MLB 06: The Show was the first game in the epic series that had pretty much completely changed the baseball game world. When this game first came out, I was amazed at how awesome and unique it was, though I honestly did not expect it to last. I thought the series would be over after a few years because of the 2K games, but it didn't, and I am glad of that.
GRAPHICS 9/10
When it comes to graphics, the game of course wasn't as good as it is today, but still were quite realistic and just a bit above other similar games. Special effects aren't needed, all that's required are simple players, a field, and some motion for a great game, and this game shows that. My overall grade for graphics is a 9 out of 10.
SOUND 8/10
The game does not have as much as the newer games do in the sound department, but what they do have is enough. Unlike newer games where commentary is the front of the sound, for this game the main focus of this aspect comes from the music. The game features about a dozen or so songs and I feel that the music deserves an 8 out of 10.
STORY 8/10
The story is pretty simple with The Show mode, but that’s all that a sports game needs, and the developers have done a great job with the “story” for this game. The story simply revolves around you creating a player and living out a full career. For the story, I give this game an 8 out of 10.
ADDICTIVENESS 10/10
The game was quite addicting and the game had started off right out of the gate with some of their amazing features. Like all The Show games, you can create your own player and spend months upon months playing out that players career. This mode is the most notable of the game and series, but the game also features many others. Another mode that I liked for this game was the franchise mode. Like The Show, you can pretty much spend an unlimited amount of time playing. For this game, the mode offered a bigger look into a franchise by allowing users to dive deeper into the operations of a team such as tickets, concessions, and more. The game has many things to offer, but these individual games are so much fun that you wouldn't mind playing it over again once you beat it. My overall grade for addictiveness is a perfect 10.
DEPTH 9/10
As for depth, it’s like any other game that follows this one in the series, it has a ton to offer. Just the Show and Franchise mode offer more than most sports games offer overall, and then there are still some more modes to choose from such as Home Run Derby and King of the Diamond. For Depth, I give this game a 9 out of 10.
DIFFICULTY 4
The game is not difficult at all, it’s a sports game, which are generally pretty easy. If you have a good player and you know what to press at what time, then you should have no problems with this game. My overall grade for difficulty is going to be a 4.
OVERALL 8.5/10
Overall, this game is amazing. It’s not as good as the other 8 games to come after this one, but if this game hadn’t been so awesome when it first came out, the series might never have had enough support to keep cranking out games year after year. This is a very fun game to kick off the series and my overall grade will be an 8.5 out of 10.
