Aliens (World set 1) Review by: BtotheH - 7.5/10
AliensAliens. A review by BtotheH.
Okay let's get this review on the way. First off this game Is more enjoyable If you are a fan of the Alien movies. I have to admit that I am a little biased because I am a fan of the genre, knowing this I will try to be as non biased as possible.
Overall: 7.5
Not really a high score overall. I felt the game would be a lot better If It had more dialogue, voice effects and more weapons. The game play Is easy enough though, no jumping, just walk to get up on a higher platform. Plus In the game their are only a couple of boards that you can choose to fight on the bottom level or top level. Regardless of my scoring I really felt this Is a cool game because It followed the exact same story line as the second Alien movie. The enemies are the same as the movie as well as some new ones. Smooth game play and pretty difficult without continuing.

The graphics on this game Is actually okay for a 1985 arcade game. This version has a lot of the original aliens as well as some new additions. The levels are nicely detailed and colourful with aliens coming out of vent ducks, ceilings and sewers. In the background on some boards are people that have been strung up and infected by the aliens and when you walk by them they shudder and an alien will burst through their chest, very cool! Your character Is well pixelated as well as your enemies and boss aliens. Also In the second movie Ripley was a loading dock worker using a robot loader, this too Is In this game, super cool. This Is why the Aliens arcade game deserves an 8.
Sound:7
To be honest I was a little disappointed with the sound effects on this game. Don't get me wrong, the background music Is mediocre but matches the game. I was more disappointed with the lack of voice effects, (their are none). When your character gets hit she just makes a grunt sound, which Is better then nothing. The aliens make a little screeching noise and that Is about all, nothing special, so again at least It Is better then nothing at all.
Addictiveness:5
Really after beating the game their Is no reason to play It again unless you just are a fanatic. I found no secret rooms, just pretty much a straight through playing experience. So yea, I gave It a five.
Story:8
I really liked the story on this game. A tough woman rescuing a little survivor girl while decimating a hoard of nasty aliens all by herself. This version follows the story of the second Installment of the Aliens movies,( which I thought was an awesome story line).
Depth:7
Not too much depth on this one. Straight through play action and only about two different guns and a couple of different super bombs. No cut scenes and very little dialogue. The only reason why I felt the depth deserves a seven Is because It has about six or seven levels, each with a unique boss character.
Difficulty:9
For me personally I think this game can suck quarters faster then you can say " can I get some change?" Really If someone can beat this game with little or no continues, then I greatly admire them. Most times your character moves a little slower then I would like. You have two different stances when you shoot, standing up shooting and you can crouch down and shoot but your character moves even slower. The aliens come non stop, sometimes you can just evade them and sometimes they will come after you making you have to shoot them down. I had to continue about 12 or more times to beat the game. Although relatively simple game play the aliens really swarm on you and sometimes It Is hard to evade them because your character moves a little slow. Same thing with the boss characters, most of the time It Is hard not to get hit and It takes a lot of energy from you.
