What's the point of it anyways? Most people will just spam one word posts. It ruins the boards because you won't be able to get to the real posts. Now, this is just my thought, what do you guys think?

Honestly, we don't really need it. It's just to get activity on the board up, even though most of said activity during the TDV is spam.

It's a good way to boost people's interest in posting. And, to get new people a chance to win some acknowledgement. If you're like me, you only kind of care. It's a, it would be nice to win, but you really don't try like others. 

It's something that's been on-going for too long to just shut-down, that's really the long and short of it. You just can't quit one of the most popular things on Vizzed.

I disagree that it encourages spamming (at least not in the forum I visit). Tour de Vizzed is the time I post the most in order to increase my Contribution Points and, who knows, maybe become a moderator one day and earn people's respect.

Besides, spammers usually get banned/warned by moderators. It happened to me a few times when I was told not to "resurrect" old threads just to gain points

I sort of agree with this at least regarding the blue jersey and partially the yellow jersey as well (though some people just make really long posts or reviews, walkthroughs etc.) . It does get activity on the board up. But many just make posts that are like 1 or 2 sentences long and barely add anything to the thread they're posting in and you can pretty much see was made only to increase their post count which covers the whole board while it's going on.  But like darthyoda said, since it's so popular and has been going on for such a long period of time it's very unlikely to be shutdown any time soon.

I don't think it's necessary for 'board health', but it is kind of fun, and I've been amazed at the neat threads that have come out of the woodwork in the past two days. It makes posting fun, and I haven't actually seen spam posts. I have seen lots of people posting, but not spam. Answers to things (that I've been in, at least) have been actual answers to whatever the thread topic is, and more often than not, good ones. 

I actually thought spamming was against the Tour de Vizzed rules, too?

Yunimori : Yes, it's very interesting. Although I post fairly long game reviews, you somehow manage to get close to my total number of words. Mind you, your posts are usually high quality with elaborate answers, so it's a fair game, but I HATE YOU.

Zlinqx Getting the blue jersey is VERY hard, unless you make all sorts of worthy actions like posting reviews. From what I can see, the "spammiest" jersey would be the green one since trusted members and moderators can do so much more than regular members and therefore win it.

I've said this a hundred times before, but no, I don't think we need the TdV at all. I'd prefer if the site didn't have it, because it actually lowers my interest in posting, as opposed to boosting it.

It's no secret that quality is at its highest during non-TdV months, and that's when I find it easiest to converse with other users, because they aren't striving for a trophy.

I say that both as a regular user and someone who won a TdV in the past. It's all well and good for those who want to win, but for those who just want to relax and enjoy fluid conversations, it is absolutely horrible.

janus : I'm guessing you mean the yellow jersey? Since the blue jersey is about how many posts you can make hence it's better to make several shorter posts. And I meant spammy as in not contributing in any way to the site. Since most of the time it results in people making short posts that are just long enough not to be considered spam according to the TdV rules, but that don't really add anything to a thread and you can clearly see the person who wrote it often barely even cares about the thread they're posting in.

I did mention how competing for the yellow jersey doesn't always result with people being spammy since some write reviews, walkthroughs or just really elaborate posts etc. I'm not really sure how staff members having an advantage is considered spammy, more like I guess kind of unfair since they can do some things other members can't and have a higher cap on some actions. But not spammy since you are still contributing to the site and doesn't really ruin the site experience for other users in any way as far as I'm aware.

It's something to increase activity and it gives users the opportunity to compete against each other in various ways around the site.

I'd say with the new green and red jerseys the TDV has a lot less spam compared to the old jerseys. CP actions are easily traceable and spam in these is easily noticed. Thanks to the CP page, spam in the red jersey is also easily noticeable. Yellow isn't that bad either. 
I'd say blue is easily the most spammed, and even then, a lot of people look out for spam on that one.

I don't mind the TDV anymore. Just looking at this month's TDV shows you that it can be a fun and spam-free competition. I'm never going to put myself through the pressure to try and win one, though I like how it can reward people for their hard work and give lesser known users a chance for the spotlight.


Besides, we have a great staff who are keeping a keen eye on the entire competition, to make sure it's both fun, spam-free and fair to everyone.

This is just something fun for some people to do and to increase activity on the site.

Yes it does ruin friendships and chances at staff positions, but it can be fun sometimes.

I personally don't like it very much with all the CP things, but David has fixed those a lot so they are more tolerable.

Also all of the elimination and hangman threads get closed, which I don't really enjoy...

Well, I'm not exactly sure if we need this. I mean, all of a sudden, users just want to go ahead and start posting on my threads. At any other time, they would just leave them alone. So, I just think it's kinda rude. Maybe not rude, but just try to get what I mean. If anything, there should be a new Jersey for popular, non-Crazy House threads. I said something about this during the January 2015 TdV. Maybe it should be the Orange Jersey or the Purple Jersey. This way, people who can actually make a good thread worth posting for can be a part of the Tour de Vizzed. Because honestly, if people just start replying to threads that have been open for months now, I think something is really messed up.

mario102 : People who "resurrect" treads that are too old usually get warned by locals mods - I have a few times and needed to stop. And I get your frustration; when I first started posting/creating subjects I didn't get many answers until Tour de Vizzed

In order to be more consistent, I personally started posting more often starting in February, but yes I am now posting more often in order to win jerseys since I am more ready than ever.

However, there seem to be treads that are always active like those talking about Pokemons or sports.

Thank you for saying I post quality, though. I am genuinely trying, regardless of jerseys... which I'm honestly only half trying for, anyway. I prefer to simply answer threads and give good answers to things I find interesting, that's all. That tends to mean I go word smithing if it's not a forum game, eh-heh. It just sort of happens?  Please don't hate me. (And yes, I know you're not serious, but still. Pleaaaase?) Like I said... somewhere else, I can't remember which thread it was now: this seems to have brought the interesting discussion threads and the like out of the wood work, so I'm finding all kinds of things to post in. It pleases me.

Well, the TdV is supposed to be a fun form completion. There will be spammers, and there will be cheaters, but that's why there are mods. I personally feel that it's not necessary, but it's still fun nonetheless. Yes, I get an incentive to post more in TdV months. Maybe that's a good thing, and maybe that's a bad thing. Considering that I rarely post anyways (like, about once or twice a day), I think it's a good thing. But the point is, it's probably not going to leave anytime soon. Do I feel that the TdV is fun? Yes. I do, and I compete.

I wouldn't really care either way if TdV was gone. I just see it as a friendly (supposedly) competition. Also, my threads get mostly ignored anyways, and it gets ignored during TdV as well. I don't really mind that much.

The point of the Tour de Vizzed was to make a competition where you race for prizes, just like the Tour de France, which occurs at the same time as the TdV (or at least it does sometimes, I'm not sure).

However, the Tour de Vizzed is racing for jerseys and banners, whereas the Tour de France is racing for prize money.

Sure, the TdV can ruin friendships, cause way more spam than the norm, and even cause people to get banned if they spam or flame too much. But there's also positive effects to it, and it seems like 90% of the users who don't compete don't look at the positive side of the TdV's existence.

The TdV can also build friendships, easily make users more well-known and acknowledged (like darthyoda said), and encourage many users to be more active and contribute more to the site.

Giving an example of darthyoda's point: more users become trusted members because of the TdV.

 Well thanks every one! I have decided to try this month. I'm going for the blue jersey, because without even trying to, I became #5. Anyway, ZeroTail will probably bloody wreck me, but whatever!

It's very common for users to place in a jersey without any effort. I've done that a few times before.
