In my opinion, Edge of Tomorrow was one spectacular movie. It is so far the best movie I have seen this year and is one of the all time greatest movies that I have ever seen. I have gone to the movies roughly 2 dozen times this year, yet this is one of just 2 movies that I have actually planned on going to see and that I have actually wanted to see on my own, without outside influence.
First let's talk about the effects, which are amazing. It's just a war movie with explosions and gunfire all around. I like the movie's effects because it all looks so realistic, especially in IMAX. I didn't know this at the time, but eventually I learned that they actually filmed the movie with actual explosions instead of just graphics. Some of the scenes are actually made by building real sand dunes, having the actors run in a straight line along a set path, and setting off live explosives that are hidden under the sand. Simply put, the graphics are beautiful.
Next is the story, which revolves around a commander of some sort being put in the war as a soilder because there arent enough men. He gets spalttered with the blood of one of the aliens and because of this, whenever he dies, the day resets. It's a pretty simple concept, but the further you go into the movie, the more dramatic and awesome it gets, especially the interactions between himself and the other characters.
The acting is superb, in my opinion, this is one of Tom Cruise's best performance because he always seems to be in a great character. The dialouge by him, and the acting in general are one of the reasons the movie was so great, and the acting by Emily Blunt was amazing as well.
Fun fact, both Cruise and Blunt have done their own stunts in the movie and actually wore the large metal suits while filming, as opposed to just wearing a costume and adding the effects of a suit. The suits each weighed 80 to 130 pounds and were all equipped with mock rocket launches, rifles, and were fully functional.
The movie in general was spectacular, and was even better when watching it in IMAX 3D, and if you have not seen it, I really suggest that you go and see it, and if you have seen it already, I want you to go and watch it again.
