Star Soldier "Unvanishing Memories"Ahh Star Soldier I remember picking this game up as a child thinking huh this look interesting as I looked at the box art. Then when I started playing the game I was blown away by both the soundtrack and gameplay they were outstanding for the time, but let's get into the review now shall we.
Graphics: 8/10- The Graphics weren't the best compared to games like Zelda Ocarina Of Time but they weren't that shabby as well. The details of the maps, ships, bosses, enemies, and special attacks were very great for the time, it's a good example than not every single game needs perfect graphics to make a great game.
Story: 7/10- The story is basically that the earth was under attack due to a military force from a planet named Zeograd, the planet was facing near destruction so the Special Interception Airforce (SIA) so they send out a star craft named F89-Star Solider Fighter Craft to intercept the forces of the planet Zeograd. It was win or lose but losing would mean the total annihilation of both the Earth and the complete extinction of mankind. Not exactly the story that draws you in but not one that draws you away from it either so a 7 out of 10 in deserved here.
Sound: 10/10 - Like I stated in the beginning when I first put this game into my Nintendo 64 as a kid I was completely blown away by the soundtrack. The music fits the atmosphere for each stage perfectly as it makes you have the adrenaline rush that you feel powerful against any odds faced at you and makes you feel like you can beat the stage without any problems at all. A great touch leading it to gain a score of 10 out of 10
Difficulty: 7/10- Now I must state that if you haven't played this game before it may be very difficult for you at the beginning but later when you get in some practice it really isn't all that difficult. I remember as I usually couldn't make it through 50 seconds of the 6th mission in the game but now I have no problem now most of the time high difficulty is usually a bad thing and will make people stop playing but in this games case the high difficulty for newcomers of this game actually draw the player into continuing the stages no matter how many times they might lose. It's a great positive that makes this game have a great charm to it so 7 out of 10 is needed here as well.
Depth: 10/10- Like is stated in the difficulty section since this game makes you wanna keep playing even when you lose it makes the player use alot of time in trying to finish the game. Not only that but once you finish the game you can also try playing the game again to see if you can find the secret levels in the game So 10 out of 10 is in place here.
Addictiveness: 10/10- The addictiveness level in this game is VERY high as no matter how many time I play or beat this game I always find myself coming back to play it over and over again. The bosses, the music, the levels, the secrets, they all just keep me interested everytime I put the game inside my N64. The secret level were very hard for me to know how to get to them as I only discovered 1 of them during my youth and it was by pure luck most of the time but as I matured I was able to find out the trick to entering the last 2 secret stages. I guarantee that you will come back to play this game time and time again so 10 out of 10 is the score that the game gets for addictiveness.
So that's Star Soldier Vanishing Earth for the Nintendo 64. It was a great game when it first came out an it is still a great game today and it holds a special place in my heart as I have many child-hood memories of this game. Whether your a space shooter fan or not you should give this game a chance and see what you think about it cause I know I love the heck out of it. This is one game that shall defiantly not Vanish from this Earth.
