Buga-the-Knut :

My grandpa hired a small trucking company to move his family from point a to point b. My other grandpa owned this company. My other grandpa was the one who wanted his family to be moved, my other grandpa wanted him to pay to do so. My dad was the trucker, my mom was one of the ones moving. Or so I have been told.

Well, it is not like this will ever be made in to no Disney movie but here I am now, typing this stuff to you.

I actually don't know how my parents met, but I've always loved the story of how my grandparents met. Hope it's okay if I share that instead.

Back in the 40's, both my Grandpa and Grandma went to a beach party at the Killarney pavilion. My Grandma showed up with her boyfriend and over the course of the night, he got pretty drunk and ended up leaving her alone at the party with no way to get home. My Grandpa offered to drive her home and eventually they started dating and got married.

Well my parents met from school. They basically went to school together and started dating. They were together almost 18 years I believe until they separated. My dad is an abusive drunk. It sucks honestly I don't like being around him for past reasons. He was really terrible to my mom, cheated on her and yelled at her when he was drunk. All I remember growing up is dishes thrown and broken which is quite sad but I'm glad he's out of our lives.

Bintsy :

Well I left out the part about the males in my fathers side of the family being abusive drunks. Well I guess it was implied in the part where I told they were truckers.

Dunno about the sweet part, but my parents' first meeting was definitely weird. Dad was driving up the road to go visit a friend that lived near here, and he saw Mom knee-high in cow manure helping Papaw clean out the barn. He instantly fell in love, according to him, though it would be another THREE MONTHS before he got to actually MEET her.

They didn't get to date without Mamaw coming along for another three years after THAT, either, because Dad is five years older than Mom. It seems to have been just a weird time in general. Heck, even their wedding was straaaaange, but that's not the purpose of this thread so I won't go into that here.

Just take from it that my parents' courting period was weird as heck and leave it at that.

My mom and dad met while they were in college. My mom dated a few guys, not many. While she broke up with one guy, she met his friend, who was my dad. They were friends for about a year and a half, and then they decided to start dating. They dated each other for two years, then that led to marriage.

My dad moved around a lot when he was young.
One day he moved to my mother's school.
He didn't like her, and shot spitballs at her all day.
One day, he moved away.

Several years later, he came back. They hooked up, and that's that. Yep. Almost funny.

They both met in the hospital they were working. She was "actually" working (as in having a career) while my father was studying economics - he got the job thanks to his aunt who was a nurse. Apparently my father wanted to go on a date with a specific girl but she couldn't. I don't know how my mom got into the portrait but 9 months later they were married and my sister was already on the way.

My parents met because both of them worked at Little Caesars Pizza. That's really all they ever say about how they met, so I guess that's pretty much the whole story.

I think my parents met while at college? I don't know, because they divorced when I was 3, and won't give me many details about it.

Well, my parents meet up at all places you would mostly expect a normal couple meets up, at a truck stop gas station. My Father who just started his truck driving career not that long ago and my Mother stopped by at that same gas station and then they started to have more communications and then started to hang out a lot more (since he lived not too far away). My Mother was old enough to go out on her own terms and she was with him, and then got married and later, boom, my brother and myself came into the world.

So yeah, my parents got together at a gas station.

My parents met on a random meet up on the Jersey Shore.  My dad's lived here most of his life, and my mom's great aunt had a beach house on the same beach my dad frequented.  They dated for a summer and through the next year, but my mom went off to college in Missouri near where my grandfather lived (my mom's parents were divorced).  For a few years, my mom and dad kept in touch. My Dad still brags about the letter that he sent one morning when the planets must have aligned, because it got from New Jersey all the way down to Missouri to be delivered the same day. My Mom talks about saving up her change from the laundromat to make calls back to my dad.  After a few years, however, they lost touch. My mom graduated after four years and after a couple of years in Missouri a few things started to fall apart, so she moved back up to New Jersey.

When she got back, she wanted to meet up with some people she knew, but mostly all of her friends had gone away to school and started new lives.  She made a trip back down to the Jersey Shore to see her great aunt.  She went to my Dad's parents house, but there was a new name on the mailbox. She was devastated.

Believing my Dad had moved, had a new phone number, and would be impossible to reach, she sat down in front of the neighbor's house and cried.  Just then, the neighbor, Peggy, came out to see what was wrong. Peggy, a British nationalist with a charm and grace about her, was good friends with my father's father, so she had had the opportunity to meet my mother years earlier.  Peggy sat down, gave my mom a hug, dried her tears, and finally was able to see what she was doing sitting out on the curb.  When she heard my mom was devastated that my father had moved she replied in her cheery English accent, "Oh, Ricky's just moved across the street, dear! He's joined the Merchant Marine, though, and might be out at sea."

Delighted, my mother ran across the street, and knocked on my grandparents door.  My granfather answered the door and let her know my Dad was returning from his 3 week duty in a few hours.  She had made it just in time.  My dad came home as scheduled, and reeked of oil and grease from his ship, but my mom didn't care.  They had finally met back up, and went on a date that night.  The rest was history.

...just a quick after note-  All of my grandparents have passed on, but Peggy, at 94 is alive and well. She recently moved out of her house and into a nursing home, but my mother still visits her three times a week.  She has remained a great friend of the family.
