SNK vs. Capcom - The Match of the Millennium Review by: Romanov - 9.7/10
SNK vs. Capcom: The Age of a New Millennium.So. SNK Vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium! How is it? Well, I'll get to that in a second, but first, HISTORY LESSON!
I called this The Age of a New Millennium for a good reason. This is, in fact, the first Crossover game ever made with Capcom. And what better choice than former employees? Yes, well.... It's a little deeper than that. You see, Capcom kinda forced this on SNK, who was just getting their feet wet with King Of Fighters and Fatal Fury. The agreement was, who ever produced the crossover got all the royalties. Yeah, bit of an incentive huh? Well, guess who got the first kill? That's right, SNK! Well... In theory. Actually, since this was produced on the NEO GEO, it didn't sell very well, and Capcom made their own crossover, which sold very well. But hey! SNK isn't too bad at what they did!
Now we move on to actual reviews. (Yay!)
Graphics: 10 out of 10.
One of the good qualities of the Neo Geo was it's amazing graphics. They were similar to the Game Boy Color, but way more advanced. Most characters have just one pallet from themselves, but it matches with the color that is usually associated with them. So that's cool. Also the background stages are very well done.
Sound: 10 out of 10.
The music for this game really sets itself from the very beginning. While there is some lag here and there, I can't tell if that's ROM based, or just the game itself, but it doesn't disrupt my enjoyment in anyway. You can recognize the themes of the characters you are playing very distinctly, and the End Boss theme (Evil Ryu or -somethingorother- Iori)
Addictiveness: DAN OUDA DAN! (Major props for who gets this)
I'm STILL coming back to play this game! This is like the first one I got when I joined Vizzed, and I'm STILL playing it! It's so much fun, and it never feels old or boring! It's good... It's good. IT'S REALLY FU-*Static*
Story: 9 out of 10.
What I like about SNK is the fact they can make a storyline for a fighter, better than Capcom can. (Or wants so, OOPS DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD?!) Story exists, but there isn't much point in following in except in the Bison/Geese battle cut scene.
Depth: 10 out of 10.
Oh whoa, don't think just because you beat the game means you are done. Oh no, not by a long shot. Now beat it on Hard. Have fun. Seriously, this game can take a long time to complete. Sure, you can finish it in like, an hour or so, but COMPLETING it? Nope, that take serious time. (Seriously, Akuma's Secret Special is like, Over 9000 points!)
Difficulty: 5 out of 10.
This is a good game for those who aren't particularly good at fighting games, but also appeals to hardcore players. The difficulty is controllable, and you learn a lot by playing on lower difficulty. Just be prepared for taunts.... So many taunts.
