Yesterday at Sony's Gamescom 2014 conference, Sony announced that they'll be releasing a brand new IP in the horror genre. They immediately released a demo to show off just how great the game looks.

The demo though, was not just any ordinary demo. It was hell. Quite possibly one of the scariest things I've ever played through as a gamer.

A radio was playing, giving a very graphic description of a brutal murder spree a man unleashed on his family, ending with his wife shot in the head, and in the stomach, killing the baby, him leading his little daughter out of the bathroom, under the guise of it just being a game, and shooting her in the head. He then hung himself with a garden hose he found in the basement.

Brutal enough? You show up in the hallway where it all took place. You try to walk into the basement, but you just end up in the entrance where you started in. With no way out, you are tasked with finding the pieces of a photo of the wife that was murdered, and figuring out an incredibly specific set of actions that get you out of there. There's a bloody refrigerator hanging from the ceiling, a fetus in the sink, and the mortifying ghost of the wife appearing randomly throughout the house when you stare at her image. She can grab you, she can possess you and that's just the beginning of what you have to do to beat it.

The thing is though, only a select few people have beaten it, and even more got stuck in the hallway.

At the end, it revealed that this wasn't just a demo, it was a teaser for the next game in the Silent Hill series. The real game isn't going to be anything like this, but it gave us the perfect taste of what is in store.

Why did they ruse us? Why did they make us think this was gonna be an entirely different game?

Hideo Kojima is in charge, that's why.

The Metal Gear, massive story hound developer will be developing this new game in collaboration with famous filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, with full intent in making it the scariest thing to happen to gaming.

Kojima had rused his players many times before, leading everybody to think that his leading protagonist Solid Snake would be the main character of Metal Gear Solid 2, when the playable character in the game ended up being a completely different person, making the good guy of the third game the villain of the rest of the series, and bringing back Solid Snake for the fourth game, but making him have the physique of an 80 year old man. Still devilishly handsome, but we have been tricked. For the fifth game, an indie game known as The Phantom Pain was announced, made by a company known as Moby Dick Studio. The game ultimately ended up being revealed as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and it seems as though Kojima had done the same with P.T. by 7780's Studio.

P.T. stood for Playable Teaser, and was a look into what was in store.

Turns out, Kojima had intentionally made the game look worse than it could, and he and his team went out of their way to make P.T. look like it was an independent game, downgrading the overall quality and graphics to make it look like it was made by a small group of people. (I thought it still looked incredibly photorealistic, and damn good honestly, if this is a low quality version of what's to come, we're in for a treat)

The real game, however, will be something real special, showing off the true power of the FOX engine, presenting the game in its full glory with Kojima's direction, Del Toro's writing, and the acting of Walking Dead / Boondock Saints star Norman Reedus.

What can all of this mean for a horror title, made by people at the top of their careers, in the pinnacle of their qualities, and on their A-games?

Since the first person revealed this game, Kojima has boldly said the following on his Twitch stream:

"The one thing that I can say about Silent Hills, and this is something I've been discussing with Guillermo del Toro as well, is that originally we were thinking of making a game that would make you pee your pants, but at this point we've changed our minds, and now we're aiming for a game that will make you s*** your pants,"

"One thing that you have to keep in mind is that, if a game is too scary, people just won't play it. In movies or attractions ... if it gets too scary you just keep your eyes shut and soon it will be over. But if it's a game, people will just stop. So that's why there's a limit on how scary you can make a game.

"But in this case we're totally ignoring that and, you know what? If you don't want to keep on playing through the game, so be it. We don't care. That's the game we are aiming for, we're aiming for a game that will make you s*** your pants. So, players, make sure you have a change [of clothes],"

This means that they will not be holding back with the scares, and that the uber terrifying P.T. wasn't even close to what they had in store. From what they're saying, this game will be beautiful, it'll have tremendous writing, and it'll very likely make you crap yourself out of fear.

What do you think about this reveal?

It was the most imaginative and creative way I've ever seen a developer reveal a game. I've gotten a good 4 hours out of peeing myself playing his demo, and I've still no luck with getting to the ending.

That FOX engine is being used for their soccer game as well (Pro Evolution soccer 2015) which should be interesting as it is for weather effects. though that game looks interesting. I might go look it up and show my dad it as he hates horror games and he will probably kill me lol. I like the fact that a select few have only beaten it which makes it the more scary.

alexanyways : I haven't gotten the chills since I've seen The evil within
but I'm happy that they're not toning down the graphic of silent Hill.
Nothing screams gruesome and terrifying than silent Hill and I just love the dark story and the creature design of SH.I cannot wait to get my hands on this

So glad to hear that, I absolutely love Silent Hill such a classic and iconic series, A true masterpiece of a series in my opinion, but I must say, really good post, very unique, very thought provoking, and very inteligent, intellectually sound, and thought provoking. You can play so many games on the device, like a classic series I hold deep in my heart, the name of the series is Resident Evil. Ah Resident Evil now there's a series that brings back many memories for me. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, and annoyed. The time it came out, I was quite young still in grade school, but though young the series made a lasting impact on me that I will never forget. The graphics may be horrendous now, but back then they were state of the art, I remember being scared out of my mind as a kid when I played that close to Halloween, I didnt sleep that night at all, not a good combination mixing turning the sound all the way up, with the lights off, and it being night out, I had nightmares for a week. My friends all were scared of that game as well, we all used to run home and were glued to our television sets, seeing what would happen between Wesker, Chris, and Jill, those three are like the trio of legendary proportions always anyone whoever it is talking about Resident Evil it's always Wesker, Chris, and Jill. And the infamous Jill sandwich, such a legendary meme, I was thinking of that meme for ages, it was so classic, and funny. I am glad this site offers so much Resident Evil, I could play the series for hours on end. Sadly Capcom never showed love or stop caring for Resident Evil after Resident Evil 4. After Resident Evil 4, it was not the same Resident Evil, I grew up on and fell in love with, it dramatically changed in the bad way, I never really understood why though they did such a harsh change to the genre. Don't get me wrong though, the later games are fun and amazing, but as amazingly awesome they are, it's just not the same as Resident 1 through Resident Evil Code Veronica. The newer ones are pure action, with barely any or none at all horror content or substance, a shell of its former self if you will. Hopefully Capcom will regain it's former glory and stop churning out games like theres no tomorrow, and Call of Duty clones. But in all it is a very wonder ful game, and has alot to give.
