Here's a question for all of you. At some conventions, people hold human chess games. Pretty much, you get to become a piece on a giant chessboard. XD

If you could become a piece on a chessboard, what piece would you choose to be and why? Also, what color would you choose for yourself?

King - The King must be protected at all costs. Any threat to it must be removed before the game can continue (the King must move out of check). The King is arguably the most important piece on the chessboard, even if it can only move one step at a time in any direction. Once checkmate occurs, the entire game ends.

Queen - Generally considered to be one of the most powerful and formidable pieces, the Queen is known for being able to move several steps in any direction (the Queen just can't move like a Knight). With high mobility, the Queen can often reach and seize control of areas of the chessboard that other pieces may not be able to reach half as quickly or be able to exert half as much influence. There is a reason why most every piece has a twin or clones, but the Queen can stand alone.

Bishop - Bishops can move along the diagonals of the chessboard, along whatever color of the squares they stand on. One will always move along the white diagonals while the other will only move along the black diagonals. When paired together to control both the black and white diagonals, the Bishops can be quite lethal and influential, both for guarding and attacking. They are much like laser beams, able to quickly cut through the cracks of any defense.

Knight - Knights have the special ability to jump over other pieces, and thus they are also highly mobile although they don't tend to move as quickly as Queens. Because they don't move in straight lines or along diagonals, they are fully capable of wreaking havoc on any area of the chessboard to which they choose to maneuver. The fact that they often have at least 8 choices in terms of where they can jump makes them highly efficient and effective in terms of control and range. In essence, they are great multitaskers.

Rook - Rooks are the great defenders, towering over friend and foe alike. They are so adept at defending that they can even swap places once with the King (if certain conditions have been met), using the special ability called Castling, which no other piece possesses. Rooks are very direct and they can rush rapidly along straight lines to obliterate their targets. Give them the chance to move side by side and the pair of Rooks could become the most indestructible attackers or defenders of the entire board.

Pawn - Pawns may often be overlooked due to their simple and innocent appearances, but make no mistake, they are each cornerstones in their own right. Hidden within each Pawn is the potential to become something far greater. They never regret anything and never look back once they have advanced, and when marching forward together with other Pawns, they can create formidable barriers until they are able to reach the edge of the chessboard, on the opponent's side. Once they reach the end, their journey has officially just begun because at that point, they can level up/change jobs to become any piece with the exception of the King. Pawns embody the hope of every chess player and they represent the hidden potential of every living being.

That said, what piece(s) on the chessboard do you identify with the most?

I'm sure other people have a different perception of me, but I'd be a knight. In the hands of the right player or boss, I'm absolutely lethal, and a threat to opponents, and thus, a highly valuable piece. In the hands of the wrong player or boss, I'm wasted potential, completely useless, and a bigger threat to my own team than anything.

Additionally, I view myself as incredibly versatile, the only piece able to jump over other pieces, I take this to mean I always have unrestricted movement, and able to do something that might be a little outside the box, unafraid of breaking norms and perceptions.

While I do not have the firepower of a queen, or the importance of a king, nor an effective tag team partner to be a great bishop, I do have the ability to multitask unlike anyone else, often times able to maneuver myself into the perfect position to attack or defend.

I think the knight, much like myself, is the single most underrated piece in the game of chess, and in life.

I would want to be the Queen. Think of it,it can do all kinds of damage even in the hands of an unskilled player. (Even though I am a guy and I would look hideous in a dress, lol.) That is why anytime I play Pure Chess on my PS3,I try to ensure at least one of my pawns makes it to the board to be a Queen. Then you can cause all kinds of havoc. I would pick black,it is my favorite color.

I would probably be a Rook. Your Rooks are like the kings personal bodyguards. They never really get in the fray or do much, but just the fact that they're there makes things harder for the other side. They're like sniper nests.

The knight, as I played a lot of chess when I was a little younger and always found these to be the best pieces. Also, that I have the enemy team in a way that it looks like I'm moving straight, but then BOOM! I move in the other direction at the last moment and put your king in check ;-).

I think I would be a rook. In life, I generally try my best to move forward, work very hard, and keep up good grades and do a good job in my part time jobs.

But then I have my weaknesses. Often I am shy and nervous (especially if it's a presentation in front of a big class or being around people I don't know). Occasionally I feel so tired from work that I almost lose motivation to keep going for a while. Sometimes I am lazy and I procrastinate a bit in finishing homework. This would imply me not being able to move diagonally on the board, especially when I'm in the occasional hard situation where moving forward, back, or sideways won't help me much on the board for a while.

(I haven't played chess in a while. Hopefully I remember how a rook works XD)

EDIT: Oh forgot about the color. I guess I would choose white since I am not a big fan of not being able to see in the dark. lol (Actually the color doesn't really matter to me. I can't think of a better reason to say other than not seeing in the dark. XD)

I'm think I'm most simpatico with the characteristics of the knight piece. I consider myself to be a fairly dynamic person with a broad variety of interests. I'm not one to settle on a set path very easily, and am always looking for another turn in the road. I'm also pretty good at jumping! lol
I admire the gentle soft shade that is white, so I would choose to be a black piece. I'm not sure that will be understood.

White Knight or Black Bishop. Some of my favourite openings involve the two pieces. Not sure how relateable I am to any piece on the board but all I know is that I can create some deadly plays with those two pieces.

I also like keeping my distance from people and making my move from afar when I need to. Both pieces are versatile enough to do just that.

I'm a rook. They move aggressively, they can be great in the defense and when the board gets cleared out, they take over a role as powerful as a queen in the end. Rooks, especially working together, can wipe out entire sides of the board and control large chucks of ground. They are more powerful than the queen because most players do anything to protect the queen. Rooks are deployed late in the game and cause mayhem. I like mayhem.

My second piece would be the pawn...hold the laughter. Now,a pawn is a common foot soldier. He moves forward,a square at a time, can make a temporary barrier,or a bait piece. He can move diagonally to capture a piece which  puts his attack in another column. He can be used as a threat piece. Place him near a piece you want protected and a player may reconsider his move, lest he gets beaten by the pawn. And let us not forget his best trick, making it to the end and becoming another piece!
