Monster Rancher ReviewMonster Rancher is a very fun game for the psx. You get to raise your own monster and even battle with other monsters! This game has a lot to offer and I hope you give it a try.
Graphics 9/ 10:
The graphics in this game are good for the psx. There weren't any glitches, but there was one messed up monser than I found When you fight other minsters you are in an arena, but the people who are in the background don't look very good. This doesn't mess up the gameplay at all, but it just makes it a little less exciting. Some monsters had very similar sprites, but different colors. Lots of games do this so it isn't a huge problem. Over all the graphics were good. I give it a 9 out of 10.
Sound 9/ 10:
I really liked the music in the game. It was very original and each song fit it's place in the game. It didn't have many different songs, but what it had was very creative.
Addictiveness 7/ 10:
This game was very addicting. The first time I played this game I played it for hours and I didn't even go to a different game. After a few weeks the addictiveness started to go away, but it's still fun to come back and play it often.
Story 7/ 10:
The story isn't very different from most other games. In the past there was a disaster and people prayed for help. God answered their calls and created monsters to help them. But the monsters actually caused trouble so god sealed them into disk stones. Years later the monsters were taken from the disk stones and used to fight each other. Now you want to become the champion monster breeder. You do this by competing in official tournaments and if you win the S rank tournament you become the champion monster breeder. With the help of Holly and your monsters you can easily accomplish your goal!
I give it a 7 out of 10 because it's not very different from other games.
Depth 9/ 10:
This game has a lot to offer. There are over 150 monsters to collect and lots of thing to do with them. This game also has a very creative way to get monsters. CD's! Every cd that you have has a monster in it. You can put it in your play station system and then you will be able to play with that monster! This game has some other features and each one will help you become the champion monster breeder!
Difficulty 7/ 10:
This game is a little hard. It really depends on how well you train your monsters. You have a few weeks to train your monster before an official tournament starts. During those weeks you can pick a job for your monster to do or you can let your monster train for a whole month. Jobs raise your monster's stats a little and give you money, while training costs money and raises your stats a lot. The first few months you'll probably make bad choices on how to spend your time and you might have trouble in the tournaments. You also have an option to punish your monster if he doesn't do well in his tasks. Don't punish your monster it will lower his loyalty. Once you get the hang of training tournaments will be much easier. ;)
Overall 9/ 10:
Overall I really enjoyed playing Monster Rancher. It had so much to offer and it's addictiveness made me come back a lot. Hopefully you will enjoy it too!
RGR Plugin Effects 9/ 10:
This game works great using the rgr plugin. The graphics and sound lag sometimes, but it's much better than some other games. It's very enjoyable and it makes you feel like you are playing it on a real Play Station! The only problem is that if you are playing this on an emulator you wont be able to experiance the CD feature. This isn't a huge probalem because you can still get a monster anyway.
