Trapped in a World of Illusion slimzimkin
World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is a fascinating game with an iconic Disney cast. The game starts with our heroes practicing for a magic act at a performance theater when Donald trips and discovers a magical box . Mickey suggests not using the box for the act due to a strange glow emitting from within but Donald eagerly jumps in and then... poof! Mickey goes in to inspect when the curtain flutters and Mickey vanishes as well. They hear a voice in the distance tell them that the must defeat him to get back to their world.
The graphics are pretty good with lush backgrounds. Enemies will fade out when attacked and turn into flowers and some smoothly disperse. On one specific level, lightning strikes brilliantly while rain pours down. Another spot in the game has the duo flying through fluffy clouds, in front and behind. Not to mention the wonderful color scheme that has bosses stand out and makes your magic spell shine.
If you play alone with either Mickey or Donald, you'll notice that each character will have they're own parts of levels. For instance, Mickey has a more extensive first level and Donald at one point is at a beach during the second level. But if given the chance, it's much better to play with a friend! The same goes for 2P mode when I say there is different spots to go; as a duo, you both navigate through a mining level with a two-bucket see-saw like mine cart. But no matter what mode or what player you choose, the game story is pretty well connected leading to the same final boss. After beating a level, there's a little cut-scene showing how Mickey and Donald learn a new magic spell that advances them to the next. The transition between levels are sometimes funny when notice; like after swimming in an endless ocean, it turns out you pop out of a fish bowl on to a tube of toothpaste and are in a house!
As for depth and difficulty, there's not much to say. The depth is fair for any Sega game at the time. For the type of game that it is, I'd say the depth is perfect; not too much and certainly to too little. It's nice to play each character alone to get their story and then both to see how that differs. (I may be mistaken but I think the depth of the 2P mode is just a bit greater.) The game is not too difficult and some bosses are pretty easy but that doesn't take away from anything. Difficulty doesn't matter that much for this game when you're playing with someone!
So overall, I give this game a 7.7 and feel good about that. This is one of the first games I've played and it pushed me into other games starring Mickey Mouse, like Mickey Mania and The Great Circus Mystery. I recommend it for anyone, young or old, boy or girl, Disney fan or not. I guarantee a fun time for any first time players!

A magic adventure full of fun and weirdness, lolid23
Ok, imagine this: you are a 4-7 years old kid, you LOVE watching really funny cartoons such as Spongebob, Tom and Jerry and Mickey Mouse cartoons (as well as his movies), you started playing fun video games recently and you find a video game where you can play as Mickey and Donald Duck (this game), you play it, but you find it REALLY difficult and get stuck somewhere in the game, you keep trying but always lose at the same part until you give up, then you grow up and turn into a 13-15 years old teen and you are good at most video games now, you play this game again and you clear it with both characters and you feel really happy, well, that is exactly what just happened to me, I played this game when I was a little kid and now I finally cleared it after so many tries, clearing a video game you couldn't finish in the past feels really happy, I can say that without doubting it, anyway, this is my review.
Story: the story is about Mickey and Donald preparing themselves for a magic show they'll perform, a strange looking door is on the stage, then Donald thinks that using it for a magic trick would be a good idea, Mickey of course, disagrees and says that using would be a really bad idea, Donald, however, doesn't listen to what Mickey said and goes in when...POOF, Donald disappears completely, Mickey then goes in too and he disappears too, as he (apparently) falls, he hears an evil, echoing laughter and sees a familiar looking evil magician (the magician is apparently a magician version of Pete) that challenges Mickey and tells him that he (and Donald) will never leave his world until he defeats him, and that's how the adventure begins, Mickey/Donald also learn a few new magic tricks during their adventure, and that makes it better.
Graphics: most of the things in this game look AWESOME when compared to most Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games, the graphics of this game are VERY good for a Genesis/Mega Drive game, the introduction for example. features pseudo 3D objects and most of the stages in the game look awesome too.
Sound: Some sounds are 8-bit sounds and that is not good, but at least most of the sounds are good and sound normal, as for the music...well, that is the reason why I'm giving the sound a 9, there are a few REALLY awesome tracks in this game, some tracks are one of the best video game tracks you will ever hear, the music that plays at the last part right before the final boss is, without any doubt, one of the most relaxing video game tracks you will ever hear.
Addictiveness: this game may not be as fun as other games like Sonic the Hedgehog. but is a fun game, is at least funner than Mickey's Ultimate Challenge.
Depth: if you are really good at platform video games OR have lost many times in this game, then this game shouldn't be a problem and you should finish it in less than two hours, if not, you will use many hours to finish it.
Difficulty: most of the game is not very hard, however, there are two or three parts in this game that give a lot of trouble, the part where Donald rides a leaf is hard, if you fall on the water, you lose a life, and areas like those (along with my lack of experience at video games as a kid) are the reason why this game couldn't be cleared.
Overall, I give this game a 9.6 because I (and I bet that many other people as well) feel nostalgia when I play it, has good, famous characters, has awesome music, and is weird and funny... a little maybe, but is still funny, I mean, being on a world made of candy and fighting birds with a pen as a beak is weird...and somehow, funny...

Fun~ disneydiva86
I remember being 8 or 9 playing this for the first time and I could never get past the third stage (spider webs) and I'm still rubbish at it, but it's so much fun! It's definitely worth playing, the graphics are HQ, which is a plus. It's definitely a challenge...and if anyone would ever post a tutorial, I know I'd definitely appreciate it, ha. No, but seriously, give it a shot. Classic cartoons, a fun adventure, if you have time, this game is most definitely worth your time. Save your passwords though! I have a hard time saving, so if anyone knows how--let me know!
