Super Monkey Ball 2 was one of those games that I played all the time as a kid. I still play it often to this day. Since this game is a game that I know a lot about, I figured I might as well write a review for it.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is a fun Game Cube game. You control a monkey in a ball, and you have to roll him around and try to reach the finish. It is a really fun game to play, especially if you play with other people.

Graphics (8):

The graphics in Super Monkey Ball 2 are good, but they are not anything special. They look like your average Game Cube graphics. Everything is very colorful. The monkeys, bananas, and courses are well detailed, but the backgrounds are kind of plain. The game looks good, but there are better graphics out there. I really do not have any specific complaints about the graphics. There are no graphical glitches. The graphics are somewhat simple, but they are very effective. They fit in with the feel and theme of the game nicely. Overall, the graphics are well done. I give them an 8.

Sound (9):

This is probably just me, but I love the sound effects in Super Monkey Ball 2. I think that they sound that the ball makes when it moves is awesome, I think that the screams that the monkeys make when they fall off of the edge is funny, I think that the noise that the monkeys make when there are about to fall of the edge is fitting, etc. I also love the way that the "announcer", if you want to call him that, says "Goal!" when you complete a level. The music is a little lacking though. I absolutely love the song that the monkeys sing when they are mad at the villain and are teaming up, however. Overall, I think that the sound is great. It is cartoony, but it just fits the game so well. That is why I rated the sound a 9.

Addictiveness (8):

This game is addictive, but not "play it every second of every day" addictive. It is more of a casual game that you can play when you are bored, as opposed to a deeper game that you play all the time. It is always a game that you will want to come back to, though. It is a fun game to play no matter how old you are. I used to play this game often as a kid, but I was not addicted to it like I was addicted to Pokemon Ruby. It is definitely a game that makes you want to come back to it, though. How likely am I to play this game again? Pretty likely. I will probably bring it with me when I go to Maryland with my family so that we can all play it there. Even though it isn't "glued to the TV" addictive, this game does still have some addictive qualities, and that is why I decided to rate it an 8.

Story (6):

You could argue that Super Monkey Ball 2 does not have a real story, but it does. In story mode, at least. The evil Dr. Bad-Boon (creative name, right?) has stolen all of the bananas and it is you job to use Aiai, Meemee, Gongon, and Baby to chase him down and get the bananas back. You have to complete all of these obstacle course type things to make it to him and try to save all of the bananas. I know, lame story. That is why I rated it a 6. It really is a lame story, and I believe that they could have done a lot better. Fortunately though, the story is not an important aspect in this game at all. It really only plays a small role. The story only applies to story mode by the way, the other game modes do not have any kind of story whatsoever.

Depth (8):

There are four different game modes that you can play in Super Monkey Ball 2 - Story Mode, Challenge Mode, Practice Mode, and Party Games. Story Mode is the main game mode. The goal in story mode is to complete all of the levels by rolling the ball into the goal without falling off the course or letting time run out. There are 10 worlds in story mode, each of which contain 10 levels, equaling a total of 100 levels in story mode alone. Challenge mode is a little different than story mode. It contains the same levels, only they are split into 3 sections - Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. You have 3 lives and 6 continues to try to beat all of the levels in the section that you chose. In Practice Mode, you can chose any level that you want and play it as many times as you want, without having to worry about lives. Party Games is a game mode that consists of twelve party games - Monkey Race, Monkey Fight, Monkey Target, Monkey Billiards, Monkey Bowling, Monkey Golf, Monkey Boat, Monkey Shot, Monkey Dogfight, Monkey Soccer, Monkey Baseball, and Monkey Tennis. You start with the first six that I listed, while the other six need to be unlocked with play points (which can be earned by playing story mode). There is a lot of different things that you can do in Super Monkey Ball 2, which is why I rated the depth an 8.

Difficulty (9):

The difficulty really depends on which game modes and levels you are talking about, but in generally, Super Monkey Ball 2 is a very difficult game. It gets especially hard when you play the later levels in story mode or challenge mode. It is a very difficult game that requires very steady hands, lots of concentration, and a little bit of luck. If you get frustrated easily when playing video games, I do not recommend that you play this game. If you like a challenge though, this game is good for you.

In short, Super Monkey Ball 2 is a very fun game to play. The graphics are average, but the sound stands out to me. It is a somewhat addictive game, but it won't have you glued to the TV. The story is lame, but there is a lot of things that you can do in the game. It is a very difficult and challenging game, not recommended for ragers. If you see it at Game Stop, I suggest that you buy it. It is a great game and I think that most of you will enjoy it.

That's my review! Thanks for reading! Please let me know what you think! If you liked it, please visit the Super Monkey Ball 2 game page and give it a rating! Thanks again for reading!

tgags123 :

I love this game for the gamecube, it's such a simple yet excellent concept, and yeah, the story does suck, but it's better than Mario (on accountthat there is actually variety in what happens, ie, bomb is planted in volcano, shrinking laser beam, monkey robots. ect.)

This is just a fun, well rounded game that is ideal at a family party.

Good review tgags! I almost want to write my own review. XD

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

I'm not too familiar with the Monkey Ball series, but I have seen how fun it can be, and I played a little with my friends. It's pretty cool.

Also, good job on the review, man. You did a pretty good job breaking it down. But what else is new? You've been great at this.
