Conker's Bad Fur Day Review by: jlove92 - 10/10
Drunk, violent, foul Squirrel with a huge bladderBy far one of the most addicting games I’ve ever played for
any Nintendo Console, maybe as far as any game I’ve ever played.
Graphics:
Considering it was made for Nintendo 64, I think the
graphics are amazing. Not only that but, the game offers many characters-
squirrel, bear, raptor, cave man, etc. I love the details on wardrobe, weapons,
scene, and of course the dialogue. My favorite graphic is at the beginning, Conker cutting
the Nintendo logo in half with a chainsaw- nice way to start the game! Really good graphics for a ’64; I’m giving it
an 8 just because I would have liked more details when playing outside in the
open field. I like this graphics better than Super Mario 64.
Sound:
I love the music; it goes very well with the game. I
particularly like the “distressed” noise that each character makes when running,
it makes me a bit paranoid that I’m being followed. Love the noise the baseball
bat makes when you’re trying to crush your opponents head. Then, there’s the
glorious Bazooka noise letting you know that you just blew up your enemy to
pieces. Best sound though? Definitely while in Mini-Games- using the restroom
and killing your opponents with your own pee. That is definitely a nice touch! Oh,
yes, the sizzling sound of some raptor eggs being cooked in a giant pan after
running through ruins to find the nest and make it past momma raptor. Just great
sound all throughout that really engages you as a gamer. I am giving it 9 as I would have liked more
music throughout the mini games. I have played mostly Mario and Star Wars games for Nintendo consoles and well these games tend to be more genetic and keep everyone happy approach so, the music
selection for this game was completely new to me and I loved it.
Addictiveness:
I would say it is extremely addicting. Most addicting games
have one-two reasons to drive you to addiction. When it comes to Conker Bad Fur
Day, I think this games has every reason as to why it is addicting- multiple
characters, engaging story mode, humorous, a bit graphic, multiple weapon
selection, hidden features and finishing moves (Matrix move- shoot enemies with
two guns mid air), great
selection of mini games all- Heist, Raptor, Total War,
and much more- all giving you different ways to execute your opponent(s), and
multiplayer option- love playing this game with 3 other players- absolute
slaughter! I play this game over and over.
Story:
Story mode, Conker is drunk at a bar and calls his
girlfriend and gives her some lies as he proceeds to sing at the bar. I like
how you can press B and give Conker an Alka-Seltzer to wipe out his hangover-
shows director Chris Seavor and his team put a lot of thought behind this game
to not only further extend the out of the box perception of Rare but, to truly
engage the gamer into every aspect of the game even during story mode which is
something that now is so popular for games of all consoles. I used to hate
story mode and used to take a break when characters where engaging in dialogue
but, this game made me look forward to it just to see how much more creativity
was put into this game. Well Story mode takes you in a wild chase playing as
Conker and on a mission to find his girlfriend- I guess goes to show that
staying late in a bar drinking with your buddies doesn’t always end well.
Depth:
As compared to new games, the main story itself does not
have that much depth. However, depth is created through great characters as
Conker undergoes his mission: The Great Mighty Poo- a big opera-singing, pile
of feces who loves sweet corn, Tediz- a robotic evil teddy bear determine to
take over the world, Professor von Kripplespac- a Prussian weasel battlefield commander
and scientist, Sunflower- a large breasted sunflower for whom Mr. Bee left his
wife for (funny story of how Mr. Bee becomes basically a bum after leaving
Queen Bee), Heinrich, a parody from the film Aliens created by the Professor,
and last but, not least, the evil Panther King.. Each of these characters has a story within
the main story mode and all play a key role in beating this game. What I like most
is that the story mode also includes a war- Milk Wars- when long ago, panthers
and the oldest squirrel family, Kulas of Conk, allied against the weasels.
Power then, got to King Panther and well he chopped off the legs of Weasel King
and took over his kingdom while betraying his allies and banished the Kulas of
Conk. I love that this war plays a key role throughout the game. Also, I really like how Rare designed this game for mature audiences and
incorporated concepts that were happening at that time (Alien Film) as well as
things we used to frown so much upon at the time- foul
language, drug and alcohol usage, and excessive violence- of course in a
humorous and safe for all way. It’s a great story mode that is easy to follow and helps to also explains some
of the concepts behind the Mini Games (Heist, Total War).
Difficulty:
For me, it isn’t as hard as games I am used to today but,
nevertheless, it has its difficulty. For instance, Mini-Games are not as easy.
While playing Raptor you really have to be very agile and keep your distance
when fighting as cave man against a huge momma raptor, Tediz have great eye coordination
and aim so beware or your head will be blown up, and the story mode can be a
bit challenging at times. I’ve experience the most trouble when aiming a
Bazooka using the PC Keyboard- I am so used to analogs. But, all in all the
difficulty within this game whether in story mode or mini games makes you play
the game even more as opposed to just quit so I think it was a really good
balance.
Overall
I love this game and it is the reason why I came across
Vizzed. I would recommend this game to anyone. I absolutely love the amount of
time, effort, detail, creativity, social content, and crude humor included.
Definitely a must have when considering Nintendo 64. Now, my rating of this game compared to that of newer consoles would be about 2-3 points less for each category but, staying within Nintendo 64, this is among my favorite games for that console.
