion, the music for each of the levels is classic, and having catchy tunes like that for this game is one of the many reasons why it is so popular and re-playable. I really enjoy all of the sound tracks for each of the levels, I like the music for the hilltop zone as well as the cool music from the casino night zone stage. There are just some sounds and music from games that you just don't forget and I think that this game definitely has that. It is just an awesome classic game with unforgettable music that you can enjoy each and every time you play it. The sound effects of the game are pretty realistic, like in the aquatic ruins zone when you crush one of the pillars, it sounds realistic and when sonic coils into a ball to spin, it sounds realistic as well, so for that, I gave the game a perfect 10 out of 10 for the sound. Great music for each stage and realistic sound effects combine for a great game.
All sonic games are highly addicting in my opinion. Pardon me but I am going to use Pokemon games as an example again, they are that kind of addicting, they are just re playable and it never gets old. I think this sonic game in particular is even more addicting because it is multiplayer and you can enjoy all of the fun in this game with a friend and you can help progress through the levels of the game by playing as tails and you can help destroy enemies. Plus, you can also play in vs mode where 2 players can compete against each other to race to the finish line as either sonic or tails. Plus you can enjoy the fun of being super sonic in this game, it wasn't a feature in previous sonic games and I think it is awesome and it makes it really worth your time to collect the 7 chaos emeralds, so that is why I gave this game a 10 out of 10 for addictiveness, with all of the modes and double stages along with being able to enjoy multiplayer gameplay, I think it truly deserves it and that is why it is so enjoyable and re playable.
I think the story is also a very key feature in this game and it is also very important as well. Your job is to collect the 7 chaos emeralds to put an end to Dr Robotnik's evil ingenious plans of world domination. You also have Tails or Miles Prower to come along with you on your journey to help you defeat Dr Robotnik. You travel through 11 different amazing zones each of which has 2 stages, with the exception of a few. This game has an excellent story and i think perhaps some of the best in video game history. So I scored this game's story a 10 out of 10 because of all of the excitement and enjoyment you get out of going through sonic and his adventures, so that is why I gave is a perfect score on the storyline, it is very well done in my opinion.
If there is one thing that this game offers, it is depth, there are lots of levels and each of which has 2 stages, which is one more than in the original sonic game. So there is definitely a lot to do in this game depth wise. There are 20 total levels in the game for you to enjoy, plus you can play in multiplayer or play against a friend in vs mode and race to the finish line. And with the addition of the new super sonic mode, I think it makes it completely worth your time in collecting the 7 chaos emeralds, it make it so much more fun. There are a lot of cheats to select the stage of your choice to start at, you have to go to options and play a list of certain sound tracks and you hear a chime and then you can pick the stage, you can find out more about that and all of the other cheats and codes listed under the game screen as it goes into more detail. So overall, I think this game is definitely lengthy and it is a great way to pass the time, I highly recommend playing it either on your own or with a friend for even more fun. This is truly a great game and you will not be disappointed when you play it. So I gave it a 9 out of 10 with all of the many awesome levels in the game that you can enjoy and also with the addition of the super sonic form really makes the game that much more fun and totally worth playing.
Honestly, I don't think the game is ridiculously difficult, there are only a few basic controls, you move and run or change direction with the arrows and you use a,s and d to jump in that direction, you can spin into a ball and dash by holding on to that button as well as the down arrow key. So it really isn't that hard, in fact I think it is a lot easier than the last sonic game, because you are not alone and tails is there to help you, when I first played and I got stuck every now and then, tails would sort of help me out and give me some sort of clue with what I was supposed to do next, so really it is a lot easier now that you have him there by your side to accompany you and help you through the tough parts of the game. The difficulty isn't that bad, all of the levels are fairly easy and there are some parts that are challenging every now and then, but that is normal right and plus that is what makes the game fun to play. So the difficulty is simple and not unbearable, but just enough to make the game fun. Plus if you have played sonic games before, you know what to expect and it will only be that much easier for you. So in my opinion it isn't that difficult, just a little challenging every now and then, but with tails to help guide you through the game, I think you will be just fine, so I gave the overall difficulty of the game a 6 out of 10.
This game is great and I recommend playing it, plain and simple. I think it is definitely worth it, with all of the amazing stages and all of the great levels I think it makes the game that much more fun and exciting to play as you journey through on your mission to destroy Dr. Robotnik's evil plans of domination. With multiplayer and vs mode, now you can enjoy the fun with a friend and it becomes even more fun. So with all of that I think that makes for an awesome game, this game is an awesome classic and one of the best sonic games to play in my opinion. I would definitely recommend playing it, especially for sonic fans out there, this game is for you! So it is a great game to play, I enjoyed every bit of it and I really think it will be worth your time playing it!
So what did you think, please leave your comments, constructive criticism or advice and suggestions below! Thanks for reading my review!

“Robotnik has suffered his first defeat, is this truly the end to his terror?” sonicthehedgeho..
You’ve defeated the vile Doctor Robotnik who had once terrorized the land South Island and it seems that peace has returned for the time. You now return to the another peaceful land known as Emerald Island as your animal friends’ watch you perform all kinds of tricks, at that same time your new friend Miles Prower whom is most known by his nickname “Tails” because of his two tails that he has which he can use to fly in the air for a short amount of time, decides to try out the moves that you have been showing such as Sonic’s Spin Dash which is a new move to this game. This is funny because in the manual of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Gen) it states when Tails dashes off in his own unique spin dash
that the manual considers him to be a show-off. However after that peaceful time Sonic shows up on Emerald Hill Island to see that none of his friends are there and that they’ve all been
replaced by new badnicks/Robot enemies, He knew immediately at that moment that this was the work of the vile Doctor Robotnik in which this time Robotnik wants to achieve total world domination and the only way he can do that is if he collects the 7 Chaos Emeralds. Looks like it’s time to put our slick kicks on again and prepare for another adventure with our
new sidekick Tails, will Robotnik achieve his goal? Is the fate of Emerald Island doomed? Are the Chaos Emeralds going to fall in the hands of evil or the path of justice? The only way to find out is if we kick this review off!
Graphics: 8.5 out of 10
The graphics for this game have only really improved slightly from its predecessor Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen) so in my point of view I can’t give the graphics a much higher score then I did with my last Sonic Review. Even with that lack of improvement though, the graphics are still very appealing to look at and you can see that Sega still put effort into making the enemies, backgrounds, and bosses look very detailed. Some good examples on how much effort has been put into each of the different levels/areas are: Aquatic Ruin Zone, Metropolis
Zone, and Chemical Plant Zone with all of them having distinctive traits to fit their level name. With Aquatic Ruin Zone having an Aztec type looking scenery with traps that will shoot arrows at you as well as having this level being a water level, NOW DO NOT WORRY it’s not an annoying and troublesome level like Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1 and instead it’s actually a level that I really enjoy in this game. Chemical Plant Zone scenery fits its name as it has toxic chemicals that will pop out of certain pipes that harm you if you touch them as well as
having the water look polluted probably with all the toxin flowing throughout the level. Finally Metropolis Zone has a mechanical type scenery having corkscrews where you have to run to the right in order to move up and vice versa to move downward as well as conveyor belts that spin you around in order to reach higher ground or lower ground. Like I said in the beginning though the graphics haven’t improved that much from the first game in the series so I’m going to only give the graphics a 8.5 out of 10.
Sound: 10 out of 10
A ton of games during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s didn’t have as great of graphics compared to games that came in the following years however; the music always found a way to impress us gamers and it made us forget about how the games looked by making us like the games due to their music and replay-ability features. Sonic 2’s music in my opinion is better than the original games music as I feel it fits the well let’s say the feeling and look of destruction caused in each level in the game whether it be the enjoyment and maybe even wacky filled tune of Casino Night Zone to the serious and dangerous tone of Metropolis Zone and even the relaxed and peaceful tune of Hill Top Zone there will surely be a few songs that will pave their way into your heart. My personal favorite song is from a level that was made during the beta of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 but it didn’t make the cut although; the song used in that level did play in the credits after you beat the final boss, from what I recall the song wasn’t in any of the levels in the final cut of the game. If you want to know what I’m talking about you can check out the level Dust Hill in the hack Sonic 2 Long Version on Vizzed, I think the sound in this game is amazing and was used to its full potential so a perfect 10 out of 10 is my rating for sound.
Addictiveness: 9 out of 10
As if Sonic the Hedgehog wasn’t already addictive enough for you Sega took what made the first game great and multiplied it many times over creating many new additions to the game, both in the normal game as well as the hidden secrets. Probably the main reason why this game has a higher addictiveness value is the fact that it has multiplayer both in the one player mode and in the vs. mode, in the one player mode another person can use a second genesis controller or keyboard configuration in order to control tails and help the first player by destroying enemies and earning rings for Sonic but; that’s not all either as having another person play as tails can help you in the special stage (or it can make it harder to finish depending on the persons experience with beating the special stages). In the vs. mode though you get a choice to race against the second player in 3 different levels and whoever reaches the end first wins, and there is also the special stage that you can play where whoever earns the most rings by the end wins the round which does add a nice variety whether you are playing in the 1 player game or the vs. game with a friend. There is one more thing I would like to add and that is about when I stated that Tails uses his two tails in order to fly, just so that way there isn’t any confusion you can’t fly with tails if you are controlling him as the only way he can fly in this game is if he goes off the screen to where he must helicopter tail his way back to Sonic. Finally this game does something that the previous game lacked greatly and that is by collecting all the emeralds you actually earn something that’s really worth the time and effort, no it’s not the true ending to the game it’s a new form of Sonic known as Super Sonic whom is invincible against any attack (except for getting crushed, drowning, and falling into a bottomless pit). With this addition the addictiveness value is in my opinion higher than the first game so a 9 out of 10 is well deserved.
Story: 10 out of 10
As Sonic you’ve saved the land that was once in peril due to the evil and scientific genius Doctor Robotnik, it seemed like peace had returned to the land of South Island with all of Sonic’s friends back to see his sweet moves once again. But as we all know peace will never last forever and this is especially true for the inhabitants of Emerald Island because Robotnik has once again come back to seek power but this time he’s planning total world domination and to accomplish his goal he must search for the 7 chaos emeralds. So Sonic rushes off to gain the 7 emeralds and crush Robotnik’s plans once and for all however; this time he shall not be going alone as his trusted friend Miles “Tails” Prower joins him on his journey and is willing to help him in any way possible where they must travel over 11 different lands each with almost every zone having 2 acts with the following exceptions though: (Wing Fortress, Metropolis, Sky Chase, and the Death Egg) whether it be over the grass filled lands of Emerald Hill Zone, the colorful and gambling area of Casino Night Zone, or even to the enemy protected area of Wing Fortress Zone, you’re sure to have a long and winding adventure ahead of you. An excellent story if you were to ask me so I feel as though this is deserving of a 10 out of 10 rating!
Depth: 9 out of 10
What I find very funny about the amount of levels/zones in this game is the fact that I has only 1 more zone/level that in the original Sonic The hedgehog which had 7 levels with 6 of them having 3 acts, while Sonic 2 had 11 levels with 7 of them having 3 acts, 1 having 3 acts, and 3 having only 1 act. So basically if you add it together Sonic 1 had 19 levels and Sonic 2 had 20 levels very strange isn’t it? Now when you’re actually playing the game it will take quite a while to finish all the zones and defeat the game especially if you’re going to try collecting all the Chaos Emeralds so if you have a Genesis or are planning on playing a game on Vizzed just to pass the time then Sonic The Hedgehog 2 certainly shall not disappoint you, the player of this game. I described one particular reason why this game had a higher replay value in my addictiveness section of the review and that was the addition of Super Sonic in this game like I’ve stated already you must collect all 7 emeralds in order to be able to use Super Sonic’s power, although; there is another way to achieve his power which I personally do not recommend as it means you won’t be able to get better a beating the special stages anyway I’m going to have to digress and get straight to the point. First you must go into the options menu going down to the sound test option; you must then enter these numbers: 19, 65, 09, and 17 which will unlock the Stage
Select menu you’ll then need to return to the title screen and before you
select the 1 player game hold down the A on your keyboard (A button on the genesis controller) and you should be at the Stage
Select screen, once again go down to the sound test on this screen and this time enter the numbers: 4, 1, 2, and 6 if done correct you shall hear a ring chime then you just have to hold A as you enter a stage once you collect 50 or more rings you should transform into Super Sonic by jumping into the air. There’s also the debug mode cheat which can be done using the same instructions that I mentioned above except this time when you go into the stage
select’s sound test option the numbers you must enter this time are: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, and 4 then do the same thing you did earlier enter the stage while holding down the A button now whenever you pressed the S key (B button on Genesis) you will change into a ring and can lay down as many as you want by pressing the D key (C button on Genesis). There are many more secrets to be unveiled in this game but I simply can’t tell all of them in this review so I think it’s time to end the depth part by giving it the score I believe is fair that being a 9 out of 10.
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
In my opinion this game is a lot easier than its predecessor especially considering that its underwater levels are more forgiving this time around and having a partner (Tails) to help you out in these levels also lower the risk of losing a life in certain areas, even with these benefits though the game still isn’t a stroll through the baseball park either as it still retains the challenge of remembering which path you’ve taken and making sure you don’t rush to far ahead and end up getting attacked or losing a life by getting crushed. The only level in this game that I find very and I mean VERY unforgiving is the Mystic Cave Zone Act 2 as there is a certain part in the level where if you don’t catch the grassy switch to activate the bridge and you fall into the pit below you are basically stuck there even if you were already using Super Sonic before you fell into the pit as he still can’t jump high enough, so it’s basically a death pit if you want to refer to it as that by which the only way to exit the pit normally is to die and then restart the level again and there is only one other way to exit the pit without dying if you don’t know what I mean by now..well...it’s the debug mode. Besides that section of the zone I don’t find a lot of the levels in this game to be all that difficult but because of that one flaw I’m raising the difficulty and making this section known as difficulty a 7 out of 10.
It seems like after this long and perilous journey we’ve made it to the end of the line, the final stronghold to the evil that we’ve been chasing after known as the Death Egg. You must defeat whatever engineered machine Robotnik has laid ahead to destroy you in order to have your final showdown with the mad scientist and make sure his reign of terror shall come to an end by using any means necessary, the evil doctor may doubt your powers and not think highly of you but that has been his mistake from the very beginning however; the same lesson applies to you as well don’t mistake his powers either as even though he is crazy he still has high intelligence. Don’t lose your cool now and use your resolve in order to make sure you don’t lose, as our blue hedgehog would say: “Yeah, Bring it on!” Are you prepared to bring it on though, brave gamer?

Happy Birthday, Sonic 2! Oh, you too Tails. Itachi9695
On this day 20 years ago, a game was released that would forever change gaming, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic 2 was released November 24, 1992 (In America anyway). The release date was dubbed "Sonic 2's Day" (It was released on a Tuesday) and since then, it has sold over 6 million copies. This game also introduced a staple character in the series, Miles Prower (I see what you did there), more commonly known as Tails. In this game, he just follows you around, but usually can't keep up and flies in every 10 seconds. This game is also very special to me as it is one of the first video games I ever played along with Super Mario World. This game made me an instant Sonic fan and I've been one my entire life, through the good times and the bad, Sonic is just the series that I always come back to for nostalgia. But enough about my personal history, let's wrap up Sonic 2 Month and talk about why I think this is the best video game I've ever played.Graphics The graphics in this game are some of the best on the Genesis, but I kind of expect that because after all, Sonic IS Sega's mascot. The sprites in this game are the best in the classic games in my opinion and the level art is just amazing. The backgrounds are done really well and really fit in with their respective levels. The animations are done really well, the only bad thing about that is there aren't many cutscenes to show them off. I keep forgetting to mention this, but I always get a little kick out of Eggman's look every time you hit him. It almost looks like he's saying "Why are you doing this to me?" or something like that. Anyway, let's continue with this review, shall we?Sound The soundtrack for this game is probably my favorite out of the entire series. It's the only video game soundtrack that I've downloaded the entirety of. I love every second of this game's musical pieces. From the "SEGA!!!" chant at the beginning to the ending credits, every piece is just really good to listen to. The music in this game, especially Emerald Hill Zone, just gives me a rush of nostalgia that almost no other game can. While Green Hill Zone may be the "nostalgia starter" for most fans, Emerald Hill is mine. There's just something about the entire soundtrack that screams "Sonic" for me, Even the little jingles like the Invincibility or Level Clear jingle (I really think they need to bring back this Level Clear theme for future games, just saying.) are pretty good. I guess I should move on before I get carried away and make this section the longest review section in history.Addictiveness This game is very addicting. I usually come back to it once a week because it's just that good. The different paths you can take, speed run attempts, exploration, you name it, you can do it (As long as it relates to the game itself anyway). I'm always taking a new path through every level, sometimes I find secrets I didn't even think were on the paths I was already taking. I love coming back to this game because I know I'm always going to find something new. Sometimes I find glitches, like one where I have already gotten Super Sonic, then pull a Sonic 1 and attempt to jump over to goal sign with 50+ rings, it literally makes it impossible to continue, at least on my actual Genesis cartridge, I don't think it works on this site. There's a lot of other things too, but we'll save them for the Depth section.Story Well, you could basically take Sonic 1's story, slap Tails in occasionally and say that's Sonic 2's story, but I'm going to summarize the story from the manual anyway. Why? Because I can! Here we go; Ever since he was a baby, Tails dreamed of being able to run like Sonic, and eventually, he succeeded, but Eggman has appeared once again, kidnapping Sonic and Tails' friends and turning them into robots. It seemed that Eggman had everything in his grasp. Everything except the 7 Chaos Emeralds, which, if gathered, could give Eggman all the power he needs to control the world...forever. It's up to Sonic and Tails to find the Chaos Emeralds before Eggman and foil his evil plans once again. Once again, the story here isn't too in depth, but it does give you enough to understand Sonic and Tails' motivation. There are a few cutscenes near the end of the game that show a little bit and show how Sonic ends up in space for the final fight.Depth This game has tons of secrets, new pathways, secret monitors, hidden checkpoints, etc. There are a grand total of 11 Zones in this game, each with 2 Acts instead of 3 from the first game (There are a few exceptions). The levels are; Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, Casino Night, Hill Top, Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, Metropolis (3 Acts), Sky Chase (1 Act), Wing Fortress (1 Act), and Death Egg (1 Act, final 2 bosses are here). If there's one thing I can say about this Sonic game compared to any other, it's that I don't hate any of them. Sonic 1 had Labyrinth Zone, Sonic 3 had Carnival Night Zone, and Sonic & Knuckles had Sandopolis. Here, I don't find one Zone that I don't look forward to. I also think this game has exactly the right amount of levels. I don't find it too long or short. There are also Special Stages in this game, but instead of jumping into a giant ring at the end of an Act, you simply collect 50 rings, find a checkpoint, and jump into the ring of stars on the top. I will say this right now, I actually like Sonic 2's Special Stages out of all the other games. I think these are the most "Sonic-like" Special Stages in the games. To complete a Special Stage, simply nab the amount of rings for each of the 3 sections, and the Emerald is yours. Collect all 7 and you can transform into Super Sonic, but I'll get into that a little bit later.Difficulty Now, for me, who has been playing this game since he was only 4 or 5, this game is pretty easy to me. Except maybe for the final 2 bosses, where you have no rings. For first time players, yes this game will be a little difficult, especially Chemical Plant Zone Act 2. But after playing it for so long, it's almost like a walk in the park for me. Regardless, I still have fun playing this game. Believe me, I would rather have a short and pretty easy game than one that's ridiculously hard and takes years to beat. Metropolis Zone could also be considered difficult, I guess. Mostly because of enemy placements, but once you figure out where they are, you can defeat them easily. Well, that's it for that, on to the most important aspect of ANY game.Gameplay/Controls This game is the best controlling game in the 2D Sonic library, to me anyway. This game controls about the same as the other 2D games, but with a few minor changes to physics. The controls for this game are really simple, the D-pad moves you left and right and allows you to look up and down. There is one new move in this game that would become a trademark move for Sonic, the Super Sonic Spin Dash, that's what the manual calls it, everyone else simply calls it the Spin Dash. How do you perform this Spin Dash? By holding down and mashing any or all of the buttons repeatedly, then releasing down for a burst of speed. This move makes traversing through levels a lot easier and faster, but if you wanna just roll, you can simply press down while running. Now, remember I was talking about Super Sonic a little while ago? Here's how you use him. Once you have the 7 Chaos Emeralds, simply collect 50 rings, then jump and you'll become Super Saiyan...I mean Sonic, Super Sonic. As Super Sonic, you are invincible, can jump higher, and run faster. The downside? Well, it is somewhat difficult to control, especially if you're trying to do precise platforming. Also, you consume rings at a rate of about 1 ring per second, but you can collect more rings to keep Super Sonic for as long as possible. Everything else is pretty much the same.Overall, I think Sonic 2 is a must-have for any gamer and ANY Sonic fan. To me, it's the closest to perfect any video game will ever get. The game looks nice, the music is great, and it controls really well. Something I very highly recommend you play if you haven't already. With all of this being said, I give this game a 10 out of 10, the only perfect 10 I will probably ever give a game. Well, that's it for Sonic 2 Month, join me next month for Rage Month, where I review the games you should not play during the holidays. I rage so you won't have to. I really hope you enjoyed this month and I hope to see you again soon. 'Till then, peace out!

Sonic The Hedgehog Bluey5
Introduction: So here we are. The infamous Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Let me start off by saying that this game really is fun and is one of the best for Sega's mascot: Sonic the Hedgehog. This is a platform game, of course, made and developed by the Sonic Team and was published by Sega originally for the Genesis and the Mega Drive! This unique game introduces a new character as well to show that Sonic has his own buddies as well! Miles "Tails" Prower is the new character, and is also playable! So, do me a favor if you were reading this to read below.
Difficulty:8
Let me say that this game is just a little bit tougher than it's predecessor, but not by that much. I'd say that this game is even on difficulty with the last one, but with this game being longer is what makes it tough. All though, it is not that hard to manage though. If you can beat the first one, you can beat this one for sure... maybe. I would recommended you only using Sonic if you plain on trying to become Super Sonic. Tails is a real bother in the mini-game, unless you have a lot of skill.
With a bit of practice, this game could be no problem! The new spin dash move helps tremendously in this game, so use that too.
Depth:9
OK, here we go with the depth of this game. It is a fair size of depth in this game, not bad and it is good.
So the game-play is basically like the first Sonic the Hedgehog; you, the player, finishes all of the levels you come across, moving left to right usually, in a time limit of ten minutes. But don't even mind the ten minutes limit, when you play it you will probably finish the levels WAY faster than that time. So along the adventure of the level you collect these wonderful gold rings and you defeat the badniks that are in your way.(Not sure where Sonic keeps all of his rings!) There are star posts that are checkpoints so if you die and lose a life, you'll return there. But if you played the last Sonic the Hedgehog, you will notice that you will actually have to FIND the checkpoints. This Sonic game is a little bit more "free" if you will. But the special thing about these star posts is that if you have 50 rings and activate one, sparkles appear above it which you can jump into and play the special stage to see if you have what it takes to take the emerald! More about those later. In this game, there are only two acts per level this time, facing Dr. Eggman at act 2. The only time there is an third act is in Metropolis.
The game-play in this is also faster than its predecessor. Like stated above, Sonic and Tails can use a spin dash move where sonic builds up speed in place while in a ball, and then shoots out really fast! This is great for gaining speed.
So here is where I talk about these special stages! The special stages in this game tracks Sonic and/or Tails from behind as you run through half-pipe course filled with rings and bombs. There are checkpoints in this stage which is reached by collecting a certain amount of rings. There are two checkpoints, and then you get the emerald. But as you may have known this, run into bombs and you will lose some rings. The amount of rings you lose varies on the stage you are on such as if you are on the 5th emerald, it varies there. The stages are linear and increases in difficulty as you progress through them. Unlike Sonic 1, you can't progress to later stages until you beat the one your on. Obtaining the emerald or not, you are transported back to the level when it is over and you start with ZERO rings, so stay cautious.
There is also a options screen where you can select playing as Sonic and Tails, Sonic alone or Tails alone. By default, you control Sonic and Tails tags along as an unplayable character. But a second player can control Tails! Tails can die anyway Sonic can, but he is invincible as he keeps returning on screen in a few seconds. Tails CANNOT fly in this game.
Sonic also has a super transformation in this game! It is known as Super Sonic. If you collect all seven emeralds, Sonic is able to do this. If you have 50 rings and jump, he will transform. At this point he glows yellow and is invincible to enemies and spikes. He still dies by drowning, getting crushed, failing of screen or running out of time. His speed, jump height and acceleration is increased. With that being stated, he is much harder to control! The only decrease is his spin dash. The effectiveness of it is decreased dramatically. While in this mode, Sonic uses one ring per second and if you run out of rings, you revert to regular. When you finish a level you also revert to regular form. Unfortunately, Tails has no super form and collecting all emeralds does nothing.
This game also includes a two player mode! In this mode, two players compete against each other as Sonic or Tails in a split-screen race through three regular zones and one special stage. The players are judged in five areas: Score, Time, rings held at the end of the level, rings collected, and the number of item boxes broken. In the regular stages, the player with the highest score in these aspects wins. In the special stage, you win by collecting the most rings. If one player finishes a level before the other can cross the finish line, they have 60 seconds to get there or they lose a life! If there is a tie in any case, a special stage round must be completed. There are also new items only in versus mode. Teleport, which sends you to different parts of the level, and a Robotnik item that damages you. There is an option setting to take the Robotnink item away and use only telport.
So, now you know how much depth this game has. It is a lot isn't it? The most I've seen here so far.
Story:8
The story of this game is different than the usually. It has the usually in it, but with a twist.
So Dr. Robotnik is back after his crushing defeat in Scrap Brain to conquer the world again. After recovering, he follows Sonic's biplane, the Tornado to his vacation spot West Side Island. Legend says that an ancient civilization once abused the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds on West Side Island. Sonic meets a two-tailed fox named Miles Prower. They became great friends. Meanwhile, Robotnik searches for the Emeralds to fuel his Death Egg warship. On a afternoon, he launches a full-scale attack on the island! He imprisons all of the animals located on the island and turns them into work-drones called badniks like the first game. Sonic is now determined to stop Robotnik, but isn't alone this time. Tails aids him as they collect all of the emeralds and stop Robotnik before he completes his warship.
Like I said, usual with a twist. Not bad.
Addictiveness:8
This game is very addictive! I can play this game endlessly and never get tired of it. The amount of depth it has is amazing and you can play with a friend! This game certainly almost outdid itself. Any Sonic fan would just LOVE to play this game!
Sound:9
Like always, Sonic always has some good music. The zone music is really enjoyable to here, full of adventure. I also love the special stage music. It is perhaps my favorite! The sound effects has also improved greatly and has more sound effects! You can listen to all of this in the options menu as well! How awesome is that!?
Graphics:9
This graphics blows me away. The way everything looks is just beautiful! It is bright and colorful, and really helps set the mood of the level and the game. Stunning graphics for its time and even now! It is easily one of the most best looking games on the Genesis!
Overall:8.6
This game is awesome to sum it up. Great sounds and soundtrack, stunning graphics, great game-play and has tuns of depth. This is all what makes this game a never ending classic and a must play for anyone who enjoys a good platform game. This game has some secrets to explore as well. Great stuff.
Have fun playing this amazing game. Thank you for your time.

The Way Past Cool Game. King Sull
#SEGAFanboy #IGiveUpOnFixingMyErrors #BiasedOpinion #ILoveHashtagsSonic 2 I love it. I also grew up playing this game the most because it was my very FIRST game ever! The best game for the Genesis in my opinion. The world is controlled by can ya guess? Yep Bowser! Wait no I mean Dr. Ivo Robotnik So you, Sonic the Hedgehog and his adopted brother the two tailed fox Miles "Tails" Prowler. Oh didn't I mentioned that there is a new Character (the best and my favorite) Who is Sonic's side kick who doesn't really get to do much. (he's like Luigi in the Sonic series. Well basically) So how bout we get started with the Review already!Graphics-7 The Graphics Are great. Way better than the NES SNES. (I know the SNES had some games that were 3D but the colors were meh) Sonic Is way Past cool Looking And Tails Is even better Colors are right but the stages look better and the things that can hide in the back round can surprise you because of that. But the special stages that are in 3D (Yeah the special stages are in 3D) now the look like shape in real life with that sprite look ( kind of like Super Mario RPG) oh yeah and the explosions for Dr. Ivo Robotnik ( I refuse to call him Eggman but I do it all the time in the future) Are some thing that makes it a blast to destroy his Robot bosses ( That also look better ) that is a Explosive thing to see!Sound-8The sound just amazing the boss theme has changed (like it always does) that is really catchy the music at the begging has change (I love both but just a little more for sonic 2 because it was my first video game) Green hill still has awesome music(it always does) and the music for the bonus stages just making you want to collect all the rings you can get to hear the epic music or just the chaos emeralds. The jumping sound and when you get items and their are some places where you just want to turn the sound off (wing fortress) and that sound when Tails (and/or) Sonic is about to drown I hate it. It is perfectly place but it scares me at times I mean I panic and run hoping that air bubbles or high ground. Addictiveness-9The game is so awesome that you always want to play it again and the fact that you will die a lot Makes you want to play again an beat the game and some times for the nostalgia and trying to collect all the Chaos Emeralds all the ones that ARE OVER 9000! Nah there is only 7 of them. I love playing this game even though I have been stuck on the same part for most of my life (and still am).Size-6The story is the same but this time Dr Eg- err I mean Dr. Ivo Robotnik Has a Ship (like the egg carrier in Sonic adventures 2 or 1) So you have to stop him before he uses the Death Egg That's on the ship I think that makes the sequel Sonic and Knuckles I think but that is for another review (if I can get off my butt) and you must destroy all of his robots to free as many Robotized animals (or is that only for the cartoons?) to free the animals but how come Sonic and Tails are the only humanoid figures that are not Humans (like Egg man) but I am getting off track.Depth-7There are a lot of things to do Collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds get 99 lives any personal goals and its very long and hard! Wait did I say 7 well it is just very long so I am Going to change it. To. A 6.Difficulty-9Now this game is long and hard Like water levels bosses (they are really planned out and makes you use your head) Its hard to get Extra Lives and you only get 1 continue It is hard to jump on platforms that are small and away really fast and If you do not know where to go this game is very hard and to get the all the Chaos Emeralds get harder each time and for me I am always 1 ring short from getting the last emerald)Overall-9.5This game is very fun and I love it is like the most perfect game for the Genesis. I grew up with this so I might of made it sound better than it is but I do not think I did. But feel free to tell me. Now this is my ending. Give this review a 5 comment and on this and play the game and this has been a Long Review by yours truly Paper Luigi. My next review might be for sonic 3 or the games with Knuckles. Good Bye. Tails stop drowning! *throws DS at the wall*

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 vizwiz123
Previously I made a review for the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I figure I might as well do all of the Sonic Genesis games (even the spin-offs, but that will take some time). So here it is, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Genesis. Released in 1992, this eventually became the best-selling game on the Genesis, and for good reason too. While not my favorite Sonic game, or even favorite Sonic game on the Genesis, there is plenty of things about this game that any gamer out there can enjoy. With still great graphics for its time, especially with how colorful everything looks compared to the first game, great soundtrack, and plenty of speed to go around, this definitely earns the title of best-selling game on the Genesis.
Plot-wise, it's pretty much the same as the previous title. Dr. Robotnik is once again kidnapping animals to turn into robots, and it's your job to save them all. Just like in the first game, the controls are pretty much the same. Except for one thing. This is the first Sonic game to introduce the iconic Spin Dash, where you hold down and the jump button to start spinning on the ground. Release to launch yourself at high speed to plow through everything. Basically, this is a quick way to get speed to defeat a row of enemies, speed through loops, and get up slopes. All the items from the last game are back here as well. Ring boxes, speed sneakers, all that jazz. The new thing in this game is a new character, Miles "Tails" Prower, a two-tailed genius fox, all though that is really shown until the 3D Sonic games. Did you know his name is a pun on the phrase "miles per hour"? :P He doesn't really do anything in the main game, he just follows you and mimics your movements. HE can hit enemies if you make him jump into them, though. Oh, and he can't die. He'll just fly down from the top of the screen and return. And he makes the special stages harder since he follows you loosely and will constantly run into bombs and drop rings needed to win. While he's a new face on the scene, I recommend not using Sonic and Tails together.
The Chaos Emeralds also return, but this time their are 7 of them. To get them, you'll need to enter the special stage, which is completely different from the special stages in the first game. Instead of keeping 50 rings at the end of a level and jumping into a giant ring to enter them, this time it's slightly different. You still need 50 rings, but this time you just have to pass a checkpoint and jump into a ring of sparkles that comes from it. Now, the special stages in Sonic were just bumping Sonic from platform to platform through a maze like course to the end. Sonic 2's special stages are drastically different. You're set into a half pipe, automatically running through it, and you need to collect a specific amount of rings by the checkpoint of the stage to advance to the next segment of it. IF you don't get enough rings, you fail and you're sent back to the checkpoint you were at in the main level. Get through the three segments of the special stage to get the Chaos Emerald. The only thing in the special stages are rings and bombs. Hit a bomb and you'll lose 10 rings. They aren't hard to dodge in general, but they can get in the way of rings at some points. The first 3 special stages really aren't that hard, it's basically just practice runs for the latter half. The next 3 crank the difficulty up a notch, making rings a bit more scarce and placing bombs in rows, and even a full circle that you need to jump over. The last special stage is definitely the hardest because of all the crap you need to dodge in order to get to just the first checkpoint. And the final stretch is pretty much luck based, since the rings are in no pattern at all, they're just spread out EVERYWHERE.
But, if you can endure all of these, you can nab all of the Emeralds, and actually get an award for them besides the "good" ending of the game, Super Sonic(making his first appearance here). Super Sonic is everything Sonic is an more, he can zoom much faster than normal Sonic can, plus he's invincible to everything (Except bottomless pits, being crushed, and drowning obviously) so you can plow through everything. However, you need 50 rings to activate him by just jumping. The main problem with SS is that he's hard to control when it comes to specific platforming and what I just mentioned before, jumping to activate him. Once you get 50 rings, you pretty much HAVE to activate Super Sonic since you'll eventually need to jump. SS runs on a timer based on his rings, losing one ring per second. When you hit 0, you're left with no rings as regular Sonic, vulnerable to death, so collect as many rings as possible as SS. Now that that's explained, let's get into the actual levels of the game.
First up is Emerald Hill Zone. Although not as iconic as Green Hill, it's still a very well known level among Sonic fans. Pretty much all the enemies from Green Hill are back, but with better designs to them. The one new enemy here is Coconuts, who just hangs from trees in the background tossing coconuts down at you. Sega figured out that three levels in a zone was just a bit too long, so it's been put dwn to two zones, Act 1 being the main level and Act 2 being the boss level. Act 1 is pretty much is just basic. Platforming, some speed, easily defeated enemies, loops galore, etc. Act 2 is home to one of Robotnik's most pathetic excuses for a boss ever, some drill car. It's somewhat threatening in appearance, but all Robotnik does is drive from side to side. Nothing is stopping you from hitting him at all. OH sure, he'll launch the drill at you if he's off-screen with one more hit to go, but that poses no threat at all. Same as always, 8 hits and he explodes and flies away. Rescue the animals, and zone complete.
Next up is Chemical Plant Zone, famous just for all the ridiculous speed it gives you from speed boosters, loop after loop after loop, speed tubes, and long downward slopes. Oh, and its awesome music. There's also water in this zone, but its really no threat if you know this level like me. :P. New enemies here include these things that stick to a surface and fire pellets at you, and these blue liquid things that is fired between two points. The only other threat besides these enemies are trap door platforms, but they aren't too much of a hassle. Once you get through all of that, you'll meet Robotnik in another pathetic machine. IT scoops up some of the liquid below the platform and tries to drop it on you. He should only do this once, because you can get plenty of hits on him before he actually tries to dump the liquid on you. All in all, a pathetic boss.
Following that zone is Aquatic Ruin Zone, the main water level of the game. Your really can't get much speed in this level, because when you aren't in water, you're pretty much platforming and watching out for enemies. Speaking of enemies, new ones here are drill robots that resemble Grounder from the Sonic cartoon back in the day, totem poles that shoot arrows at you as you pass them, and fly robots that just try to follow you and pretty much annoy you. Fortunately, you never have to touch the water in this zone if you manage to take the highest route possible. This time in Act 2, two tall totem poles appear at the end and Robotnik appears with a hammer, smashing the totem poles to shoot arrows at you, which you must jump on after they stick to the other totem pole and then you hit Robotnik. IF you're quick, you can get on top of one of the totem poles as they first rise and wail on Robotnik, perfectly safe.
The fourth zone is the first casino level in a Sonic game, Casino Night Zone. Filled with colors galore, neon lights, bumpers, and slot machines, this is a great zone to just waste your time on earning rings. That said, there really isn't much running here since you're mostly busy either hitching a ride on some elevators, doing quick platforming, or just bouncing around everywhere. The only enemy in the entire zone are these things with a bumper shield that will bump you back if you run straight into them (you need to hit them from behind to kill them). At the end of Act 2, Robotnik appears in a machine that actually has a shot at beating you. Not because of what it can do, all it does is just drop bombs on you, but because of the process of hitting him. YOu have to hit the top of it using bumpers to elevate yourself, and this usually leads to you either missing horribly or hitting the bottom of his machine, which is electrified. Once you get the hang of the controls, Robotnik isn't that challenging.
Up next is Hill Top Zone. Casino to hill top? :P. This zone marks the return of the enemies with spike balls around them (Orbonauts) and the seesaw platforms. There are also loops where you need to Spin Dash to end up drilling through the ground and underground sections filled with lava and dinosaur things coming from the lava, which can be used as platforms once defeated. There are also trolley things, but that's just a way to slow down the game really. :P Oh, and there are enemies that launch spikes at you. :P Today, Robotnik has a completely pathetic machine that just pops out of nearby lava and shoots a flamethrower at you. :P. Really easy, he leaves himself vulnerable way too long, so he can be beaten quickly.
Onto Mystic Cave Zone, where things actually become somewhat difficult! There are plenty of things here, pillars to crush you, rotating boes for some reasons, bridges that require pulling down a lever to pull it down, snake things that hide in the wall and try to hit you as you pss by, annoying fireflies that are completely invincible when they begin flashing, and "The Pit," a long vertical trap with spikes at the bottom. There is no way out of it if you fall down it, even as Super Sonic. Once you fall, you just have to wait till you die. Probably the hardest zone in the game, in my opinion. At the end lies Robotnik with a drilling machine that drills into the ceiling as stalagmites fall down to damage you. He can only be hit when he pops out and goes towards another section of the ceiling and when he lowers his drills. He's not hard at all, especially since the flames below his machine can't damage you.
Up next is Oil Ocean, the last normal zone in the game. Instead of bottomless pits, there is oil, which slowly drags you down and kill you if you land in it, but you can jump out of it easily. There are also automated sections where you're constantly launched between cannon after cannon once you hit this certain thing. There are also platforms constantly launched into the hair by these jet things below it, and slopes with oil on it that you'll automatically slide down through. However, the two enemies here are kinda annoying. Octopus enemies that jump up and shoot pellets at you, and sea horse enemies that will fire at you even off-screen if I remember. And what they shoot is really fast, so it's hard to avoid at times. Here, Robotnik has a machine that hides in the oil. First, it'll pop up and do nothing (hit it!), then it will fire some easily avoided spike thing at you from the oil, then a long arm with a laser cannon on it will emerge and fire lazers at you, one which can hit the platform you stand on and cause flames to erupt from it. He's really easy to beat, just hit him whenever his machine actually pops out and does nothing.
Metropolis Zone. The hardest zone in the game. Why? Nearly everything in it. While there are the more fun things like speed tubes, rotating gear platforms, and bumpers placed to bounce you up to other areas, but then there are the bad things. Lava for no apparent reason, platforms with spikes emerging from all corners of it, annoying crab enemies that extend its arm at you and are difficult to kill because of their awkward hit boxes, annoying mantis enemies that send it's homing scythes at you that feel nearly impossible to dodge since these enemies are usually placed in small corridors, and starfish that detonates itself when you're near it and shoots five spikes out. The problem is that they hide in the walls. There are these platforms where you have to run on this screw to propel it upward through vertical corridors. And these guys are usually in the walls there. Oh, and Metropolis zone has three acts, all of which are annoying because of what I just mentioned. However, the boss of this zone isn't so bad. Robotnik has a shield of.......things that circle around him in a weird fashion, and one piece of it falls of everytime you actually hit Robotnik himself. IT's hard to beat this guy without getting hit once, because what you end up doing is getting hit on purpose, grabbing a ring that scatters (thank the heavens there are ring just before this guy), and abusing your brief invincibility just to hit him. Once his whole his whole shield is gone, he attempts to fire a pathetic lazer at you, but one more hit will kill this guy. A challenging boss, but not hard once you know what to do.
After the bullshmit that was Metropolis zone, we end up in Sky Chase, a nice breather level with relaxing music. This level is different because it's a one level zone, and there is no running at all. Your on Sonic's plane, piloted by Tails, chasing down Robotnik's ship and you're pretty much auto-scrolling slowly throughout the level, defeating bad guys as you go. The only baddies here are bird jet things that zoom by, turtles that sit atop a cannon firing at you, and these weird helicopter things that drop bombs. They're all easy to beat though. After getting a nice preview of Robotnik's ship and defeating the last batch of baddies, we're thrust into the next level. NO boss here.
Welcome to Wing Fortress Zone, where we start off with Tails getting shot down by a lazer being fired at the ship. AS he sinks, you jump onto this ship, and we're back to speed and platforming. This is another hard zone for several reasons. The entire level has a bottomless pit below, there are speed boosters that might send you just a bit too fast, there are plenty of tricky disappearing and conveyor belt platforming sections, and there are also more turtles on turrets firing at you the entire time. Plus, there are fans just waiting to get to slice you up and possible knock you down into the pit below. Thankfully, most of these threats are at the beginning of the level (bottom of the ship). Once you reach the top, nothing is really in your way. Once you break into the ship, we finally meet another boss, but this time there's no Robotnik. Instead we have a thing in the ceiling shooting lazers at you. The only way you can reach him and hit him(the thing itslef has to open up for you to hit him) is to jump on these platforms coming out. But they have spikes below them, so you may get hit by them. All in all, not too hard of a boss, but he can put up a fight. After beating it, you walk back to the outside of the ship to see Robotnik getting away again. You lose. Game over.
Naw, just kidding. Tails magically fixes his plane in mid-air by just slapping a rocket on it, and you fly up towards Robonik's getaway vehicle. Sonic grabs onto it as Tails flies down again, and Robotnik goes into his base in space, the Death Egg. So welcome to the Death Egg Zone, which is really just two boss battles. The first battle is with Silver Sonic(as Robotnik watches in the background behind some window), a robot Sonic with jets and spikes for Sonic's spines. What he does is just rolls up into a sharp ball and charges straight at you, sometimes leaping to try to throw you off. The hard thing about this guy is that you have to hit him specifically where his eyes are at and avoid accidentally hitting his spines, which can get a little frustrating. Oh, and there's no rings. IF you can manage yo beat this guy, Robotnik retreats and leaps into his ultimate machine, the Death Egg itself, a giant robot version of Robotnik. This final boss is no joking matter, especially for first time players. YOu have to hit him right in right in the chest area, but the fact that his spiked hands are usually around that area makes it annoying to do. He also launches himself into the air and tries to crush you, then throws his spiked fists at you if you manage to avoid getting flattened. That's really all he does, aside from walking back and forth and launching bombs at you if you happen to be behind him. But you still have no frickin rings. Definitely a hard boss just because of how hard it is to hit him. Once you beat him, his machine crumbles and the entire space station begins to explode as Sonic runs and leaps out of it. We get a cutscene (if you wanna call it that) of Tails witnessing the explosion of the Death Egg and hopping in his plane to go see what's up. Thankfully, as Sonic is falling to his apparent death, Tails catches him on the plane, and you get a nice shot of the two on the plane as they fly with some random birds. And thus ends Sonic 2. Time for official scores.
SCORES
Graphics - 9
Like the first game, the graphics are great to look at, but they are even better here than in Sonic 1 because of all of the color put into some of the levels, making it look very nice to look at. Still, a couple of the zones could've looked a tad bit better.
Sound - 9
Better overall soundtrack than the first game in my opinion. So many catchy tunes, and a lot more tracks than the original. Still, not my favorite Sonic soundtrack. :P
Addictiveness - 8
Personally, I think you'll find yourself playing this game a lot, mainly for the gloriousness that is Super Sonic and because compared to the first game, Sonic 2 is a pretty big game.
Story - 6
Again, the story is nothing special, but the new friendly addition of Tails, Sonic's best friend nowadays, was a nice touch to the story.
Depth - 7
It has a lot to offer with not just the main game, but the new multiplayer, where you race against your friend on three specific stages and battle each other on the special stage. It's very fun, and doesn't grow boring that much.
Difficulty - 6
The first half of the game is no sweat, but its the later half that can make you tear s bit of your hair out. Still, you'll find yourslef playing and playing again.
Overall - 9
A truly great sequel to the original game. In my opinion, it pretty much does everything the original but a bit better and has more features to it. This is truly a classic game, and I would easily recommend this game to any bored gamer out there.
Thanks for reading. :)

Sonic 2 genesis review. Stevie 764
Here is a review of a sonic game that came a year after the first game...
Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis!
How to play: Once again, you play as the hero, Sonic who finds out that robotnik attempts to take over the world again after failing to do so in sonic 1, you can also play as tails, a two-tailed fox although he can't fly in this game, (which means the tails don't have a purpose yet) he can fly from sonic 3 all the way to the current game which is called "Sonic 4: Episode 2". Tails first appeared in this game and is also Sonic's friend, which means that tails always tries to keep up with sonic wherever sonic goes. You get 3 lives again, you can get continues by getting 10000+ points at the end level bonus from the timer and the rings that you have when you cross the sign at the end of each level. You can't save, so if you Game Over without continues, you might end up making a rampage, and it is a long game, too! ;_;
Graphics - 10
Again, the graphics are great, some sprites are probably remodeled, there are so many new "awesome [s]sauce[/s]" designs. It is so great to look at super amazing designs, like in the casino night zone. I am giving the graphics a 10.
Sounds - 8
So many sounds from the first game were recycled into the sequel, but there isn't many new sounds. Yes, we all know the first game's sounds and music. There isn't that much to say, but I give the sound a 8.
Addictiveness - 7
This game is fun to try to pick up and play, if you played sonic 1, you HAVE to play this game! Like what I use in some of my reviews, I could glue my eyes to my TV when playing games that I like/love. I will 7 the addictiveness rating.
Depth - 7
There are many zones in this game, but unfortuantly, you can't save which brought up the depth, since I could stress very badly. There are nearly 15 zones in total and most of the acts contain 2 acts per zone, 1 zone has 3 acts, and two zones have one act. I will also 7 the depth.
Story - 7
The story of the game is again, robotnik plans to take over the world again due to failing to do it because of sonic. Now robotnik vows revenge and he creates more ways to take down sonic for good. Sonic will not let stuff like that happen so he and his new friend, "Tails" set off to stop robotnik from doing anything worse to the "mobius" planet. I give the story a 7.
Difficulty - 7
The difficulty starts out slightly harder than the first zone of sonic 1, but now it gets harder slower, I gave up playing through the game before I get to the hazy cave zone because it is a little hard and it is a little boring trying to store up extra live for the last bosses of the game. I give the the difficulty a 7 for the 4th time in a row! O_O
Overall - 8.5
This is a good game, but why did I rate it a 8.5? Here are the reasons:
- Confusing to get continues without cheating.
- Hard bosses.
- No save battery. (Main reason why I gave the game a 8.5)
- Some levels are confusing. (Sometimes, you can't tell where you have to go and you could get stuck in a loop again and again infinitly.)
You can't miss the sequels, even the classic game. Try this out! ;)

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Review-Gennesis hackerman
Today i'll review the incredible game Sonic The Hedgehog 2! Do I even have to say it this game was incredible :D! Lets get started
Graphics: If you look at other Sega Genesis games you'll see the graphics weren't as clean and nice as this one. The graphics in this game are one of my favourites out of all the genesis games. No joke! They are nice, clean, precise and overall just amazing for it's time! The enemies also had unique designs and all the stage were amazingly designed. I will gladly give the graphics in this game a 10/10 :)
Sound: The music in this game was just incredible! The only soundtrack that wasn't all that good was probably Casino Zone. But all of them are just great. The instrumentals is how Sonic should be now a days. Even the sound effect were great. The jumping and crushing the enemies :D. The music in this game is what sets it apart from Sonic 2 and 3 in my opinion. The sound in this game rightfully deserves a 9/10 :)
Addictiveness:this game is super addicting and fun. The stages are just so much fun to play. You even have a useless sidekick now -_-. But besides that the game really gets you hooked because it's just so fun and speedy. I don't know anyone who's liked this game and can't get enough of it. Once you start it's almost impossible for you to stop playing it! So obviously you know that addictiveness easily gets a 10/10.
Story: The storyline had no intro but most games on the genesis didn't. It didn't take you long to figure out that your trying to save woodland creatures and stop Dr.Robtknik from his evil plans. It's the same as the first one except you have tails to help you now. Don't get me wrong I thought the storyline was great but I thought they could have made it a bit different or added something to make it unique. But other than that the story was fine and I didn't really have much issues with it. I'll give the story a 7/10.
Depth: Now there wasn't really anything else to do besides try and complete the levels and get the highest score possible. So there wasn't much to do Ii admit i'll give the Depth a 2/10
Difficulty: It may seem easy after playing the first level but believe me it does get harder. I have trouble on this game I admit it and i'm pretty much an expert. The enemies do in fact get harder and so do the bosses. There are lots of traps to avoid and other things that make the game hard. So don't be fooled this game is in fact a challenging one. I give the difficulty an 8/10
Overall Rating: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is no doubt a great game and I much enjoyed it. I guarantee you will too so if you haven't played it yet you are really missing out! I give the overall rating a 9/10

Tyri Reviews Sonic 2! RavusRat
Imagine a peaceful world full of cute woodland creatures minding their own business, When suddenly a menacing egg-shaped human captures them and turns them into his mindless minions. Who is the one to try and defend these helpless critters. None other than the blue blur himself Sonic The Hedgehog.
Together with his new sidekick Miles “Tails” Prower they must make their way through several different environments, including such places as a chemical plant, A gigantic casino and even a giant space station. To try and fulfill their mission to stop the Evil Ivor Robotnik and to save their friends!
Sonic and Tails have a total of 11 Zones to try and navigate through, These Zones are as follows
Emerald Hill Zone- 2 Acts
Chemical Plant Zone – 2 Acts
Aquatic Ruin Zone - 2 Acts
Casino Night Zone – 2 Acts
Hill Top Zone – 2 Acts
Mystic Cave Zone – 2 Acts
Oil Ocean Zone – 2 Acts
Metropolis Zone – 3 Acts
Sky Chase Zone – 1 Act
Wing Fortress Zone – 1 Act
Death Egg Zone – 1 Act
The stages slowly increase in difficulty as you become more accustomed to the mechanics of the game and the scale that the difficulty increases by is fair, There is no sudden spike in difficulty either. So people who fail to beat the game on a first sitting will easily be able to pick it up again without feeling like they have been cheated.
The level design is also very solid, There are multiple pathways in each act. Some which can prove more tricky than others. There are also routes that people who have played Sonic 2 for years have not noticed such as the passage in Chemical Plant Act 2, That skips the water escape section and leads you straight next to the boss fight with
invincibility.
The graphics for this game are solid and are very visually entertaining to look at, Sonic and Tails easily stand out all the time, regardless of what act you are playing which is highly important in such a fast paced 2D platformer. Everything is easy to spot when moving at such a fast pace, Enemies don't blend into the background, Springs and spikes are easy to see and most importantly the screen is able to keep up with you so you don't blindly fall into a giant pit!
The music for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is amazing. All the songs are instantly recognizable and really set the mood for the zone you are in. For example Mystic Cave has a creepy vibe. Sonic games are usually well known for their solid music and this is no exception,
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a game that if you are familiar with can be completed in about 1-2 hours. So it is a game that you can pick up and complete within a single sitting. Unfortunately the game does not have a save feature, but as the game isn't that long it isn't such a huge hindrance.
Besides completing the game normally you can also try to obtain the 7 Chaos Emeralds from special stages so that you can become Super Sonic.
The special stage is essentially a half pipe that you run down and try to collect as many rings as possible. There is only two difficulties when trying to compete/complete a special stage and that is Not being able to move effectively enough to collect enough rings or Hitting bombs which reduces your total ring count by 10.
Super Sonic turns a bright yellow and is invincible (except instant kill stage hazards such as crushers and pits) He also moves faster and jumps higher than regular Sonic making him capable of beating stages a lot more easily and quicker too. The only thing to be aware of is that you need to get 50 rings before you can become Super Sonic (after collecting the emeralds)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is not a very difficult game at all. Most first timers will easily make it pass the opening stages, and may struggle on final 2 stages where the platforming and bosses become a challenge. Especially Death Egg zone where you have to fight two bosses with no rings. Basically meaning that if you get hit once you die. Luckily lives are very easy to obtain in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, You can find many scattered among the levels, You get them from collecting 100 rings total as well. You can also get continues by either completing Special Stages or by completing an act and getting a bonus of over 10,000 points. The bonus is decided by how long it took you to beat the act and the amount of rings you had when finishing the act.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Also has multiplayer capabilities. You can either get a second player to control Tails in Single player. Or you can compete against friends to prove who is better on 4 stages. The stages are as follows.
Emerald Hill Zone
Casino Night Zone
Mystic Cave Zone
Special Stage
Each act will be judge on 5 factors to decide who wins that particular act they are
Score - Who scored the most points during the level
Time – Who completed the level the quickest
Ring – Who finished the level with the most rings
Total Ring – Who collected the most rings in total
Item Box – Who broke open the most item boxes
Each zone is best out of 3. With the 3rd stage Being a special stage zone. During these stages your objective is to have more rings than your opponent at each checkpoint. The trick to these Zones is getting your character in front of your rivals by jumping over them. This can also happened when the player in front hits a bomb.
Finally Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is one of those games that a lot of people have strong nostalgic feelings for (myself included) as it was one of the most popular Sega Genesis games. Despite not being a launch title Sonic 2 sold over 6,000,000 copies and was the second highest selling game for the Genesis with only it's prequel Sonic the Hedgehog selling more.
Would I recommend this game to new players, Yes I would. I feel that anybody that has not played Sonic 2 should give it a try. It's easy to pick up, beautiful to look at and won't take long to complete either!

The hedgehog is back and he has a little friend with him! RedHotToddy
After beating the first sonic the hedgehog for genesis, I though of them making a sequel someday, I wondered day and night what it could possibly be like, Would it have new characters? New powers? New levels? New enemies and bosses? Well, Check, check, check, and check, That is right, sonic the hedgehog is finally back by popular demand and he is ready to break the sound barrier just one more time! What is this game you ask? Well guys, it is here, This is Sonic the hedgehog 2 for the Sega genesis. Let's get started shall we? Okay then.
Story-7/10
Well the story of this game is that, Well, Ahem, It has been more then a year since sonic the hedgehog has defeat the evil Dr eggman and restored order to his land! Well, that is pretty good to hear! So sonic has finally been getting a long deserved vacation after going through all that trouble to save the world. Until today, Along his vacation, Sonic has met a new best friend who will later become a major character in the series, Tails miles prower, he is a funny chill and layed back fox who has become sonic's former friend and ally, So you are probably wondering, what has happened to Eggman? Well here's the scoop on what he has been up to, Along the past few years or so, Eggman has been working on this giant robot called the Death egg in order to wreck havoc on sonic's world! To power the robot, he will need the chaos emeralds! It is now up to sonic and his furry friend to stop the robot from wrecking havoc!
Gameplay-8/10
To say the least, sonic the hedgehog 2 plays much like the first title, Except there are way more newer features added to the mix! The first difference is that sonic is not alone this time, this time around he is now aided by his loyal and trusty sidekick tails mile prower, and he is pretty cool to say the least! Another new feature is that you can now turn into super sonic once you have collected all the chaos emeralds! And the last one is that sonic can now use the super powerful spin dash! With this move, he can blaze through the level at high speeds curled up in a ball. But anyways, Sonic the hedgehog 2 puts you in the role of sonic and tails, as you and your furry companion run through big dangerous and fun levels, defeating the bad guys, collecting any goodies along the way, and most importantly, Stopping robotnik's evil plan! The controls re pretty simple, You use the D-pad to move, You use all the available face buttons A B and C to jump, and once you have all the chaos emeralds and at least 50 rings saved, you can press the face buttons while in the air to turn into super sonic! In this state, sonic will turn all golden and much more faster and powerful, he will go much more faster and cannot be hurt by anything and I tell you anything! The level design has changed alot since the first title, Each world now consists of 2 levels instead of 3! The first level being a platform level, and the second level being the main boss level, I have no problem with this, but it makes me feel that there are rarely any platforming action to each world, unless you count the first bit of Act 2, before you get to the boss! Now to the bosses, they are pretty darn tough, you will need some thinking and timing in order to beat these guys! The game also offers a versus mode where one player is sonic and the other player is tails, and you guys pick any of the available levels and race eachother to the finish! Each level has tons of items to collect, including shields, rings, extra lives, and so on. Oh yeah, in order to play special stages, you will need 50 rings still, but you will now have to jump through this ray above the checkpoints, to access it, anyways, that is all I can say for the gameplay!
Graphics-10/10
The graphics are simply put amazing, everything has really changed since the first title and I think that is really important when making a sequel (I:E Ratchet and clank going commando) But anyways, everything in this sequel is better then ever, looking sharp as a tack and bursting with color and everything! But anyways, as for the levels and such, They are an absolute blast to play through and run in and I think you will all agree with me! The levels this time around arrange from hills, casinos, underwater temples, power plants, and so on! Now as for the actual character sprites, they look pretty darn good as well! Sonic looks the same, Tails is a pretty cool radical guy, Eggman is your typical ego-maniac scientist obsessed with ruling the world, and so on! The HUD in the game is pretty self explanatory, it displays your current score, how many rings you have obtained in the level, and last but not least, How many lives you have left in the whole game. Sonic has been a kids and family friendly series, so why not this one?
Sound-8/10
As always, the soundtrack in this game is extremely catchy and really helps you prepare for each level and boss after the last, and I think that is a huge plus! But anyways, the sound in this game is really catchy like all sonic games, Each level's song really fits the overall feel and mood of the level you are playing through and I think that is important in sonic games like this. Now as for the sound effects, they are pretty spot-on as well! You get some typical ones like the jump, the ring, the dash, and so on! The music in these games never gets repetitive for me, and that is really for the best!
Addictiveness-9/10
Man! This game is just too much fun for me I can't take it anymore! The main reasons are a plenty, and one reason out of many is just controlling sonic himself man! Sonic is a very speedy and agile character with alot to like about him, and that is a huge plus when it comes to making a good video game character, and the second addictive fact about this game to me are the levels themselves! They all have alot to do and explore, and that is the best part about them! The game is still really fun, and I think all of you guys on vizzed board should agree.
Depth-8/10
This game is believe it or not actually longer then the first game! And here is why, Well, first, This adventure is about 6-7 worlds long, so get ready for a big 1-2 hour quest filled with fun adventure and everything else. Second, the game offers a brand new fresh 2 player mode where one player is sonic and the other player is tails, and you guys pick any level from the game and race eachother to the finish! Sequels always have more then the first game, and this is NO exception!
Difficulty-7/10
Of course like always, the game can be really challenging at points, and one prime example for me is in the metropolis zone, I was playing one time and I kept getting tossed around by these bumpers over and over again with no way to get out! The primary yet allusional way is just to leave your genesis on running until the time limit reaches 9:99, problem solved. Some of those pesky bosses can be pretty though as well! But don't worry, sonic is fun when it is challenging! But not like Jak 2 challenging!
Overall-10/10
You must buy this game now, nuff said! It is truly one of the greatest sonic games you can get on the genesis today! And here is why, I gave this game a 10 because everything it has for you to do then the first sonic! The game offers super sonic, more bigger levels, a lengthier adventure, a 2 player mode, and so on! So anyways, this has been RedHotToddy's 113th review, and well see you guys later! I will try my VERY best not to go on hiatus after my 130th review, but anyways, see you guys later in my 114th review tomorrow!

Sonic 2 review IgorBird122
Man, who would of though within a year's time since the 1st sonic game, they really put in a whole lot of effort onto this game, the story taken place after the events of the last game, Dr. Robotnik wants to try and take over the world once again and he has captured your furry friends once againYour plan is to try and stop his plans from taking over the world again, this time, Sonic isn't doing it alone, he's brought a sidekick known as Tails. The Graphics:The graphics in this game are just outstanding and with them putting a lot onto the graphics within a year is just amazing, that tells you they really want the Genesis to succeed, and what better to try and succeed with Sega's mascot than with Sonic. The background and foregrounds looks a lot more interesting than in the first gameI give this a 9 out of 10------The Sound/Music:The Music in this game is well done for an early 90's game. In each of the Zones, you have a different tune that goes will with the level you're playing on which to my mind really helps out the player go though the level than without music. As for the sound, not a whole lot changed from the first game, but still, even with that, the sound and music is awesome nonetheless.I give this a perfect 10 out of 10------The Addictiveness:The addiction level is even higher that the last Sonic game, in this game you game a lot of things that makes you want to play this game over again, with all you can possibly do in this game makes you want to keep playing this game like bonus stages, experiencing each of the levels, fighting the boss, and just to name a few other things.I give this a 9 out of 10------The Story:The Story hasn't much changed than from the last game, just with the exception of Tails being added to the story. You're trying to once again and stop Dr. Robotnik plans from taking over the world again.I give this a 6 out of 10------The Depth:They're a lot of new things added onto this game you haven't seen in the last game like new bonus levels, multiple paths, a lot of interesting new features, and a ton of other things. Also, you see a lot of cool and interesting enemies on this game. Plus you got 20 interesting levels or "Acts" to play in and each one are very interesting, Also, this is the first Sonic game with a multiplayer so if you have a friend, you can play with them on this and get a lot more content in the levels.I give this a 9 out of 10------The Difficulty:The Difficulty as a little easier than the first game, but the later levels you play, the harder the game becomes, but once you're used to those levels, the game can be very easy, although some parts of the game can be very difficult. If you're new to Sonic, you might not expect where some enemies because in a few levels, some of then can be hidden and you won't know where they're at till you get hit, but later on when you're used to it, you'll know where they're be at.I give this a 8 out of 10------Overall:Overall, this game is very great to play no matter if you're a hardcore Sonic fan, or someone new to the series, this game right here, Sonic 2 is a very interesting game to play if you haven't already. It's a classic sonic game and it's recommenced to play this if you haven't played this game yetOverall, I give this game a 9.3 out of 10

The Second Sonic Game for the Sega Genesis luigi25
This has been another game I have been wanting to review for an even longer time than my previous review for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Game Gear/Master System. This is the Sega Genesis version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I feel like this game is quite an improvement over the first game. That game on Genesis was a good game, but there are some little touches that make this game even better. For example, Sonic and Tails both go on another quest to stop Dr. Robotnik. This game was released several days after the handheld version in November 1992, and the events of the game take place right after Sonic has rescued Tails from Eggman. Sonic can also do the Spin-Dash in this Sonic game which comes in handy for those slopes you had to backtrack across the level just to get through before.
I got to play this game at the same place I played a lot of video games when I was a kid throughout 1992-94, and that was with 2 of the kids in my neighborhood on their Genesis. I got to play quite a lot of games growing up like: Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3, the 3 Mario Land games on Gameboy, Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars, and even (the last video game of my childhood) Donkey Kong Country.
Sonic was another series I was a big fan of growing up despite never owning any Sonic games. I loved the cartoon that came on afterschool and even the one on Saturday mornings regardless of how dark it was. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Sega Genesis is what got me into the Sonic story in 1993. It was around this time, I wasn't as big on Mario as I once was. I'd have to say Sonic gave Mario some competition, and I feel like that was mainly because of this game.
Graphics 10/10: Graphically, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn't much different from the first Sonic game. Sonic does appear to have more detail to him this time, but it is barely noticeable. This is probably true for the backgrounds as well. Both games are great looking games with one looking just as good as the other one. I don't feel like there is much to say here that I haven't already said about the previous game. This is where the Sega Genesis made some fantastic looking games that were very realistic and animated.
Music 10/10: One thing all 3 of the Sonic games released on the Genesis had in common was their catchy, upbeat music. Sonic 2 is no exception with a soundtrack that is even better than the original game! I said that the graphics were about the same in both games, and I do think the first game had a pretty impressive collection of songs as well. But, I feel like Sonic 2 kind of blows that game away! Just listen to: Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, Mystic Cave, Metropolis, Robotnik's boss theme, the Death Egg theme, and the music for the Final Boss.
Every song is catchy as hell, and so far, this is the best sounding (with exception to Sonic 3) Sonic game in my opinion. I feel like this has got to be the best sounding video game I have played bottom line! I can really jam to about all of the music in this game. It's the quality of the tracks I just talked about in the above paragraph that make the soundtrack so memorable, and it really brings back memories of playing (and watching my friends playing) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at my neighbor's house. These songs have aged extremely well and will always be in my own personal collection of classic video game music.
Gameplay 10/10: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is just like all the other Sonic games. The object is speed, and you have to get through the levels under 10 minutes while avoiding enemies, bottomless pits, spikes, etc. It's all about memorization and takes real skill. Your first time through it, you'll have problems, but if you keep playing, you'll just get better and find yourself getting faster! It is the same idea as before, and this time around, the idea of speed is driven home even more. I like how there are even more opportunities for Sonic to go even faster than he did before. Those levels (like someone on YouTube named Exoparadigm Gamer said) focused more on platforming. This Sonic game focuses more on speed, and though I enjoyed the first game's level design, I like the level design of Sonic 2 even better for several reasons.
Tails can play alongside Sonic for this adventure. However, unlike in Donkey Kong Country, he isn't a part of the game. Tails just tags along with Sonic helping him defeat enemies, get rings, etc. The player is controlling Sonic, and Tails doesn't give you an extra hit. The hit system is the same as before, collecting rings and shield boxes are the only two things that can give Sonic an extra hit. Tails can be helpful, but he can also screw you up and get you killed too. There is a way to play the game solo as just Sonic or Tails, but I usually play as Sonic with Tails tagging along for the journey. This is a change for the better in some ways, but it all depends on a matter of taste. Some players might just want to play solo, while others would like the idea of bringing along Tails for the journey.
Another mechanism that is a big improvement over the first game is the addition of the Spin-Dash. This can be done by holding down the Jump Button and pressing Down. Sonic spins in place until you let go, shooting him forward killing everything in his path, flying up hills, etc. You no longer had to backtrack in order to get up the hills like in the previous game, and now, Sonic can get through many of these levels even faster than he could before. This is what makes Sonic 2 a big improvement over Sonic 1 and the other 2 Game Gear games! It gives the player even more of a chance to go fast which also goes great with the design of areas like: Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, and several other stages. This Sonic game is really built on speed but not without getting familiar with the layout of the stages first.
Anyway, the Special Stages work differently this time, but they are still optional. This is where the 7 Chaos Emeralds are located which turn Sonic into Super Sonic. In the first game, this was the only way to earn continues, but this time, the game is more generous by giving you continues when you score a certain number of points at the end of each stage. In order to get in a Special Stage you have to get to a checkpoint with 50 rings and jump up into the swirling cloud of stars that appears after you hit the checkpoint. Once you enter the area, Sonic and Tails are running down a race track containing rings and black balls.
The object is to collect a certain number of rings before Sonic and Tails reach a certain part of the track. If Sonic or Tails hits a black ball, you lose some of the rings you have collected which you need for the next part. If you fail to get the required amount of rings, you'll be ejected from the Special Stage with no rings, no Emerald, and no chance to try again. The stages are pretty hard, and you're very unlikely to get all 7 Emeralds unless you are very experienced with this game or are an expert. The Special Stages are worth doing, but I don't go out of my way to find every checkpoint in each stage so I can play them. However, I do like the concept of Super Sonic, but most players have never gotten him.
Super Sonic is invisible, and the music changes during this part to another cool musical number that really rocks hard! Super Sonic is no doubt worth it if you can get him because he is invisible destroying everything in his path, and he also can run faster than normal Sonic. You do get a little bit better ending by collecting the Emeralds as well. Even without the Special Stages, Sonic 2 (in my opinion) has better level design. That game did have areas like Green Hill Zone that had an upper and lower routes. Here, you get this again on even more zones like: Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin (mainly), Hill Top Zone, and Oil Ocean.
Some reviewers on YouTube, like Exoparadigm Gamer, have criticized Sonic 2 for having stages with multiple pathways. I happen to disagree and really like this concept, and it's what makes Sonic 2 even better than Sonic 1. I loved how Sega carried out this idea in Aquatic Ruin, an area Exo criticized the most. I enjoyed how the layout of this zone was split up into the: land section that looked like something out of ancient Rome or Greece, and the underwater section which was made to look a lot like the underwater ruins of Atlantis. I guess it's a matter of taste with how gamers like their levels which he did talk about too.
Multiple pathways in level design give players more opportunities for exploration in my opinion, and they seem to give players more opportunities to go fast in this Sonic game after they have become familiar with the layout of these stages. I like the new level design in Sonic 2. I found Sonic 1's level design to be kind of boring with no real surprises and not much incentive to go for the Special Stages either. Those levels were all about the level themes and concepts. That part of the stage layout is driven home even more this time but with: more speed, more exciting levels that do more than your typical platformer, and Special Stages that, despite all their problems, do give players more of an incentive to play them. All of these new touches make an already exciting game like Sonic 1 even more exciting and rewarding!
Story 8/10: The story for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 takes place right after the events of the handheld Sonic 2. Sonic has just rescued Tails from Dr. Robotnik, but Robotnik returns and tries to take over West Island and kidnaps Sonic's animal friends again which he plans on robotizing. He has also been building a new station in Outer Space called the Death Egg. He plans on ruling the whole world from this satellite above the Earth. He has also created a deadly robot clone of Sonic called Metal Sonic. Sonic and Tails go on a journey together to stop the mad scientist from world domination and destroy the Death Egg along with Metal Sonic.
The storyline for Sonic 2 is about the same as the first game but with some welcome additions. It brings Tails along for his first playable debut. Dr. Robotnik is trying to take over not only West Island but also the world in this Sonic sequel. Sonic and Tails travel though the West Island to stop him. In the end, Sonic has to travel into Outer Space with the help of Tails and his airplane. The plot isn't all that original, but giving Sonic a sidekick was a great idea. So was giving Robotnik his own giant eggmobile in Outer Space with an evil clone of Sonic! You get a plot that isn't all that creative but does build on the ideas from the previous Sonic game.
Depth 8/10: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis is a little bit longer than the first game taking a little over an hour to complete for experienced players. It consists of: Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, Casino Night, Hill Top Zone, Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, Metropolis Zone, Sky Chase, Winged Fortress, and the final Death Egg Zone. This game is a good lengthy game with a decent amount of content that never gets old or boring. All the zones in Sonic 1 had their own different themes, but these zones are even more creative and better. Especially, the Death Egg Zone.
Difficulty 8/10: Sonic 2 for the Genesis is a little trickier game than the first game was. However, this game is more generous with extra lives and continues than the previous game. I like how players no longer have to enter the Special Stages to earn continues. They are just rewarded to you whenever you finish a level with a certain score. I feel like the difficulty is pretty balanced, but it is harder for first time players than Sonic 1. It is less forgiving in some ways with the stage design which really punishes you for going fast if you don't know what you're doing. This is especially true for some of the later areas.
One of those areas is Metropolis. Some enemies are impossible to avoid, and there is almost no way to make it through this part without losing a bunch of lives. This zone and Oil Ocean is hard to find your way around also. I remember being stuck on these two zones quite a few times and running out of time because I didn't know where to go. The Death Egg Zone was a joke my first time playing it. There are no rings here, if you take damage, you're dead, and you'll have to restart the whole area again. You'll have to beat Metal Sonic again before you can get another chance to fight Eggman and beat the game.
By this time, you usually are pretty stocked up with lives and continues, and you need them here most in order to get used to the pattern of Metal Sonic and Eggman. With Metal Sonic, you have to jump into the side of him. If you jump on top of him, you'll die! I didn't like this section, and is one part of the game that is badly designed for beginners. How can you jump into the side of him your first time playing this? With Eggman, you have to figure out where to hit him without dying. My advice, just watch YouTube videos! I think this game is very playable, but it took me a while to beat it. It took quite a few playthroughs to get good at this game, but once I did, it was a very fun experience that was even more enjoyable than the first game.
Overall 9.2/10: To wrap it up, this had been a long review, but Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis is a very good game! It is quite an improvement over the first game in a lot of areas. That was a good game too, no doubt, but Sega was still experimenting with the character and just starting a new series. By this time, they were kicking things into high gear along with 2 new cartoon series based mainly off of this game. Steve Urkel brought Sonic to life, and everytime I play the Sonic games, I think of him! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the Sonic game that gave Mario some stiff competition, and the two characters were going head to head around this time. Honestly, I still can't decide who I liked better.

Forever a classic. uiopop
Sonic The Hedgehog 1, released in 1991, is what started the long lasting war between the Mario series and the Sonic series. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, however, is what really made the war official. The game was such a success that people consider it the Super Mario World of the Sonic series. (Which is to say its the best in the series. Lets find out what makes the game so great!
The graphics are pretty much the same from the original game, save a few sprite changes. However these graphics are just as awesome and cool as they were originally. Not only is this a good move, it actually helps improve the game in a few instances, so that just makes the game all the more awesome.
The music is not only Awesome like in Super Mario World, but here the music is actually themed for the levels! This IS featured in other Sonic games, but its done best here. Take Mystic Cave, for example, the music there is a creepy, eerie theme that maintains its theme throughout the entire song. Mow look at another cave level, Lava Reef act 2 from S&K, it does have an eerie tone, but the rest of the song seems it would better suit the final level due to its atmosphere.
The story is a REALLY underrated story. A lot of people accuse the story for lack of depth and its simplicity. For the depth, the story actually as a really deep story, but you have to look really deep in return. The main plot is that Dr. Egg man has kidnapped the animals of west island and is using them to power his robots. It represents the people who were kidnapped by governments during wars and forced to serve as army men. That is deep.
The games Difficulty depends on how good you are at the series as a whole. If your good, this game will be no problem, if however you suck, then the game gets a lot harder. Yes, that's all there is to say about the difficulty.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is a beloved classic treasured by many that will be compared with games like Super Mario World for quiet some time. As because of that and the reasons discussed above I give it high ratings on nearly every category. ( Things about the game that were not discussed about the game were left out because they are pretty self explanatory.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Totts
A world enslaved. The inhabitants... subject to a malicious Emperor. And there is only a hope, Sonic the Hedgehog. But this time he is not alone. He brings with him a new contender. The cute, double-tailed Fox of tails. Together, they consider the battle against the nasty ruler Robotnik to finally put an end to his reign of terror.
Sonic 2 is the first real highlight of the Sonic saga. At least as regards the Mega Drive/Genesis. Here, the developers bring a new character in the game. Tails the Fox. Externally, it offers a stark contrast to the main character. While Sonic rather cool, a little harsh and unapproachable, tails presents more cute and dainty. Sonic offers 2 different characters. The player can choose to which of the two figures he want to end the reign of the Bösewichtes Robotnik prefer.
Now we'll come to the technical side. Sound and graphics wise the songs are in this part still not as good as in the later Sonic games, but good match each level. The typical Sonic sounds that appear when moving character, are of course also and fans of the series will immediately feel in their element.
Now on optics. Is that at it's best! Well, nowadays of course obsolete, but just great for the former situation. Sonic and tails must here: run through the various level types and with each new Act there is to see something new. Whether in an underground mine, deserted ruins or in the air on a battleship, Sonic 2 offers graphically very many beautiful ideas. In the eye should even the great 3D-Bonus-Levels. Here the technology goes further even large. And this without the graphic looks horribly. Very nicely done.
Now to the gameplay. There is some new. There is the revolutionary spin attack. With the heroes with ease from scratch, can conjure an insane speed. The player can stomp nasty opponents into the ground without effort or give just gas speed over the countryside. Otherwise the game principle is the same. The player must collect rings. Sonic or tails lose all their rings after an attack, the relevant character when the next enemy contact will die. Be played may as Sonic, tails or Sonic and tails. Sonic 2 offered the opportunity for the first time mode for two through the game in single player. When you play as Sonic and tails, a second player can play the role of Fox. This quickly runs out of the screen because the camera always on Sonic, and has no real life, but thanks to his invincibility in the game absolutely not to despise, and a good player pays well mainly due to higher levels. No second player with be part of the game, the computer assumes the role of tails, where only the movements of Sonic quasi delayed mimics the CPU. Would otherwise be there on the subject of gameplay to mention the bonus levels. These sonic must earn one as mentioned very respectable 3D world, a certain number of rings to get chaos emeralds in the end all. Sonic found all 7 emeralds, he can become, as known from Sonic 1: Super Sonic.
For those who prefer to battle against each other instead of playing together, there is also a brilliant versus mode offered in Sonic 2 in addition to the normal play mode. In 4 different levels, you must now rush in a split screen through the levels and earn points. Who earns more points wins. Counted who faster goal comes, but also collected for example who defeated more monsters or more rings is not only. Because there is always something new to discover the huge level sections, this game mode especially for equally strong players is always entertaining.
There is a one point of criticism in this part of the series. You cannot save. And the massive number of levels, the increasing level of difficulty and the serious bonus missions are fast exasperating close. However this point is only slightly significant. Then you have this great part just three to four times play until you shoot from the "death egg" Dr. Robotnik. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was and still is a revolution of the platform genres and who does not know this part of the Sonic series, does not know that this represents a climax of the console's history.

Zooming to the Genesis pacman1755
Sonic 2 is one of those games that instantly makes you a Sonic fan, the debut of Miles "Tails" Prower and this is my favorite Sonic game of all time, now off to the review. The difficulty of the game is like most games, gets harder as you progress, but this game is actually pretty hard in the end, mostly the final boss. The Depth is short, just get to the right of the screen and zoom pass the eggman sign. The story is basically every other sonic game, save the world from Robotnik before it is too late. Addictiveness is pretty high on the charts, once you start playing, you wont stop. Sound is awesome, again, mostly the credit goes to the music, it is pretty legendary. Graphics are pretty standard for a 2D 16 bit game, but it does have variety. Overall this game is awesome and I love to play it any time, so go to RGR and start playing now!
Happy Gaming! :)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ross4587
Sonic 2 follows on from the huge success of Sonic 1, but this game is bigger and better. Sonic is not alone this time, as he now has a new friend accompanying him, Miles Prower the two-tailed fox, better known as Tails, so Sonic's journey won't be as lonely-felt as in Sonic 1. Tails will pitch in and help defeat the robot animals transformed by Dr. Eggman, who again is after the Chaos Emeralds to power his Death Egg, leading to his ever-familiar plan for World Domination. Clearly, the mad scientist hasn't learned from his failures from Sonic 1, but will go to incredible lengths to try and get his wish, so its up to Sonic and Tails to try and defeat him once again. Zones, of which there are now more, will have two levels instead of three, with the exception of one zone where there is three, and more tougher robot enemies will guard the zones trying to get in the way of Sonic and Tails. Rings are collected like before, with Sonic losing all rings when damage is taken, and a life if damage is taken with no rings. A life is given for every 100 rings collected. Television boxes will give him special items or powers, even if some are only for a short time. Star posts during a level mean checkpoints, but go through one with 50 rings and a star wave circles above it. Go through it to access a special stage. Winning a special stage by meeting ring requirements in phases will lead to Chaos Emeralds, and there are now 7 to collect instead of the six in Sonic 1. Also, Super Transformation has now been introduced, meaning all Chaos Emeralds and 50 rings collected will activate Sonic in his Super form, should the player wish, making him more powerful and invincible until he runs out of rings. That can be very useful for the boss battles with Eggman at the end of every zone, with battles now more difficult. Overall, this game is considered to be a significant upgrade in terms of content, features, sound and depth in comparison to Sonic 1, and Tails will go on to become an even more prominent figure in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, acting as Sonic's sidekick.

Sonic The hedgehog 2 review by 98Gamingstar 98Gamingstar
This is a review on Sonic The hedgehog 2. ENJOY!!!
-Graphics-
The graphics are the same as the other Sonic genesis games. But just so I clear this up : I like the sprites, I think they look good for a old, classic game like this. I think maybe they could be touched up on but apart from that, they are really good. I also think the badnik sprites like quite good as well. Like when one is moving, it really does look good. The set pieces also do look good.
-Sound-
The sound fits the game quite well. But maybe they could make it sound a little better.
-Addictiveness-
This game to me is VERY addicting, I've played this game non stop many times. But I have to say, there are some hard bits that may cause you to give up. Im only saying what I think so dont have a go at me.
-Story-
The story is more or less the same as the original Sonic the hedgehog. Only thing that is not the same is that Sonic somehow runs into a orange fox and befriends him or something.
-Depth-
The game does not have much depth. The game is not that big and might maybe take you a few hours at the most to complete. The game offers the same features as before but has a bit more special stages and stuff.
-Difficulty-
The game is not that hard to beat. It might take you a few hours and there might be hard stuff but apart from that. You should be able to complete this game pretty easy...
I hope you liked reading my review. Let me know what you think and what game I should review next!

best C.sonic game made dumlink23
Graphics-8
yep pretty ok and quite colorful and bright even if theres a sinister scientist destroying life u just cant not look at the beautiful background and all the bright colors of each level...
Sound-9
9 because theres alot of music in this game that people would pick as amazing soundtrack and when u try to insert cheats u need to listen for a detailed sound like if u want super sonic its 04,01,02,06 then listen for emerald sound stuff like that
Addictiveness-10
you will most likely be coming back to sonic 2 alot in your carreer of games mostly since its so much fun to test your skills in special stages or maybe just try and beat your highest score
Story-its kinda a shallow story compared to the rest of the series except sonic 1 and 3D blast - eggman(hes always been eggman in japan if u didnt know that) has returned to rid the world of all the fuzzy animals and bright colors.meanwhile sonic running to stop him meets Miles Prower or "Tails" as he has been called by sonic because he has fallen into the chemicals in chemical plant zone and been mutated and can now fly with 2 tails.so sonic and tails set out to stop eggman and collect the chaos emeralds!
Depth-8
not that long of a game but if your collectiong chaos emeralds then u will find it rewarding and u will see it holds MANY secrets aka cheats
Difficulty-7
yes this isnt a very hard game thanks to the new Spindash move or super sonic spin! from sonic archie and SatAM.
Overall-9.9
this is possibly the best sonic game made and ALOT of you will agree its best classic sonic game made and sonic adventure 2 may be best modern i hoped u enjoyed this reveiw.

The blue blur shows the plumber whos boss noobpwner59
Sonic 2 is one of my all time favorites, and with good reason. This game was probably the reason most people bought a Genesis, it is absolutely amazing. Everything about this game is well made and very fun, now to get into detail.
Graphics: The graphics are very colorful and vibrant, the sprites look goods, and the animation looks great. The game also has 3d-ish special stages, which also looks great. The graphics are not the best I've seen on the Genesis (that would be sonic 3&k) but they are still great and beautiful compared to most games on the system. 9/10
Sound: The soundtrack is very good. Each song fits the levels well, and are very enjoyable to listen to. The sound fx are also great for a 16 bit system. It is considered one of the best sonic soundtracks, and with good reason. 9/10
Gameplay, design, and addictiveness: The game is a very basic 2d platformer, all the buttons do one thing jump, but one thing it does that Nintendon't (sorry, couldn't resist) is the speed. The game has amazing physics that allows the speed to go up, when sonic does something like goes down a slope, sometimes causing him to even fly right off the screen. The game is very fast paced, and most importantly; fun. The design is also fantastic, it has a near perfect balance of platforming and speed, a balance that newer sonic games seem to miss. The team that made this was extremely talented and did a amazing job. This game is fun to play, and you will want to play this way more than once. 10/10
Story: There isn't enough story to rate, it is basically Robotnick turned animals into robots and made a death egg, that is it. na/10
Depth: The game isn't very long, 8 worlds, with 2 stages each (except the last) and a final stage. The game takes a little over 2 hours to beat, but newbies probably won't beat it the first time (without save states anyway), and even if you do beat it, it never seems to get old, I have probably played it more than a hundred times, and I still enjoy playing it, it has some of the best replay value ever. The multiplayer is also pretty fun, not as good as singleplayer though. I can't give it a ten, due to its length, the multiplayer and replay value more than justify a nine. 9/10
Difficulty: The game can be a little tough at first, it gets easier the more you play it. The game stays at a good pace, never spiking in difficulty. The bosses are pretty easy, the levels have a good difficulty. It is a good difficulty level for any type of gamer, even a child can beat it with enough practice, it is never too hard or too easy. 7/10
Overall: This game is one of my favorites, it is extremely fun, and has almost no bad points at all. Everything in this game is amazing, probably the most fun you can have on the Genesis. I know this isn't the average, but I cannot give it anything less. 10/10
A must play

Cult hit on Sega evilcon09
yo everyone welcome to the review of sonic 2 the masterpiece in the genesis/megadrive so let dive into the details for this game before the review
Backstory: not long after the original sonic game come out this game was in development with all new zones some are not even in final game cause of the prototype build was stolen at a new york showing sometime before the game come out that meant (no hidden place in this build until hacks, and the official mobile for ios and android made by whitehead) how ever the game showed of a new character who later became tails in a contest (shame i was born a year later) The game has a new move for both sonic and tails known as the spin dash (since that was never in the 1st game) so the game came on Tuesday 24th of November of 1992 and became a best seller of all time on the system
story for the game: not to long after the events of the original game sonic heads to south island in hopes to find robornik (eggman) however sonic met our 2 tailed hero tails while he's fixing sonic's plane and sonic allowed tails to join him (shame his mum and dad are never in the games heck not even sonic's mum or dad ether mystery time) but how ever robotnik knows where the 7th chaos emerald (since the 7th one was sealed away from everyone in fear someone could be invincible explains the 6 chaos emeralds are only present in the 1st game only) to fuel his deadly warship Death egg (ripoff to death star) sonic and tails must stop him at all costs
the game play: game play is like the original game on where the player reaches to the end goal along the way bad nicks will try to hinder sonic and tails. So tails can be played with a friend or solo how ever tails wont be granted a super form when all emeralds are collected. speaking of the emeralds to get them have 50 rings and head to a checkpoint to trigger the special stage the rule is to get the rings as the game asks don't get the necessary rings no emerald for you its too easy to get them all in emerald hill zone and if u know where the rings are since the system limitations cant see ahead (genesis only but more visible on ios and android versions) good luck for the emeralds. after a second act you get a boss battle with robotnik they kinda easy to beat some of them there's exploits to do that on some of them until the metropolis zone which has 3 acts then followed by sky chase then wing fortress then death egg (by far the hardest stage in the game no rings stay on your toes at all times with mecha sonic and death egg robot most the death egg robot) also this game had multiplayer modes co op or race each other/collect rings if the special stages are picked
music: the music in this game is amazing well fitted into each zone by my picks are the boss battles and the title music and the ending song sorry there not much else to be said with the music
lasting impressions this game is by far amazing game on the system now there many ways to play it these days like on the xbox, psn collections released on those two system, mobile, wii, pc it still holds upto this day and future gamers as well i hope you guys enjoy this review till then take care and happy gaming aktung baby

The Rise of Super Sonic becerra95
Another classic for today. Story time. Over a decade ago I got a plug n play Sega machine which had Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik mean bean machine. I used to play it so much until the batteries died since it didn’t used an adapter to plug in the outlet. Two of the games I played the most was Dr. Robotnik and Sonic 2. Just like the original sonic the hedgehog game I didn’t play the actual cartridge of sonic 2 until years later when I got the games at a garage sale and I’m proud to present this review. Sonic the hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis. Story: 8
Dr. Robotnik has returned to capture the chaos emeralds to dominate the world for his nefarious purposes. Taking animals as hostages and turning them into robot minions once again, creating an egg shaped space station and placing obstacles against his nemesis, it’s up to Sonic the Hedgehog and his new pal Miles “Tails” Prower to stop the evil doctor and save the planet from his evil plans.
The story is basically the same as the first game but with higher stakes and a new partner. Nothing new but it’s still a pretty straightforward story. I wouldn’t call it dull but hopefully Sega wouldn’t be rehashing this plot. A good 8 out of 10.
Graphics: 8
The visuals are a great update to the previous game. The palettes are more colorful, sonic seems more well done, the stages and enemies are quite detailed for its time. Everything about it just looks marvelous. From the colorful green scenery of Emerald Hill zone to the more dark hues of mystic caves.
The thing that got me was the special stages. Pseudo 3D graphics and collecting rings in a half pipe is an amazing idea to get the chaos emeralds. This was mind blowing that the Sega Genesis could handle that kind of graphics in 1992. Simply gorgeous.
For a Sega Genesis game for 1992, this is quite beautiful. A solid 8 out of 10.
Sound: 9
The soundtrack is a classic. From the upbeat cheery sound of stage 1 to a more rock n roll from chemical plant or even a dark rock tone of mystic cave, the music is one of my favorites from the series. The sound effects of the game are pretty good, nothing too annoying or scratchy. No muffled sounds or missing bits here and there. Going to the sound test you can easily analyze each song and sound effect the game has to offer and was surprised that there were some unused songs. Track 10 is unused (confirmed to be hidden palace from developers and all.) Also, there is a very scratchy Sega start up sounding like it’s meant for the Master system, Sega’s last gen console of the time. Overall the rating is a blossoming 9 out of 10.
Depth: 7
The game has a few updates. Sonic can now spin dash his way through the levels. The levels don’t feel dragged out and has a bit of enemies in each zone which is welcoming. The variety of each stage keeps you on your toes and allows a trial and error making the game’s replayability welcoming. Instead of having three zones per stage they reduced it to only two zones per stage (except metropolis. Final three stages only consists of one zone). To me that’s a better deal to great more environments for the game.
The biggest introduction of the game is… SUPER SONIC! Collecting emeralds actually have its merits this game. With one new emerald added to the game, collecting all seven will not only grant you the good ending of the game, but also super sonic after collecting fifty rings.
Other than the campaign the game also offers a simple multiplayer vs mode. Three stages being races and the last one is collecting the most rings in a special stage, it’s not much but it’s honest work.
One nitpick though is metropolis zone. Only zone I felt is dragged out by the nuts and bolts. Then the cheap deaths or loss of rings from enemy placement is also an issue. Another is Sky Chase zone…. Nothing special just stuck on a plane jumping at enemies… boring pace.
Overall it’s a 7 out of 10.
Addictive: 8
The game like any other sonic game, is addicting. It’s a trial and error game, learning how to platform through the zones and finding ways to finish the game. Super sonic gives the game a bit more variety to completing zones but… with the game being fun and all the first few times it lacked some fun, but what kept me playing the game for a bit longer was the debug mode. Messing around with the cheat for hours and enjoying the bugged out zones. The multiplayer is nothing special, just against two players and nothing else.
Addictive is 8 out of 10 with debug mode set on after completing the game.
Difficulty: 8
The game itself balanced itself with difficulty with traps and enemy placements instead of long dragged out levels (except metropolis but already mentioned). The special zones aren’t that hard but again, the main issue is obstacles that will prevent you from collecting the required rings to get the chaos emerald.
The last few stages is what the difficulty becomes less tolerable. (Spoilers) from up in the sky jumping from alternating platforms that come in and out every few seconds on death wing zone or battling the final boss with no rings… it takes a bit of trial and error to get the hand of it and finally beat the game and be satisfied of the ending, whether you collected all the emeralds or not.
The difficulty is a good 8/10.
Overall the game was one of the sonic games I played so much during my youth. It’s a good classic game and honestly made the franchise proud being the sequel to the first sonic game. With the edition of super sonic, an ongoing story and a new character, it helps build the world of sonic the hedgehog and what will become for years to come. For a Sega Genesis game, this helped make the console be more relevant for its time vs the Super Nintendo.
Next time I’ll review another sonic game but for now here’s the rating

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Finally Worthy of His Name janus
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, along with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, was the very first “real” video game I ever owned – I don’t include Coleco or pre-DOS computer games. Despite my lack of dexterity in the Chemical Plant, which I could never go through on my own, the game was still enjoyable.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are a nice improvement from Sonic the Hedgehog 1. They are more colorful and better-drawn. The backgrounds have better drawings that Sonic 1 and sometimes have “moving” backgrounds (street lights in Casino Night and clouds in Hill Top, among others).
At last, Sonic deserves his name with the introduction of the spin dash, which helps him pick up a lot of speed. Unlike Sonic 1, this little improvement can help reach “sonic speeds” with a simple tap of your controller (down+jump). Before that you could only reach those speeds when you were running fast enough/ going down tunnels or loops. In fact, your speed is sometimes such that YOU move faster than the screen, which can be annoying when you want to avoid spikes or getting squished.
The main characters are also well-drawn; Sonic’s blue color looks more authentic and his signs of impatience are even more elaborate than in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – he lies down on the group tapping his fingers in boredom. The game also features the introduction of a new character: Miles Prower (get it?), a.k.a. Tails. His tails do show up clearly and his and Sonic’s move are very fluid. Slight downside: he only has one lack-of-balance animation, whereas Sonic has three. He also simply cries when he waits for too long.
Finally, the enemies are also better-moving and better-drawn. The piranha fish jump up and down at a regular pace, the “blue blurb” inside Chemical Plant can be a challenge to avoid and the flying enemies in Sky Chase are flying/floating as they should – the “thunderbirds” can even surprise you sometimes. They also come with more defense: you will get hurt if you try jumping of the “fireflies” in Mystic Cave when they light up or if you’re not careful enough with the grasshoppers throwing their blades or with the exploding star fish in Metropolis.
Robotnik’s designs are also very varied. From a tank with a spike to a few floating machines that hit columns spewing arrows or white fire, he will be quite a challenge. His final form is impressively big for Genesis graphs – I though the design was better than the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (with the claw hands). It moved realistically slow, showing Robotnik’s difficulty to maneuver such a huge machine.
However, the graphics are lagging, especially in the two-player vs option. You will often find yourself walking at a much slower pace because the chip couldn't’t handle that much data. The same thing goes for the special stage. Yes, they are in fully 3-D half-pipes that show quite an advance in graphics. But as with the 2-player option, there can be lags which turns to be very frustrating when you try avoiding those circular mines popping here and there.
Music: 10/10
Despite graphics in need of improvement, the music is excellent.
Each one of the zones has a distinctive track that I feel is appropriate. Emerald Hill reflects the beauty of the hills, Chemical Plant is more high-tech sounding, Aquatic Ruin sounds majestic and superior to Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 and Casino Night’s ambiance adds to the neons sparkling around, better than Spring Yard. Hill Top has a strangely groovy theme that’s an improvement from Marble Zone, Mystic Cave sounds like a horror-movie theme, Oil Ocean reflects the desolation around, Metropolis sounds like it’s using pistons in its track, Sky Chase sounds very relaxing – as if you were floating, Wing Fortress sounds very military and epic, and the Death Egg (although you don’t hear much of it in the game) sounds even more dramatic than the MC.
Finally, the Special Stage sounds much more “racy” than the dreamy music from the Special Stage in Sonic 1 and the Hidden Palace (available through the sound test) has a mysterious/magic beat I just can’t get enough of. Robotnik’s theme sounds more dramatic and military, and his final form, although not as good as Sonic the Hedgehog 3, sounds better than the Final Zone (which sounded too dramatic for my taste).
Sound effects are also better and more varied than Sonic 1 (you can even hear them all in the sound test). The spin dash sounds like real acceleration, the “blue blurb” has a goofy transfer sound, the various bouncing “things” inside Casino Night all have different bouncy sounds (and the slot machine sounds like a real one) and the breaking bridges inside Mystic Cave sound like they are truly crumbling. Finally, Oil Ocean features realistic metal clinging and a, er, bouncing green top with a sound different from regular springs.
Oh, and the 2-player vs mode play different tracks. They are lighter, less dramatic (especially for Mystic Cave). I thought Casino Night sounds better there.
Addictiveness: 8/10
Despite its difficulty (see below), Sonic 2 still got many features that hooked you to the game.
My favorite one was the 2-player vs mode. Despite the lag, I enjoyed playing around Emerald Hill, Casino Night and Mystic Cave and try to beat my opponent. And should there be a tie after both acts, you go down the half-pipe Special Stages (the same ones where you get the emeralds) – who’s in front DOES matter this time.
The two-player option in regular gameplay was also a big plus since some bosses like Metropolis can be hard without a little help.
Finally, as a video game music freak – I have over 1600 tracks – I enjoyed the sound test, which can be accessed at any time.
And since I had such a hard time going through Chemical Plant, I enjoyed the classical cheat code allowing the choice or your starting level. You could even go through special stages and accumulate them by simply resetting the console; you could also enter a Super Sonic code and start at Emerald Hill with your powers.
Story: 5/10
Yes, I put that feature here because finally Sonic 2 shows (only towards the end, but still) zones that follow each other rather than regular zones coming in succession without any link between them whatsoever. Starting from Sky Chase and until of the end of Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic’s adventure is just one long, continuous zone.
After pursuing Robotnik in the Sky Chase, Sonic narrowly jumps on the Flying Fortress after Tails’ plane got hit by laser beam. After foiling the evil doctor’s plan, Sonic chases Robotnik’s spaceship thanks to Tails’ newly repaired plane. He finds a grip on the spaceship, which lands at Robotnik’s doomsday weapon: the Death Egg, which is fueled by the Chaos Emeralds Sonic collected. Fortunately, Sonic is able to stop the machine, which then crashes on the Floating Island.
Depth: 8/10
The zones are very massive. Not only are there one-ups everywhere (and well-hidden), there are also hard-to-reach lampposts where you can access the Special Stages if you have 50 rings. In zones like Chemical Plant and Metropolis, there are various roads you can take. Even though they ultimately lead towards the end of the act, some can prove to be much more challenging. Should you play with Knuckles, you will have access to even MORE hidden spots thanks to his gliding/wall-climbing ability; you will also be able to better avoid those holes.
Also, the Chaos Emeralds are finally an integral part of the plot. Collecting them all is not merely a supplementary challenge you do for fun as in Sonic 1 or the Sonic games for Game Gear. Getting those means you become Super Sonic, i.e. invincible to enemy attacks as long as you have rings fueling your powers. Getting them all (with Sonic at least) will create a slightly different ending; you will also see Robotnik getting mad if you succeed in getting all the emeralds.
Difficulty: 9/10
This is the part that made me abandon the game early on.
In Chemical Plant Act 2, there are moving platforms on water I could NEVER go over without falling back into the water until about 3 years ago. After many tries, I dropped the game when my big sister couldn't’t help me get through.
And even after I got through CP, the other zones weren’t much easier. Aquatic Ruins is mostly underwater, considerably slowing your movements and stressing you out to find air bubbles to breathe. You absolutely need to find an Invincibility box in Hill Top to avoid the boiling lava that tries to trap you. The Wing Fortress, unless you are Super Sonic, is excessively challenging with its numerous gaps you must jump over – there are alternating platforms you need to synchronize your jumping with. Finally, you can’t get ANY rings inside Death Egg. While the Metal Sonic can be beaten, Robotnik’s final form is a nightmare.
In addition, when you get in a Special Stage (it doesn’t matter if you get the emerald or not), you return to your original zone without ANY rings – fortunately it was corrected with Knuckles the Echidnae in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (although he loses his shield too). And if you play Tails solo, getting the emeralds makes no difference in your appearance which I thought sucked.
However, playing with someone else can truly help especially against Robotnik. Since Tails can’t die – he respaws if he gets squished/drowns – you can have someone else take the lead against the Big Boss or difficult enemies. It was very useful for the Metropolis boss with its swirling bubbles on himself protecting him.
So if you don’t mind hard challenges but like colorful graphics, huge zones and addictive music, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the game for you. Make sure you enable a second player so the game is a little easier. Also make sure that this player has good dexterity since Tails’ rings do count in Special Stages; if he loses too many you will fail.

Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis) Review DrakPokeMaster
Alright, so today I'm going to be reviewing Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. This is my first review, so feel free to leave feedback; it's very much appreciated.
Graphics - 10
16-bit graphics, for the most part, always look pretty good, but Sonic 2's use of the Sega Genesis' capabilities makes for a very beautiful looking game that holds up well even today. From the lush green fields and cliffsides of Emerald Hill Zone to the industrial mechanics of the Metropolis Zone, this game looks so crisp and eye-pleasing. Everything pops out with color, and leaves players wide-eyed as they view them.
The animations are very fluid and move together very well. Rarely did I encounter a moment in which there was a single bit of lag (if I ever did). Compared to other games on the console, this game's graphics tend to hold up the best. A gamer could easily feel how much work was put into them to look as brilliant and as eye-catching as they are.
Sound - 10
The compositions of any Sonic game are known for being amazing. No matter the quality of the Sonic game, the music almost always sounds extraordinary and dynamic. In this game, the same is true. Each song fits the levels that they are assigned to very well. Emerald Hill Zone, being the lush green and natural sort of level, has an upbeat and bubbly kind of track playing as you speed through collecting rings and destroying robots. Chemical Plant Zone has a techno/rock sort of theme to it, which helps the gamer to picture the setting of an industrial wasteland of a city, filled with dangerous chemicals and fluids, into their mind.
A level taking place on a flying battleship piloted by the main villain? A song that sounds like a war anthem, of course, would be fitting for such a level as Winged Fortress Zone. The music in this game compared to other games sounds like it had tons of work put into it, and it has that special feel to its compositions that many other games wish they had.
Addictiveness - 9
This game has many different things you could do. You could try to beat levels as fast as you could, try to get the highest score that you could, or collect tons of rings and jump into the ring of stars around a checkpoint to go to a Special Stage, in which you can get the mystical Chaos Emeralds to unlock Super Sonic, which is a powered up form of Sonic you can activate by collecting 50 rings and jumping (note that this also unlocks the true ending). No matter what you like to do in this game, you'll constantly find yourself going back to play this game again and again to do all of these things to the best of your ability.
Story - Blank
This game has a story, but it's really just an excuse plot written into the manual. Basically, Dr. Robotnik, an evil scientist and Sonic's arch enemy, is trapping animals into robots to power them again, but this time he's come armed with a huge fortress called the Death Egg, which he launched into space. He plans to use it to take over the world (as most evil scientists tend to do). While this plot seems OK, it's really only there to give you a greater goal in this game. The main focus of Sonic 2 is its fast paced gameplay, so a story isn't really a necessity in this case.
Depth - 7
There are a lot of different things you can do in Sonic 2. From beating levels as fast as you can and getting a high score, to slowing down and taking in the beautiful scenery around you and checking out all the various pathways and collectables, such as rings, shields, and Chaos Emeralds. This is all very fun, but as expected from a 2D platformer from 1992, there isn't much else to it, so a 7 is a good rating for a game from its time. While there were games with more to do in them back then, this game still had plenty within it to do and explore.
Difficulty - 7
The controls of Sonic 2 are very easy to pick up. Run left or right, jump, hold down and use the jump button to do a spindash, jump on enemies to kill them, avoid traps and obstacles, and get to the end of the level. Typical platformer logic for the most part, only 3 times as fast! This game (of course with a name and a character like Sonic) moves at a very fast pace, calling for quick reflexes and skill, especially in later levels like Metropolis Zone.
The most difficult part of the game is most likely the 2 final bosses of this game, which you must fight without rings, which are your source of life in this game. As long as you can keep one with you at all times, you're fine, but in the final level, Death Egg Zone, there aren't any to speak of. This means getting hit once means you lose a life, so the final level definitely puts the player's skills to the test as they storm through Dr. Robotnik's space fortress destroying everything in their path. This game demands your complete attention to do well and succeed in your endeavors, earning this game's difficulty a 7/10, with much of it coming from the aforementioned final level.
Overall - 8.4
This game offers a lot in terms of entertainment, addictiveness, and difficulty. To anyone looking for a fun yet challenging experience, then this game is for you. It's fast paced, adrenaline pumping gameplay will keep the player on the edge of their seat as they overcome Zone after Zone of this Sega Genesis classic.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 get's an 8.4 for its fantastic settings, dynamic and upbeat music tracks, fun and fast paced gameplay, and the multitude of ways for the gamer to play the game. It is a must-play for any retro gamer out there.

One of my favorite 2d games GOLDMACNCHEEZ
I have loved this game since the first time I played it.It kept me entertained with its bright colors catchy themes and fast game play.I love to relax and play this game .There isn't much to the story but you can't expect to much from a games story around this time. The game isn't to long if your good at it but you can increase the time you play by a bit more if you challenge yourself to collect all of the chaos emeralds. If you have played through the game just once it's definitely a lot easier, but I seem to start having trouble on the last few zones and the final boss, and all the way up to the last few zones I find the bosses and levels really easy. That's all I have to say about this game and I hope you found this review helpful.

Fun game! superluigi1
Sonic the hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis is one of the best ports for this game. My second favorite is the Sega Master System version since its an 8-bit version. What I really like about this game is that I really like the music from to first stage. It was so good, I wanted to listen to this on CD. Its quite addictive if you ant to beat the game. Its not that hard but sometimes I have to see what is in my way. The good thing is you can roll into a ball unlike the first sonic game and destroy anything in your path. He goes quite faster then in the first game. I thought beating the first boss was not even that hard. I would say beating is in the middle. The story was outstanding. It seems that Sega is very creative and never run out of ideas. The only sonic game I thought was bad was Sonic 06 on PlayStation 3 or X Box 360. I respect those who like that game. In other words, its one of the best and classic sonic games. This is superluigi1 signing out.
