Okay so I've already said here (a few times) that I love working to collect trophies in games that I play. As such, I often find trophies that I absolutely HATE seeing, which also usually tend to block me from achieving a platinum at all. My biggest issues are with online play trophies, pay-to-earn trophies, and luck trophies.
Now the reason I hate online play trophies is because I can't play online due to my connection, so I simply cannot platinum these games and that irritates me to no end. It's unfair as not everyone can play online, especially with PS4/Xbox One requiring paid memberships to play online (though I have PS+ and fully understand and support the need for those services), and the fact that not everyone has an internet connection and not everyone that does have one has one that is fast enough (my problem) to support it. Literally, my PS4 and PS Vita block me from even trying. Lol Pay-to-earn trophies are the next ones up. These are the ones like in Disney Infinity 2.0 (and probably other versions) that say "Start a two player game." Okay, starting a two player game literally takes ZERO skill, and only serves as an obstacle to overcome if you: a). Bought the game used and so only got one figurine, or b). Only have one controller. Literally this is a play to make money most likely. And if I have only one DS4 I have to pay $60 for this trophy? Or how about the ones for riding in a vehicle that isn't built into the game? Or in other words, BUY MORE ITEMS FROM US AND EARN THIS TROPHY! Lame. }: This is a pathetic cash grab move by companies that don't care if they ruin their public image as long as it lands a few extra dollars (because some will pay for those trophies alone). Oh and finally the least aggravating one of the three: luck based trophies. "Win x amount on the virtual scratch off" or "Roll this number on the die three times in a row" or "find x amount of a randomly spawned item". Trophies should reward skill, not patience with an RNG or some other such nonsense. These are only meant to force you to play longer (usually in Free To Plays) or to encourage you to buy things that improve your odds (like more scratch cards, drop rate boosts, etc.) and frankly they have no place on a trophy list imo. Trophies that you have NO control over earning are a terrible idea. So yeah, what are your most hated kinds of trophies/achievements, and why? Pay-to-earn trophies are the worst. In Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, you needed to buy an online pass, and there are like +10 trophies related to online matches, like playing X times Y mode in online. I also hate stupid trophies, like "Lose a match", "Play the tutorial"... Is that something we really must aim for? It's just natural for those trophies to happen naturally, at least make the trophies something difficult to earn or that need some effort. I've even seen a trophy in Saint Seiya: Soldier's Soul that says "Lose a match without landing a single attack". Big applause, please. And last, but not least, these trophies in Gran Turismo 6: "Win a race by a margin of 0.01 seconds or less", "Record a lap time that's within 0.2 seconds of the best lap time for three consecutive laps" and "Register a lap record where the three digits after the decimal point are the same". Absolutely pure chance, there's no way you can really aim for them (you can in the first, but good luck with the timing). I also hate stupid trophies, like "Lose a match", "Play the tutorial"... Pay to earn trophies SUCK! And so do trophies that fall totally under RNG. You shouldn't be forced to buy products in order to unlock things, much less trophies. And buying what they want only tells them to keep this disgusting practice up. Exactly like Erinn described. These either fall under you needing to buy more products to improve your odds. But since you actually have NO control on these things, they don't belong in a trophy/achievement list. Because how are you supposed to know how to win by exactly .333 seconds? Or how are you supposed to win rock paper scissors three times in a row? You can't! You shouldn't be forced to buy products in order to unlock things, much less trophies. Online play chieve's are not my favorite since I don't like to play online with other people :p. I'm probably just paranoid about my skill in gaming and everyone watching me suck but eh. Pay to earn is also annoying. Pay to earn anything that requires more money is annoying. I'd rather earn the items or whatever by playing than paying money, and those chieves just make me want to pay money. Even though I have like little money left. Which I'd rather keep for other games. RNG chieves are just time-consuming for me. They'll annoy me if I happen to have bad luck, but the .333 seconds and other racing ones I happen to earn randomly without aiming for it. If it was "have this enemy spawn that has a 0.01 chance of spawning in this part of the game that takes 80+ hours to get to" then I'd get angry :p. My personal chieve types that I dislike are those "don't die" ones in a long game. Short games that aren't that hard, it's okay. But really long ones, ugh. And not getting hit chieves are mean. And speedrunning ones, specifically speedrunning the whole game without stops. Pay to earn is also annoying. Pay to earn anything that requires more money is annoying. EX Palen : Ugh I hate trophies for losing, especially since it makes my perfectionist nature fight with it's own self. Lol "Can't lose!" "Must lose!" and the battle ensues.
As for lame trophies, I actually got a trophy for launching a game for the first time. Yeah, really. "Well done, you!: start a game..." seriously, who does that? xD Those timing trophies that you mentioned are ridiculous too! How on earth do you make three laps in a row that are within exactly 0.02 seconds of a specific time, let alone three times IN A ROW? xD Those people are nuts. A user of this : I agree! Everything in a game should be unlockable without payment. Added missions/levels/Tracks/etc. I don't mind, if it's handled properly, but not "Here's the game! It has twenty levels, or you can pay for this DLC or the special edition and get an additional ten levels!". No. And paid trophies are just despicable and shameless marketing. ZeroTails : RNG trophies are annoying because they are time consuming, agreed. For example: I loved Knack to no end, but I had to play through six or seven times before I finally finished the last trophy because I had to obtain a certain number of items that were extremely rare. In fact I played through twice before I ever even saw the first one drop, and there are twenty or thirty item drops per game, so maybe a 1/40 or 1/50 drop chance and I need ten of these? I eventually just started opening the item chests that the drops came in and if the item I needed wasn't in it, I quit and restarted so I could check the chest again, lather rinse repeat. Lol Eventually the RNG threw out that item I needed! xD Good thing too, otherwise I would have had to play through probably nine or ten times. Thankfully that was the ONLY unpleasant experience I had while playing the game, and I actually enjoyed the first five playthroughs immensely. I hate achievements that require insane levels of skill to pull off, some games I'm just not good at so when that is what I have to get it is a giant chore. |

Completly RNG based trophies annoy me to no end. There's this one game on my Steam, Armello, and a few of the trophies are for exremely low chance random encounters. I get it, your game uses an RNG for pretty much everything (boardgame-like), but why make a trophy for accepting the item from that 5%/20% chance encounter on the forest tile (about a 5% chance to be picked as an outcome, about a 20% chance to be picked out of the choosen outcomes)? Also, online trophies irritate me. There are just some that I'm unable to achieve because I'm only good at PvE or becuase the online lobbies are dead and have been since a month after launch. |

Eirinn : When I first obtained my PS4 with Saint Seiya: Soldier's Soul, I wanted to test the new graphics and controller, so I went to Tutorial mode. It was just curiosity, because I had plenty of experience from the prequel, so I exited it without even checking anything. However, it was enough to get me my first Bronze trophy: Experience the tutorial. Big applause, please. And yeah, timing trophies in racing games seem to be a recurring theme. I did earn the three I mentioned, somehow, but there are some which are even harder than that: "Had a reaction time of less than 0.2 secs off the starting grid", which means less than 0.2 seconds must pass between the red light going off and you pressing the throttle. I'm pretty sure not even professional racers in real life achieve this on purpose. That trophy I mention is from Project Cars, which also has the following: "Completed a 24 hour race using only realtime progression (and why not stream it?!)". Ladies and Gentlemen, please wait your turn to slap the person who made that trophy in the face with a paper fan. Another of the games I have on my radar, Trackmania Turbo, has this unusual trophy: "Restart and complete a map 5 times without improving your best time". Lose, restart, repeat, get trophy. An absolutely delightful sight. 18mlivingston : I would prefer all 60 trophies from a game be about pure skill, no matter how insane the level is, rather than what we are commenting on here. At least, that would make earning the trophies a tough challenge, instead of relying on luck or intentionally changing the outcome of a match/race/mission/whatever. I hate all of them! Trophies and achievements are totally pointless. The point of a game is to beat the game. Everything else is secondary.
I understand why there are trophies because it gives people a reason to play the game more than they otherwise would in order to complete a whole bunch of other things but I don't see the point a lot of the time. If you can't make a game that is fun to play over and over don't user achievements to make up for that. I can see building side-quests and other things like that in order to fill out the game to make it more fun and to have more things to do. Trophies just feel lazy to me. Maybe those pointless ones, like Chapter ! completed, Chapter II completed. Why not just make one trophy that all chapters has been completed. |

Cactuar : I agree, some trophies like those just feel awkward. Like "fire 1,000 bullets" or the like. I prefer trophies for special accomplishments such as beating a boss without taking damage, or even pointless side challenges like Arkham Knight's trophy for flying under three bridges in a single glide. I don't mind getting chapter complete trophies, but I can see that they seem pointless in a way. This begs the question: should trophies be for special achievements, or for progressing past obstacles and challenges? Or both?
EX Palen : Project CARS had those? Well then that seals the decision for me: I'm going with Drive club after all. Lol Chindogu : Oh man, I hate to hear that about Armello. I really wanted that game when I saw it hit PS4. :/ I may still get it, I mean surely they'll eventually pop if I play a lot...I hope. Lol I hate these completely unpredictable, uncontrollable trophies/achievements. They ruin the point of trophies/achievements. And that's another thing that irritates me about online trophies: some games I have I'll never platinum because when I get a connection that suppoelrts online play the game's going to be dead. 18mlivingston : I can understand that. Trophies that are frustratingly difficult are annoying in their own right. Like in Arkham Knight when you're locked in an arena with a bunch of tanks and you have to beat them all with one shot each (there's a very very tiny weak spot you can shoot that destroys them instantly) without taking damage...Did I mention there were like fifty of them? Oh and some of them have homing missiles. Yeah, all that for a bronze trophy. -__- EX Palen : Project CARS had those? Well then that seals the decision for me: I'm going with Drive club after all. Becoming a Lightning God trophy for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Such a suitable name for such an impossible trophy to obtain, in which you would literally have to become a "Lightning God" lol. This is the only game that I know of that requires you to be 99% Perfect in order to receive the Platinum. Not only does the trophy call you to complete all the chapters on the hardest difficulty but you also have to acquire the highest Rank ( S Rank, in this case ) at the same time. If you don't know already, the best and easiest way to get the S Rank on Revengeance difficulty ( that's the hardest ) in this game is to complete every chapter by taking ZERO damage to get the bonus that will grant you the S Rank 99.9% of the time. Most of the enemies throughout the chapters are fairly easy to exterminate but once you reach the boss level... OMG! It's Near Impossible! I think there's about 6 or 7 bosses total in the game and I believe I reached the 4th boss ( and I had already been through a lot with the other 3 bosses ) until I founded the game to be insurmountable. This specific trophy accumulated a 3% rarity ( along with the Platinum ) on psnprofiles.com, which isn't the rarest I've seen but still... if anyone has this trophy or the Platinum, then they truly are a Lightning God! And as I've said before, I have never seen a trophy in any other game that has asked for this type of requirement, so ( for the moment ) this is the only trophy that I unquestionably loathe. Yeah, online trohpies are the worst, especially when I'm playing my Vita because there's only like one place I can connect it, which would be my friends house, and usually when I'm there, I have better things to do than play a specific game just to get that last trophy. |

Final Weapon : Are those Platinum trophies? They sound like it judging by the names.
Kruzer : Oh gosh, so basically beat the game without taking damage. That's insane. I've seen a "Beat the final boss without taking damage" but that's nothing compared to beating a whole game without it. zanderlex : Yeah, online trophies keep me from having any chance at having a 100% completion rating, and that annoys me. That and getting a few really awful games (like Super Time Force Ultra, or even bad ones like - imo - Super Meat Boy and LA Mulana Ex). I wanted to Platinum Rocketbirds but having to finish a campaign with two players keeps me from it. Same with Sniper Elite III. Also as individual trophies go, I'm starting to hate the trophy for catching Riddler in Arkham Knight. That's actually why I haven't played it in a few months now. While technically they aren't achievements or trophies, they do follow a similar procedure and I thought they would fit here. What I'm talking about is the checklist in Kirby Air Ride, for the Gamecube. All the unlockables in the game were unlocked after clearing certain tasks stored in a checklist, totalling 120 tasks for each game mode, 360 in total. Some of them are simple, as they would be completed over time; others are challenging, like beating a time trial with a certain machine; and others, like always, are impossible to do on your own. Examples of the latter are "Let the time run out while all players are on grindrails" or the similar "Let time run out while all players are not riding vehicles". Sure, you can get three NPC players to do the exact same thing at the same time, and when the timer runs out. Magnificent. Another example, nearly impossible to do: "Within 20 seconds from the start, get at least 10 items". Items are rare to appear on they own, they normally appear on containers and they are hard to break, sometimes for low prizes, so getting an item every 2 seconds is out of reach. But talking about impossibles, this one beats them all: "Without turning items off, finish 1st place without getting any items". Yeah, on a mode where the whole race is followed in Top-Down perspective and the track isn't precisely wide nor long, not getting any items is impossible, even less finish first. The worst of this is that this task is applied once for every track in the mode, meaning there are 7 like this. In my opinion, these checklists were Nintendo's try at the trophies/achievements, and they saw they're not getting anywhere with this. Plus, only about a third of the total tasks awards a prize, soundtracks included, so actual goodies to use in-game are rare to achieve. I've never completed any of the checklists at 100%, but I've been able to get up to 90-100 tasks done, so I'm quite proud of myself. Personally, I really dislike trophies that become unobtainable after a certain point, so that you have to start the entire game over from the beginning to be able to get them, and the worst form of these are ending-specific trophies. In most games that have them, your ending choice is locked in before you get to the ending, so you can't just reload your save file and get a different ending by acting differently - you just have to start the game over. It's not as bad when the game has multiple save files allowing you to go back to a point before you were locked in, but it's still annoying. |

I find some trophies easy to obtain and others very difficult but I love that some trophies are so difficult to obtain that it seems impossible because that usually means nobody has that trophy except a few exceptions I really dislike trophies that are too easy to get though. |

I'm probably in the minority here but I honestly don't feel too annoyed about online multiplayer trophies. The online multiplayer portion is part of the game and to earn a platinum trophy you should in theory experience everything there is to a game or close to it. I think most people are aware if a game has online multiplayer before buying it so they should be prepared that it might be the case. I'd say it's tough luck really. Now if you besides PS+ have to buy something extra to access it and those trophies are neccessary to get the platinum trophy then I'd be more annoyed. What I find more annoying is missable trophies. I get that obviously making every trophy completely non missable in a game might be difficult and in some extreme cases could be going against the point of the game. It really sucks having to replay an entire game just to get that one trophy you missed though. Makes it really likely a player will just use a trophy guide/roadmap which I feel ruins the point. Also hidden trophies that aren't mandatory (in other words not unlocked by just playing through the game). They're not too common but that basically means you don't have much of a choice but use a guide or wander around aimlessly trying to figure it out if you want to platinum the game.
