I have been playing Dig Dug for a long time and think that an arcade three dimensional remake of it would be awesome. While I have never been a major scoring person on this game, I do believe that I have made some halfway decent scores and have actually played until the level counter reset to 00. That was a lot of continues! With this in mind, I do feel equipped to give some helpful hints to a game like this.
Taking down enemies: The best way to survive is, of course to blow up all of your enemies before they get you. It is needless to say that there can be some pretty scary chases that come up throughout the course of a level where you get three or four of them on your tail. Your best bet is to turn around pump one a time or two, move on, pump another one, and repeat the cycle until you can either use a rock to crush them or get far enough ahead of them to blast them all!
There is one nice feature that is good to use on the Pookas (The red spherical enemies) : you can pump through thin walls! This makes it easier to take out the less dangerous ones more quickly and safely. It also works on Fyguar ( the green dragon) Just keep in mind that his fire goes through thin walls as well. As long as you come down on him in a direction that he cannot fry you, you should be fine.
Points: While I really cannot understand their points value system yet, there are a few things that I know you can do to earn them.
Dropping rocks on enemies is a great way to earn those bonus points! You will get 1000 for one enemy crushed, 2500 for two and 4000 for three! Also, if you drop two rocks in the course of a level, a special fruit will appear. Munch these for extra points! I also know that digging earns you points. So dig, dig, dig! I think that there is a higher value for enemies in the last bit of the round, when they start moving really fast, but I am not too sure.
Chase Tips: Enemies can move through the dirt rather quickly, so make sure to watch out for them. You can dig through the dirt, but it takes longer than if you would move through the tunnels that you have already dug. Always try to use the rocks to your advantage, just make sure that it does not fall on you!
There really is not much else that I can think of. I know this might seem kind of lame, but I have not seen anyone make something better! I hope that this guide will at least help you a little bit.
