Super Mario 3D Land: Review

You may remember Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for the Gameboy. Well, now comes Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS! This is probably the first 3D game for the Super Mario Land series and a good game for the 3DS as well. Anyway, released in 2011 this game was released on the 3DS and people got to look at it at E3. It was a platformer and you can play the game in 3D. Enough with all of the nonsense and lets jump to the review! (Some parts of the review is my opinion, so don't just start a argument about which is better or my thing is wrong.)
Graphics 5/10
The graphics are pretty good for the 3DS. You got Mario, Peach, Bowser, and the enemies in which they are good 3D Models.  The landscape is pretty good too. You have grass, tiled grounds, and more you can see in the game. At least you probably won't complain about the graphics. However, my only complaint is that 3D effect isn't really effective to me in this game and that the only way you can see the 3D is by seeing the words or letters in the top screen of your 3DS. The animations are pretty smooth and you probably can't complain with that. So I give the graphics a half out of 10 rating. (5/10)
Sound 6/10
The sound is actually good. You can hear running, coins, enemies coming after you, and fire. They feel pretty strong and a really small important thing for the game, but at least they're good. The music are catchy and you like hearing them again. The ghostly music represents the level being full of ghosts. The castle music represents the type of adventure in order to save Peach. Finally, the beach music represents how the level being beach related. I give the sound a 6/10 rating.
Addictiveness 5/10
Okay, a Mario game. Well, the game does have some good Mario levels, like that 8-bit Mario level, and the first level of the game. You also have toad houses in order to get items, presented by the toads, or by Streetpass.  So, to me, I give the addictiveness a 5/10 rating.
Story 3/10
*sigh* All right time to review the story, a Mario story.   A storm comes and the tanooki leaf tree is loosing its leaves. However, the mean Bowser kidnaps Peach! On the next morning, Mario and his toad gang noticed the leaves on the tanooki tree are gone! Also, they recived a photo which shows Bowser kidnap Peach. So, like always, Mario tries to save Peach. I sadly give the story a 3/10.
Depth 6/10
I honestly have to give the depth a good rating and here's why. Quite a lot of levels= Check. Special Coin in each level= Check. Powerups= Check. Special level in each world= Check. Streetpass=Check. Toad House=Check. Cubes that transforms into a level=Check. Cubes that contain special coins=Check. So I give the rating a 6/10 rating.
Difficulty 5/10
The difficulty really depends on how well you play the game. Well, you do have death pits in which you fall in them, you die. There are lava, in which you touch them, you die too. There are enemies, in which how you face them, they can be easy to defeat, or quite hard to defeat them. Also, you may want to watch your timing when to jump, or run, because there are levels when you have to them. So in my opinion, I give it a 5/10.
Overall 8/10
I give the overall a 8/10 rating. The game is good for the 3DS and the game does have some good levels. So, if you have never played the game, go play it! Have fun!

great review but I really disagree with your ratings. Even when you said nothing bad about the graphics you still gave it a pretty mediocre rating.

I agree with awesomeguy here, when I see your overall rating I don't know how you can give it an eight. Based on your review, I would think you would have given it a 5 or something. And some parts are a bit of summing up or only telling positive/negative points.

I know this is an old review but I still thought I'd give you feedback on it. You did a nice job with covering each category and making your review look professional! Also, I like that you didn't make the review too long and you clearly tried to make it interesting, which it was You've probably improved after this review. Keep up the great work!

I'm actually kind of surprised at how low you gave some of your ratings. I mean, how can you rate a Mario game down for sticking with the same theme that works? I could see giving it a 6, but a 3?

Same goes for the Graphics. The graphics in this game are great. Some people have issues seeing the 3D on the old 3DS consoles, but I encourage you to check it out with the new 3DSXL where you can see the 3D and it's not as sensitive to movement (going out of focus) like the 1st generation 3Ds

It's also weird that you say you will give a decent rating in a certain category, then proceed to give it a D or lower.

Anyways overall it's a decent effort. Keep trying and you will get better as you go along! I look forward to reading more reviews from you in the future.

I agree with Jordan about the ratings you gave for this game. They seemed really inconsistent. This is a better game than you give it credit for. The overall score's alright, but the other ratings just don't seem very fair.

Other than your scoring inconsistencies, I say you should have made a few more comparisons with other 3DS games so we could have a better idea of what the graphics are made of. What about the addictiveness? How does it compare to past Mario games? Finally, was it anything like the game it was adapted from, if ever you played it?
