Not as Bad as I Thought?Well, hey guys, so I decided to go ahead and try making 2 reviews today. So, I wanted to go ahead and make a review about another Sonic game for a different system instead of the Sega genesis. So, I actually found this. Which is "Sonic 3D Blast 5". I have no idea how the title even makes sense with the game sense it is not 3D at all but ehh.. What even caught my attention more is that it's for the Nintendo NES!!!! What the?!! No kidding. Also, one more thing I want to say, this review may be abnormally shorter than my other reviews since this game doesn't have much things to talk about and it's a pirated game. Anyways, let's start on the review!
Intro: What? What? A Sonic game for the NES? Not as bad as you thought? Are you insane man?Okay, let me explain. Chill. So, I agree. A sonic game for an NES is crazy and unbelievable. To explain it, it's simply an original pirated game. I find it somewhat very interesting and cool to see a pirated game specifically for the NES and it's a Sonic game to. And, you guys do know that Sega =/= Nintendo. As in, it won't make sense to see a Sonic game for a nintendo system or a Mario game for a sega system. Right? Well, apparently, those pirated games try to prove that it is possible to make Sega = Nintendo. As in play Sonic games in nintendo systems like this pirated game or Mario games in Sega system. Doesn't make sense, but still cool and interesting, right? Those pirated games were usually known to be dreadful most of the time. But strangely, this game wasn't half bad. Well, for a pirated game, that is. I thought this game was horrible when I look at the screenshots but when I tried it out, not THAT bad. Anyways, let us go ahead and dive in deeper to the review!
Gameplay: 5Not that horrible, ok, it is pretty bad but not as bad as I thought it would be. Well, why is it bad? Because there is one thing that is very significant about the gameplay for Sonic games that is bad. For this one, the physics.... They are just.... UGHHTHTHTRHtr. Well, let me explain, so, when you try out the game at first, you may be like, "Oh hey, not that bad for physics.". Then afterwards, once you jump, you suddenly notice as if there is something attempting to drag Sonic in the air. Sonic's speed just suddenly slows down and becomes hard to control. Then, it goes bad to normal after a while. Now, whats even worse is when you run up and down a hill. Just.... oh my goodness. When you go up a hill, you can't even move at all. Even if the hill is barely steep. When you go down a hill, you move uncontrollably fast! It's insane! Even if the hill barely goes down. Your speed randomly even changes too slow or very fast while you are in mid-air too. Just... Makes no sense at all. Sometimes, when you jump up and down, you might fall down extremely slowly or you may even jump up too high or too low. Though, sometimes, the physics do seem normal and alright but it kind of depends on your luck and it's pretty rare in certain areas. As for the other factors, there is no special abilities, just like how Sonic 1 is like. Thats about it for the gameplay portion in my review.
Graphics: 5Alright, we now move on to the graphics. So, the graphics is also somewhat dreadful too. Well, let's see why. Firstly, the colors. Is it colorful, yes indeed. Is it colorful in a good way? Not really. The colors are somewhat an eye-sore. Why? because the color is barely contrasting or vivid. It is just kind of unclear, it is mostly like solid colors everywhere. Just... lacks the detail so it isn't exactly "eye catching". Also, as for the animations (like moving sprites), just feels somewhat incomplete and poor. But really, I shouldn't lip much on that since it is an NES after all.
Sound: 6Alright, I'll say that there is one good thing and one bad thing about this one. Firstly, the good thing is the background music. Is it fitting? Yes it is. Fits the zone well indeed. Is it catchy? Well, somewhat. Almost something you would want to listen to. Almost... Is it of high quality? Well, not that bad actually. The background music just doesn't have much sounds but a few basic sounds to make it.... Barely enough to be considered a background music. But still, better than nothing and it is something you would want to hear more than nothing at all. Now, secondly, here is the bad thing, the sound effects. Ouch. When you collect rings or jump... etc, the sound effect is just way too high pitched and loud. It hurts your ears. Now, that is something you don't want to hear. You don't want to hear a painful, high pitched, and annoying sound every second you do something in the game. Right?
Addictiveness: 4Honestly, I'm not so sure if I would play a Sonic game like this again. I'd rather play some other awesome sonic game for a sega genesis instead of this one. I don't think I'd want to listen to another high pitched sound or attempt to deal with horrible physics. Well, not trying to rant here. Though, I still do give this game some credit for attempting to be a Sonic game for a nintendo NES system. There isn't really much left to say.
Story: 6Ehhh... Some old story like all other Sonic games. If you want me to go ahead and say the story, it is: "Dr. Eggman has evil plans! Will Sonic be able to stop him?" It's simple, overused, nothing interesting... etc. Though, not really such significant thing about Sonic games anyways.
Depth: 7Okay, now, for this one. I would give some credit. Just imagine, a pirated Sonic game for an NES system? It lets you play as Sonic in Sonic 1 zones? Amazing! But, one funny thing here, the zones are in an incorrect order than the original Sonic 1! It starts off with springyard zone! hahahahaha. But still, that is kind of interesting and unique though to see that kind of order in zones. So, to sum that up, this game offers basically everything of Sonic 1 for the sega genesis, however, the quality of what it offers is nothing compared to the original Sonic 1 for the sega genesis.
Difficulty: 9Yea, as you can predict, this is a very hard game. Why? There are 2 main reasons. First reason, dealing with the horrible physics. UGHH. You got to somehow get used to uncontrollable physics and random high or low speeds at times, which is nearly impossible to get used it. As for the second reason, you sometimes end up in an area with no rings, once you lose those rings, they easily get lost fast thanks to the horrible physics. And, thanks to the horrible physics, can you easily bump into a badnik or it's projectile. Plus, you may sometimes end up in an area where you just can't even dodge a projectile due to lack of space or once again, random and uncontrollable physics. So, a combination of those 2 factors makes this game hard in a pretty dreadful way.
OVERALL: 5.5Well, that is about it for my review. Thank you for reading. Any feedback is appreciated! :)
