WARNING!!! THIS POST CONTAINS UNPOPULAR OPINIONS!!!
I think that one of the most disappointing games I have ever played was the original Sonic the Hedgehog. The reason being that I had played Sonic CD and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 before I played the original. I was surprised that it did not have the spin dash move or the Figure 8 Peel Out.. Also, NO SUPER SONIC!!! I know that Sonic CD did not have Super Sonic either, but it still had Time Travel and Metal Sonic. Plus, having experienced the Adventure games and Heroes before both of them, I had high expectations.

Here's a list of disappointments:

  • Metroid: Other M got me so hyped, and then I played it. Like a movie that only runs on a Wii.
  • Honestly, I don't know why I was expecting Wind Waker HD to be any different from the original.
  • Fallout: New Vegas. Probably the circumstances, seeing as how I got Fallout 4 a week later.
  • Saints Row 4 lacked the raw humor that its predecessor did.
  • Five Nights at Freddy's: honestly, I knew this game was a piece of s**t and I don't know why I bought it.
  • Bioshock Infinite just disappointed me completely. (Don't shoot me please)

There are more, but the full list would be a mile long.

As many of us have said, there are so many bad games.  I am a huge Final Fantasy Fan, but X-2 was a major let down for me.  On a side note, some one mentioned Mega Man Soccer.  I happened to love that game for some reason.  Resident Evil 5 was so horribly aggravating, I wanted to throw my controller through the TV every time I would shoot my partner in the back of the head and she just wouldn't move.  The Golden Axe game for the Playstation 3 was a huge let down for me.  I bought it used at Game Stop for less than 5 dollars, and I can see why.  I loved the first three for the Sega Genesis, but this one is just horrible.  I will stop there.

loj11 : Also no 1-up at 50k points. I too played Sonic 2 before so I thought the game wasn't too good; the lack of the spin dash attack was the worst. There weren't that many opportunities to gain momentum.

I'm not saying this is THE most disappointing game that I've played, but it was very disappointing nonetheless. I recently got a cracked version of FNAF World (Old) and it was meh. The things that disappointed me the most are listed below -

1. Overworld

I was promised a 3D overworld. It was in the trailer. And when the game released, there was no 3D overworld. Scott is remaking the game with a 3D overworld now, so I guess that makes up for this.

2. Info

Another big disappointing factor is what things do. For example, the game never tells you what a chip or byte does, you just have to either assume or find out for yourself. Scott is also fixing this issue in the remake.

I am not regarding the currently released FNAF World as the TRUE FNAF World game. The remake will be the true FNAF World to me. Other than these problems I found the game entertaining, usually during the battles.

I have had countless games that didn't live up to my expectations, however, there was one in particular that ranks top of the list: Dragon ball z battle of z. I swear, when this game first came out, I was so excited. So much that I went to game stop on the very first day it was released. I then happily took it home put it in my xbox 360 and played it no more than 2 hours at best. Compared to past DBZ games, the story surprisingly was short and the gameplay was just simple. Everything got tedious really fast. I couldn't believe I saved more than 50$ for this game. Man, even the gamestop employees themselves say that people were returning them no less than a week after purchasing. Most importantly, It taught me a very valuable lesson: Don't get over hyped for video games.

Star Wars Battlefront Reboot: Even though i enjoy the game, it saddens me that this is the battlefront i waited so long far.
Halo 5: The story sucked, multiplayer just feels like cod with extended health and a halo skin and the old community is gone.
Star Wars Force Unleashed 2: Loved the first one to death and loved the faster combat in TFU 2 but the story was boring and short.
Destiny: The beta sucked me in with the content we were given and  i thought the game would be bigger and better but i was wrong.
Splinter Cell Blacklist: Grew up playng the ones on the original Xbox besides Chaos Theory and I somewhat like Conviction; this game is horrid and boring.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, by far. The mechanics are some of the best in the series, I'll give it that, but the writing is atrocious, and how they wrecked the setting from the previous two games in that one was such a wasted opportunity that I want to drop, like, twenty F-bombs right now just thinking about it, but we need to keep it civil here.

Eh, as common as this answer may be, or may end up being, it was Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) for me. Granted, I ran into this game believing that it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone thought it was, and the beginning of the game didn't exactly turn me off...
That happened soon though, as I was met with horrible hitboxes, garbage bosses, disgusting mechanics, horrible load times... and the other characters you had to suffer with. Yeah.

So here's another opinion of mine though a way more unpopular one probably. but the Sonic games I consider to be the most overrated are the Sonic Adventure games. I seriously think those who consider these to be the best or even some of the best sonic games think so out of nostalgia for the games. They are a prime example of games having aged horribly and even so they weren't exactly great for their time. Horrible camera that often ruins the gameplay of the speed sections which do have some interesting designs sometimes (though I wouldn't go as far as to call them any of the best in the series). The facial animations of the original are some of the most atrocious and horrifying I have ever seen in any 3D game period. The soundtrack is extremely dated and literally makes you cringe, the part where Sonic actually sings at the end is supposed to be awesome but it mostly just made me laugh out loud at how ridiculous it was.

The gameplay isn't very interesting either with many of the characters Knuckles notably revolving around doing boring, disorienting collectathons (and don't get me started on the mess that is Big the Cat and the catching Froggy portion). The stories are also highly overrated in my opinion characters are one dimensional and (SPOILER AHEAD) people like the e102 gamma storyline and I will say it is still superior to that of any other characters but he is basically given no time to develop he just goes from an evil robot taking orders to good and helping out Amy in the blink of an eye making it not very convincing not to mention they pretty much stole the whole concept of it from The Iron Giant movie (SPOILER END).

Sure I still wouldn't say they're at the horribleness of 06 or Boom but I also think calling them some of the good Sonic games is giving them WAY too much credit.

TristanTehGamer1 : I definitely agree about battlefront. I was so disappointed when it was revealed that it wouldn't feature space battles, to me that was like taking away half of the game. It's still pretty alright but far from fulfills expectations or lives up to its predecessor.

gamerforlifeforever2 : I'll definietly say sonic 06 deserves all the hate it gets. Aside from the soundtrack it is just a big failure, I seriously don't get the people who thought Sonic having a human love interest was a good idea, there are a lot of things I associate with Sonic but a complex and interesting storyline is not one of them, for a good reason. The gameplay is extremely unpolished while superior to boom which isn't saying much it isn't great. The bugs are so abundant and severe they some times make the game downright unplayable. Even if a lot of the issues can be attributed to it being unfinished I think it's fair to say that even if the game had been given a longer development cycle it would've been far from a masterpiece.

The WORST game I've ever played would be Dear Ester. It's actually less of a game and more of a boring drag. I get the devs were trying to appeal to the artsy crowd but this is a bit too much. Extended walking sections, plodding story, and dull graphics. Not a fun time.
The most dissapointing games I've played would be Mirror's Edge and Heavy Rain. The former gets to be generic and dull after a few levels and the latter has such emotionless voice acting I'm surprises anyone found it moving.

Having loved Pokemon Red and Blue Rescue team and Pokemon Explorers of Darkness and Time I was really excited to know that a Pokemon game for the next generation handheld was announced. With the addition of generation five pokemon there was no way that Nintendo could ruin this opportunity. Pokemon Gates to Infinity was perhaps the most disappointing game I've ever played because the focus wasn't the game's poorly thought out story but replay value. I realized how little I cared about the dungeon RPG elements in the game and just played for the plot. The worst game I've ever played was Barbie for the NES but that's because it's a game that was intended to target a girl audience. Never been too much of a fan of 2D platformers either but that opinion should change soon because I heard Ori of the Blind Forest is really great.

Zlinqx : Yeah I know how you feel, being an owner of that game also I can confirm that the game is very repetitive. Though the sequel managed to fix some of it though its still a little button mashy.

Final Fantasy VIII was really disappointing for me.
FF7 was such a great game as was FF6, so naturally FF8 shoulda been great too, right?
Nope... the story sucked, the game play sucked, the level system sucked.
The cut scenes were ok, but definitely couldn't save this game...

Okay most and worse disappointing games I have ever played.

A tornado warning will need to be issued because this rant will have tornado rants in it.

One of the most disappointing games I ever played and it also ranks high on my lists as worse games ever. Mega Man II for Game Boy. I'm a huge fan of Mega Man. Mega Man is often ranked up there with Mario in popularity and greatest games. So I was eager to play Mega Man II for Game Boy. All I can say is what was Capcom thinking. The sounds were bad, the game lagged, and the plot was horrible. The graphics and controls were some of the worst controls I have seen in a game. But unlike other games in the Mega Man franchise Mega Man II had a goofy and horrible plot. Basically, Dr. Wily creates a time machine goes into the future captures Mega Man reprograms him into I kid you not a robot master by the name of Quint who just rides a pogo stick. It really made the game bad. What was Capcom smoking when they made this game.

My other rant comes from Mega Man X series. Mega Man 7 was supposed to be a good game for the new Play Station II when it came out. The plot was creative. But the graphics were a mess. They would switch from 2D to 3D this caused serious control problems and lags. Thankfully Capcom fixed the mess in Mega Man X8. But having the game switch at random from 2D to 3D made this one of the worst X games out there. Mega Man X7 had so much potential. But they also made Mega Man X into a whiner and his voice even reflects on that. It makes you want to mute the game.

Third game that was a huge disappointment to me was Nolan Ryan's baseball. Baseball games are supposed to be fun. So you would think Nolan Ryan's baseball would future Nolan Ryan in it. Wrong, Nolan Ryan is not futured in the game at all. He does not even appear in the game. Also you don't get to play as any of the major league teams. Not to mention the controls were just horrible. I later found out that this game was not even licensed to Major League Baseball. The makers of the game put together a horrible game. Tried to put a famous ball player on it hoping it would sell copies. The game is not even considered an MLB game cause it was not licensed by MLB. Lets just say the game shows too.
