I have been thinking about buying a Gaming Console but I am not sure which one I would want to buy. I have been thinking more along the lines of Xbox One, I know they started off on the wrong foot with that one. I was thinking about Playstation 4, but I haven't had much experience with the Playstation at all. Now to my question, which one did you/ would you buy and why? I don't want to hear people say that they hate the Xbox One, because of mistakes Microsoft made previous to release, I want to know if you had problems with the console, while playing it. Any opinions welcome, but be nice and considerate, if someone doesn't agree with you on a console.

If your looking for more of a all in one console I'd go with the Xbox One. But, if your more into games and want a more powerful console that can handle more things, get a PlayStation 4. (I own a Xbox One by the way) From what I can tell, Microsoft has been doing an ok job fixing some mistakes they made with the console so you shouldn't have to worry about it failing or anything. If your a big Nintendo fan but still like some of the games the PS4 and XB-one offer you could get a Wii U. It's not the most powerful but it's got some great first party titles from the big N already on it. So far my Wii U has worked well and menu loading times are a lot faster then they used to be after the quick start menu update. My Wii U only gave me trouble when I tried to play my Wii games when the system came out but that's all been fixed. My Xbox has crashed on me quite a lot unfortunately, It's usually if I get a system intensive game in the background and I'm trying to open Skype or something. The Kinect is a disappointment and isn't really that reliable at all. If you get a Xbox One and don't get the Kinect you'll be saving money and won't be missing out to much. I hope I helped !

The attraction of xbox is its media and game focussed.
The ps4 is designed for gaming at its core.
That doesn't mean all games will be better, often developers are lazy, and make all platform releases to the lowest platforms specs.
But some titles such as battlefield will utilise the extra power.

Frankly they are both subpar to a half decent pc though

Most games on the consoles will be almost identical.
A minority will be better on ps4.
The ps4 is a better platform but I dont think the games are massively better on the ps4.

Since the two consoles are about the same price, you have to decide whats more useful to you. The better graphics or the media features.
You should look into the various console exclusives too.
If I were to buy one it would be ps4.
Most of the xboxone features seem like noveltys to me.

I would be more focused on games, because I wouldn't care that much about graphics etc. Which one has better games, in your opinion,

Honestly, it isn't a good idea to buy a console in it's early time. For one, you want to wait until the glitches are worked out. Every console has problems early on. Wait at least a year so you aren't victims to one of those glitches. Next, a vast majority of the games being released for the new gen is also being made for the previous gen. The main difference between the gen versions is just graphics. Not worth spending so much until they stop making games for the previous generation. Next, there just aren't enough exclusives, but that is a part of the previous point. Wait till there is a higher selection of games for both systems so you can make a more informed decision. Next, the early games don't really utilize the full capability of the consoles. Again, the new games are typically being released for the new and previous generation. So the only difference is some graphic improvements. It usually takes until their second to third year until they really start making games that use the real potential of the console's capabilities. Just compare the newer Xbox 360 games and PS3 games to the ones made during their early release. HUGE difference in quality. Lastly, the prices are always highest in the first year. By the second year, the price usually has a nice drop.
So my advice is to wait. Wait until the games available for the new consoles aren't being made for the previous gens too. Wait until each one has more exclusives so you can decide which one has exclusives that appeal to you more. Wait until both start taking their games to the point where they are truly using the full capabilities of the consoles, which takes time. Watching all that will mean you can make a decision that is a lot more informed, and you are far less likely to regret your choice because you kept yourself informed. And the fact you waited to make a more informed idea, you will also save a lot of money because prices will have dropped a good amount by then.

darthyoda : I wholeheartedly agree with rcarter. Wait until a price drop to get the console, unless you'll be unable to play with your friends otherwise. Wii U has had many great deals recently, but you'll probably have to wait a while for big PS4 or Xbox One sales. PC is the ultimate gaming console. If you don't have a PC that can play stuff well, looking into building a PC for maybe a budget of $500. You will likely be surprised how good a PC you can get for that price, if you build it. Plus, the games are cheaper, MUCH cheaper.

- Steam is full of phishing bots 
- May be linux based and not all steam games will work
- Half-Life 3 is not confirmered

When it cheapens down, get a PS4.

I've tried all three present gen systems, and tested out various things.

The One is garbage. The WiiU is alright. The PS4 has the most potential (but at present doesn't have enough games).

If you don't get a PS4, a WiiU would probably be your best bet, as they have the best exclusives.

The games are likely to be be better on ps4. Not massively. But slightly.
As far as exclusives go, its hard for me to say one over the other.
They both have yet to deliver anything great honestly.
Xbox has dead rising 3 which is fun, playstation has the last of us.

So I can be crystal clear, I am not looking for a Wii U. For me it is a competition between PS4 and Xbox One.

May I ask why you think the Xbox One is junk, leggyme? I just want to know why... I haven't had either consoles, I haven't had the Xbox 360, or the Playstation 1, 2, of 3...

If your options are PS4 and One, then it's PS4 all the way.

The One has basically nothing for exclusives. I think they have Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, and the Halo Remasters, but I'm literally drawing a blank to think of any actually appealing exclusives.

PS4 has Driveclub, Bloodborne, the Infamous games, Tearaway: Unfolded, Uncharted 4, MLB The Show (If you are as big on baseball as I am, no other real baseball game out there), Little Big Planet 3, Persona 5, Disgaea 5, Killzone, Resogun, and The Last of Us (if you didn't play it on the PS3).

Many of those games aren't out yet, but will be in the next year or so of the console's life.

On top of the exclusives, the PS4, from what I've seen has better performance, and will run the games that the two systems share in better quality and at a better speed. On top of which, the PS4's devkit is reportedly super easy to work with, so more indie developers will be able to work with Sony, leading to many more Indies.

Essentially it boils down to this.

Get a One if - You want to play Halo, Titanfall, or use the Kinect. (or watch TV without switching off the console because you are lazy)

Get a PS4 if - You want a console that plays the best games at the best quality, and while lacking the "all in one" credentials of the One, does what it is intended to do extremely well.

I'm sure there will be more exclusives down the line for the XBox One, sure.

But if you have a decent PC, those games will also likely be on PC. Sony's exclusives are less likely to be shared with the PC.

My personal recommendation would be a PC+WiiU to get the widest variety of good games, but if the WiiU isn't an option, then a decent PC+PS4 will give you the widest variety of good games.

Honestly, a One+PC just seems completely redundant.

Typically, yes.

Get a Wii U, like I am. The most creative and fun games tend to come out on Nintendo consoles.

Of course, then you would miss out on some Playstation exclusives like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear, so... buy one and try for the other later?

I don't really like Xbox because I'm much more interested in Japanese-developed games, and Japan devs don't really like Microsoft all that much.
