It's a sad tragedy is what it is. A teenage brain is not yet fully developed, and let's face it - teenagers (I'm not going to generalize because there may be a few who don't) and even young adults take action before thinking about the consequences. What this a stupid mistake? Yes. But let's not forget that it not only affects him, but also his family, friends, and his community.

To say that the world is better because he's not longer influencing the gene pool is a bit much.  If anything, it means we need to do more in regards to gun safety - education and preventive measures.

That might have been a bit much,but at the same time,a 15 year old knows enough,or should know enough that a gun is not a damned toy. I am just thinking as a whole,sure 1 tragic death is not much,but it is 1 less person to negatively impact the gene pool.

I think you missed my point entirely. He's 15 - by definition of the law, he's still technically a child. 

While this was an obviously grave mistake, to define his character by his mistake is unfair. We've all made mistakes, and some worse than others. No child deserves to be labelled by their mistake, no matter how stupid it was.

Its sad how a teen like this can just...do something so silly because of a selfie. If your going to do a selfie at least do it in the right and proper manner...don't go doing what people would do which is stupid and result to death. Do it in the most sensible way ever. Its not to hard to ask for is it? I mean most teens out there know they shouldn't be stupid enough to make a selfie that the world hasn't done and be the first to do it. Since as I said that results to death. You don't need to take sefie pictures in the most craziest way ever. It doesn't need to be done like that. I dunno what went through this boys mind when he did it which lead to his death.

It is tragic. But the point stands,if he thought about this for a second,he would still be alive. Always assume a gun is loaded,even if God comes down and tells you it is safe.

I definitely laughed at this, and I don't feel bad for doing so, without the Internet this story wouldn't have even gotten to me, so if I find it funny I just do.
Also people are not getting dumber, we've always been thus dumb, there was a time when everyone thought radiation was amazing and really safe.

Selfie sticks in general are a pretty dumb invention though, now what was really useful was the events on of the claw hand that helps the disabled pick things up without having to bend over.

Personally, I don't know the person, so I take my ramblings with a grain of salt.

No, I don't think selfies are dumb. I take them, and there's nothing wrong with them. Hell, selfies were a thing long before the camera came into existence (Well, in a sense. People would stand for hours for a painting of them with no real meaning behind it.)

Selfies in a high risk situation are the problem if you're not prepared. If a professional mountain climber takes a selfie on top of a mountain, the person knows how to mountain climb and is safe. If a random person tries to take a selfie on top of a mountain, that's where the problem starts.

Anyways, while in hindsight that is a dumb idea, I still think it wasn't 100% his fault.

The media and society has a huge thing on guns being the epitome of cool in this day and age, therefor a lot of teens and people in general want to replicate what is coolest at the time. Guns are terrible tools in the hands of the incapable, so I feel like glorifying them as cool or awesome is something negative.

Also, the police said the safety catch wasn't on, which the owner (the father, in this case) should take responsibility on, considering he has a live arm in his house.
(I don't want to start the "guns are bad" argument again, I mean it as if a person has something potentially dangerous in their homes, they should take precautions with these things.)

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Just...how. Like, how in the name of whatever anyone believes in can anyone be this stupid!? To even do this in the first place is madness, but to not take any precautions while doing it!? Even worse. He left the gun loaded, which is moronic at best. I like having my guns ready to fire, but how do you possibly do something this stupid? And then, he didn't even turn the safety on. Guys, anyone who's held almost any gun knows how easy it is to turn on a safety. 

It sucks that the kid died, but if he was this stupid, let's just put it out there, he was likely not going to make it anywhere in life. If he did this, who's to say he wouldn't mistake the edge of a cliff for a glass bridge, you know? Just get him out of here before he drains anyone's resources any further.

As Ron White said in his comedy routine,"You can't fix stupid." Some people are just stupid and I hate to say this,but this may have been a good outcome. Now,before all of you start bashing me and telling me what a horrible person I am, *Maguc* ,let me explain why.

1. He was doing this without thinking about the danger. If I have a gun in my hand,I will treat it as if it were loaded and ready to fire. I do not care if my grandfather came back from the dead and told me it was safe,I will still treat it as a live weapon.

2. Even a 15 year old should know a gun is NOT a toy,NOT something to be posed with,NOT something to mess around with.

3. If he was this stupid to not ensure it was safe,he probably would not have been much use to society in general.

Maybe I do not see the difficulty of a young life like that lost. He died doing something stupid. I feel bad for his family,but at the same time,they know he did something stupid. This was 100% preventable. Just like the Independence Day weekend at a gun range when a father felt a hot shell go into his shirt,he jerks around with the weapon in hand and discharges it,killing one of his kids.

The problem is we are getting away from simple,basic,common sense. That tragedy was 100% preventable. If he had laid his weapon down,pointed the barrel at the target,and then proceeded to check himself,his son would still be alive today. Do I feel bad for the father? Yes. Do I think it is the father's fault? Yes. Do I think he should be punished? Yes. Although whatever sentence he gets,will pale in comparison to losing a child to a senseless accident.

I apologize for the length of the reply. Stupidity just annoys the hell out of me.

I've to agree. We've been regressing ever since the 2010s began. It has sunk to the point where people can become popular just for being attractive and moving their mouth to a song. We're also getting more and more attached to fast-moving flashing & bright colors, and the word Cringe is being used way more commonly than it first was. I'm getting concerned about the human race.

Or in the case of Kim Kardashian,making a crappy sex tape and being famous for a butt. That's it... She has no real talent,she is not one to admire,she is just an attention seeking piece of trash,like the rest of her deranged family.
