Castlevania - Circle of the Moon Review by: XxEzraxX - 9.9/10
Castlevania Circle of the Moon ReviewThe Castlevania series has put out quite a few good games and this one is no exception. I loved this title, the game play is great and the story is decent. Although I wish they didn't use Dracula because of the whole Bram Stoker book and the films kind of overrating him, but I can't really complain because the game was really good. Trying to explain what kind of game this is, well is kind of difficult because it is kind of a mixture of a side scrolling beat 'em up, plat former, action and rpg game. However, I have always thought of it as an rpg.
I rated the game overall a 9.9 I loved it and I had it through my teenage years, I have no idea where it is now but I had a great time playing the game. It is definitely a game that is worth praise, and I don't think many people even know of this titles existence which is a shame really. I remember when I first started this game, I was blown away by how dark it was. At the time I was still in the days where gameboy games consisted of things like Mario and Pokémon etc. You know things that appeal to children. Then I popped this game in and was swept away to different place, a much more darker place.
The graphics of this game of the game are great so I rated them an 8, I would have given them a 9 or a 10 if the background was more interactive I guess you could say. I just found some of the backgrounds a little boring, but they looked really good nonetheless. The sound was interesting, I rated it a 6 because as interesting as it was nothing really stuck out to me and hearing the main character making those noises when he jumps got on my nerves after a while. There were however a few rooms that I had encountered that had an awesome song to it and often found it stuck in my head.
The addictiveness of this game I rated an 8, I loved it and didn't want to put it down..until I got my hands on the next Pokémon game that is. I do however think that if there were no other games to distract me I would play this title all the time. I had a wonderful time when I first played it and still do whenever I pick it back up. The story I had to give a 7, because in my opinion it was kind of generic. As said before your enemy is Dracula, who has been reborn by a cult and by a cult I mean a strange woman. He kidnaps your master and now you and your rival must traverse through Dracula's castle and find him, however your rival is not to thrilled with you being in the castle so whenever he sees you, he is always telling you to leave. And you must stop Dracula before the full moon appears or he'll sacrifice your master and take over the world. The castle is filled with enemy's though, so getting to him will not be easy.
When it comes to the depth I rated this game a 9, the map is huge especially for a gameboy advance game. I was amazed at how much of rooms I had discovered when I started and how big it was. There are a few secret rooms to, however they are not as secret as you may think. Once you started uncovering rooms on your map you will see the secret rooms and can easily get to them and find out what is inside. The difficulty I rated a 7, the game can be challenging when it comes to trying to get to a new place or room or when fighting bosses. But other than that the game is not that hard, especially if you have experience with beat 'em up games.
Circle of the moon is a great game, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the darker side of games, or vampires and I mean real vampires. There is no team Edward here. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this review and will stick around and read my next one whenever it will show, till next review.
