Mutant League Football is probably my favorite sports game ever, and probably one of my favorite games for the Genesis. To me, sports games every year is useless and if I ever was to buy one it'd be every five years to see what has changed and what hasn't. But that's not the point, Mutant League Football gives the middle finger to all the sports games that take themselves seriously and has fun with it.
This game set in a post apocalyptic world where you have teams of skeletons, trolls, aliens, trolls, and much much more. You have seven players on each team and many of the teams are spoofs on real life teams. Players named Bones Jackson, Joe Magician, or Scary Ice. There's also teams like the Midway Monsters, Rad Rockers, Vile Vulgars, Slaycity Slayers, and much more.
What makes this game so excellent is that while it is still a football game and you have to make a strategy to win, there's hazards in the game likes mines, jet packs, icy fields that will change how you pass, pits and voids, you can attack your opponent viciously, and even bribe the referee until the other team kills him. If one of your characters die in the game, he stays there and you can even trip on him in the middle of our football match. There are a couple of modes in the game like the playoffs, championships, and all star options. All of which can be accessed by multiplayer mode.
A big downside of the game is that there's barely any music apart from a couple of screams, sound effects of tackling, and much really isn't that great. While the graphics are very colorful with the backrounds and a bit violent with the mines and the attacking.
Overall, Mutant League Football is a great play on the football games that take themslves actually seriously. If you liked this game, play Mutant League Hockey or get Mutant League Football from EA Replay on the PSP.
