This competition is based on the Video Game Characters feature and the Shenmue games on vizzed. Whoever can take the most screenshots of the most characters in Shenmue I and Shenmue II wins.

Here's how this works. Try and find and take as many screenshots of as many characters in Shenmue I and/or Shenmue II. Each tag of each character in each game counts as a point. So if you take a screenshot of 50 different characters in Shenmue I and then 25 different characters in Shenmue II, you'd have a total of 75 points. You can take screenshots of characters that other users have taken screenshots of and you also get points for taking screenshots of characters that appear in both games (but very few characters appear in both).

There are 400+ characters between the 2 Shenmue games and some of them are hard to come across so there's plenty of characters for this competition to last an entire month. In case of a tie, the users would share the prize.

Every character (as far as I know) from the Shenmue games have profile pages on vizzed already so you don't have to worry about any characters missing. You can find a list of all the Shenmue characters on vizzed here:

I figured this competition would be a great way to get users to play Shenmue for the first time, a great way to celebrate Shenmue III and also a great way to provide vizzed with Shenmue related content.

The Shenmue games on Vizzed do not require the Beta Test Ticket and also cost 0 Viz so they're available to everyone!

Bonus 1
The prize amounts will be doubled if a screenshot is taken of at least 380 different characters between the 2 games among all contestants (there are 407 characters total)!

Bonus 2
You'll get an extra $25 as long as you make the top 2 as long as both of the following things are met: 1. Most of the screenshots are taken in a a location so be sure to specific the location for all screenshots taken in a location and properly categorize all of your screenshots. 2. Over 90% of your screenshots of characters have just 1 character in it instead of 2 or more.

Tips:
-If you find characters that are missing, be sure to let the staff know asap so that we can get them added right away and than you can add those characters to your games
-Don't be overwhelmed if a lot of users have a lot of points, it's very easy and quick to earn a lot of points
-This competition not only encourages tagging characters in your screenshots, it also encourages taking more screenshots so be sure to take as many as you can
-Make sure to take and use meaningful screenshots if you want to avoid having your screenshots down rated

I have never played a Dreamcast game here because my computer is good, but not great. Not sure if it can handle streaming the games. I'll give it a shot though just because Shenmue is my favorite franchise, and I am sure I know where almost every character is.

If only I had a PC controller, then I'd be able to participate in this competition. I would've tried to win this one, but since I can't use the keyboard to play , I can't participate.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Do you have to use a game controller for dreamcast games, or is it one of those deals where it would make it a lot easier? If keyboards don't work on dreamcast games here, then I probably won't be able to do it

rcarter2 : nope, the keyboard doesn't work with Dreamcast games. I tried to do it when Dreamcast games first arrived on vizzed, but it didn't work, and it still doesn't to this day... So much for playing Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2, and Skies of Arcadia...

With the way the plugin is right now, you can only play Dreamcast games with a controller. I'm not sure how someone would play a Dreamcast game with a keyboard anyway since it has a lot of buttons and an analog stick. If you guys have an Xbox 360 controller, you can get a cable for pretty cheap to hook it up to your computer and use that as a controller.

Davideo7 : I do have a Xbox 360 controller. Is there a special cord, or would the cord with the controller charger on one end and the USB at the other work? Generally, I would agree with you that Dreamcast games would be hard with a keyboard. But Shenmue, I think, would be pretty easy. The fighting system would be no more difficult than any fighting game on the SNES, since aside from the analog, the Dreamcast controller and SNES have the same amount of buttons. And since I use the directional pad to fight on Shenmue anyway, keyboard would be pretty easy overall for this particular game that doesn't put much emphasis on camera control.
But yeah, if my charger cord will work, I'll do that. If not, I'll see how cheap the proper cord is. Although I will say that my controller is a wireless for the 360 Slim, in case that matters.

Then you should be able to hook it up to your computer with no problem. If not, as I said, those types of cords you can get for less than $10.

I honestly think even SNES games are tough to play with a Keyboard but I suppose you're use to it and I'm not. I personally just hate using a keyboard for gaming, I'm pretty old fashioned in the sense that I demand a controller with my games lol.

Davideo7 : I don't have one unfortunately, so I won't be able to participate in this competition. By the way, what other RGR competitions are being held this month? This is the only one I've seen so far.

Hopefully I can get the game to work. It sounds like a fun game and a fun competition. I've never played it before, and I hope the game is awesome. 

And also, in your first post, you put & instead of or between the bonus prizes, and that could get confusing for some members. 

I keep getting an error before the game starts, on the nulCD screen it gives me error message-

Verify Failed = TaCMD!=0 - In TASplitter:: DMA -> SrcTa.cpp=19

Do you know how to fix this? I've tried downloading things for my controller, but it does nothing. 

Barathemos : Maybe Dreamcast games just don't work on your computer.

rcarter2 : The xbox 360 controllers do not work on a PC using the charge kit. Sadly that cord does not transfer any data. If you have a wireless bluetooth receiver on your computer you can download software to use that via PC. Otherwise you need to use the wired windows Xbox controller or the old wired 360 controllers.

Jordanv78 : Do you know if you need any items to play DC games? From what I saw on the Announcement page, I gathered you just need the Beta Ticket. But any DC game I try to play, it says the ROM failed to download. I looked at the profiles of people who have submitted screenshots to other DC games. I saw that every one of them had the Beta Ticket as well as a disc machine item. But I don't want to buy one if it isn't necessary. If you don't need one, then it looks like I won't be able to play anyway because it keeps giving me the Failed to Download message.

rcarter2 : All you need is the Beta Test Ticket to play Dreamcast games on vizzed. And actually, the Shenmue games don't require the Beta Test Ticket and cost 0 Viz.

Davideo7 : Dang. 2 days ago, I tried to play the game, and the game did start downloading. I was just seeing if it would for me, and I closed the screen, deciding to do this when I got a controller. But now I can't get the game to download. Just says Error: Failed to download ROM file . Hopefully, it will work later. I REALLY want to try this. My Dreamcast disk spinner stopped spinning, so I can't play this anymore.

rcarter2 : That might mean that you have the file downloaded on your computer already but it didn't download all the which means you have a corrupted file that you need to delete in order for it to try and re-download the file.

EDIT-- Disregard what I said first if you saw it. I found the right file. I couldn't find Shenmue in my Vizzed folder. I couldn't find any dreamcast games. Where would the dreamcast ROMS be found? I just decided to go into each folder and deleted every file that I knew was a ROM, Screenshot, Save state, etc. I'll try playing Shenmue again.

UPDATE- Looks like it worked. It is downloading. Very slowly, but it is downloading. Hopefully, it will get to 100%. Looks like it is going at a rate of 10% per minute, so I might know in about 9 minutes if it keeps up that rate. Do you know if it should load up faster after I download and play it for the first time? On a side note, I have not cleared old stuff in my Vizzed file for a LONG time. I ended up deleting over 30 GB of stuff. I likely have so many due to the various screenshot competitions I have done in the past. Particularly the character ones where I was going through literally thousands of games . That really built up over time of games I NEVER even play except for the screenshot competitions. I am noticing my computer is running significantly faster. Hahahaha.

rcarter2 : Yeah it's very slow because the game is around 2.5 GB.
