Micro Machines Review by: Totts - 9.4/10
Micro MachinesOne cannot underestimate the impact that this game had when it came out! Its popularity makes it one of the best and most memorable games ever to be released. Fast cars, good food and a giant bubble bath. This particular combination of game elements make this one of the most skilfully released race game classics to merge from code masters/Ocean. If you know the small plastic cars from the nineties, you know what here is being played. Here races take place, from a birds eye view, from the top of kitchen tables, bathtubs and sand pits with small cars.
With a choice of head to head and challenge modes you race for the Cup at the start in a series with multiple opponents or as a single opponent. You have decided your character in challenge mode, selecting first your drivers from a team of eleven Comic characters. Then go against three opponents on the varied routes. You progress further only when you either the first or second place in the race, although you can try again thanks to three continues. You drive in the head to head mode only against a single opponent. Who first reached the target point of the screen in this mode, you have one of eight possible victory points. Both modes are very entertaining and motivating, but have the same courses. The routes are very varied and lead you onto billiards tables and desks. The interesting thing here is that you get put another car for each track, by boat, on race car, even up to tanks, all are represented. Each vehicle’s controls also vary completely differently. Various obstacles on the road are glue, which slows you down and objects that can be used as ramps.
The degree of difficulty steadily soars without ever being really too hard! Beginners are motivated and experts can get a thrill too. Control goes well by hand, control speed with A button and reversing the B button.
A successful two player mode via link cable was also considered, but without this the game lacks some depth.
The look is great for a game boy title very detailed and has a charming comic book look. If you have the possibility, play the game on a GBA or GBC, because here the coloring facilitates the differentiation between track and surrounding a something in addition. The music does amazingly well to entertain in the menus with beautiful melodies while but the sounds very penetrating during races.
Conclusion: Epic! Mini car racing offers truly excellent entertainment for one or two players! Micro machines is definitely one of the best racing games for the game boy and comes with a guarantee of fun.
