As you probably may know already, I am a huge fan of good old arcade games, as well as their adventure remakes. So it should come as not surprise to you that I am excited to review Namco Museum Megamix. This game contains the classics such as CutieQ (a breakout kind of game) Motos, Gaplus, Pac and Pal, Dig Dug 2, Pac Man, Super Pac Man, Bosconian, Galaga and others. If I am not mistaken, there was nearly a total of thirty games on here. Megamix was basically an upgrade of remix. Megamix has all the games that remix had and then some. The newest game here was Grobda Remix (at least I think that is how it was spelled) Where you play as PacMan driving a tank and you have a ton of gnarly enemies waiting to blow you up! This is a favorite of my modern day collections. So I shall explain why...
Graphics: 9 Well, this is a bit hard to judge, since a lot of the games on here are old arcade games. But where they brought in the modern day stuff, the graphics are really good. Probably the best graphics have to be in the Galaga remix game, and second best will go to grobda remix. None of the arcade games have bad graphics. That is one thing that I always liked about Namco. Even back then, their graphics were decent. There is not one game that I can think of where the graphics were just lousy. Even the simple graphics of games like Pac and Pal or CutieQ somehow seem to grab you.
Sound: 8 For all the modern day portions, I would have to say that they did a good job, especially on Grobda. The explosions sounded really good here. I am somewhat annoyed by the sounds in gaplus...namco could really have done better on that one. The sound on this really stunk to me. The missiles that you fire are way too high pitched for my tastes, and you only get a simple beep sort of sound for each enemy that you destroy. I know that this is an upgrade from the slow-moving low graphic and sound quality game galaxian, but still, it is not even close to the sounds of Galaga that I like. But to be honest, Galaxian and gaplus are really the only two games that take anything away from this category.
Addictiveness: 10 With 24 classic favorites on one, with modern updates, who would not want to play this game over and over! (Sorry sonicmuffin) But I think that this is about as addicting as it gets! It contains all my old time favorites: Pac Man, Galaga, Bosconian, New Rally X, Dig Dug, and a game I never thought that I would get to try but always wanted to...Pac and Pal! With the wii remote in your hand and nearly 30 classics to play, how can anyone not agree that it does not get much better than this!
Story: Well, there really is not much of a story here...unless you want to go over the tiny bit in pac'n'roll remix with Golvis, but I do not really even see this as much of a story. But with classics like these, who needs a story?
Depth: 9. I will have to say that this is the biggest Namco Museum that I have ever seen! There are a couple of games out there that have even more arcade classics...but they were all from the intellivision, so I cannot really say that this has been beat in the arcade collections. (Intellivision is nothing compared to the work of Namco!) I have never seen a namco that had 18 retro games and 6 modernized versions! You get to roll around a beautiful museum, although there really is not the display and explanation that previous namco Museums had. But it is still the best that they have made yet!
Difficulty: 7. I will say that I remember putting some good time into the Pac and Roll remix, as well as PacMotos but other than that, the game really is not notoriously difficult. The thing that I always loved about arcade is that it offers endless gameplay. No matter how hard or easy it is for you, you can always do more! For someone that has finished a ton of games relatively easily, the arcade is always a breath of fresh air.
Overall: 9. While my calculations will bring the rating to 8.6, I love this game too much to say that. I give it a nine, just because it is so much fun. It is a good, clean game, and is awesome for family play! Try it out sometime, you will not be disappointed. (That is if you care anything for the good old fashioned arcade.
