Yes, I know this game is overdone, but it's the 20th aniverssary of the series, give me a break.

Pokemon FireRed is one of the most well known Pokemon games out there, and for good reason. It was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, approximately 6 years after the US release of Pokemon Red and Blue for the Game Boy. Pokemon FireRed is not just a complete copy/paste of Pokemon Red/Blue/Green. Instead, it is a complete remake that upgrades everything in the game, from graphics to mechanics. In this review, you will see why this game, along with Pokemon LeafGreen, is regarded as one of the best in the series. Let's get started.

Graphics - 9

The graphics are heavily updated compared to the originals. And when I say heavily, I mean it. No longer does Golbat look like this:

Instead, Golbat now looks like this:

Much better and less terrifying, in my opinion.

Sound - 9

One of my favorite things about Pokemon remakes is the updated soundtrack they get. The rhythm of each song that was in the originals is the same, but the soundfont they are used in gets upgraded. In the originals, you heard 8-bit tunes due to the limits of the Game Boy. But now that these games are on a more advanced system, you now hear the music with multiple instruments instead of just listening to 8-bit melodies the whole time.

Addictiveness - 9

Like with most of the other games in the series, these games can get highly addicting, due to the amount of things to do in them. There's not much I can really say about this subject, other than that you may or may not end up playing these games for hours on end.

Story - 7

I'm going to be honest here. The story doesn't really do much for me. It's not because it's almost the same exact story that was in the originals, I'm fine with that. It's just that it really doesn't do much for me, I find Team Rocket kind of bland and boring, just like in the originals. All they do is steal Pokemon, besides the part with Lavender Town in the Pokemon Tower. It just doesn't "wow" me like some of the stories in the other games in the series usually do.

Depth - 10

I briefly described the depth of these games in the addictiveness section of this review. Since there's so much to do in these games, you'll be playing them for a while. Like most of the other games in the series, you can try to catch them all, or even try out the new post-game that they added. This post-game wasn't in the originals due to hardware limitations. In the post-game, you can travel to the Sevii Islands, which have multiple things to do there, including catch Pokemon from other regions. There are about 8 islands in total, I think, so there's plenty to do after you defeat the champion.

Difficulty - 7

The difficulty of these games really depend on the team you have and if you have honed it enough. For me, the game wasn't too hard. I only had trouble with Victory Road and the Pokemon League, although it wasn't too big of a bother. With the variety of Pokemon there is to catch, many people can make many different teams to their liking, and the difficulty depends on how much they trained their team.

Overall - 9.3

Although I did give these games some mid-low scores, I set them aside, since the games in the Pokemon series are so unique that you can't really expect a good score to come out of something that's up to the player, such as difficulty. I also apologize for the mediocre review this time, I just wanted to get another review out there since I have the time. I promise you all a better review next time. Thanks for reading!

Great review man, it was short but sweet.

If I was to absolutely nitpick I would say that you didn't speak very highly of the story mode but you gave it a 7.

That's very much a nitpick though and i don't think it detracts from the review or anything just a little nitpick that's all.

Great work and I look forward to seeing your next review.

imamonster :

I gave it a 7 because I thought the story was alright, but it just doesn't do as much as the other games in the series do.

It's a pretty decent review, if a bit short. I have a few suggestions though.

For the sections I'd like it if you gave some examples and explanations. I know you did that for graphics (and I really enjoy how you used screenshots, which is something I should try doing sometime :p), but perhaps go into more detail? What constitutes for whether someone gets addicted to the game or not? What they like doing in games (which may be catching them all)? Some people don't like playing massive games with a lot to do. Will those people not get addicted? Some people get addicted through competitive battling. What about the battle system makes to fun to do competitive battling? That's basically what I'd like to see, and if you do that, I think you're reviews will definitely become better .

ZeroTails :

Yeah, I was kind of pressed for time when typing this, (that and the people in my house were loud....). I'll be sure to type up reviews at a suitable time next time so I can go into full detail.

No no no no no.... That's what they WANT you to think... Fire comes in many many different colors, depending on what's being burned. But ever since The Illuminati bought Nintendo, they've been passing along subliminal messages in they're games, turning younger and younger gamers into their puppets... Btw, if I come up dead by suicide, it's all A LIE!!!         EDIT: Just another nitpick, but the original gameboy and pocket gameboy were actually 4-bit consoles.
