Dragon Quest VIII : Journey of The Cursed King Review
Story 8 out of 10: Its about a young man, you will have to name him at the beginning. So call him whatever that you wish, and then the game will start. There will be a cutscene of what happened to the castle. The story is beyond amazing to play. You will enjoy it, that’s if you love RPG games. Yes, that’s right. This one is too, is an RPG game. But, if it is going to be your fist time playing the game, it will be a bit funny for you at first, because of how it is laid out to be like. You will grow to like it in time as you progress more. I’ve re played this so many times, as I have completed it as well. I won’t say what happens but, I will say there are two endings to this game. I really love the story mode and I enjoy playing it as you can see. ^-^
Graphics 8 out of 10: This game resembles blue dragon and DBZ in a way, which is why I love it. The people who created this game also made dark cloud, dragon quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, Professor Layton series that’s for those who know Ace Attorney, they also made the anime Inazuma Eleven series which shocked me. I knew the game resembled some games and anime. But to see others such as inazuma eleven, that was so surprising. And it has that 3d dimensional look in a way. As odd as it may look, I think it gives an interesting graphic. And it is great, because it resembles what you like in a way.
Sound 8 out of 10: The music is great to listen too. The main theme is a bit like ff7. You know in that game that the main theme plays, when you are on world map? It’s the same as in dragon quest 8. Though it tends to play over and over, you won’t get bored of it surprisingly. They play other soundtracks too as well. They are also nice to listen to. This isn’t your average, normal game music that you would hear. It has its own uniqueness, which is something that you won’t always find in other games.
Addictiveness 7 out of 10: This is another game that IS addicting. How? They have a casino there, which has rare equipment for your characters, and there are also other helpful things. I normally play the slot machine, and it seriously feels like as if I am in Las Vegas playing a real one. Its so fun and draw pulling as well. Theres also the alchemy as well, for that one you would want to cook useful items, equipment and more.
Depth 8 out of 10: Theres a lot of depth in this game. The main character of who you would be playing as wouldn't know so much about his past and such. But when you complete the game the first time, that’s when his storyline will come in. So like you will be taken to other secret and hidden areas. And when that happens, be very prepared for what you will be facing, and where you will be headed. You will end up finding out about so many things which will surprise you. Like I said in the story section, that you have to complete dragon quest 8 two times, as both have different endings. Oh theres something so cool that I have to say. When you use this move called *Buff* that increases your attack, keep buffing and don’t attack until it reaches *100* when the hero reaches that, he turns super sayian. Seriously I thought I was looking at goku for a moment, and my eyes blinked so much to that. @_@
Difficulty 8 out of 10: It starts off easy then it will get much harder. It is much harder than it looks, like when you have to go to a certain destination, most people will find it hard to figure that out. As most places are not that easy to find, but when you do get the world map, that will be a big help to you. So use it to your advantage, and the bosses are not so easy to deal with as well. The first boss that you face is annoying to beat. So this game isn’t that easy to play, it has a lot of challenges and puzzled to be solved.
Overall 9.5: This is a great game to play. The gameplay is great and awesome. Some might not like it, as all great games like this would not always please people. Either way, I love how this is portrayed in a way. I recommend to give this a try, that’s if you are up to the challenge, that is.
