Kirby Dreamland 2 review   tornadocam
Kirby is back again to save us from our nightmares so we can go to dreamland. Nah just kidding thought Kirby is back in this sequel for Game Boy.
Plot: 7
Remember how bad the first Dreamland game was? For those that do not remember in the first game. King Dedede just stole food so he could enjoy his midnight snack. Okay enough of me ranting about that, time for the actual plot. The rings that connect the 7 islands in Dreamland has been shattered by Dark Matter (the Nightmares). Not only has the rings been shattered but the nightmares have possessed some of the residents. One of the residents to get possesed is none other than King Dedede. Kirby and his animal friends set out on a new adventure to collect the shattered pieces, restore Dreamland, liberate the residents, and to banish the nightmare. Okay this was a much better plot than the first game. Hal Labs made a much better plot than having Dedede just steal food. If you read my Dreamland One review you can see my rant on how the main villain just steals food for his own snack. Having Dark Matter possess Dedede was a nice touch and having the nightmares return was so much better than the first game. However, If anybody has played Kirby games this is pretty much the same plot used all over again. Dreamland 2's plot was even used in Dreamland 3 with no changes. In Kirby's Adventure, which is a great game, the Nightmares invade the fountain pool. So I was hoping Hal labs would get more creative. On the other hand, if this is your first Kirby game it introduces you to the reoccurring plots in the game. Still, this plot was so much improved from Dreamland one. That alone deserves a decent rating.
Graphics: 8
The graphics in this game were much improved. The backgrounds in some stages sparkle, in the water stages the water seems to move which is a nice touch. The Ice stages the ice shines. However, the thing in some stages the backgrounds seem to look fuzzy. So it makes me wonder did Hal rush this game as when this game came out. The Game Boy Color was taking the regular Game Boy's place. The controls are greatly improved from the first game. Kirby seems more smooth. Also even when Kirby is playing with an animal buddy the controls are still very good. The sprints are also improved. Enemies look like enemies again and the characters look like they did in Kirby's Adventure. The first game the characters did not even look like they did in other Kirby games, they were that bad. Also in the latter stages I did notice a few lags. But, compared to Dreamland one they are not that bad and or minor.I would have given this a higher rating had it not been the fuzziness in the background and the minor lags. I like backgrounds to be smooth and consistent. This game the backgrounds would look good in one world but fuzzy the next. Still, since it is improved and this game does have nice touches and good controls it deserves a solid rating.
Sound: 8
This sound in this game was again improved from its precursor. I really like how some of the stages have a quite relaxing theme others have a upbeat tempo. What makes the sound special is the music changes when Kirby is riding one of his animal friends. Coo (The Owl) has a really nice tempo whenever the player is using him. The sounds of the special weapons are also nicely done. The electric weapon reminds me of a good thunderstorm on a supper day were there is lots of lightening. The ice weapon reminds me of sounds of winter. That was nicely done. Now here is were the sound might suffer just a little bit compared to Kirby's Adventure, Dreamland 3 and The Amazing Mirror. For readers who have read my reviews you know the rant that is fixing to come . This game does have some tingling in it. The tingling is not bad compared to Dreamland One, but it is noticeable. I do not like tingles so that keeps this rating from being prefect. Again, I wonder if this game was not rushed. Still, dreamland 2 had a good sound to it. Thus, I give it a solid 8 out of 10.
Addictiveness: 7
This game was more fun to play than Dreamland One. I find myself playing this one more. The animal buddies add replay value. Also this game has longer stages (more on that in just a bit). Now is this game up there with Dreamland 3, Kirby's Adventure or The Amazing Mirror. I would say not, still this is a fun game to play, and I often play it.
Depth: 8
Dreamland 2 adds more depth to the game than the first game did. First of all, they are special weapons to acquire. The first game did not have any weapons. A lot of the weapons are from Kirby's Adventure. It is often fun to play this game with one special weapon and see how far you can go with it. Also they are items to collect, the player can collect stars and complete the quests in the stages. In fact, the quests need to be collected to get the rainbow rings to get the correct ending of this game. In addition, they are secret rooms that also have to be found to get all the items. Hall Labs really made sure that levels got explored in this game. Also the stages and worlds are longer in this game. The first dreamland game did not have a lot of depth, there were no special powers, no quests and no items to collect. Hall Labs really wanted this game to be improved and by increasing the depth was a good way to do it. The depth is not up there though with Dreamland 3 or the Amazing Mirror. Still, it has decent depth that also adds to the replay value. I give the depth a solid rating.
Difficulty: 7
The difficulty in this game can be tricky, there are enemies that love to hit you from behind, corner you, and some can knock out your animal friends with just one hit. The Bosses some of them are easy like in the first 3 worlds. After world 3 you better have a special weapon with you and have some skill because they are tough. The final boss in this game is even difficult. Enemy placement as I mentioned can be a problem. However, if the player has a special power or weapon than the enemies are not that bad. Unlike the first Dreamland game, they give you plenty of weapons on how to deal with enemies. It should also be noted that certain animal buddies have really good attacks depending on what power up you have. Dreamland 2 does require skill and creativity to beat, which is the game I really like. However, I kind of expected more of a challenge. For me the game did not start getting hard till the middle of the game. The first three worlds are pretty easy. I wrestled with my rating of this one. The later world bosses, the end boss, and the enemy placement is what makes this game have its trouble spots. On the other hand they give you special weapons on how to deal with the obstacles. So, I give this game a decent rating of 7. I really wanted to give this game a higher rating and I was hoping it would be up there with The Amazing Mirror. But they give you items to overcome this.
Overall Rating 8.4?
This game was a much improved game from Dreamland One. I really liked how they brought the special weapons over from Kirby's Adventure. I like how Hal Labs changed the music whenever the player rode an animal buddy. Dreamland 2 is how the first Dreamland should have been made. The graphics, sound, depth and difficulty were so much better. Dreamland 2 was one of the last Game Boy games I believe. I want to think this game came out in 1995 maybe I am not sure but I remember it being around that time. In 1995 the Game Boy was starting to be replaced by the better and improved Game Boy Color. There are times in this game that made me feel like Dreamland 2 was rushed, the fuzziness in the backgrounds, the tingles in the sound, and the difficulty not being as sharp as it could. It kind gave me the impression that Hal Labs was trying to get this game out before the Game Boy was replaced. On the other hand this game was so much better than the first dreamland. Granted, it is not up there with Kirby's Adventure, Dreamland 3, or The Amazing Mirror but this is still a good solid game. I would say I recommend this game. If you want to play a Kirby Game on the Game Boy go with this one.

Kirby's Dream Land 2 review.   G@mehe@d
Kirby's Dream Land 2 is the sequel to Kirby's Dream Land and like Super Mario Land 2 it has more levels and features. The game has several levels in different worlds. These levels get shorter as you progress through the game.
GAMEPLAY: Unlike it's predecessor this game has more variety of gameplay. Kirby now has his famous copy ability were he swallows an enemy were he can have whatever power that enemy has. Kirby also has little friends like a hamster that he rides on to give him slightly more speed, an owl that grabs on to him and makes him fly without him doing it him self. The owl can also fly through strong winds that Kirby cannot, then there's the disturbing fish. He literally puts Kirby in his mouth and allows him to swim through the ocean with ease, and of course the fish can swim through strong currents in the ocean. Each of the animals has advantages and disadvantages. The controls are pretty good and easy to get used to. So in the end, this game has more gameplay variety then the previous game, but does not have the simplicity of the original.
GRAPHICS: The game can go into the Super Game Boy adapter giving the game some color. The box said "programmed to take full advantage of Super Game Boy features" and however wrote on the back of the box was right. Nintendo used the Super Game Boy pretty well. Even the 4 or so colors are enough to make the levels have a good theme. If you played this on the Game Boy with out the adapter you would have a lack of themes. Another thing I have to praise is the more creative level design. There are more secret routes and more details in the levels then the first game.
SOUND: Like the graphics, the sound has dramatically improved. The soundtrack is way more complex and there's more sound effects then in the first game. There's even songs for when you team up with one of your animal friends.
ADDICTIVENESS: I wish the game was more addicting. Despite all the cool stuff this game has to offer. I was hoping for the game to be over soon. Plus it does not have very much replay value so I wouldn't consider playing this game for very long.
STORY: It starts out with Dark Matter. An evil force that destroyed the rainbow bridges. The rainbow bridges helped connect the 7 unique islands of dream land. Kirby goes on a quest with his 3 animal friends to save the islands by defeating Dark Matter and bringing the rainbow bridges back.
DEPTH: This game has a lot to offer there's 39 levels including all the boss stages. There's hidden secrets, and one of them is the rainbow drops. There's one on each island, and you need them all to defeat Dark Matter. If you don't get them all you will fight King Dedede.
DIFFICULTY: What Kirby's Dream Land needed was difficulty. Well in this game there is a lot more difficulty that video game pros needed. The game is still fairly easy though.

kirby RULES !   lolid23
The Kirby games are very famous for many reasons, they are very addictive and simple, yet that doesn't make them very bad, this is the review of all the GOOD things of this game :
Story : the story of this game is by far one of the best stories in Kirby history, this game marks the first time that Dark Matter showed in Kirby world, Dream Land, the (fake) final boss is (as usual) King Dedede, the fat penguin with a hammer and Kirby´s rival, the plot says that Dark Matter, one of the most dangerous enemies Kirby has fought, came to Dream Land because he was jealous of Dream Land happy lifestyle or he was simply feeling lonely, It doesn´t matter if he has a reason or not, he is still an enemy, after his arrival to Dream Land, he posses King Dedede and hides himself in the Dark Castle (the last world of the game), Kirby then notices that he is back and decides to go after him but that won´t be easy, he has to go trough a lot of islands to get to the Dark Castle, they used to be connected, but not anymore.
Graphics : a GB game never has good graphics, still, it doesn´t matter, as long as the game is good and addictive, then, the graphics aren´t the important thing.
Sound : the sounds are catchy, some are also annoying but if we talk about the music...then, that is even better, the Dark Castle theme for example is, without any doubt, one of the best 8-bit songs you will ever hear.
Addictiveness : almost all the Kirby games have the same gameplay, they are often very fun platform games, this one is one of them, unlike the previous game (which was the first Kirby game ever), Kirby (somehow) got the skill to copy the ability of any enemy he eats, thing that continues for the rest of the series, the pink puffball games are always excellent and this game is very addictive, almost all the platform games are addictive, this one is one of them, despite being simple, it´s very addictive, Kirby also has the skill of flying, which makes this better and is very useful.
depth : very few Game Boy games have the famous save feature, and this game has that feature, which means that this is one of the longest GB games ever, there are WAY longer games for other consoles, but this game is VERY long for GB standards.
Difficulty : most of the Kirby games are easy, but that doesn´t make them bad, enough said
Overall, I give this game a 10, is not very hard, but is very good, has good music and has a good story, that is enough to make this game excellent.

A tasty sequel.   RedHotToddy
About a day ago I RedHotToddy reviewed the first of many Kirby games made by Nintendo, Now I have a surprise for you guys today! This time, I am now reviewing the full real new and improved sequel to the hit game, This is Kirby's dream land 2 for the gameboy, Will this game be better then the last one? Let's see and find out!
Story-7/10
The plot this time is that in the land of dreamland one day, An evil being known as Dark matter has now stolen these so called rainbow bridges that are supposed to connect these seven rainbow islands! Kirby, accompanied by 4 of his animal friends must solve this dilemma and defeat dark matter!
Gameplay-8/10
Gameplay in this game is much like Kirby's dream land one, except there is so much more added to this sequel! The first addition is that Kirby can now officially swallow enemies and copy their abilities! The second newest addition is that Kirby can also now use some of his animal friends to help him get across sticky situations. Each of the levels in this game are not just standalone levels with a boss at the end unlike the first game, instead the levels in each world are now connected by a hub, which is a huge plus! Each world consists of 3 levels and a boss, the 3 main levels are just standard platfoming, while the boss level puts you against a tough boss battle that will take alot of skill to beat. Like the last game, Kirby will be battling alot of enemies in his journey, such as waddle doo, that plasma guy, etc. Anyways, that is it for the graphics!
Graphics-8/10
The graphics in this game have improved alot since what we saw last time! Kirby's dream land 1 looked pretty amazing for the first game in the entire series, but this one has alot going on! The HUD is changed, the level design has changed, yeah, you get the point! All the levels you will be exploring are big, happy, and a blast to explore. As for the characters, they are pretty cool as well, Kirby is a cute little marshmallow guy who can swallow people can copy their moves, Rick the hamster is a good use of transportation for those slowed paced action levels, and so on!
Sound-7/10
Even better then what we got last time, All the levels and worlds in this game have bright and happy music that really suits the mood of each level as the game progresses. As for the sound effects, they are pretty spot-on as well! You get your sound like enter door, fire laser beam, float in the air, etc. Although some of the songs in this game can get a LITTLE repetitive, It is really no big, as the music is a joy to listen to.
Addictiveness-8/10
You won't believe how much fun I had with this game back when I first played it! I played it nonstop, in the car, under a blanket, you name it! The game is so good it even became a Gameboy best seller within weeks of release! The game has alot charm that just makes you want to come back for more and more stuff!
Depth-8/10
This sequel is quite longer and bigger then the first one that is, There are about 7 worlds in the game, each with 4-6 levels, so the game will probably take you about 2-4 hours to beat, There are still no subgames to play from the menu yet, which is really sad, Let's get a move on sequels!
Difficulty-6/10
I had tons of fun with Kirby's new adventure, But the game is just like It's predecessor, It is too flipping easy! I remembered getting down with this game with only like 25 extra guys left, I know the later Kirby games today offer alot of more challenge though!
Overall-8.5/10
I would rate this game on the RedHotToddy rewards as best sequel ever, But that is pushing it too hard, But anyways, this game rocks and I highly recommend you buy it! I gave this game a 8.5 because how much fun it was! This has been RedHotToddy, And I'm signing out everyone! By next week If I keep this up, I should have 100 reviews!

My Review for Kirby's Dreamland 2   luigi25

Kirby's Dreamland 2 was released for the original Nintendo Gameboy in the spring of 1995. It is the third game of the Kirby trilogy and is very similar in layout to the previous game (Kirby's Adventure) on the NES. This game introduces the animal buddies as well as the return of Kirby's copy abilities from before. In some ways, Kirby's Dreamland 2 feels like a port of Kirby's Adventure. Many of the sprites and backgrounds look the same. The soundtrack is different, and the gameplay is more involved. King Dedede returns but is possessed by an evil spirit. I'm not all that familiar with this game, but it is one worth discussing.

Graphics 6/10: Like I mentioned before, Dreamland 2 is almost like a port of Kirby's Adventure. The sprites and backgrounds are pretty much identical to those in that game, but they don't look as good. Overall, I feel like this is kind of an ugly looking game. The life just isn't there. It isn't like the previous Kirby games. I can't really describe it, but the backgrounds just don't look that good to me. This game looks like a port instead of something original. Everything looks like a dumbed down version of Kirby's Adventure and Kirby's Dreamland.

Music 9/10: The music for Kirby's Dreamland 2 isn't that bad. About all the tracks are new and exclusive to this game. There are very few that are ported over from the other two Kirby games. I like the soundtrack in this one. I'd say it's about as good as the music in the first Gameboy Kirby game but not quite. Most tracks sound great, but there are a few that aren't so great and even some that have been ported over from the other games. This soundtrack is a good soundtrack, but it isn't perfect. Although, it does have some great Kirby music in it especially towards the end of the game.

Gameplay 10/10: Some of the copy abilities from Kirby's Adventure make a return for Kirby's Dreamland 2. The ones that make a comeback are: Fire, the Fireball, the Cutter, the Stone, the Parasol, the Spark, and the Needle. Kirby can also ride 3 animal buddies in this game as well. These include: The Hamster, Owl, and Fish. When Kirby is riding one of these animals, he can take further damage from enemies before he loses the animal and returns to his regular form with still 6 bars of health. Kirby's copy abilities are also altered with these animals, which makes it easier to progress through the game and reach bonus areas.

There may still be some other copy abilities I forgot about, but those are the main ones that I remember from this game. Similar to the previous game on NES, there are a total of 7 different areas each with their own overworld map. There is a Rainbow Drop randomly hidden in one of the levels of each world. These Rainbow Drops are necessary for unlocking the final boss, getting the proper ending, and achieving 100% completion.

Also, after defeating the boss of each area, the player can re-enter this stage to play a star-catching mini-game. The boss throws stars at you to catch, but they also throw objects too that you must avoid. If you fail to collect all the stars or get hit by one of the objects, the game will end with no option to try again until you complete another level. The star mini-game is also necessary for getting 100%. It isn't necessary to win the star-catching games in order to unlock the final boss. You just have to collect all the Rainbow Drops. However, this boss fight has two parts, the part with Dark Matter and another part with a Giant Eyeball. The part with the Eyeball is really hard to avoid taking damage on, and Kirby also has defeat him under a certain amount of time or he'll start taking damage out of nowhere and die!

Kirby's Dreamland 2 is a fun game to play because of how it is split up into 7 different worlds. This is something that can be said about most platformers. The mechanics of this game also make it worth playing. Not only can Kirby float over large gaps, but the copy abilities make a return. There aren't as many in this Kirby game, but he can also ride animal buddies too. Getting the good ending is very hard to do, but it is worth trying. It's there as a pretty cool extra that is playable and can be done. KD2 is designed pretty well. It isn't hard and provides extra challenge for experienced players while still being a casual game for beginners. Overall, it has as good of gameplay as any other video game.

Story 10/10: The plot of Kirby's Dreamland 2 is pretty interesting this time around. The Rainbow Bridge has been destroyed by Dark Matter who has also possessed King Dedede. Kirby sets out with his animal friends to defeat King Dedede and restore peace to Dreamland. If you collect all 7 Rainbow Drops, Kirby performs an exorcism on King Dedede and releases Dark Matter and the Giant Eyeball. Kirby defeats both and restores the Rainbow Bridge in the proper ending. The storyline is pretty easy to understand unlike in Kirby's Adventure. It is also a more thought out plot instead of the one from the first Kirby's Dreamland.

Kirby has to do quite a lot in this game. He has become a big hero to the people of Dreamland. This time, Kirby has a pretty difficult quest. In Kirby's Adventure, he had a similar objective, but it was hard to understand how he got to that point. Here, the plot is easier to follow and pretty cool. Nintendo did a good job with this game's storyline. It's pretty creative and well developed.

Content 9/10: Kirby's Dreamland 2 is broken up into 7 different areas: Grass Land, Big Forest, Ripple Field, Iceberg, Red Canyon, Cloudy Park, and Dark Castle. This game takes between 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours to complete. The star-catching mini-games and the Rainbow drops also add more to the gameplay experience, but playing all of this extra content doesn't unlock anything new. You just get a better ending. This is a game with a fair amount of depth. It isn't a long game, but it still takes up a good bit of time.

Difficulty 5/10: In Kirby's Dreamland 2, Kirby has the same amount of health points like he had in the previous two games. However, I feel like this game is more generous with extra lives which is a good thing. The boss fights are more involved. They probably take even more patience than what they did in Kirby's Adventure. Once you learn their pattern, they're not hard. The game in general isn't very hard. As long as you keep playing it, you'll beat it. Kirby does take a lot of damage, but I still didn't find myself losing many lives. Even if I did, I didn't have to go back very far.

This is another game that doesn't become long or tedious with the exception of some of the bosses. You usually keep moving. KD2 does feel harder than Kirby's Adventure because of the longer boss fights especially the one with Dedede. The control isn't that good either but never becomes much of a problem with all the health bars. This is only a hard game for those trying to get 100%. That is a real pain but not necessary. Beating this game is fairly easy, but it does have its difficult parts. It is a game with mixed difficulty but nothing all that terrible.

Overall 8.8/10: So far, this is the best Kirby game I have played. The graphics aren't as good as those in the previous games. They must have ported a lot over from those two instead of doing something new. Nintendo and Hal Laboratory did do something new with the soundtrack which helps things. Once you get past these minor issues, Kirby's Dreamland 2 is just as good a game as any other. It has plenty of content and extra challenge to it which I like. I also like the introduction of the animal buddies. This is another good game for the original black and white Gameboy.

Kirby's Dream Land 2   Blobbie244
Kirby's Dream Land 2 was a great game, so let's go back to the past and check this game out.
Graphics: 6
The graphics were good, but I know they can at least do better. Although they were fine. Compared to the older Kirby's Dream Land, these would be about as good.
Sound: 7
Kirby's sound in this game was great - it sounded what would be in a legitimate classic Kirby game.
Addictiveness: 8
Yes, it would be addicting. The bosses range, too. Plus, in this game, Kirby's three furry friends are there in this game to help.
Story: 6
Thinking that this time, King Dedede was behind all of this, it basically wasn't. It was the evil dark matter.
The story is good if you check it out. Pretty odd it wasn't Dedede after all.
Depth: 7
Like some of the previous titles "Kirby's Adventure", a similar Boss Endurance was added to this. Plus, an unlockable soundboard was available. It offered lots of fun, and the stages were pretty creative for 1995, too.
Difficulty: 4
It gets really hard throughout the game. It would take a month/two to beat it, averagely. The fastest I have ever heard of beating it was 48 minutes. Are you up for the challenge?
This shuts the door to this review, guys:
So far, I would give it an 8.1, it had lots of creativity in the game, featured, Kine, Rick, and Coo, as a debut in a good game. I recommend you play this if you didn't.

Kirby Dream Land 2 my 1st review   toto2271
Kirby Dream Land 2:The new game of kirby saga this is amazing. the kirby saga is undervalued for the gamers the saga got few sales but  the games are awesome.
The graphics:For the game boy ?are cool and no colors classic, retro and animals the animals are Rick the hamster,Coo the owl and Kine the fish.
Sound:They are ok and the music is amazing and memorable no more words.
Addictiveness:Fun fun and fun but lot of time playing boring.
Story:The simple story to save dreamland
Depth:Its short but hard to get the 100% and later you dont have nothing to do
Difficulty:easy like a kirby game but hard to get 100%

I believe it auto-saves after every level if this is like most of the other Kirby games.

to get 100% you have to beat all the mini games after defeating a boss then you have to get all the rainbow drops(the thing that turns into a sword used to defeat darkmater)
