Smash T.V Redrunelord
One of the greatest flaws of humans is an inexplicable greed that can manifest itself into a simple ferocity that is almost beyond the concept of “humanity.” Indeed, greed can turn even the most sane human into savage monsters should the degree be great enough. Sometimes, greed will spread in a manner others will lose sight of humanity should an opportunity that can benefit themselves arise among the cacophony. A good example of this is the show “Survivor,” because the show essentially resolves a group of people who will go to the extremes for a cash prize, and the hosts can prosper immensely by showing these extremes. Regardless of entertainment value in watching these extremities of greed, it is still exactly that: greed, for both the players, and the hosts.
It is very likely that this desire for more has fascinated the directors of “The Running Man” which may later proved to be the primary influence for Eugene Jarvis. Eugene Jarvis is the brains that were behind the arcade game “Robotron 2084” where The Terminator is reality: Judgement day comes, and machines wishes to replace humans with robots. It was an interesting game, released on numerous consoles over the years, but how could Mr. Jarvis keep the concept fresh? He repackaged the controls, and put the game play style in a blender with “The Running Man” which gives birth to “Smash T.V.
Smash TV would be a friendly reminder to anyone who has played Robotron 2084. However, for players who have yet to experience that game, the basic premise is to eliminate all the enemies to advance to the boss, and win grand prizes like big cash and well made toasters. This particular documentation will focus primarily on the SNES port, but will also refer to its Sega 16 bit counterpart as both versions were technically rivals.
Firstly the story...to begin with, as this is an arcade port, there is virtually no need for a story. The lack of explanation but high focus on accomplishing the vague goals in arcade games is a huge part of their raw charm. Nonetheless, this game do have a story as is given to the player every time they loads the game. It is fair from remarkable...if it was released today as a complicated story for video gaming. However, as it is an arcade title, the story is perfect, if largely irrelevant.
Visually, the game is outstanding. There are virtually no issues with trying to see what is going on due to the contrast levels being sufficient, but not painful to watch for a while. It is an excellent arcade conversion for both the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo, and even the two 8 bit console ports don't look bad. The SNES version do stand out a bit more because it is slightly more colorful and appealing to the eye, but that factor is larger subjective and for the player to decide. Regardless, both games got solid graphics for this arcade port. The audio is similar to the graphics in that they made an excellent conversion to the console ports. The guns, explosions and occasional screams are all perfect for their intent of atmosphere. The SNES port do have an advantage over the Genesis version in the audio department because it uses voice acting with acceptable clarity (at the very least significantly better than the Intellivision voice add on from about a decade prior). However, both ports got a solid soundtrack that does not bring the contestant to their knees.
If the visuals and sound do not cripple the rather daring "gladiator," then perhaps how they are controller will. The game utilizes dual thumb-stick style controls, where one controls the protagonist's movement with one and the other controls where they aims and fires. This game was originally meant to be on an arcade machine, so the transition to a controller without analog sticks is awkward, to say the least (let alone on a keyboard). It works better with this version over the genesis as there are more buttons to work with, but that is also subjective as far as preference goes, and both versions still got similar issues with strafing. This is definitely a game some sort of duel arcade sticks or outside controller with analog controls is doubtlessly recommended. However, if the controls are not an issue then it is a fairly fluid, solid game. Since a large number of mindless drones (for all purposes intended) charge at the player, it brings up a significant amount of difficulty that is common for well made arcade games.
Indeed, normally games like this starts off easy then progresses to being unforgiving challenging, but since Smash T.V might lose ratings, they opted to make it hard as possible. The first difficulty, as mentioned, is mastering the controls but even then it is still a challenging game to those unaccustomed to arcade titles. Unlike Robotron 2084, the weapons are pathetically weak on the whole against the hordes of hostiles, and upgrades only last for a limited time. The game could theoretically never end, unlike in the arcade, due to a continue system being added which is absolutely necessary for beginners even on easy. It is, however, a very legitimate difficulty that is common for games of the time period, so the difficulty is actually perfect in that respect.
The SNES port do have on problem though: items are a lot harder to pick up than in the Genesis port. It is not because of a complicated item grabbing system (it's just simple run over and grab by touching it) but because sometimes the game will not let the player go to where the items falls, plus the items vanishes very quickly. The Genesis version, while having a quick item vanishment, isn't as bad as the SNES port and the player can grab all of the items lying around (mainly prize money and the occasional weapon).
In conclusion, is this game worth looking at? If the player enjoys any arcade games, and is looking for a challenge that will last, then Smash T.V is strongly recommended. At the end of the day, Smash T.V is a 90's version of Robotron 2084 and various other games of that styling from the 80's. It made several good console ports then and is available through Xbox Live in the modern day of age (as of this documentation). If the player wishes to proceed they better, in the words of AC/DC, "pick up their balls, load up their cannons for a 21 gun salute" for Eugene Jarvis deserves said for making this excellent title.

Smash T.V. SNES jojo3585
A great game that has been known for it's addictiveness. When I first played this game as a kid I was addicted and determined to beat it. This version is way better than the Genesis version. In my opinion this is one of the best games that ever been made and has earned it's way into the hall of classics. The creator had a great idea when he made this game. The boss fights are great especially Scar face while battling him you will lose at least 3 credits and if you're not real careful GAME OVER. The only problem I have is that Mutoid Man and M.C. Boss always get in your way of getting power ups but now that I think about it, it just makes it tougher to beat them. The graphics are pretty good but that was a whole different generation before Nintendo 64 and Playstation came and changed the whole gaming world. The sounds do deserve a 10 in my book because when you die the crowd cheers and when you think you defeated a boss they'll tell you "No way" the gun fire is good too. The story to this game is kind of lame but it gets straight to the point on what you got to do and it has many paths you can take to beat the game, each is tougher than the one before. I like how the host tries to talk trash in certain rooms you go into. So in conclusion if you don't believe me then give the game a shot and you'll see that it can be addictive and fun. In one of the words of the host "Big, money, big prizes.......I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Money prizes? How can it get any better SuperCrash64
Ah the shooters we love them, and play the heck out of them.Of course there was many great shooters,The main selling point of shooters back then, and now was they were fun great ,and challenging. A good example of a great shooter is this 1 right here for the Super Nintendo: Super Smash T.V,and You can also play the Sega Genesis version and arcade 1 on this site, but anyways I'm gonna mainly focus on the Super Nintendo version now. The snes version is great 1 especially if you enjoyed the original arcade game. This game would later also have a squeal called Total Carnage which was also good on the snes. How great can possibly Super Smash T.V be? Find out in this review of it.
Plot and storyline. The storyline can be seen after a few seconds has passed the title screen, but anyways it starts out saying,The year is 1999 Television has adapted to the more violent nature of man. The most popular form of television remains the game show. One show in particular that has dominated the ratings that show is Smash T.V. The most violent game show of all time. Be prepared. The future is now. You are the next lucky contestant! That means you,and perhaps a friend is to compete against each other to be the more wealthier man the objective/goal is to collect money, and prizes, while blasting you're fury destructive ammo at the crazy enemies, and bosses getting ready to slaughter you in about 15 seconds or less depending on how skilled you are at this game. and at the end of this game you get you're total amount of money from the prizes collected"aka" you're total highscore. in order to finish this game you need to first Make sure mutoid man is totally dead. 2 make scarface have no eyeballs "aka"making him blind. 3 make cobros totally fangless"aka leaving them without teeth, then after that you have to destory Evil m.C which is basically just a harder version of mutoid man,but not that much harder. Anyways that's the plot and storyline of Super Smash T.V I'll rate it a 7
Graphics: Really taking a look at the 3 versions of Smash T.V. Like a lot of other games that were both on genesis and snes. The Super Nintendo version Is graphically superior,as the main difference is the Genesis version looks more like a graphical update of the nes version of Smash T.V. Where the Super Nintendo version Looks more or nonetheless the Arcade version. In other words The snes version looks more atheunic to it's arcade counterpart, and looks like it almost could be an exact duplicate of the arcade version too. The real only difference I spotted between the snes version and the arcade version of Smash T.V in graphics is in the snes version is some of the background and bosses are a bit more flattended and streched out,but other besides that they look graphically the same. so that can already tell you how great this version looks. (sprites: All glorious and soon to be wealthy contestants are here they look good and the images are just completely almost the same, which is a good thing for a snes game. the characters have a good amount of detail and look very good on the 16 bit system. (animation: compared to the genesis version the snes version has more frames during the character speech like good luck you'll need it,and the animation is not bad at all if I say so myself. The animation really looks smooth great and flows along with the characteristics neatly and nicely. (Stages: Look great here as everything is bright colorful and accurate to the original arcade version. With many chains of detail during the stages which are basically locked arenas. I really like how bad they look and I mean bad in a good way. this game looks really great here. Graphics rating 10
Sound : good sound vairety when compared to the arcade version, because you have most of you're basic sound effects. When shooting blasting the junk out of you're enemies and the classic ugh with you're character dieing and the crows aww in disappointment That sound effect and the others make for some really good times, when playing with friends and others etc. (Soundtrack. The soundtrack actually is much better then the arcade version, and the reason why is because the songs just sound so much more killer and beaten up. many themes from the arcade version were changed, but I would say it's a change for the better. The cobros stage would be an example where it was all a jungle like theme, Now it's more like you're in a jungle getting away from a huge dinosuar or something at least from what theme feels like. As for the rest of the themes some are rather just missing or incorrectly placed Such as The winning/Evil M.c theme. The themes overall sound pretty good and are a great arranged version of the themes the arcade version used. Even the beginning theme where it was all dark and had great bass. It now has more of a game show feel which works better for this game. Sound rating 10 out of 10
Addictiveness. Known for its extremely hard difficulty and fun challenge with incredible sounds Super Smash T.V makes a great fun and addicting shooter In my opinion it's more addicting to me then something like contra. I mean the overall difficulty pushes You to some frustration here and there, but that's what makes the game add to its charm and overall reason the game is addicting. Addictiveness rating 8
Depth: Now I may have said Super Smash T.V Is an addicting shooter, but its definitely a shooter that won't really be long. Because in depth yea, this game is pretty weak in depth. Now the game for me takes like generally a few hours to beat. I mean each course is filled with enemies and bosses to take down And that's a good thing because the bosses are solid medium like difficult as for taking on like 50 enemies at once yeah that may take a little bit and that's pretty hard to do.but the game in depth is only four levels long. Which can be beaten with a good amount of skill. Depth rating 6
Difficulty I've mentioned how hard it can be taking on those bosses and enemies at the depth section. So that's honestly the main challenge and that is quite hard, because you don't just take on like 1 bracket of 50 enemies. No You take on like maybe 5 or 10 depending on which level you are at. And beware the number of enemies will increase during time, because the game punishes you quite a lot so that may get frustrating at some points. Difficulty rating I feel it deserves at least an 8 because the beginning is not too harsh, but it will punish You much more often at the later on stages.
Overall:When coming down to Something like Smash T.V,and others you have a heck of a challenge to go through, but in the end it's generally fun and worth a try. as for the snes version it will fit you're needs 100 percent especially if you like the original arcade game. Overall rating 8.9
