Minecraft Pocket Edition 0.9.0 released on July 10th, and the fixes soon followed. The bug patch 0.9.2 released less than a week later. 0.9.3 has been released as well, with 0.9.4 available for android users. Having been able to obtain the app myself, I played it and relished the "unlimited" world.

And for many of us, the unlimited world was all we really wanted out of the update.

Meanwhile others will notice that there are still important components missing, like redstone circuits. That we don’t already have non-crafting redstone use is undoubtedly disappointing, and something that we’ll have to look forward to in a future update.

You can look at Mojang’s list of additions that 0.9.0 brought, here:
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Pocket_Edition_version_history#0.9.0

They’ve added a bunch of new block types, mobs, biomes, and cave features.

Notable ones include:
- Villagers
- Improved performance of TNT
- Added Mobs - Slimes, Endermen, Wolves, Mooshrooms, Silverfish
- More Wood Types - Dark and Savanna
- Emerald Ore
- Huge Mushrooms
- Vines

Plagued with bugs, Mojang is releasing bug patch after bug patch. Here’s the link to the fixes of 0.9.1-3 (scroll to check).
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Pocket_Edition_version_history#0.9.2

Overall, we can be pleased with Mojang’s quick response to these bugs.

---

Unlimited World Size?!? Won’t that take too much space?!

You get to see how large your save is from the menu, and even exploring a large area before building only used up 10 MB for one of my worlds. You’d need a preposterously large world or creation to create an unbearibly large file-size, so I wouldn’t worry.

Multiplayer?

PE 0.9.x tries to incorporate realms, and Mojang admits that multiplayer on PE is "a bit fragile".

I don’t like realms, but this is a pocket edition, and I wasn’t expecting much in the way of multiplayer play for only $7. But I would be willing to give much more for it if there was a solid multiplayer.

Did you experience glitches?

Only a few minor graphical glitches, like a random flashing from a close block that didn’t render properly. Otherwise my experience was glitch-free.

Commands?
Neither my own tests, nor online research, yielded any working commands. You’ll have to look into Mods, like single-player commands, and even that might only work for Android devices currently.

Is the updated PE worth spending money over?

In my opinion, yes. They’ve added enough features, that even without a nice multiplayer, nor redstone, you still have a game that’s definitely worth the $7. For me, the tipping point towards it being buyable was indeed the unlimited world size.

But it's your decision, and all the information and links I've provided are at your disposal. If you like it, great! If not, that's alright.

Here’s some screenshots!

0.9.2, here we go!

Let’s keep it challenging.

Uh, oh.

Inventory full of things that you couldn't have before! (Stained Clay, Podzol, Emerald Ore, Dark Wood)

i still think Minecraft PE was better before 0.9.0...................but im just kidding. Now Pocket Edition is worth buying (cought* downloading it for free from another site). Maybe its better than Xbox360 Edition.

Wait, the Pocket Edition now has an unlimited world?

Sweet.

I bought it ages ago, and hated how tiny the world was. Now I might actually play.

legacyme3 : I just couldn't take Pocket Edition seriously before this update.

And the unlimited world is a crucial part of the minecraft experience. We all need to lose our houses at least once. =P

EideticMemory :

What I want to know is how "unlimited" the unlimited world is.

Is it as theoretically large as the PC version?

Like, if you had a 600 TB chip in your mobile device somehow, would the world really extend as far as the PC version? Obviously, I never will, but it's technical knowledge like that that I find truly important when considering the "unlimited" world.

Ir it can't handle the world properly like that, then you are more prone to bugs and glitches that can hurt the experience.

legacyme3 : It would be interesting to test. Unfortunately iOS mods aren't currently working with 0.9.0+, or we could actually test it.

It's easier to find the end of the "unlimited" world on the PC, where you can teleport to a particular coordinate.

The PC Minecraft world goes from x=-30,000,000 and z=-30,000,000 to x=30,000,000 and z=30,000,000.

That's about 5 times the surface area of the Earth, if a block is a meter long. I'd speculate that it would take no more than a few gigabytes to hold that entire world. And the game does get glitchy and unpredictable when you go out that far.

It's just not a problem as you'd have to spend THOUSANDS of hours of walking to get anywhere close.

EideticMemory :

Right, at most, you probably see 2-3% of a heavily explored world in Minecraft. And that's just the SURFACE, not counting underground caves, etc.

It's just technically, if the Pocket Edition can't handle a truly unlimited world, then once the filesize starts to creep up, you'll get inconsistencies you normally wouldn't have.
