What RGR Plugin Features Do You Want?
For the first time in over 2 years, the guy who created the RGR Plugin is willing to give me the source code and he's even willing to add a few new features to the RGR Plugin . Now the question is, what features do you guys want to see the most? In the poll above, vote on the features you want to see added the most (multi-voting is enabled). If you have ideas for other features, please let me know and I'll add them to the poll. Also let me know in this thread why you think we need the features that you've suggested.

Getting updates added to the RGR Plugin is not cheap for me. I've invested around $20,000 into the RGR Plugin over the course of about 4 years. Breakdown of all the possible new features if we get enough donations

Update Mednafen
This would make netplay run better and increase the compatibility and playability of the *mednafen emulated systems. It would also make some games that currently have problems no longer have problems. It'd also add additional new features such as 3-8 player genesis netplay (currently netplay on genesis only supports 2 players), possibly Playstation netplay (for some games for users with powerful computers), possibly working SNES netplay for users who currently have problems, and many other fixes and improvements.

Update MAME/MESS
This would increase the compatibility and playability of the Arcade games and also the **MESS emulated systems. It'd also decrease problems for various Arcade and **MESS games and could also allow us to add a few more (mostly older) systems to the site.

MAME/MESS Netplay
This would allow users to play Arcade games online together and also **MESS emulated games together (which would add netplay support to the majority of non-handheld games on vizzed!). There are a lot of great multiplayer Arcade games that are 2-6 players and a lot of them are also coop. I should also point out that with this update, some Playstation games on the site would have Netplay support and some N64 games would have perfect netplay (no more desyncing!).

MAME/MESS Full Screen Support
This would give you the ability to play Arcade games and **MESS games in full screen mode.

More Systems to support Video Recording
Most of the game systems on vizzed allow you to press a single button and record your gameplay but not every system support it. N64, Sega CD and a few others don't currently support it.

Ability to change controllers during Netplay
This would allow netplayers to change who is 1st player, 2nd player, etc. The session host would have the ability to assign a user (or their own) to a different controller.

Ability to have 2 plugin instances at the same time
This would allow you to have 2 instances of the RGR Plugin open at the same time. Now it would require a fast computer to have 2 instances open at the same time but this would basically allow you and another user to see eachother's games. You'd be playing in your game in your instance and you'd be able to see their game in their instance. This would be great for if you want to play through a single player game with someone else, show someone how to do something or race each other to see who can beat the game the fastest in real time.

MAME/MESS High Score and Speedruns
Currently the MAME and **MESS games do not support High Score or Speedruns; this would change that.

Add DOS Games
This would allow us to add those old PC games known as DOS games. So basically most PC games released between 1981 and 1995 (and some between 1995-2000) would be capable of being added to the site.

Add Dreamcast Games
This would allow us to add Sega Dreamcast games to the site. This would require users to have somewhat powerful computers.

More MAME features
More MAME features including:
-Use mouse for Light Gun MAME games
-Add Pause button for MAME games
-Add DIP switch for MAME games
-Add MAME addon called 'command list'

Cheat Code Support
Support for Action Replay, Game Genie, Game Shark and/or other cheat options.


*Mednafen required systems include: Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket (and color), WonderSwan (and color), Virtual Boy, Turbo Grafx, Turby Grafx CD, SueprGrafx, PC-FX, Game Gear, Master System and Playstation. Optional systems include: GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and Genesis.

**MESS required systems include: C64, Atari 2600, Apple II, MSX, MSX 2, Sega Saturn, CD-i, Intellivision, Colecovision, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Pico, Odyssey 2, PocketStation, Atari Jaguar, SG-1000, Pokemon Mini and SC-3000. MESS is compatible with other systems on the site but currently you cannot play those systems with MESS (I'll add that ability later on).


EDIT: Sorry but Game Boy Netplay, GameCube and DS aren't going to happen for a very long time.

I like the idea of having 2 instances of the plugin, that souds like it could be very useful to some. I'll see if I could throw in a few donations here and there, hopefully one in April.

I think adding dreamcast games would be the best option. A lot of people have been asking for them to be added to the site.

Edit: I think if gba netplay is possible then thats better than adding dreamcast games. I was thinking about this, but forgot while typing my response

The two main features that would be great are having 2 instances of the plugin and, of course, adding Dreamcast. It would also be nice to have MESS or MAME Netplay. I personally don't like playing arcade games by myself, so adding that to Netplay would be awesome. Having 2 instances of the plugin open could be useful for people who wish to do Netplay and solo play at the same time, but I really think you should at least make it so your entire browser doesn't completely crash just because you open 2 windows with the plugin. As for the Dreamcast... That would be incredible. I can already tell that it's going to get the most votes in your poll. It would be a dream come true to play Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on Vizzed among other great games.

But what happened with that thing GuardianZack told you about for GBA Netplay? Weren't you going to add VBA Link so you can Netplay GameBoy Advance games?

I would really like to see MAME/MESS Netplay and More Systems to support Video Recording. That would mean that we could finally have N64 tournaments again. Smash tournaments. Mario Kart tournaments. Super Mario 64 MP hack co-ops.

zanderlex : That'd be great. Yeah I'm excited for that feature too, especially for streaming purposes.

earthwarrior : Adding Dreamcast would be awesome but as I said, it would require a powerful computer so I could see a lot of users being upset if they weren't able to play them. For those it does work for though, it'll be awesome. The Dreamcast is my favorite system so I'd love to share some of my favorite games with users.

GBA Netplay just isn't a possibility at the moment unfortunately.

thing1 : Good working N64 netplay would be a big deal. So many great 4 player N64 games.

Davideo7 : I wouldn't be able to donate as much as cam, so no award for me this year, and I won't be able to match last years total, but I'll try to put in at least 200 dollars this year.

This may not e as big of a change as adding systems, but I just think adding the ability to record on more systems could open up more doors for competitions, monthly or otherwise. Plus, as much as I would LOVE Dreamcast, I have no idea how many people have computers that could handle it, since I think it's even more hardware intensive than PSX games are?
DOS games would be nice though.

Yeah, I'm not about to donate (financial issues and all that, and I have to start looking at my future more, for reasons I will not elaborate), but one feature that'd be enticing is the Dreamcast.

I didn't get to play much of that library. So it'd be nice to play the stuff I wanted to, but missed out on.

Davideo7 : Once I get settled into my new job, and have an apartment, and everything is squared away, I should be able to make a decent donation. hopefully, sometime in the summer. 

Gamin'Gal : The Dreamcast is way more intensive than the Playstation, you are correct.

The features I want the most are more systems to support video recording and ability to have 2 plugin instances simultaneously.

I could probably make 500+ CP just from having the ability to record N64 games, since there are so many Super Mario 64 hacks I play.

Also, I think it would be really convenient to be able to run 2 plugin instances at the same time.

I want dreamcast games to be added.

I've always wanted to play dreamcast but I don't own one...

And I could donate some, how much do you think would work?

Davideo7 : No rush? You know me, I try to do as much as I can in as little time as I can.

I would like to see GBA netplay. There are so many good GBA games that could be netplayed, and that'd be one thing that I'd love to be added with the plugin. Other than that, everything listed below is looking good.

I didn't really vote for this in my last post, but I've actually seen many people come into the chatrooms and talk about Vizzed's lack of a fullscreen mode. It seems extremely easy to do, so why not do it? Tons and tons of people would love that.

PacmanandMariofan : I'm actually surprised as that "more systems to support video recording" is a popular request and I'm especially surprised that "Ability to have 2 plugin instances at the same time" is a popular request, that was an idea I've had for a long time and I figured I was the only person who would love that lol.

Barathemos : Based on the fact that you're only 16, I'd imagine $10 or $25 would be enough from you. I wouldn't expect someone your age to donate much if anything. To put into perspective just how expensive these features will be to have added, I'd say the average feature is probably around $300 (some less, some a lot more than that). I've got $2100 remaining in my budget so based on that, I currently only have enough to get 6 of these things added.

zanderlex : That's true.

megamanmaniac : GBA netplay is just currently not possible, it'd require a budget far out of anyone's reach.

TheFadedWarrior : Full screen mode actually isn't extremely easy to do, not with the current setup anyway. Mednafen games actually do support full screen by the way.

Davideo7 : how much do you think the dreamcast addition would cost? I mean I could donate money like I'm actually buying the system to help pay for that.

Davideo7 : I don't see how it wouldn't be easy. Wouldn't you just make it resize to fill the dimensions of the screen (or however any fullscreen button works)? And Mednafen isn't as good as the other emulators even though it supports fullscreen.

Barathemos : To have Dreamcast added I would guess would cost around $400. For the ability to take screenshots and record videos may cost an extra $50-$100 but I'm not sure. The cool thing is, I could make enough space on one of my servers to add every single Dreamcast game. I actually currently have 521 Dreamcast game files ready to go (I saved them from get-your-rom.com before we removed DC games from that site).

TheFadedWarrior : Mednafen is a great emulator, it's pretty rare to find a game that it can't emulate well in it. Well with MAME and MESS, you can't switch from windowed mode and full screen mode after the emulator has started. This is a problem since the games are suppose to initially load in the play window. This may not be the case for other emulators but I do know it is the case for these emulators. I'm not the expert with the RGR Plugin's programming but Tom indirectly said it'd take about 3 hours per an emulator and Tom charges up to $30 an hour so having that added to many emulators adds up fast. I could see about supporting bigger screen as well (play window being twice the size or something).
