Megaman Fans, Rejoice!
Mighty No. 9 --The new IP from Keji Inafune, Head of game development company Comcept and co-developer of Megaman-- which sets out to carry on the spirit and play style of Megaman has officially recieved a release date: September 15th for the North American market, September 18th for the European market. These dates however are only for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, XBox One, and PC releases, leaving the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game's release date yet to be announced.
Further news from Comcept has told us that the game will be available for both digital and retail purchase for the PlayStation 4, XBox One, and Wii U, and that retail purchases will include the "Ray" DLC. PlayStation 3, XBox 360, and PC gamers will have to settle for a digital copy however, and buy the Ray DLC separately unless they were backers of the Kickstarter campaign for the game.
Ray DLC? Awesome! But What Exactly Is It Again?
In case you're wondering, the Ray DLC includes an extra level, an extra boss fight (of course), and a new playable character. It's rumored that the new playable character is Ray (shocking, I know) and that Ray will be playable in the main game after you defeat the extra level. This may or may not have been officially confirmed by Comcept, but since at the time of the writing of this article I have not personally found confirmation on this directly from Comcept, I hesitate to call it more than a rumor, though it seems highly likely and I see no reason to doubt it.
It's Late! It's Late For A Very Important Date!
Busy bunnies and wonderland references aside, those of you who have been faithfully following the updates from Comcept have certainly already noticed that the release date has seen a significant delay as it was originally announced with an April 2015 release date. The reason for this delay is that Comcept has partnered with Deep Silver who will be the publisher of Mighty No. 9, and now plans to take the added time and use it to polish the game as well as add in new features, such as French voiceovers and subtitles for several other languages according to the requests of players.
All of this means that while the game has seen a delay, that delay has brought about some very promising additions as well as time to ensure that the game plays every bit as smoothly as you've hoped it would. So this delay is actually a positive thing, after all Shigeru Miyamoto said it best when he said "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad".
For The Outsiders
As a final note for those of us who may somehow still be out of the loop on this, Mighty No. 9 is Inafune's answer to the fact that he can no longer develop his own series (Megaman) due to Capcom owning the rights to it still. So in the end, Mighty No. 9 is more or less the rebirth of the Megaman that Capcom has killed and refused to allow to be revived by a very willing Inafune.
Score one for Inafune and the Blue Bomber fans
