So, Genrody basically doesn't get used at all anymore and the nether also gets very little activity on the server so I was kind of hoping to have them both reset.


The main reason I want to do this is to have a completely separate survival area that you can't bring items to. The problem I've had with Genrody and Greenerous is that I could just go buy anything I needed and it made the areas much to easy to be in. I'm hoping for a similar situation as the Creative area has where you can't bring items in and out.

That way you would still have the creative area, greenerous/vizzed ville for people who want to use use mViz and then a pure survival area for people like me who want more of a challenge.

I also think the portal to the nether should be destroyed in Vizzed Ville and only allowed via Genrody. The Nether isn't really useful for much. Anything you find there I think you can buy in a shop (or that could easily be added for the handful of items that aren't available).

[edit] Also, if natural health regeneration could be turned off in Genrody as well that would be awesome. Maybe not at first but maybe after the first month so I could provide potions and such to anyone wanting to play there.

As the King of Greenerous (self-imposed title but some people approved of it ) I'm kind of for and against this idea.

I think one of the main reasons as to why Genrody doesn't get used is because Greenerous honestly has more to offer. Keep in mind that Genrody is a 1.7 world so it will not have all the new features that Greenerous has (new blocks, sea temples, etc.). On top of that the currently explored map honestly looks kind of lame. At least 65% of it is desert, savannah and ocean. Before I became admin I would only go there to get sand.

If we can just remove the current genrody and add a new 1.8 world then I'd agree. Though some people might not want to lose their houses.

Furret : I would expect it would be updated to 1.8 when this was done. No point in remaking a 1.7 map over again.

As for losing houses.... which ones? There were a handful that were made and nearly all have been abandoned at this point. Old builds are not a reason to not restart a poorly used map.



And King of Greenerous? That is obviously a self-imposed title cause you didn't earn it.

I mean I did add a ton to the greenerous map and I've most likely spent the most amount of time in there aside from Davide1217 so it's not that I don't deserve it at all. If you feel like I don't deserve the title that's fine, it's just something I like to call myself and nothing 'official'

Furret : I'm just joking around. I haven't played much on the Vizzed server over the last 3 or 4 months (been doing super hostile maps) so it's very possible you've done a lot and I've missed it.


Anyway, hopefully we can get more people on board with this idea. I want something difficult to do on the server and right now there is nothing difficult. I've soloed the Wither already and that was pretty boring. I'd like a challenge I could share with other people and do some building without being able to just have EVERYTHING in the game available.



Also, having the item removal at the portal would prevent a lot of griefing because people can't just wander in with TNT or anything and start blowing things up.

While I'm not nearly as active on the server as I used to be (been busy with other stuff mostly) I think this sounds like a pretty cool idea and something I would definietly be interested in trying out if it is to be implemented.

As long as it's okay with other users since while I don't think people go in to greenerous that much anymore, I know some people have spent a considerable amount of time in there building and exploring. Perhaps they could be offered to move their builds?

Zlinqx : well, for me the main point of this would be to start fresh and not have access to ANYTHING we used to have. I moved from Genrody to Greenerous and I already had more materials than I could ever use. This isn't all that much fun to me. I enjoy the challenge of gathering the things I need in order to make items rather than already having them or being able to just buy them with mViz.

geeogree : I meant for it to be moved to greenerous or some other place, not to the new genrody since that would defeat the purpose of the idea in the first place lol, probably wasn't clear enough about that. I don't think many if any people would mind that since like you said it allows for both options.

Zlinqx : that might work. Not sure if there are any builds worth moving though. I don't remember seeing much of anything in Genrody that was above ground and well made

geeogree : Well I figured it's better to be safe about it, since I'd expect most genrody builds are somewhat hidden to prevent griefing so you probably wouldn't notice them immediatly and might have chests with something of value in them.

Have anything reset? I say the entire server should be reset. I has been forever since the server has since alot of traffic, but I guess I just missed the joy of the server in its early months (man I remember being the first one on and the only thing I had to do was try to run in front of djin while he was still streaming the preview). Meh, that would never happen anyway, to much pixel art and such would be missed by too many.

As for the world you said, I don't think I've ever been there, I never had much cared for any added world on the server. Never bothered with even the Nether, but I guess a reset my interest me enough to not only check those worlds out but actually get on the server again.

I really like the idea of having the nether only accessible from the survival map. Creating a brand new 1.8 survival map where everything is taken from there sounds great. Or... Why not some sort of a hardcore map and leave Gen the way it is?

zanderlex : well, I do want this new map to eventually have natural health regeneration turned off so that it is even more difficult.

However, to start off I don't think many people would enjoy it like I would.

Also, leaving Gen is kind of pointless. No one uses it right now and there are only so many portal spots right now.

I'm posting in here again to keep this alive. I tried once before and nothing happened but I really think this would help the server have some more life to it. I know I would spend more time playing if what I suggested happened.

Davideo7 : summons for the idea

so, I updated this thread.... for version 1.9 we should do this. That would be a great excuse for a new world and possibly a new nether/end world as well. With a creative world available people can build with any kind of block.... I believe in 1.9 the dragon will be spawnable over and over again so the server can fight the dragon as many times as we want. This would be awesome to do on a regular basis.

Anyway, that's what I am hoping for now. A new 1.9 world when the new patch comes out and all the support for the server is updated to match. I know it likely won't happen right away but as long as that can be the plan going forward that would be great. We did it for 1.8 and it makes sense for 1.9 as well

I'd be fine with restarting The End but I see no reason to restart Genrody and I kinda like keeping it as an archived world to look over the things that users invested their time into. I've never been a fan of destroying history and that world has a lot of history in it. Plus, there might be some users who would hate to see it get removed so I think what I'll do is just create a whole new world when 1.9 comes out that will contain the new resources.

I kinda like the idea of a survival world where you can't bring items to it but can only bring items out of it. If enough users like that idea, we can definitely do this with the next survival world.

As for restarting The Nether, I suppose we could do that if no one has any objections. I don't think any time was invested into creating anything in there but I could be wrong.

Davideo7 : fair enough. I only say restart genrody because we're sort of out of portal spots.

If you want to save it and put a special portal for it somewhere else that seems okay by me.


And as far as I know there is no one using the Nether for anything but resources (or were) but with the creative world I doubt anyone is anymore.

Davideo7 : there are currently doing snapshots for it and have been for at least a couple of months so I imagine it is coming up soon. It could be into the new year before it comes out for sure though. It's tough to know for sure. The 1.9 update is one of the biggest updates since 1.0 so I imagine they will be testing it a lot before release.

I hope it comes out this year but I realize it might not happen until some time in the new year.

geeogree : The server may not be able to upgrade to it right away either. It'll depend on how quickly Spigot can get support for it. I'm assuming it'll be within a few days but after the incident with CraftBukkit last year, you can never know for sure.
