This month's Speed Run competition is for 'Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island' for the Super Nintendo. You can play it here:

VIDEO REQUIRED: You must must use the RGR Plugin's built in video recording to record the gameplay and then upload that video to the Vizzed YouTube account.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run.

You cannot cheat or use glitches of any sort.

Asking people to speedrun Yoshi's Island is quite a lot to put on someone's plate! There's a bunch of big and tiny things you can do to improve your time in this game, some of which are extremely difficult to pull off consistently.  The tricks required to speedrun 2-4 and 5-4 come to mind.



If I have enough free time, I'll give this a try. This is one of the few games I still remember like the back of my hand

EDIT: I'm guessing you can't use the "teleport to 1-1" trick since it counts as a glitch?

Congo! : If it's a glitch then it doesn't count. I think this competition will come down to just beating it rather than speed running it. I don't think many users will beat it but for those who do, they'll get a lot of Viz.

Played the snot out of this game as a kid. Not really into speed running or anything, but if it gives me an excuse to play it, I might try

Wait wait wait, it's not for money? Baaaaaah. Not like people usually speedrun for money, but I thought it was for some reason.

Linkums : Nope, I gotta cut down on spending since things get real tight for me financially. It looks like I'm going to have to come up with money for taxes again this year due to being behind so from now on I'll probably only have 1 (sometimes 2) competitions per a month that have a payout. Once summer starts up again then every competition will have a payout.

Take notice of the other 2 competitions going on right now, one of them has a really high payout.

Okay, so I did my "speedrun" (took me 5.5 hours, not sure why I went through with it), but when I click the "Submit Speedrun" button, it doesn't let me do so. I made sure to press F6(multiple times) at the end of my run, so did I mess something up or is the prompt just glitched or something? The target screenshot doesn't even show up on the pop-up window.

I don't remember if I ever beat this game, don't remember much besides some tunneling, shooting eggs, and I think running around on a very small moon, but I'll give it a speed run.

awesome99999 : I went in to the speedrun mode and took a dummy screenshot, and it didn't show up either. Something is definitely up.

Davideo7 : Screenshot submission for the speedrun mode on Yoshi's Island doesn't seem to be working. You should probably look into it when you get the chance.

Wait, so is it possible to do it in multiple segments? Or all in one go? Because Yoshi's Island is (if I remember correctly) a pretty long (and hard!) game.

Serperiorfan : The speed run must be done in one segment, but the video can be split up so you don't have long video file.

Serperiorfan : Exactly what rcarter2 said. I'm sure someone could beat it between 3 to 4 hours and it's not uncommon for gamers to play a game for that long straight.

I have never played this game before until this week. I am pretty sure I can get it in less than 3 hours. I got through the first 2 worlds in 50 minutes, but I can shave that down now that I know the direction of 2 of the maze-like levels in world 2. Just need to play through the whole game so I know exactly where to go. Goal is to get through each world in between 20-30 minutes, so my goal is beween 2-3 hours. But the only time I can have time to sit down and play through it in one run is on the weekends, so my schedule might work against me here. We will see.
