Have you guys ever had a job where you are completely miserable and never want to go back ever again?

I'm not quite at that point however it seems to be where it is headed. My place of employment recently went under new management and it seemed pretty good for the first year and a half or so but then things just seemed to start to change. I guess you could probably say the honey-moon period is now over. So many people have started to quit, a lot of people I don't really know or talk with but some of my best friends who work with me are beginning to leave too. I guess it's the way things go. My one buddy is leaving for a good reason though because he found a much better job and he's moving very far away but that's good for him, I can't complain.

It's not just about how the people I like are leaving, I feel as though management have become very rude towards their employees as of late. I've just noticed sarcastic comments being made and are just short in general towards their employees (To both me and fellow employees). It just all seems like a tense environment to be in. Another issue I have is that I work the open shift so I have to make sure everything is up and running properly in the morning, and it has for some reason gotten SO busy (This is in the service industry, I won't say what store but you probably all would now of it ) that I have trouble prepping everything in the morning because my second guy that comes in, he can't handle everything with the occasional help from me while I'm preparing everything for lunch. This is where I get frustrated because I will have to help out making orders to ensure we don't get scolded at for not making food fast enough, but then, we will get scolded at for not having all of our lunch preparation done at a certain time. I have brought it up to management that we need at least one other employee scheduled at that time but they usual give a dumb reason why they can't and then they never do it.

I'm very unsure if I should leave, there is one manager that I know really appreciates what I do for them as he has told me before but I know it won't be for long because they rotate out certain people who work at the store to other stores in the area so I know I won't be working under him for much longer. Irregardless I don't think that is a strong enough reason to stay. I also don't know where else I will find a job because it has been seemingly difficult for other people that I know to find jobs.

Anyways, that's the end of my rant! Thank you for reading all of that and why don't you share some of your stories about some job that aggravated you!

I feel somewhat the same way with my current job. I work in the shoe department of Kohl's (a retail store) and almost always work the closing shift. I wouldn't say I'm miserable, but my store is severely short-staffed, and the employees that we do have are often divided between their department and working as backup on the registers, sometimes for hours on end if we get a sudden surge of customers. I've only worked here a year, so I don't know what the store was like in the past, but it seems like every 10 minutes, we are constantly hounded for credits, reminded that our store is performing poorly, and that we need to solicit credit to every customer we check out. Since I really don't like to nag people to sign up for something, I only occasionally solicit credit to customers I think I have a good chance of convincing.

On top of all the credit hounding, there are the customers, many of them get upset when they can't stack several percent off discounts for maximum savings (our store only allows one percent off per purchase). I had one lady bring up a few t-shirts on sale for a grand total of $15, and she was furious that she couldn't use expired kohl's cash from July (at most, we are able to accept kohl's cash 10 days past the expiration date), she then proceeded to have me remove all of her shirts from the purchase, and stormed out. This type of customer is not uncommon in our store.Overall, the customers can be downright rude and take advantage of the "the customer is always right" mindset that comes with retail. The icing on the cake is the lack of concern the customers show for keeping the department semi-clean. Each day is met with stacks of boxes piled beside the benches, trash and plastic strewn around the aisle, half finished milkshake containers, old socks, you name it. Someone in the kid's department claimed coming across a used diaper in one of the stalls (that is just downright ridiculous and disgusting). You could make the argument that it's our job to keep the departments clean, and it is, but it is also our job to be able to help the customers and answer any questions they may have, something that becomes increasingly difficult to do with one more distraction competing for our attention.

While I am incredibly happy to have a job where I feel safe (no complaints there), I, and many other associates simply feel underappreciated and are often seen as little more than credit machines most of the time. I think once the really busy season is over, I'll probably look for employment elsewhere because things have just been growing steadily worse as of late. There was a point where I wanted to transfer to a Kohl's much closer to home, but I don't think I'm ready to possibly throw myself into the exact same position all over again.

I have been working for 31 years at 4 different places on which 2 went out of business my first job was at a restaurant where I was a dishwasher for 15 years until they closed the place where I was working but at least the managers had a meeting to tell us that the head office was about to close the place we were working at so we all had a chance to find another job then I went to a department store for nine years until the head office gave us all a letter telling us that they were going to close the store and although I haven,t came across any real bad bosses so far I find that sometimes it,s not the bosses that cause the problems but the head office such as now where I currently work the head office decided to change our time clock that we use for clocking in even though there was nothing wrong with the old one and it was also easier to use and now because of the new time clock everyone is having trouble with it, another thing that head office did was at a time when the store I work at used to be open 24 hours(they no longer are due to too many thefts) the head office decided that in order to make things easier for the customers that all the display cases should be left unlocked then after the store lost thousands of dollars worth of merchandise head office told us to start locking up the display cases again

I'm at a job right now that I don't really love. It's good enough that I'm not trying actively to leave but I would like to do something else.

I did have a job that was so bad that I would cry at the end of the day when I got home because my boss was so bad to be around. He basically set me up for failure around every turn and then berated me when I failed. It was horrible but only lasted a few months before I found something else.

no8120: I can relate to that head office problem as well actually. Every now and then we'll have someone from HO come to inspect our store and literally everyone is on edge because you never know what they are going to do or what they are going to say. Not to mention management gets really stressed out because their pay reflects how well the store is running which makes them incredibly strict when we have someone over from head office.

geeogree : That sounds awful. Could you have reported him to a labor board or something? At least you're out of that position.

MoblinGardens : I'm not really sure what I could prove though honestly. Everything was done in such a way that I would have very little evidence of what he was doing.

I imagine I wasn't the first person he did this to. He seemed to know exactly when to say things and when not to so that no one really saw what was going on.

And yeah, I got out of it as soon as I could. Staying at a place like that can really mess you over. It took months for my confidence to come back at the next job I had. Thankfully things happened that helped me but I was really apprehensive at first.

I would say the most miserable Job I had was my very first Job.

My very first Job was at McDonalds. Let me tell you it was miserable. First of all I worked during the summer while I was off from school. With the grills and fryers going it was hot inside as it was on the outside. Also we would get a lot of tour buses. Some of the people were nasty as they would throw their food on the floor on purpose so we would have to clean it.

Second my boss was a total jerk. When they found out I had a disability they cut my hours down from 20 hours to just 8 hours. The manager made me and other workers feel like we all could not do anything right. She stayed on our case all the time despite us all working hard. One day they had me working in the evening. Now at that time I could not drive at night as on my drivers license. But my hours that night was from 5 PM-9 PM. At 8:40 I started to get my things read. I politely told my boss that I needed to leave so I could be home before dark since it was on my drivers license.

She said well you can't leave yet. I replied I have to If I get stop by the police and its dark I could get into trouble. I will gladly come in earlier but I have got to get home before dark. She said a few cuss words at me and started to mock me. That is when I lost it and lowered the boom on her. The Next day the head boss called me into the office. Told me that I could either quit or I would be fired. I tried to tell the top boss what had happened. But he took the side of the manager instead of me. I gladly turned in my uniform.

I never went back to work there again. The only thing I regret is not filing a civil lawsuit. Of course I was young and did not know my rights back then. But I wish I would have known I would have sued for violation of my civil rights.
