Contra Force Review by: Fattie54 - 8.7/10
Can't fight the force, the C-Force, that is!Now everyone is entitled to their own opinion
and mostly every one's opinion is "this game is a shame to the series"
or "this is so bad" or whatever. My opinion to their opinions is
"SHUT UP!!!"
A game in Japan called Arc Hound was soon to be released, but for
some reason it wasn't. So Konami got the rights to the game or however you say
it. They then changed the name, but not even a bit of the game. So the game was
released only in America under the name Contra Force. I think the reason they
made the name Contra Force is because they wanted to get attention. Remember,
Contra was one of the best franchises around. So Konami was playing it smarty smart!
Depth: I never start with the depth, but this game's depth is deeper
than the Atlantic Ocean! First of all,
you can choose to play as 4 different characters with different weapons. We got....
Burns, the leader! Smith, the sniper guy! Iron, the cannon guy who is tough as
heck! And Beans, the demolitions expert extraordinaire. That always seemed
funny to me. I always thought Beans from Contra Force was the same guy who was
Bill Rizer's partner. You know, Lance BEAN? Yeah, ha ha ha ha. So, they all
have different weapons, right? Well, to get those weapons you have to collect
suitcases and get power upped. The bar below where it shows how much lives you
have left has letters on it. Those letters are just short form for a gun. HM is
heat missiles, for example. Then aside from weapons, there are 2 other
ones, one for faster fire rate and one weird jump thing them makes you
invincible while you are airborne. I think the coolest thing you can do is when
you press start to select a new character, you can go to another character you
want to choose and from there you can make them give you assist fire; cover
both your right and left side, and much more. You can also play with 2 players.
Another cool thing is that they can join the game....even when the game started
already! And I can’t believe I forgot to mention the absolutely thrilling
thrill of the boss fights! Whether you’re on a boat, shooting down a
helicopter, it’s always epic. And I forgot about the boat rides and swinging on
chains like a boss. Well, I could go on for HOURS, but I’ll just stop right
here. So to conclude this section, depth gets a nice solid 10.
Graphics: The graphics are pretty good. I
know that sounds cliché, but they are. The characters look alright and so do
the bullets, other enemies, and so on. But, some things stand out, and not
exactly in a good way. Like in the 3rd stage, there are elevators,
and they are really weird. Everything is dark, but the elevators are a bright,
radiant kind of green. And the colour itself is weird. Everything is dark, like
black, brown and so on, but all of a sudden, GREEN? Well, it doesn’t matter THAT
much, so graphics, 8/10.
Sound: Aw yeah. Just go on Youtube and check
out the soundtrack for this game and you will be amazified. From the thrilling
thrill of the boss themes that are oh so epic and suspenseful, enough to suit
the moment, to the awesome stage music, and especially the boat theme, it’s
something to hear alright. 10/10 again! I just had to. Especially with the
musical limitations of the NES, we got one of the best 8-bit rock jams!
Adictiveness: This is one of those games
where it’s sort of hard to stop playing, especially with the depth and the
soundtrack and the challenge that makes it so much fun. And since you can play
with a buddy, I have to rate this a bit higher…. To 10/10!!!
Story: Every single time I play an NES game,
I don’t pay much attention to the story. The story here is actually pretty
good. A terrorist group is waging war and killing and blowing stuff up, so the
Contra Force is out to stop them! Well, it’s not too impressive, but at least
there isn’t a princess needing rescue. Screw you, Princess Peach!! So, the
story isn’t that good, but extra points for originality! 6/10
Difficulty: This is one of those games you
love, you always want to play, but it keeps beating you down! It’s undeniable
hard, but once you’ve played for a LOOONG time, you’ll get used to it. It’s
that perfect amount of difficulty that gives you an awesome and fun challenge.
How many times did I use the word awesome or fun? Well, it doesn’t matter,
because that’s what this game is! So to conclude this section, 7/10
This is a game I recommend you play right
now, because it’s worth all your time. So this was the Hippie, and I wish you a
good lifetime. Featured review, please? I beg of you. LOL
