Well not many people know me because I am a runner up on posting. I started before then stopped, but I think it is about time I create my first review. I normally would review Pokémon, Zelda, Dragon Ball Z etc, or just plain old Game Boy games, but this game actually caught my attention. I first saw it on a review today actually, and he explained how horrible the game was. Well I went out and gave it a try and I don't see where he went wrong. It's actually where he went right. All the Criticism was the whole point of it but all in all he told the game right down to its exact core.
Graphics:
Now first off I would like to begin this way. I know the game was for the Atari and all but it wasn't looking so neat. Not then again on other Atari games I could deal with it looking this way for one reason and one reason only. The games were actually pretty catchy and interesting. You see me I like pixelated games mainly because it gives me a feeling of Nostalgia completely. Not because it is old, but mainly because I can see myself as a 6 year old kid again playing this, but when you break it down this way. This...game...is...so...horrible.
Sound:
Now Sound is a big problem with me. Mainly because when I play a game I love hearing the theme music on it too. Not just to be listening to music but to make the scenes or areas in the game more interesting. I know most people hate playing a game without volume and turn around your at this part in the game that has you indulged in it and the music goes perfect with the part. I really don't know about you but that really urks my nerves. Especially with this game. You can only hear the Jump and ball up music, then it all comes down to game over. That's all you hear. No theme music+bad graphics=Horrible game(not bad game).
Addictiveness:
I didn't find this game too addictive, only the fact that I am at least able to play a video game. So I gave it some credit on that. I mean really though there are much better Retro games than this one, but if I were born back in the time of this game, I could sit back and play this game for hours regardless of the looks or if I'm stuck on 1 part of the game. So basically what I am trying to prove is that this game isn't very much on the addictive side.
Story:
The game had no typical storyline to it at all. It was mainly just start up the game and go straight to your level. I didn't really like that in the game and when that happened I knew it was going to be a bad game. It really just reminded me of a Super Mario game that you fly in the sky and just warp to a new level, but back to the story which is something this game really does not have. It is mainly combined of many levels. However though, most of Sonic the Hedgehog games are like that but thus could pass to be the worst Sonic the Hedgehog game I have ever laid eyes on.
Depth:
I can't really just say it is a big game because I haven't played it long enough to determine that. I only played it long enough to determine that the game is really bad. That is about all I have to say for this category.
Difficulty:
I guess I could say that this game is really the normal type. It had some tough moments because of the format of the game. You moved a little too fast at times and you moved a little too slow at times too. Also the jump was really jacked up because it didn't really let me jump as high as I wanted to go. It would jump partial way, and half of the time I had to use my ball dash to jump high enough. I don't really know if this is a bug in the game. I also had to deal with it frame skipping a little to where I would move a little too fast and I fall off those 1 block obstacles. Not that it is anything wrong with vizzed or the emulator, it's just the game problem.
Overall:
The score that I gave this game as an overall was what it deserved and this game would have to come up with something to impress me to make me change it. I really wasn't expecting much when I started to play this game in the first place but I mean seriously though. The developer could have come up with much better than this. I also know that the developer was trying to hard to make this an enjoyable game for the players, but trying to hard can always lead you to a downfall depending on how you are making something or trying to make something. I also recommend the developer for actually making this game better than it could have turned out but Sonic the Hedgehog on the Atari just wouldn't work out.
