Decap Attack is a strange little game and an underrated gem, in fact I just found it out through that Genesis Collection on the PS3, and I've got to say that it's one of the best out for the Genesis and it's from a developer that I already like, Vic Tokai who made gems like Golgo 13 and Clash at Demonhead for the NES.
Anyway, the game starts off with this mummy named Chuck D. Head, a mummy created by Doctor Frank N Stein. Chuck must fight off Max D. Cap who has just came back from the Underworld to come back to revive his islands.
The game is a basic Get from Point A to Point B type of games in which you have to avoid or kill enemies before you get killed. You have find power-ups to collect, hearts to collect, extra lives, and items to finish the level. Then you go fight a boss at the end of each level, to collect bones for yourself. A great feature of the game is if you collect a skull you can use it to hit enemies and the skull acts like a boomerang so if you beat enemies it'll come right back instead of jumping on them. You can also collect potions which will eliminate all the enemies on screen or not getting hit for a while, and the better part is that I believe that you can pause, select from the inventory and that power works for a period of time.
Decap Attack can be a bit hard for many newcomers, considering how you have around 2 to 3 health points in each level, however once you know how to dodge and attack successfully then you could be a champ at the game easily. Though I recommend using cheats and save states for newcomers to make them advance through the game.
The graphics in the game are really good for 1991, the game uses weird and trippy like enemies, which you could describe the whole game, very trippy. However the music is also taken in consideration which has been a very strong department with many Vic Tokai games. It's something I'd recommend putting on your iPod.
At the end while challenging and a very colorful game, Decap Attack is a game that I recommend for the whole lot of you.
